Subject: more infor

we need more info in order to help you out here:

which operating system do you use?
what kind of disc are they on?
what kind of files are they?

If they are really old PC games and you have a newer version of windows, then you'll need a program to run them on your computer.
If they are roms, then you'll need an emulator to run them.

There are many more possibilities, but we need more info first

Lady Quilanday took Elessarae close to one of the windows opposite the door of the inn. She looked at her younger friend for a while before speaking, the words obviously struggling to come out.

“I don’t know how to tell you this… I just came from Sillarion, where the council is working really hard on controlling this situation. All forces have been ordered to return to their home base. There was a reading by Olian Demanili, one of the elder sages of the Aerie of the High King. Your parents were there….
Afterwards, when people were going home, there was a large attack of twisted forest cats. Your mother was killed in that attack, Elessar. I’m sorry. I have a letter from her general for you here.”

She handed the letter over, and placed a hand on Elessar’s shoulder. Comrade, who had been watching from a distance, came closer now and nudged his nose into Elessar’s arm.
The letter didn’t tell her much that Quilanday hadn’t already told her. Her mother’s funeral was in three days, enough time for her to speed to Sillarion. But it would mean that she would have to abandon her quest and leave the party for a long time. It was a hard choice to make.

updated early, since I didn't think there was much to say or do for you guys anyway. Hope nobody intended to post before update time. You can always post what you wanted to do

Dragon Mistress, Quilanday will take you aside, but for obvious reasons I didn't send you a PM with conversation before you read the update and replied there. You can always chose to ignore the older bladesinger if you don't feel like talking...

sure, post. I didn't want to spoil the fun for you, so post your actions away.

Mind you, they will happen once the information has been given by the thug leader.

They were on their feet fast, but even the bravest or most foolish were unable to catch more than a glimpse of this creature that had slaughtered the entire village while they had been eating breakfast.

Draven and Elessarae were out within a heartbeat, only to find the area deserted. Malius was next, ordering his two ferrets onto the rooftops. The dark-skinned ranger himself climbed onto the inn, where he got a good look of the town, and the scattered remains of its inhabitants. The area seemed too calm, with not a bird disturbing the oppressing absence of movement.
The other members of the party exited The Solanis Paean as well, in time to see Elessar vowing the destruction of this enemy in the name of all good. But the enemy was nowhere to be seen, and after a minute the tension began to evade slightly into awareness. Whatever they had seen, it had left them, or it was hiding particularly well from the heroes’ prying eyes.

It was then that Malius noticed a change in the air. A sound approached his ears, and then the ones on the forest ground heard it too. A horse was coming closer rapidly. Several moments later, they could see it through the trees, baring on its back the Lady Quilanday, whose face was stern.

When she reached them, she did not take any notion of the dead bodies. It was only when she had descended from her steed, and walked up to Elessarae that she realized the picture of this town was wrong. He mouth dropped open, and she glared at the companions in disbelief.

“Wha…” She swallowed the pointless question. She knew the answer. Dragging the heroes with her into the inn, she questioned them about what had happened. During their conversation she seemed not the woman they had come to know. Her stubborn recklessness was gone, or had subsided for the moment, and she kept glancing at Elessar more than she did at the others. When they had finally told her what had happened since they parted she relayed to them that one of the infected trees that her fellow bladesinger had spoken of, was situated very close to this village. She had sent armed forces to take care of other infected trees, but was hoping the adventurers would aid the Sylvari Empire in taking down the last one standing. As she had mentioned in her letter they would be greatly rewarded.

“I suggest you make a plan here, while you’re safe; a plan to find this tree, and to see what you’re going to do once you’ve found it. I have a vial of essence of the Rilma Lotus here for you, but it is a weak and hastily made ointment. The tree will need all of this to heal completely. We have also learned that destroying the tree is not enough. The essence of the Lotus needs to be smeared on it, or it will continue to pollute the grounds it’s rooted in.”

As the companions conversed among each other, she took Elessarae aside, asking her to step away with her for a minute. She had some bad news.

While Llammoth was trying to cool the draconic heat in Percifeer's blood, Pio was taking his chances in negotiating with the thugs. So far, his diplomatic approach had helped them evade a fight. The leader of the robbers squinted his eyes at his last remark though.

"Wait a minute..." he piped out, and pointed at the knight with an accusing finger, "There are seven of us, so seven times five Guain is not thirty...five...." His eyes rolled upward as he counted on his fingers. A good minute later he gave up, and tried to keep a tough posture.

"Alright. Thirty-five Guain, and what we've already got is a good enough deal. Now I want the money first, because I don't trust you!"

He sent one of his men in, who nervously collected the coinage, eyeing the companions as if they would strike out to him at any moment.

"You see, Councilor Velch is an important man. We've heard something was stolen from his offices in the courthouse. Something very expensive, if you get what I mean.
But Virgin Stuart told us last night that he had heard that it was done by a lone rogue, not a member of the guild. He said that such a theft would've been celebrated, but nobody claimed the deed yet. Nobody said anything about it at all, actually. For such a big happening he said it was too quiet. But that's all we know. If you want to hear more, talk to him. You'll find him in the Heart of Darkness, if you manage to get into that joint."

With that the thugs turned on a signal from their leader, and unless stopped, scattered into the sidestreets.

we're missing Drakar and Stryke. both of them have gotten the same PM you guys did, and I haven't heard from them. Sibelius is supposed to enter a new character some time in the near future I hope, but I haven't heard from him either... so for now it's the three of you with the rest as NPCs.

Topic: The Official Red Dragon Inn Name Generator thread
Subject: well

I have some old Dragon magazines somewhere. and I remember in some of them were random name generators: lists to roll with first middle and last part.

I believe they were for dark elves and halflings, perhaps gnomes too, but I'm sure there are lists like that for all races. The question is: do we want to use these?

If you work in parts, you have to consider the fact that not all names are equal in length, so another part of the program should random the number of pieces.

the name generator is a good one. And while we're at it:

a tavern generator, with the name, owners, dishes and prices? We could make it a joint effort to come up with all of those

Topic: Do you use gaming props?
Subject: nice one

You can find some examples of props in the Tips and Tools of the Trade forum.

When I just started playing Adnd, our DM had a habit of puting something on the table we played at before we came in. So one time it would be a sword, another time it would be a key or some other item related to the adventure. It somehow got us in the mood faster.

I used my share of maps. One time I made a map with a secret symbol of an assassin's guild, written in lemon juice. At some point in the game the players were suspects of a crime and they carried that map with them. One of the guards held a fire near that map and the symbol appeared. That didn't work in their favour.
I held a lighter near the map for real, and the symbol appeared on the real map. It then became a big lead on how to find the assassins.

"Huh?"

The leader of the gang turned his attention from the unfortunate female thief to Pio. He looked at the knight with a suspicous glare.

"What are you saying? What kind of information?"

Pio replied: "We have heard a thief from Ormander’s orphanage has stolen something of value from Councilor Velch. If you have heard something of this, please speak up. Excellent information just might find you rewarded."

The thug's face brightened up, and he displayed a smile with gruesomely crooked and brown teeth.

"Ah, Ormander's orphanage. Yes, I've heard of that. Old guy and kids right? Yes, he ran into some trouble with Councilor Velch I heard. Now let me think..."

He turned to one of the other robbers and started whispering in low tones. A moment later he looked over his shoulder with an even wider smile as before.

"We have some information for you, but that reward better be good! We want 50 Guain for what we know!"

just the purses were cut. I was assuming that everybody would have at least some coinage in a small purse, even if it's not on the character sheet. You don't want to dig into your backpack or bag of holding every time you want to pay for a beer or meal, right?

Pio remained cool. A veteran of battles had no need to get worked up over a group of robbers. He took a step forward, his face stern as if addressing a young child.

"Look, you already have a fair share of our money. I suggest you count yourself lucky with what you have in your hand there. Now you'd do best and leave us alone, before you lose what you've earned."

The knight's chest was broad, and his whole posture radiated self confidence. At his side, his bastard sword was prominently present, and it seemed eager to punish those who commited an act against its wielder. Behind him, Pio's companions stood ready to do battle as well. They looked like a fortified mass in the narrow street, and the leader of the band of robbers took a step backwards.

"Perhaps you are right. AND lucky! We have our share and will leave you in..."

It was then that a crossbow bolt shot past him and slammed through an already broken window inches away from Percifeer's face.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to!" piped the young female thief that had wielded it.

Subject: the innkeeper

While Draven and Elessarae were ready to head after the creature, Geim kneeled down next to the fallen innkeeper. The Khord prayed to the allmighty creator to save the good man's life, but the last pulses flowed through the body under the cleric's fingers, and then stopped. The innkeeper was dead.

Though the bladesinger and the human warrior had been fast, there was no sign of the creature they had seen flash by the doorway. Perhaps a closer look would bring more insight in the situation?
Draven walked out into the open. The thick roof of treebranches permiated a diffuse light on the village. In other times it would've made for a romantic, iddylic atmosphere. The Sylvari bodies on the ground however seemed to have materialized from a world of chaos and insane destruction.

For a moment the two newly found companions could hear the thumping of feet on the forest ground. Then an eerie silence settled upon them.

Grugg will be back in about a week, but he lets us know that he probably won't have the time to get this game going right at that time. He's still very interested in it, but it's not possible for him right now to dedicate himself to it.

Eventually, he's hoping to start it up. Maybe a few extra applauds will convince him to hasten his pace?
