You're both very welcome to join in this game.

A paladin will come in handy, and if you can follow Ayrn's links then everything will be fine, I'm sure.

Drakar, you've been in one of my games before, also in the Audalis setting. I'm sure you'll be able to manage. What kind of character were you thinking of?

Also: Eol decided to join us, so it looks like we're having a bit of a party already. That's good news!

Right now we have:
Ayrn - cleric
Gboy - rogue
Eol - rogue/ranger
Vesper - paladin
Drakar - ?

We could use one more player to get things started, but 5 is also enough to get things going.

You can grab your character from the last time, Gboy. I'm sure it's in the old Q/A somewhere. Or you can make a new one.

Topic: The Spores of Itanlok - Second Attempt
Subject: The Spores of Itanlok - Second Attempt

Hello Good Gamers of the Inn,

About a year ago, I started an adventure called 'The Spores of Itanlok'. It was supposed to be an all-Khord (dwarf) adventure, but stranded after about 50 posts because of people disappearing.

Now I’m planning on continuing my series of Audalis Short Adventures by giving this one a second attempt. With ‘short’ I mean a simpler plot and faster run from start to end. The first one I did was called ‘You Filthy Little Thief!!!’, which was followed by 'A Local Legend' which is still running in the Rules Based DnD forum. You can check these out to get a sample of my style of DMing.
How short this adventure really is will depend on the players.

That could be you!

I’m looking for a group of 4 to 6 people to start this thing. We’ll be playing in the RDInn created setting of Audalis, specifically in the city of Khordal (which is the Kingdom of the Khordaldrum (dwarves)). This doesn’t mean you HAVE to be a Khordaldrum character, but I would really like an All Khord Team. To promote this I’ll give every Khodaldrum character one extra bonus feat, and a place in the game over other character concepts.

Game Mechanics:
- Dnd edition 3.5, but I can help you convert from 2nd to 3.5 if you need me to.
- Level 8
- Only races from the Audalis Setting, preferably Khord, and classes from PHB.
- Multi-classing is allowed. Prestige classes can be discussed.
- Khordaldrum characters get 1 extra bonus feat.
- Stats are 74 points divided over 6 abilities, with racial bonuses added later on.
- Alignments should be Good (I’ve had my share of Evil and CN characters).
- Starting money is 27.000 GP, standard for level 8 characters.
- You can only have 3 magical items, none of which can be above 13.500 GP
- HP will be rolled by me
- Updates will come once a week, or sometimes in between in case of conversations.
- Rolls in game will be made by the DM, to save time and misunderstanding.
- I do require proper spelling and posts that contain more than a single sentence.

The reason creation is so basic or limited is that this will be a story-concentrated adventure. Yes, there will be fighting, but you’ll need some wits too, to pick up on hints and figure things out. Not every situation should be conquered by blunt force, and if you are a player that only enjoys high stats and whacking monsters, this may not be the adventure for you.
You do not need to have any special knowledge of the Audalis Campaign Setting, though I would advice to glance over some of the information to get a feel of the setting.
And for all you people who are afraid of trying your hand at 3.5 rules, I will promise you that roleplaying wise, there doesn't have to be a difference in editions.

As for the story:
There is something strange going on in a part of the Khordaldrum Kingdom. Strange noises and lights have been spotted in an underground mushroom forest, and people have started to disappear. It is your job to investigate.

Got Questions? Feeling interested? Enthusiastic? Post your intentions and character concepts here, and hopefully we’ll get a nice group of players together.

I’m looking forward to starting this again!

As Driscoll wanted to return to the tunnel, he found Isilimiri and Aldagen already in the room behind him. Tamuril was still in the tunnel, waiting on what would happen next.
Aldagen moved softly as a breeze over a desert, but Isilimiri pounded upon the floor with every step, even though she was trying very hard not to make a sound. Still, the manlizards were too caught up in their chanting, and did not hear he intruders.

"What d' y' think we ought t' do now, lasses?" Driscoll whispered. The next step was up to them. Were they going to attack, or wait until something else happened. And if so, how long would they wait?

Subject: big room

Driscoll crept closer to the other opening in the room, against the advice of his companions who beckoned him to return to the tunnel. He was silent as a mouse, doing his best not to be heard and to catch what was happening on the other side of the cave’s walls.

He could hear the voices of several manlizards, their tongue and tone too alien for him to tell the differences. It sounded like there were at least eight of them. There was movement, sometimes the sharp sound of nail on rock, other times a muffled brush. Then there was silence.

Driscoll dared to take a quick peek into the next room. Cautiously he glanced around the corner, to see the rest of the big room he had spotted earlier.
It was a bigger cave, though not much higher than the one he was hiding in. There were torches on the wall, and worn chalk drawings that he could now see with more detail if he took the time. His eye was drawn to the rug in the middle of the room. It was quite enormous, and at least twelve manlizards were sitting on it in a kneeled position. Their attention was drawn to an altar in front of the rug, which was spattered with blood, both liquid and dried. There stood a very old lizard, his eyes closed, and his hands on something that Cole couldn’t see in his quick glance. What he did see was that there were four other exits out of the big room. Then he turned his attention away again.

Behind him, the lizardmen started to chant, in their guttural voices.

Subject: books

Bezmir, it totally depends on what you want to do with them. If you want to just play in 3.5 games, the PHB is all you need. You could go with the DMG as well, since it is really helpful in choosing magical items, and it has some prestige classes in it that you might enjoy. But you really only need the PHB as a player, as long as your DM knows what he's doing.

If you're looking to run an adventure, I'd recommend buying the DMG and the Monster Manual. You don't need any other books than those three to have a great time and create countless adventures.

For 2nd edition, the same things apply, but you don't need the DMG at all as a player. Again, as a DM you'll need all three.

All other books can be a lot of fun, but buying them is a big step if you don't have any experience using the first three. What I mean with that is this: many of these books (in my opinion) hold a few cool new additions to the game, but they are not necessary to enjoy yourself. Things like class-specific books, tomes of magic, PHB2 or campaign books are all extra, and not all of them are worth buying. Take a good look inside (if you can) before purchasing those.

Hope that's helpful.

Subject: lizards talking

The two manlizards were too busy conversing that they didn't hear the distant incantations that would reveal their language to Tamuril. When she approached again, they were still standing in the same spot, oblivious to their presence, talking away, but now she could understand them.

"I'm telling you Cghitsaru, those fish were planning something when I swam by. It gets harder to catch them every time."

"I know. Perhaps Gubulondil is upset with us somehow?"

"It is quite possible. But it's only been a few days since we sacrificed the sheep to please him. We should pray harder."

"You are most right. Did you hear about Zjechrey, by the way? He hit his toe really hard against that rock in the kitchen. You know the one I'm talking about, yes? He's getting to old."

"Pff, we should just remove that sharp edge. It has always been in the way. Maybe we should bring it up during the meeting tomorrow?"

"Yeah, that might be a good idea. Get rid of it. How long before the next prayer?"

"Should be a matter of minutes."

"Let's get out of here then. The junk pile is extra smelly today."

"True, though it doesn't smell as bad as you do."

"That's right. And I'm proud of it!"

They both laughed their horrible laughs again, and left the room.

How come, whenever the list is reset, we are not in there, and other sites already have up to 180 votes? To me, that smells. It's like they have written some kind of bot or code that votes with different IP addresses so many times a day. There is no site out there with such dedicated voters. I just don't buy it.

ceilings are about twice the size of a normal man, so let's say about 12 feet max.

Spells for distraction could work, but that would immediately notify the lizards of some kind of presence. Or maybe that's the idea.

1) They carry no weapons or armor

2) Driscoll can hear some walking and more talking in the strange tongue of the lizardfolk.

3) There is no smell coming directly from the basket, but there are all sorts of smells all around in this room.

4) There were 6 manlizards on the beach.

I hope this is helpful. Any more questions: Feel free to ask.

1: Driscoll is hiding behind the 3rd basket, I think. The first being filled with fruits, the second filled with salted fish. The third one you haven't opened yet.

2: The room with the rug is lit pretty brightly, yes.

3: It should've been, but your move silently check was pretty low, and their listen check high.

4: They're about 15 feet away from Driscoll and the opening to the tunnel.

Subject: moving it along

Driscoll volunteered to sneak his way closer to the lizardmen, experienced as he was in the ways of stealth.
Cautiously, he made his way through the narrow crack in the rock that allowed him access to the cave. Without a sound he glided to the right, towards the first basket and crouched behind it. Ever so slowly he pushed up the lid that sheltered its contents. Hidden in the basket lay dried fruits and vegetables of different kinds.
Moving to the next basket he passed an opening in the wall that he hadn’t noticed before. Peeking in, he found it to be a sort of dump for old junk. Old rags and mouldy leather lay there, along with some straw to keep things dry a bit. It smelled like mildew and old fish.
He could also see beyond the two lizardmen now. The portion of the cave he could see was also lit by several torches, and the walls were decorated with worn chalk drawings that he couldn’t make out very well. He noted the opening to another chamber and something on the floor that looked like a rug of some kind. Not daring to stall too long he moved on.

The next basket smelled like fish as well, and when Driscoll opened it, he found it stuffed with salted herring and other kinds of sea creatures the fishermen of the coastal village had caught.

He moved on to the next basket, but though he tried his best not to make a sound, he shifted a loose pebble, and it scratched between his foot and the moist rock floor. The two conversing lizardmen stopped their tongues, and looked at each other in surprise. They peered into the cave, where Driscoll was hiding behind the basket. One of them even walked into the room, and looked about. He didn’t see the scout, apparently, but his attention was caught. The other lizardman also came into the room and said something to his friend, which made them both laugh. But their laughing wasn’t a beautiful sight. The sound resembled a bird throwing up, and their bare teeth displayed their inhuman nature all the more.

They continued their conversation, but were now standing in the middle of the room. They hadn’t noticed either Driscoll or his three friends in the shadows of the tunnel.

(OOC: Ayrn, I can't believe you don't have any ranks in either hide or move silently. Still, you made your hide check. Btw, I've updated the map in the Q/A as well.)
