Topic: When the Silence Breaks...
Subject: Liriel Alatariel Amandil

Liriel shucked her pack and places it between her legs, stepping on one of the shopulder straps, and sat at a table in the corner not far from the fireplace. Her hands and face were cold from a quick wash in a fountain and she tucked her hands under her cloak to warm them. They were half of her ticket to food and a bed.

She went over in her mind the Bill of Fare scrawled with chalk on a piece of slate. She lifted her purse out from under her padding for her chail mail shirt and the clothes she wore over them. It made her look more substantial and less frail, though there had been fools enough to think she was an easy mark anyway. She knew the contents, 8 Rommels, 20 silver pieces and 8 coppers. After breakfast she would have to see the proprietor about singing and playing for bed and board.

Human lands were so strange and inhospitable. Anywhere in an Elven Forest she would have been invited into a home or inn with out her needing to ask, such was the way Bards were treated by Elves. After decades of study, Liriel wanted to set out and gather songs and poems and Epic stories from all the people of the world. It was her secret desire to become a Master Bard of Renown. So it was she wandered out from her forest home to join the foot-traffic of the road, stopping at villages and towns to learn as much as she could, playing for her bed and board, and then moving on.

So it was that she had entered the city this morning at dawn, having come too late in the evening and had found the gates closed, as did a few others who huddled together in a small camp to wait till morning when the gates opened at dawn. Playing for the stragglers got her dinner of rabbit stew and cheese and hard bread. This morning she would have to be frugal, until she could find a position. She waved to a passing serving wench and made her order, 2 hard-boiled eggs, 3 sausages, and a copper-loaf of bread and a pint of mead.

At that moment a big Gano rose up to his tall height of six feet, where all could see him. A number of scars decorated his weathered face, and the signs of not shaving for a few days gave him an especially grizzled look. His eyes were ice blue, and his hair dark brown and wild in appearance. A large wolf mantle garbed his shoulders, and the rest of his clothing was made from deer hides. A large bearded axe hung at his waist, the leather-wrapped haft hanging to just below his knee.

As he spoke to a rather unusual group of patrons this early morning, his thick accent revealed his home to be north, in the frozen land of Dascau.

“My friends. I ask that you listen to me, even if just for a few moments.” As his deep voice rumbled throughout the barroom, all eyes turned on him, included those of the barkeep, Jakkam Gren, a rather rotund fellow who frequently told of past stories of travel and adventure.

“My name is Gunther, of the Eternal Mountain clan. I know of your plight with the missing Jaques le Vert, for he came to me shortly before disappearing. I was there with him when the mountain crumbled, though my courage failed me upon that eve, and I lost him in the gravel storm as I fled.”

Gunther’s eyes flickered at that statement. His appearance surely suggested somebody with more brawn than to flee like that! But then, few people actually claimed to have seen the star obliterate the mighty peak… He quickly regained his composure, and carried on.

“I have been given a second chance to redeem myself for that shameful act. My village’s shaman has had a vision in which le Vert is in danger. He is lost within the ruins of Dal Aurem, and I may regain favour from the ancestors by finding him.

“I cannot do this alone, however, and I seek the aid of a band of those who possess the strength of the bear, and the spirit of the crag lion, to accompany me into the rubble of that great mountain. The future of my village is dependent on this, and I promise a blessing from my shaman in return for assistance. It is the most I can offer.”

Now that would be a tale worth experiencing, thought Liriel, and then remembered the notices she had come across posted all over the town, such a journey to find and recues such a noted man would indeed bring fame to her name.

“Tell me, man of the North,” Lirel stood to be seen, though she only came up to the top of his chest. “Is this quest of yours related to what is posted on the notices about this town.” If it was it would be a perfect chance to further her profession and gain some needed funds. Her pack had become heavier as she had picked things up in her travels, a pack animal, even a riding horse would be indispensible to her, raising her above those of the bardic muse who traveled on foot.

Fair of skin, Liriel had the youthful, ageless face of Elvenkind. Sticking up from under a knitted cap was a braid of coppery-red hair. Her eyes were emerald green, though as she moved there seemed to be flashes of gold coming from them. Her clothes, meant for cold weather were of 2 shades of gray. A bowcase was resting against her table, there was a sword at her side, two daggers one on each side of her hips, and that did not count the ones hidden in her boots. Across her chest was a wide gray roughout leather bandoleer with 5 square pouches lined up from shoulder to hip.

Alea first intones a blessing just before the group initiates their attacks. She will also do a simple prayer to Corellon as the epitome of Elven Archers.

"I say the we all shoot together, on a count of 3 and then release on the word fire."

She looks to the others for affirmation.

Ok Looking at the map where did Elendil and Bronwyn come from? Did we go straight south over the mountains or did we go around and come in from the NW?

Did we follow a road or did we blaze a trail. Is there a road going south, and if so where?

Elendil moves back taking Bronwyn with her. She throws part of her cape around the small human to help hide her as they back into a thicket.

She is hoping the Goblins will move out with their Orc leaders and that the caged prisoner will be left unguarded or with only a couple of Goblins to guard him.

For now they hunker down and let the Goblins go elsewhere.

"I have to check it out, and at least see if there is a way to take out the goblins, and if indeed there is a prisoner. For now I will lead us wide around it and then I will scout it out. I want you safely on the south side so that we can head that way afterwards."

Elendil will cast her speak with animals spell, and tell Talon about getting into the closest big tree when he hoots to alert her of danger or return to her.

Next she leads Bronwyn at a safe distance around where she heard the speaking come from. Once to a good place to hide the pony, she stops and ties the pony and where she leaves her pack hanging from the pack saddle. The pony still has its mouth closed with a strap.

"I may need you, but stay behind me your wand ready," she ignors Bronwyn's protestations. Stay back 20 feet and I will go slow."

Elendil moves with special care, for Bronwyn's sake, back to where she heard the speaking, having Bronwyn staying well back. If she needs to she will pick up the tiny young woman and carry her.

Elendil first takes up the body of Talon and uses her healing belt on Talon. Praying she is not to late to save his life . (One charge 2s6) WHEn done with that she draws the body into some brush scuffs the blood from the trail, and hurries back to get her bow and Bronwyn. She believes the Goblins, she heard had a captive, but she has to make sure the Elven Mage is safe and secure before she checks it out.

Sheathing her sword as she retrieves the bow and arrow, she then finds Bronwyn, but not before half stumbling over the body of a dead goblin with the stench of burned flesh.

"Well done. Now, I think there are more Goblins ahead, I heard them speaking, and I think they have a Human prisoner."

If needed, Elessarae will sing lowly to cover Geim's intonation of his healing spells. While openly trying to comfort him by patting him on the shoulder with her head, and commiserating with him that this was no trip for a scholar and a bard.

Elessarae goes back to resting and whispers to Geim to do the same to regain his spells. Once he has them and if he needs to cover his casting of them, she will tell him to let her know and she will sing to cover the chanting. She could put all her spells into healing, even the flying creature needed to be healed. She would keep daze, flare, mage hand, and maybe animate rope is as.

Before she, hopefully, sleeps she looks to Kurok. "First, we must be healed up before we can do anything, so wait for a signal. Tell me, when is their most active time?" It would be best to catch them when they least expected it.

If they could only get back to 4 guards it would be of a help, she could daze one early on and the try to lure them into the cage. She was thinking of throwing her voice and pretending to be one of the goblins and spot a gold coin in the cage. That just might get them to open the cage and come in. Then she could flare one, and they could use the ropes that tied them and use them as garrotes and that would keep the goblins from yelling for help. It was difficult to yell when your throat's being crushed.

Thondrek could use his dimension hop to get behind one and throttle one of them.

Before she goes to sleep she shares her ideas with the others.

Lorae tuns Moon Dancer and waits for Cerric to speak to Vatta. She had seen his looks toward her after the battle in Cormantor. In that she would not interfer. When Cerric turns to go, she raises her hand to him.

"Go in the Light," she calls out in farewell.

She rides quietly with the others until they reach the village. When she spies the village she does as she has often done, deglamorize herself and Moon Dancer. It made interactions with common folk easier, as long as they had no ill feelings towards Elves.

"Some of you spoke of getting arrows, I think this is the best place. I will see to getting rooms at the inn and stabling for the horses."

As she moves on she sees Vatta doing much the same thing, ahead of her.

A cold smile lifts the corners of her lips as she faces a favored enemy. Her hate of Goblins had started when she was a child, when a mob of them came upon she and her friends in the forest and in fighting to get free, her best friend was killed. To this day Goblins were an anthema to Eledil.

Elendi pressed the goblin away from Talon and swung with all her precision and might to kill it with this blow.

"Also we might try to make a long shot down the way a bit ansa see if we can draw them off, or spring the strap, if there is one. We might even learn if the bridge is trapped."

Alea unslings her Composite Longbow holding it in her left hand and using 2 fingers to hold 3 extra arrows in her left hand, notching a 4th in the bow.

Topic: The Chakran Portal - an Adventure in Audalis
Subject: Elessarae

]
Elessarae did her best to choke down the gruesome gruel, she knew she and the others needed their strength and to rest in order to regain spells to cast healing. In no way were they ready to escape.

From the moment of her testing to be named a Bladesinger, Elessarae's life had become one major life-threatening incident after the other. In the last few weeks she felt overwhelmed by the situations of the MAOUS and the infected trees and lacking the experience to handle the situations as they unfolded, but she had to preserver, it was that or die. Elessarae would not allow the deaths of hundreds of Syls to be the fate of her failure.

What was to be a simple journey to join this group and scout out the Goblins in the Chakran Mts. had become an epic journey, so much so that her name had reached far to the north before her, and her portrait was being painted by an artist at Runya Nost. She had already seen so much death, since leaving Megilindar a few weeks ago, to last the common Syl a lifetime, but then Bladesingers were not common, they were the elite warriors of the Sylvari, knights by human standards.

After gagging down the gruel, Elessarae set the bowl at the edge of the cage, and planned to rest and recoup her spells. That was until the Chakran Khord decided to act.

Kurok began to scrootch his stocky frame to a spot near the center of the cage, putting what distance he could between him and any of the bars. Facing their orcish audience, he spoke first, in almost a whisper, to those of the party nearest to him in Khordish as he moved, "Get ready. Gonna try for a reaction, get one of 'em ta open the gate."

Before Elessarae could speak any words to the wise, he launched into his tirade.
________________________________________

To the orcs, speaking Orc, he says, "Ya gupes watching sommpin' intrestin'? One o' ya's got globes enuff ta maybe come closer ta the freak show? T'inkin' not, cuz I knows there ain't a globe or two on the bunch o' ya's! And I knows ya's can't kill us ta get it, 'er ya's arreddy woulda, tohk? (no?) Shame, too! What ya's missed, and what I still gots, might be worth havin', tohk? Could mean rich and could mean power. Butcha not gettin' nuttin' fer nuttin'. Gonna break my chains here an' take on who o' ya's come ta get it. Got my gonna-do. What's ya's sayin'?"

Kurok then falls silent, his unmistakably taunting grimace showing a mouthful of broken or misplaced teeth, and unadulterated laugther sparkling in his eyes along with the firelight. He looks neither right nor left, but directly at the orc group outside the bars, blinking seldom but quickly. Then suddenly, although still grimacing in humor and sarcasm, his face takes on a pained look of intense concentration, eyes narrowing and brow furrowing deeply. The muscles beneath his armor become taut and bulge with power. Corded tendons in his neck show, along with the veins pumping the blood to his now-straining arms as he now seeks to break the chains. They want a show to watch, do they? By the crushing Hand of Kharox, he'll give them one! He -- -- has -- -- had -- -- ENOUGH !!

Thondrek added his own support, "At a boy, give em bonds a squeeze like a green skin’s neck aye. Heave and pull till they snap like an Orc’s spine, and have at the bars like an ogre's tiny pecker ya!"

Elessarae grimaced, this was not the time for this display and all she could see was that it was going to cause more trouble for them.

With a mighty battle cry, Kurok pulled at his chains with all his might. Then, finally, one of the links broke, and his hands were free. For a moment, the crowd went quiet, and then roared louder than before. The Orcs that had initially sat down to watch the cage were now head butting and chest bumping in excitement, knocking over goblins as they went. Kurok went ahead and used his anger to rip off his ankle-bonds as well. However, he found a halt at the bars of the cage they were in. As soon as he approached, he found two spear points coming his way as guards approached.
The crowd went suddenly silent, but it was not the guards prodding that caused it. An old goblin with a furry cloak with a high pointy hood came walking towards the cage, and the other goblins and even the Orcs parted to let him pass. A crooked staff supported the old goblin, three dead rats and a live raven topping the ancient wood. A boney finger was pointed at the cave and he raspily crowed in the goblin tongue: “I need four more guards on that cage, and this ruckus is ending now.”

He was not mad, upset or even frightening, but the crowds quieted, and more than one goblin went on his business again. Four goblins grabbed spears from a nearby tent and hurried to join the ones that were already keeping Kurok away from the bars of the cage. The old goblin spent three seconds of his gaze on the captives, and then left again.

Elessarae did her best to put on the air of being cowed as the tiny goblin shaman appeared, doing a make one with the floor of the cage.

“Sit down!” she hissed after the shaman had gone. “Ill timed,” she whispered, “we need to heal up. Now you have added to the problem.”

(OOC: Now how tired was Jeanne/Bri. Well she posted her actions in Q&A. So I move it for her.)

"Goblins," Browyn heard what Elendil said with a shock. She takes out her precious wand of magic missiles that hee mentor Elenore had made for her and gripped it firmly. At the same time she prepares magic missile spell which is really more effective than her wand is.

Here she was wishing she was many miles away from her, either at home, or in her old mentor's snug cottage, anywhere, but in this dark forest in the middle of nowhere with goblins all about her.

Bronwyn looked frantically around and when she saw Elendil disappear into the forest. she took a step forward not wanting to be left alone. Leading her pony forward she held out the wand ready to use at anything that came after her or her pony. Buttercup had everything she own of value carefully packed onto her back. She moved in close to Buttercup standing at her neck and guiding though the woods.

Only where. She couldn't see Elendil any more and her cautious nature kept her from calling out to the elven ranger. Bronwyn gripped the lead rope tightly almost frozen with indecision. All she could do was stand there and listen for any tell-tale sound that might mean a goblin is about. HE eyes search the dark woods for any sign of movement any hint of sound to forewarn her.
