Asurii moves to the opposite side of the door. If anyone comes through they would be flanked.

<>

She swings back her robe and awaits the target. Trollocs and Fades were nothing new to them, they had frought them before. Teamwowrk was the key to killing both.

Topic: The Wheel of Time: Dawn Of The Infant King
Subject: Asurii

Asurii, irritated by the enveloping robe she had to wear for disguise reasons, shifted to where she was better able to get to her spears. To say that the garment hampered movement was a understatement, like saying the Aiel are barbarians, which is what most Wetlanders thought but was totally untrue.

They had been sent off into that Wetlander territory with no experience in it and they all tha had to rely on was the instructions they were given by the Wise Ones. On of those instructions was to scream and cower. She knew how Raiel felt about that instruction, and she was just as ready to dance spears with an attacker as yell and cower. Asurii knew the disguise was important, but so was pride, and to scream and cower was not the action Maiden, or Aiel would do.

But the Wise Ones had been adamant that they should hide behind disguises and work with the team that was gathering to find the Oracle. So important a quest that the Wise Ones had said that they were to have dispensation from Toh. Asurii could not conceive that this thing they were to find was more important than “Toh” but she would not argue the fact with them Aiel learned quickly to obey the Wise Ones and never argue with them for you were bound to loose. Anyway she and Raiel had already had a taste of Wise Ones’ punishment after a youthful indiscretion of collapsing the sweat tent, unfortunately they did not know a number visiting Wise Ones were enjoying the Aiel sweat bath with the sept’s Wise Ones. Digging holes all day and then having to fill them in.

Both she and Raiel had been hampered in that they could not openly use Maiden Hand talk with Asurii. They had found some ways to shield themselves with the robes so that they could converse secretly. Asurii and Raiel used their eyes and if necessary went apart to converse in Maiden Talk if needed. They did not speak before strangers.

Last to enter, Asurii looked about the Inn searching for a grouping that would indicate those that they were sent to join. Having no idea of number, gender and possible profession, such a task seemed daunting. In fact the circumstances of this mission were “STRANGE” in that they were to go disguised, act in the matter of their personifications, and not to ask any team member as to their

There was only one table where the occupants seemed to be awaiting others, they way they looked about and observed newcomers, was the only indication that they were the one Asurii and Raiel were sent to join.

Asurii put her hand on Raiel’s arm and finger talked using the simplest of words, so that Raiel could feel what Asurii was signing to her.

<>

They walked up and sat down, as if they were expected, the fact the neither of the others reacted or remarked was evidence enough that these were the ones they were seeking.

Finally the red Aes Sedai, followed by her Warder directly approached the table were the 4 sat. When The Aes Sedai signaled them to follow, none of the others seemed to question her right to summons them, so Asurii followed Raiel. A secret smile, hidden by the hood of the robe, came to Asurii’s lips as the Red Aes Sedai seemed put out that she was not shown proper respect.
Asurii, with Raiel, followed slightly to the rear of the group keep a watch on them all and on her surroundings. Unlike the others, neither Raiel or Asurii had to speed up to tay with the Red Sister.

Reaching a place behind the Inn they stopped. Waiting there were 6 others, and then the Red Sister thrust a bottle at them.

"Azyruies Revenge, may not have much for taste but it works wonders on the mind. When you all wake up, follow the red stones."

Before taking a drink from the bottle, Asurii positioned her spears to be easily reached. When it was her turn to drink, she almost coughed it back up, so vile and retched was its taste. Quickly she slipped from consciousness.

Waking, Asurii knew almost immediately that they were somewhere else. The feeling of the air, and the smalls were new and strange. There was stillness to the air as they were within walls. Asurii slowly let her body feeling itself fully before trying to move. Little movements at first to test how fully functional she was. As she tested her body she listened for any indication of the others. She heard someone stirring and walking about but could not see them without moving. Having prepared her spears Asurii took hold of them and in one sinuous motion stood and readied herself.

Almost at the same instance Raiel rose.

Subject: Moving Out

Xuor melds into the forest and only because Logan follows closely does he precieve him. It takes time to scout the area.

Thr Orcs seem less worried about what might come out of the forest and all the guards and sentries are position on the flanks and between the grasslands and the forest where they are hiding.

Some hours go by only with two notable glitches, one where an alert Orc seems to hear-see-smell something and moves out in the their direction. A close pass by Draug and the Orc loses interest. The second glitch was when a pair of Orcs get into a fight and when one breaks for it, he comes close to where Briana and Highnar are hiding.

Moving back to the horses, the group confers as to what they found. There are 150 to 200 Orcs hiddewen in the forest's edge. There are indications that there are at least 3 separate bands joined in this endeavor.

Elessar suffers the pain and pats the young moonhorse on the nose and when the roar from above is gone she drags herself back up the ladder and is stoppeed by the trapdoor. She finds she must take out her healing wand and use it on herself to get enough strength back to open the trapdoor in the floor. Almost exhausted by that effort, Elessarae crawls, afraid that she would faint from the pain and effort of standing, to where the Druid lay and began to use charges from her wand to get him healed enough to be conscious.

Only when he is conscious does she use the wand on herself.

In that time she wondered what had brought all the owls to the tower. Could it be in someway tied to the owl she had killed and brought here.

Elessarae continued her blade sweeping about her and ran, only as the Druid did, but her aim was not for the way down, but for the Captain of the City Guard helpless on the floor.

Grabbing his right arm in her left, she heaved him up.

"TAKE HEART, THE KING NEEDS YOU." she yells into his ear, while half dragging and lifting him and her blade danced about them as a shield between the menacing owls and their bodies. She then starts to sing a song of encouragement, one Bards learned very early on in their training. She used it now to encourage the Captain and the others as needed.

She aims for the way down and safety, she hopes. As she gets to the stairs to the lower levels she sends the captain first and then makes sure all were down in front of her, she will desend.

If the Druid or the Dwarf are still in the tower room she will keep the way safe and open for them.

Elessarae raised a booted foot and stomps down hard on the downed owl. She then races to the Druid and raises the volume of her song until it fills the room. She positions herself between the Druid and the owls, weaving a dance of blade and footwork, trying to be everywhere at once. Defending the Druid and maiming and killing as many of the owls as possibe was her main focus.

Demon birds I will defy you.
What'er your goal I will deny you.
See my sword now flash before you.
Come now meet your death.

Strangely certain words seem to pop into her head as she sings them. Creating verses that had nothing to do with the standard verses she had learned, yet they had everything to do with the situation at hand.

Everything she every learned at the Tower, along with moves and bladework that combined maneuvers into something new as she adapted to the enemy. Elessarae pits her entire being into the battle.

Xuor moves off silently into the forest, riding for now, but soon he signals for them to halt and dismount. He points off the the southeast through the heavier brush that grew more towards the edge of the forest. It is a about a 1/2 mile to where the group is signaled to get low and slow. The smell of Orcs is unmistakable.

And why are the owls so intent to rip my face up? You would think they don't like me. HEHE.

Anyway Death to Demoniac Owls.

If Elessarae can block the window she will, if not she will use her sword will sweep the window opening in rapid, deadly cutting arcs, a blade barrier to anymore incoming owls; forwrd cut, reverse cut, jab, and sweep.

Her song raises in volume as she bars the window with her sword.

She has no time to wonder what the others are doing, her entire focus was on stopping the incoming owlsa by maiming and killing them.

Xuor follows Draug carefully making his way though the forest. Draug's growl was an indication that he had not liked what he found. Approaching from downwind, Xuor can smell and hear them before he sees them. Orcs. A very large group (about a hundred armed and armored for battle. This being late afternoon some orcs are grumbling that they did not get enough sleep. Another bigt orc quells them promising Elf flesh to eat befor the night was over. This is not a group that a even the experience warriors among them could take on along.

Xuor makes his way back to the group as quickly as he can and reports what he has found "Orcs, about a hundred all armed and armored for war. One said they will eat elf flesh tonight." He waits to see what will be decided.

Elessarae draws pulls her bow and moves quickly to the window, "Sing loug or plug you ears, their gibberish causes despair and hopelessness."

She grabs three arrows with her right hand and places two of them under one finger of her left hand holding the bow, the third she notches and looks for an target, while she begins to sing the song she sang this morning at the river.

"See thee now the foe before us,
Blades and bows are now in focus,
Evil comes now like locust,
A death dirge is the chorus,

"Strike now bow and arrow deeply,
Blades drawn now to sweep thee quickly.
Death will come to you now neatly,
Meet thy fate, we give sweetly."

Elessarae falls back to the standard words and sing as she faces the foe that comes at them. It was a song of defense and defiance, of standing against the impossible and succeeding.

Logan and Lorae trade places and work to give Highnar the basics of riding.

Xuor scouts ahead with Draug sweeping through the underbrush and ferns chasing out birds and small animals that ferquent such hidden places.

By midday the forest begins to lighten, the trees are not so thick or tall.

Draug circles back to Xuor after a sweep and stops in front of him, then turn east and growls.

Elessarae took in the entire ambiance of the Tower, and its vagarities. It was a puzzle in itself. Needless to say a Master Druid would create such an abode.

Elesarre knew she was climing stairs but the next level it seemed that she reversed her track and instead of going upwards it felt like they had descended into the earth.

Next Elessar entered a tunnel that lead up first, but bendt even into a horizontal walkway, barely high enough to stand in. The walls were made of rock and dirt, roots hung overhead, and the smell of earth was everywhere.
The darkness of the tunnel led into a room where a single lantern illuminated a desk. The atmosphere was that of a badger’s burrow. In a corner a hunched figure was digging at the earth, but when they entered he turned. It was a Khord, covered in dirt.

Elessarae paused a raised an eyebrow. That was when Telliri passed her nodding to the Khord. Elessarae wondered why he had not lead her to the steps, if he were going to meet the Druid himself.

Telliri moved through the room into the next tunnel and started climbing a rock wall. Elessar followed him, but she paused to look at the colt, who could not climb such a rock wall.

The next room was bright white, and carried several large windows. In the middle stood a pedestal, where an old elf was caring a flower covered plant.

“Welcome Telliri, good to see you again. Any changes? Oh, you brought company! Welcome, youngling. I am Urvanial Westwind, druid of Sillarion.”

Elessarae bowed her head deeply in respect for the Grand Druid. "I am Elessarae Isiliri of Meg Nost, The Captian brought me because I encountered 3 of the Twisted Ones and killed one of them, A demonic owl."

She quickly tells her story, as she told it to the Captian, ending with the departure of the Moonhorse mare and the colt following her.

"Although I am concerned with the appearence of the Twisted Ones, I am already set a quest by the Bladesingers, which is now complicated by the Moonhorse colt left in my care."

Elessasrae stopped part way up the stairs and turned to look back at the Moonhorse colt. Unlike regular horses, Moonhorse foals stayed with their dam's until they were 4-5 to learn what is was to be a Moonhorse and to use their inate magical abilities.

Elessarae thought back to the scene as the mare moved to her foal and communed with him, then after that she left, and the foal did not follow his dam, but Elessarae.

It suddenly hit Elssarae that the mare had made her the the colt's guardian.

"Come, Little One, and she moved back down to guide the colt to mount the stair with her.

As she and the colt moved up the stairs she could not help but think of how convuluted her path had become. Her visit to her parents was for nought, for now was added the incident of the altered animals, and the the guardianship of a Moonhorse colt. Above it all was the quest set for her, by the Bladesingers.

She nods to the man as he intoroduces himself, "My name is Elessarae Isiliri daughter of Captain Almara Isiliri of the Queen's Guard and the Bard Arensilendyl Isiliri. I am on an overnight pass from the Megilindar Nost, having been assigned to a quest. I was hoping to see my family before I had to return, but the creatures which attacked the moonhorse have taken presidence over that."

"As for the Moonhorse," she pauses at a pang of regret, "she was not mine, but on of the free ones."

Elessarae follows the officer to the Stalk Tower. She had heard of the Druid, but never had the occasion to ever visit his tower. Now as she stepped into the natural setting of the place she let the peace of it fill her. She took solice in the ambience of the Tower.

Elessare moved along between the ferns and other growing things to find the stairs. Pushing aside a drape of willow branches she finally found the stairs. All the while the silvery-white colt follwed her. She mounted the steps and began to climb upwards. She did not think the colt would try to tackle the stairs.

Elessarae rode on knowing that it was useless to dissuade a Moonhorse from its mindset, and he followed.

Just crossing the River of Light brought joy to her heart, and seeing the outsides of the city and riding into it caused the joy to blossom into something much more, elation, and pride, in its beauty, grace, style, arrangement, the balance of nature and Elven-made abodes. Here was the epitome of what the Elves stood for, Elf and Nature in perfect harmony. Most Elves living outside the area of the City made a pilgrimage to the Aerie of High King at least once in their long lives.

As much as she longed to see her parents, the scene at the river gave her a different purpose, not even taking into account that that she was s Bladesinger, it was the forlorn, last look of the mare on her colt that sent shivers up her spine. What hellish power had build such a look of despair. Above all, now, she wanted answers.

She turned from her path and rode to the Royal Guard Headquarters. It was also possible that her mother was there. Elessarae rode up to the gates of the Royal Guard and announced, “I have urgent business with the Guard. With that she rode in straight to the main office, not waiting for a yea, or nay. She jumped off Gharion, deftly loosened girth, and then grabbed the bag with the dead bird from the back of her saddle. With this she marched into the building and up to the first office of high rank she saw. A thud of hooves of the wooden floors told her the colt followed.

Elessarae moved up to the man’s desk, a beautiful slab of naturally shaped oak burl, luckily clear of papers, “We are minus one Moonhorse mare,” she says without introduction, as she unties the bag and empties it contents on his desk, “because of this hellish owl and two others like it, unfortunately they got away, but not uninjured.

The pain in her leg was well worth the death of one of the ill-omened birds. Elessarae removes its body from her sword and then heals herself. Then she approaches the Moonhorse to heal it only to have to move off. She is puzzled that the Moonhorse would not accept healing. She that takes up the body of the scwered owl and and packs it away on Gharion and then leading the young horse she follows the Moonhorse.

It had paused and looked back at her, as if the say, I am waiting for you.

The horse guided Elessar through a part of the forest with thick growth and short trees. A little later they both entered a small grove, and there stood a small moonhorse, a young teen in human or elven counting. The elder moonhorse moved to its child and softly pushed its nose against the youngling’s head. A minute went by, and suddenly the mother withdrew and moved out of the grove, without looking back.

Tears welled up in Elessarae's eyes, she feels that she has witnessed a final farewell. Maybe there were wounds the mare suffered that she could not heal with a wand. She watches the mare until she is out of sight.

Elessarae kneels and prays.

"Adaron, Lord of the Forest, (Kith-Jora) please lend your grace to the mare, who was sorely injuried in a fight with some demon owls. Let her find peace and comfort within you."

"Solinari, I thank you for your aid in driving off the owls of darkness. Your Light was greatly apprieciated."

Elessarae begins to the the Elven Song of Psssing, she knows the mare has gone off to die. She had suffered greatly under the attack of the demon owls. As much as Elessarae wanted to heal the mare, she also knew that the mare would probably not have lived long even with healing. The fatal gibberish of the owls had sapped her of strength, that no manner of healing could cure.

When the song is at an end, Elessarae stands takes up her sword, cleans and oils it before returning it to its scabbard. She then swings the reins back over Gharion's head and mounts.

The young Moonhorse was still there.

"I am sorry I did not get to your mother fast enough. May Adaron guide you to a herd where you can find safety."

With that she turns Gharion and heads back to the river and the her destination.
