Subject: Asbenford and Alarms

By the time Cerric finishes his walkabout, he finds himself back at the inn, the long shadows overlapping as the sun continues to loser inself in the western sky. As he approaches the inn and heavy bell starts to sound and the people that had been lazing away in chairs on the porch were suddenly up and moving.

About then a big man in well made armor gallops up to the Inn. "Militia front and center. Riders to your mounts Spread the word, Orcs are mounting an attack on Eventide and possibly Ashbenford."

People rush from the area on those words, preparing for a possible attack. For the next 15 minutes the bell is rung long and hard. other bells further away take up the alarm. Shops and houses visible from the inn are boarding up their windows. Even the innkeeper is shuttering his windows.

In the space of 20 minutes armed men and women start congregating before the inn. 4 empty wagons pulled by pairs of horses also arrive up to the inn. Of course everyone wants to know more, but the man in charge tells everyone to wait.

From over the river come 2 riders. the first is a tall, well-built human male in fine chain mail mounted on a heavy war horse. The second rider is even taller peroson, though finer of limb, an elf, but of unique size. This one is clearly a female wearing cunningly wrought scale like armor that looked like overelapping ivy leaves over a suit of the exquisite mithral chain. She is mounted on a silvery grey stallion with shimmering white dapples all over its body

Cerric recognizes that he is seeing one of the fable Elven Moonhorses, (Fantastic roll) he knows such a sighting is strange, it was said all the Moonhorses were taken to Evermeet when the Elven Court left the Faerun mainland.

The knight stands in his stirrups even more impressive than just sitting on his huge war horse as he calls out to the those gathered, "Those of you with mounts and as many as can fit in the wagons will help Eventide, so mount up. This Lady will lead you there. I will be staying here with the militia and most the rest of you and prepare to defend Ashbenford. The word has gone out; help will come as soon as it can. Everyone do your best! Archers to the house tops. Spearmen and pikes to the front lines." The man voice rings out clearly and strong. He is use to being heard and obeyed.

Cerric can go on a walkabout Ashbenford in the late afternoon let say to gather more tales. Sorry I did not catch that earlier. Cerric make your changes and the Vatta make your.

Another mutated beast, Elessarae pauses in her ride to view the animal. How far ranged was this contagion; owls, rabbits, squirrels and now this possum. What would it be like when a true predator was also tainted?

As the two figures leap from cover, Elessarae's hand is on her sword and her sword half out, such was the training she recieved at the Tower. Even as they speak her sword is full clewar of her sheath out and ready. Stating the obvious she nods

"I am aware of the mutated animals and have even fought some demonic owls," and when they inquire of the health of her horses, she is puzzled, "but why do you ask about the health of my horses?"

Inside the inn at Ashbenford the drinks were flowing as the afternoon waned. The clientel was mainly locals with a few travelers scattered about. The main topics were the weather, the condition of the crops and the lingering mystery of Tilverton.

The later topic was spoken of in husted voices, the mystery of the missing town was a mystery that could not longer be investigated as a company of Purple Dragon Knights and a goodly number of War Wizards guarded the empty space that had once been a thriving border town of Cormyr. They had been sent out after the disappearence of a number of adventing groups that went into the now empty area of the town and were never seen again.

Xuor, with Drau on his heels, moves quickly through the brush and around tree trucks staying just enough in front of the Orcs to tease them to continue the chase. All this was accomplished with only one slight stumbled caused be a brace of rabbits bursting out from their burrow just where his foot was about to go, Xuor burst into the clearing.

The clearing is grassy, fat C shape about 140 feet top to bottom and 120 feet side to side with a copse of trees jetting out from the forest to the right. Xuor is coming at the bottom left and now racing full out toward the inner copse of trees 30 where he planned to do his bow work.

(OOC I am going to try to see if I can load a map. I am going to need some sort of idea where each of you are. AE In the copse of trees in the center or somewhere in the surrounding forest. Though I would think you melee Fighters would be somewhere in the copse of trees in the center.)

While the others arrange themselves into their positions of ambush, Xuor moves quietly through the forest finally coming to the last outpost of the Orc army and moved carefully to an upwind position. The wind was coming from the NW to SE, the same direction as the Moonsea Ride, the main road through Mistledale, which cut thought the Cormantor Forest where once a shooting Star fell to earth and slide along the ground wiping out a great swath of forests. Even after thousands of years only grass grew in the old scar.

Luckily Xuor did not have to go into the grasslands for his scent to be blown into the Orcs' camp. Only after a few minutes there are a sudden cries from the Orc camp.

"ELF!!!"

"MEAT!!!"

Where as Orc's do not have the speed of an Elf, they were tenacious trackers especially when hunting their favorite food.

Elessarae took the entire hour grooming and caring for the horses. She removed Gharion's saddle and pad and turned them over to let them air and dry out. She checked the gelding's back for sore spots, she checked the treeless saddle to make sure the rigging remainded sound. Careless cleaning, not washing and removing old sweat, caused stitching to weaken. Not a thing one would want to happen in a fight of a flight.

Gharion and Comrade were groomed until both were glossy and shiny, since a firm brushing brought out naturals oils to their coats. After going from head to foot Elessarae gave each of them a pound of grain, Gharion because of all the work he was doing, and Comrade because he was still growing. The High Druid figured him about 2 and Moonhorses reached their maximum growth after 3, maturing much like common horses, but after that came the difference, for Moonhorses lived extended lives.

Elessar considered charging the big map tp her parents, but her firm streak of independence keep her from that and a hour later she returned to the shop to pay for the rough copy of the map.

"I thank you for you husband's effort so late in the day." Elessarae pays the woman and accepts the map. She then purchases a waxed mapcase to keep it in.

It was too late to begin her joputrney northward so Elessarae returned home, stabled the horses then watered and feed them herself, since their groom would have already been finished in the stable for the night. Again she let the colt run free.

She took care of herself and cobbled together a meal from things in the larder and pantry. After eating and cleaning up she headed to her room to sleep. She stopped at the Housekeeper's room to let her know she was back again and that she had taken care of her own dinner.

Before going to bed she took the map from the case and laid it out on her desk to let it dry better. While she brushed her hair she studied the map, fixing the names and directions of major sites into her memory.

In the morning she found breakfast waiting and by the time she finished it all Gharion was tacked and ready and the colt wandered about the garden sampling some flowers.

(OOC I will take it that the well wishes and the hug happened before Lorae left them earlier. She would have hated to miss such acts of affection. :NAUGHTY

It had taken the group about 2 hours to survey the Orc implacements. The sun was lowering in the west. Brianna knows that Lorae would have easily made it to the Elven village and then Asbenford by this time. From the groups reconn they know that bands of Orcs are scattered along the edge of the forest. From what you have seen they plan to move in three sections, a middle and two flanks.

Elessarae goes to find Ruan of Hyanda Nost to gather information about the best route to the Moonlit Town and maybe a map. She was hoping that when she returned to Megilindar Tower that she would be provided maps, direction and contacts. Since the eagle's message was delivered she had to make do with what intelligence she could gather on her own. Once she has Ruan's imput, she question townspeople if there was a mapmaker in the town

She does not waste time and gathering what she can she will be off up the Elmare Rilma Duin (Rapture of Light River) heading north.

Before leaving Tinechur she adds grain to her stores, for both Gharion and the colt. As she brushes the colt before leaving she thinks deeply as to a suitable name for now. Her hands drew tha brush over his glossy hide, in the morning light she could see the glittering of a silvery sheen to his coat, like someone had dusted him with powered Mithril. His mane was more snowy white and glistened like snow on a sunny day, the tiny ice crystals refracting light like tiny diamonds. Names like Snow, and Mithril, and Silver came to mind and quickly were replaced with others. She went over all she had bee thought since his guardianship had been passed to her. How he tried to follow her everywhere. Most of all she remembered how he that been at the bottom of the ladder trying to pull her to safety.

"Comrade," that is what I will call you. "You have already proved yourself to be just that. You are my Comrade, until such a name comes that better befits you."

Elessarae carefully paces herself from the first day of her travels. It will be a standard operation procedure for her to Gharion's paces walk, trot, and canter. At times she will dismount and walk or jog alongside of the young gelding and the colt. She keeps careful watch of the young gelding and the Moonhorse, as they might not be used to such sustained travel.

She can not believe that she is retracing her route to Sillarion, but it was north of Tinechur and bound to have the best mapmakers in Sylvari.

Would Elessarae have been given maps or would maps be available in this Elven.

Finding a band of adventurers in the Forest is going to be hard enough as there is little information of who and where they are.

In my nest post Elessarae will be backtracking North and setting up a path to the Moonlit Tower, since it is closest to the Charkran mts, and they might had news of an adventuring group being seen.

Also I would have thought that maps would be provided to Elessarae to help her get to where she needed to go. It is a long trip in unfamiliar territory, she will need to know where towns and citiies are so that she can get supplies along the way. ETC.

Aurii flashes the fingers of her left hand alerting Raiel to take turns at the door with her, both of them attacking the Trolloc blocking it. It would be much like Dancing the Spears, attack, fallback. By rotating the attack they might get the Trolloc off balance, or even keep him busy enough to allow Adahn to get a good hit. They had spent anf year in the Blight fighting Trollocs in such a manner that it was a well honed tactic.

Asurii crouches and balances on the balls of her feet, ready to spring forward in her attack. When the she sees an opening she lunges forward driving her spear into the Trolloc.

Elessarae nods to both, "Pleased to meet you," and sits down at the table with them.

"It was Gyvontill who gave me leave to go see my parents in Syllarion, even giving me the funds to purchase a horse to ride there. Fortune smiled on me when Gharion became mine, for the young gelding carried me to Syllarion from here, in one day. Though the journey was interrupted when I came across a Moonhorse mare under attack by what I would call Demonic owls. With some difficulity I was able to drive off the owls and free her only she had suffer so much physically and mentally from the demented gibberish that drove one to despair, that she refused healing and then left me with her colt and went off to die."

"I took the bird I killed to the guards in Syllarion and the captaint took me to see the High Druid. There the owls attack again, coming in a great swarm. We were overwhelmed until the Druid blasted them all with a great fireball."

"The point of the trip was for nought as my parents were not home, so I took off this morning and am now here."

Elessarae let the quick recitation settle in their minds.

Subject: Elessarae

Before taking leave of the High Druid, Elessarae asks him three questions.

"Why do you think the owls came to your tower?" she wondered if bringing the dead owl from the river caused the attack.

What is the colt’s name?" She knew from her mother that Moonhorse had names given by their sire and dam. She wanted to call him by his proper name.

"Would you know of a cleric who could recharge my Cure Light Wounds wand for a nominal fee?" (If there is someone, she will leave her wand to be charged before going home.)

Elessarae, once she had her answers, headed for home. Which turned out to be a lesson in futility, as no one was home. Because her mother's and father's jobs required that they be away for home for periods of time, there was at least the housekeeper-cook and the gardener-groom in residence. Elessarae greeted both and learned that her mother was on duty with the queen who was visiting a local noble. Her father was with the Queen as he was a favorite court bard.

Elessarae handed the reins for her young gelding to the groom with instructions to treat him royally. Then return with brushes, food and water for the colt, and she would brush him herself. She let the moonhorse colt follow her into what can only be described as a garden in a hous, or perhaps it was a house in a garden, as it was near impossible to tell where one left off and the other began. There were walls of living ivy, tree trunks lined passages. Druid shaped stairs circled the outside of a massive tree where the upper stories of the house were built.

Going up to her room she was hit with a pang of emptiness. It was home and yet it was not. She felt missed the banter of her parents as they both talked at once, telling each other what they had been doing. Being the youngest of 5, and many years junior to her next oldest sibling she had grown used to being the only child in the house. Her sibs were all grown and either married or off on their own pursuits. Sometimes her parents seemed to forget she was there. Now she would be off again, and with that in mind she gathered some clothes for the journey, the outfit that the High Druid had given her was too grand for traveling. It did not take her long and she was soon downstairs, not wanting to leave the colt alone for too long.

First she went out to brush him, spending time to talk to him as she curried and combed every hair on him, picked and brushed his hooves and then dressed then with special oils. She checked to make sure he was well fed and then she moved to a big chair in the living room and took up a writing board she had brought from her room, to comprise a letter to her parents, explaining that she had been made a Bladesinger and that she had been given an assignment that would take her from the Tower for a while.

Dinner was pan fried trout, a favorite of hers, sautéed vegetables in a buttery sauce, fresh fruit and a honey sesame fig bar. Later she would raid the pantry of every fig bar the cook had made. These she wrapped in waxed parchment and stashed with the clothes she had assembled. Except for a couple that she fed to the gelding and the colt before going to bed. She let the cook and the groom know she would be leaving early in the morning.

Rather than go upstairs she pulled a blanket and pillow from her bed and went downstairs to sleep on the sofa, so that the colt could be nearby.

Early in the morning she was up, but not before the cook who had breakfast ready and the groom who had saddled the gelding and had him waiting in the garden with the colt. Elessarae ate and then thanked the cook for her thoughtfulness.

“Your mother would never let me hear the end of it if you were not properly fed. I have added dried fruits and journey rations to you saddlebags as well as more of the sesame bars I had set aside for your father. They have cherry and plum fillings. There are also some carrots and apple for your horses. All have been packed in your saddlebags along with your clothes. I also added a furzed wool cloak (wool cloak is made very large and then the whole thing is boiled in water to cause it to shrink and tighten the fabric so that it is wind and almost waterproof.) rubbed with lanolin, it will keep rain from soaking through.”

Elessarae takes her leave, handing her letter to the housekeeper to give to her parents. She then takes the reins of the young gelding and leaps into the saddle without the use of the stirrups. She turns him south east toward Bladesinger’s Tower. Following alongside is the moonhorse colt. She is hoping all goes well and she can get to Tinechur in one days ride then rest at the inn and finish the rest of the ride to Megilindar Nost the next morning.
