Darren, could you describe a bit more about the story or background perhaps. Without revealing too much of what will happen in the dungeon, of course.

In the end, people will need to have a reason why their character is in the dungeon, even if it's a light game, right? And even though it's freeform, can you give us an idea of what the power-level of characters should be?

I think this would help you find some interest.

Good luck!

Happy Birthday man! Have a good one. Tell people at work that they should buy you as many cakes as the days they kept you away from this place!

Upon returning to the Blue Hand headquarters, they were met by a figure they knew well enough. Or at least by reputation.

Gorn. An Azure Blade member and somebody to look up to.

Now Argent wasn't usually impressed easily, but it was good to learn that they had earned the attention of one of the more prestigious members of the guild.

"Wow Argent, don't you look like a whipped dog. Someone steal your beard?"
The man grinned.
"Have a drink and relax.

For a moment he contemplated the thought of just ignoring the man. He was still upset by what they had just experienced. However, he had a dream to fulfill with his brother, and if he didn't use opportunities like this, they would never succeed in opening their own shop.

So, instead of sulking about, he did as the man had proposed; he relaxed, and was immediately glad for it. He had been building up tension in his full frame. He had lost his casual demeanor, his objective attitude. Those were things he should never consciously dismiss.

"Thanks Gorn. Please, tell me, was this all just a test? Or was it a task that needed to be performed anyway?"

A moment later he noticed that the half-orc approached and, in what he had learned was the man's etiquette, stated: "I am Uthgar. You have gained my respect as a warrior."

He faced the warrior. Then slowly nodded.
"Thank you, Uthgar. You are not too bad yourself..." he paused for just a moment, "when you're not getting me cut up by a common enemy." He winked at the half-orc, hoping the man would appreciate the jest and realize he had been forgiven.

He turned back to Gorn.
"I have to agree with Skit here, that I don't think there is much honour in slavery. I am too much of a merchant not to understand the benefits, but there are moral boundaries on making money, don't you agree?"

He was very interested in the man's reaction.

Hey Alvin,

Welcome to the Red Dragon Inn.

If you want to start a game, you should find the Recruitment forum. There are several games looking for players there, and you can take your pick from a multitude of genres.

As for rulebooks: many people don't own them. As long as the DM is willing to help you out, you should be fine. The forum based dnd or other roleplaying games are mostly about story, character and adventure. You need to have a vague notion of the rules, but most of all you need to be able to realize who you are playing and what that character would do in a certain situation. You need limited knowledge of dnd, good communication skills towards your DM, and the rest will come by itself.

I hope you'll find a nice game!

Good luck,

Almerin

Downhouser will try to get the 'ball' to Katie. He doesn't care what it takes: shoving, throwing (especially throwing somebody into the seats around the skating rink), punching etc. He won't care about using his stick either, he'll just grab the puck with his hands and drop it in front of her if that works.

Gerald looked at the hand on his arm and then at the woman. She was staring at him intently. He stared back and yanked his arm free, almost dislocating Katie's arm in the process, and yelled:

"I'll get you that ball!"

Downhouser looked at the woman. He had heard right then. This was what he needed: direct directions.

"I'll get you that ball." he stated.

The reactions to his proposal mainly went over his head. It was like one of those ideas that sticks with you, even though everybody tells you you'd be a lot better off abandoning it. He was contemplating different techniques for shoving the goal into the ice, when a voice penetrated the thick kevlar layer around his brain.

"Downhouser, I need the ball."

He looked up, in wonder a bit, and stared at Katie.

"You need the ball?" he asked.

Labyrinth is great. Grugg knows this. He's just jealous that he cannot compete with Ludo for 'hairiest creature'. Ludo wins every time.

That dungeon is not so scary. Those glowing eyes are just Grugg... who is always lurking about. He's quite friendly once you get to know him.

Welcome to the inn! We hope you'll have a great time here.

And yes... it can be very quiet around here sometimes. But I promise there is a lot more activity in that deep, dark dungeon over there.

Yes, the one with the blood spatters and the glowing eyes.

That's right.

Was this it? I mean, I have no desire to communicate with these people, so I assume we go back to the clubhouse. Argent wants to give his eyes the time to take in any information useful for an attempted rescue mission. Then he heads back out of there asap.

All this time they had risked their lives for these poor folks, and now they were abruptly taken from their hands with a gruff remark about missing ware.

"Next time you can fetch them yourself." he told the man and walked away.

He didn't know if he was going to accept any pay for this mission. It had been a failure in his mind. A quest was supposed to be full of hardship, otherwise it wouldn't be such an endeavor. But to have its climax feel like a whip in the face was too much for the monk to handle. His brother could collect the cash if he so desired. He himself would be spending his time pondering on how to set these people free.

Without much more delay he went to Thiferl and stated: "Let's get out of here before I get the urge to punch somebody."

*shiver*

Time to go for option #2 then... but I'm not going to post right after myself.

I think eventually... don't know how long this game is going to last, but eventually, Gerald would indeed grab the ref, take his equipment and take on the role he always has... that of the law.

Posted. At least it's something. I don't know what to have him do. He sucks on skates. But at least he should be able to do something that includes brutal force.

It was that or slamming the ice so hard that it breaks...

or throwing the goal somewhere into space....

or throwing the goalie somewhere into space....

or hijacking the referee's cap and whistle and making this a Downhouser-fair game...

or....

This was definitely not his kind of game.

It was on ice. That was the biggest reason. When sure footing was nowhere to be found, Downhouser was out of his element. He’d been too occupied with trying to keep standing that he had lost track of what was happening around him. He had only caught glimpses of the game.

He’d seen Virago finish off one of the other players. He knew that was against the rules, but realized also that rules did not fully apply today. It would prove difficult not following a straight path of easy guidelines. Usually he was drawn to crime, and defeating it had become not so much of an instinct as well as an unconscious reflex like blinking or breathing. The rules for punishing the bad and the wicked were simple.
Hockey, however, was a different animal all together.

Gerald had also noted the opponent’s goalie move the goal an inch. If that was permitted, a whole new game opened up to the super cop.

“Ok, guys,” he said when everybody was bunched together on the bench, “we can win this thing. All I need to do is stomp our own goal so deep into the ice that there is no more room for that black, little, flat ball to get in.”

He looked at the others expectantly.

Luke will definitely attempt a repair. But I don't know what he can do when the thing is totally busted. I suppose cars don't go long without a radiator. Would be better to go on foot if that's the case.

Subject: the aftermath

A few seconds, that was all that had passed. But lives had been lost and the mission was in danger yet again. Just when Luke thought they had picked up the right trail again, things went down hill.

Romo was hit.

The car was damaged.

And Brutal yelled 'Clear'.
Clear was the last word Luke would use for the situation they found themselves in. He needed to get things in order again quickly.

"Doc, help me get the sarge out of the car."

He turned to Brutal and McGuinness.
"McGuinness, you and Brutal move those Germans from the road and out of sight."

He wanted to get moving, then realized there was one more person in their team.

"Mrs Hoffstetter, keep your eye out for approaching enemies. If anybody comes near, we act as guards, and shoot them Before anybody gets the chance to speak."

(OOC: we need to get Romo out of the car so Doc can properly attend to him. Then Luke is going to see how damaged the car is (he is supposed to be a specialist). If the car is beyond saving, we should move it out of sight (down the waterfall?) )
