Ormander’s Orphanage
West Gutterfallstreet
Drefast, Drannon

The Orphanage’s owner looked pleasantly surprised as Kastor walked into his residence.

“Kastor my child! Welcome, Khordaldrum explorer, I should say. You haven’t changed a bit. What a great surprise it is, to see you being the first one to heed my calling! Follow me, I’ll get you some tea.”

In Ormander’s office, the now old man started gathering cups for hot water when a young woman’s voice rang heartily through the room. The patron had just enough time to turn on his feet before Percifeer was around his neck. He laughed a deep rumble and patted the girl’s back.

When both Kastor and Percifeer were seated, Ormander returned stirring herbs through a big cauldron with water. A young boy came in and tugged the old man’s tunic. Without taking his gaze off the cauldron he called out beyond the doorway:

“Athur get your butt in here now, I know you are out there! You weren’t very silent in your approach, and you have always had a habit of doing the same mistakes you have made in the past when trying to listen at my office … and I saw you. It didn’t help that you sent a child ahead of you.”

He patted the young boy’s head and winked at him. Then he filled three cups with herbal tea-water, and handed them to the seated ex-orphans. They were sipping the heat when Kastor piped out his question for the third time. Still, he would not get an answer, for a fourth visitor announced his presence.

“I came as soon as I received word, father. Your health is well, I trust.”

“My health is fine, Pio. I’m getting old, but I could still best many other warriors of my age.”

He laughed, and bade the knight to sit down.

“I’m expecting a few more of your fellow orphans.” His face slanted in seriousness. “Once they arrive, I will tell you what you are here for.”

Londelirinen Kingdom
Sylvari village
4th day of the 8th month: Temoth Ore
7:26 pm

Elessarae was tying up the last ends on her journey to this mutilated Sylvari village. Once, little children had played here, lovers had found each other and time had passed gently. Now it had gone on a rampage and caught up with the horrors of the world. But the bladesinger had come, and had caused a stop in its tidings, though she had paid dearly:

Once the goblin was secured, and the mage had helped her burn any possessions touched by the trees foul poison, she had used what was left of Luronya’s fly spell. Going over the trees in the darkening sky, she scouted the area for the horses. One had remained at the village, but the other she found at quite a distance from the village. She brought it back to the mage, and had it secured. Quickly she returned for Gharion.

She would not have found him if it hadn’t been for the cawing of crows that sprouted from between the trees. She descended through a cloud of feathers as the birds burst towards the heavens. When she landed, it was near the torn body of her loyal steed. Noting the wounds on his flank and face, goblins had found him before the crows did. Life had left him long ago.

Alloryen Kingdom
The Exaulted Tower
2nd day of the 8th month: Temoth Ore
5:40 pm

In the highest room of the tallest tower ( ) Malius battled the last of the maggots. It was a wicked creature, that chaotically sprang and dodged and launched itself, sometimes at him, then away from him. This was no enemy that could be calculated and easily defeated through tactics.

The dark skinned ranger had already tipped his blade in the creature’s hide, but a real wound had not been dealt. Then, from the stairs, came the calling of a well known voice. Geim was coming.

Again Malius awaited the maggot’s manoeuvres, judging the right time to block and stab. He thrust his blade up, and sliced a hole in one of the creature’s wings. It did not seem to feel it, but flung itself upon him.
The long, almost metallic teeth took a bite from his shoulder, that same shoulder, only this time right beside the neck. He could feel it sucking away his life again, and pried it from his body with all the strength and disgust he possessed.

The footsteps came closer, not one pair of boots, but two; Geim was not alone.

In a wisp of anger, Malius wildly hacked at the maggot as it regained its composure. He smacked it full in the head, and yellow-green puss surfaced from its skin.
Then Geim and Thondrek arrived. The two Khords didn’t waste much time. While Malius pressed the thing backwards, Thondrek threw his torch at the thing, and right after it came a handful of stones that smouldered and burned the maggot’s hide. It squirmed on the floor and yelled out in pain. Then it sprang up and dove at Malius. The ranger and Geimiedefher hacked at it simultaneous, and it fell limb before ever closing its yaw on the warrior.

***********************

At the bottom of the tower, Loda was tapped on her shoulder by the bladesinger. Lady Quilanday looked down at the druid and nodded towards the tower.

“Do you want to accompany me into the tower? I’m going to see if the sages found anything of interest before they were murdered. There must be at least something we can find here that will help us destroy this plague!”

It was clear that the woman was not eager to go alone.

It's not clear to me yet when Vesper is going to leave. I certainly hope he'll be able to finish at least this conversation with Draven. After that keeping her alive is simple.

Wow, haven't seen that movie in a long time. Yes, it was definately fun.

I saw Naussica, and the valley of the wind recently. It's an older Gibli production (also known for Spirited Away and Howl's Moving Castle). I thought it was very nice. I'm usually not a anime fan, but these guys always know how to amaze you. And the music is always a strange mix of symphonic score and elevator music. But somehow it works great.

The story in this movie is less important than in the other ones I named, but the scenery is brilliant, I think. If you've seen and liked Spritited and Howl, check it out!

In my last update I wrote: "(OOC: Brianna, I will update soon what Geim finds in the tower.)"

I didn't assume that you would all be posting so much (although I'm very very happy that you did). I also wrote in that post that you all burned the two bears first, and that took a lot of time. In that time Malius has had time to go through the tower a bit.

You can see that it was a fight by several indications:

1: the maggots are dead and piled up, as if centered around one bipedal being.
2: there is blood on the floor and on the maggots. Clearly they have been nibbling on something recently.
3: their guts have been burned and pierced with a sharp object, such as a blade.

You also find one particular maggot in the pile, after searching, that is not covered in their usual slimey skin. Instead, it has got little stubs that on closer examination are the beginnings of hairs. All maggots have mouths with sharp teeth, but this one's are covered in fresh blood.

Man, I should've included all that in my update. Thanks for asking clarification!

When Geim and Thondrek arrived at the nest, things had changed a bit. Instead of a nest full of Maggots, they found the nest relatively peaceful, if such was ever possible in the twisted horror of this place.

In the midst of the room lay a pile of dead worms, and the remains of a fight. Perhaps Malius had been here, but all trace of the Ranger was gone.

I LOVE that movie... there is no denying it... I think it is great! And Keanu does a good job.

I also liked him in 'the Lake House', which I thought was also nice. Definately worth watching.

We recently saw 'Stardust'. From the trailer I wasn't that enthusiastic, but it offers some very refreshing entertainment. Not directly a kids movie with some of the things that happen.

I must admit to not having seen 'the Polar Express'. It was on TV one evening, and it couldn't grab my attention. Maybe I need to see it from the beginning. Or mabye I should grab some mushrooms first

Stryke, I do require a bit more than three lines. Give us a hint of how Kastor is feeling about coming back, tell us his impressions, etc. Good description and character development give bonus XP in (at least my) forum game. Also, it's why we call it roleplaying, and not ruleplaying

Drefast Courthouse
Stout Galius Square
Drefast, Drannon

Camillian scurried in the shadows of the long hallway. Through stain glass windows, a diffuse light fell over his frail body. The festivities from the room beyond these windows reached him by sound and smell. The varying nobility was spending their money fast this evening, on gambling and drinking under the supervision of their host. They would not notice him while he used their murmur as cover.

In his hand he held the emerald statue of Oriana, depicted as a many faced, scarcely clad, Sylvari woman. It was his price this evening, and it would bring him great profit. The young man, only two years away from being named a child, paced swiftly to the next door, when suddenly a voice called out from the other end of the hallway.

“Stop! You filthy little thief!”

Camillian was used to being caught. Years of experience had taught him to dodge and run, and only look back once many streets had passed.

A ray of white energy sheered over his head, and shards of stone erupted from a nearby wall as the spell hit it. The young thief ran, flung open the next door and turned a corner. He fled over a steep stairway and through another door. He suddenly found himself amongst the wealthy gamblers and guests, who did not seem to take notice of him. He was too insignificant, in his ragged garb.
Quickly, he fought his way through the brocade, silk and suede mass, to an exit on the other side of the room. He slipped under the grasp of a guard, and found himself in the main hall of the courthouse. The double doors leading outside were closed, but a window next to them stood open, and Camillian flung himself through.

Then he was standing on the streets, and a gloved hand grabbed him by the shoulder.

Ormander’s Orphanage
West Gutterfallstreet
Drefast, Drannon

The orphanage looks much like it was when you last saw it. A new coat of paint has been applied and is starting to weather off again already. Nothing has changed. It still rests on the corner of a crossway of allies, far from the heart of the city. From the shadows of garbage cans and pauperized buildings you can feel the eyes of curious children upon you.

Above the door, the silver seal of the orphanage, the Ram of Drannon on the outstretched hand of the god Falloes, shines brightly. It is the most valuable object in four blocks, but you know better than to think it is a miracle that it has not been stolen yet.

Inside, you hear the shouts of combat from the training room. Ormander is standing with his back turned to you, his attention on the running fight. He laughs at a clever move, but suddenly a young girl is at his side. Her cloths look worn, but she has been well cared for.
She whispers something in his ear, and the orphanage’s patron turns towards you. He has grown old. His coppery, wrinkled face lights up when he sees you.

“Ah, welcome, my dear child. You must be weary from your travels. Please follow me next door. I’ll pour you some tea!”

He takes you to a private room that you recognize as his office. Several chairs have been pulled up, as if he is awaiting more visitors. He asks you to get comfortable as he goes off to get some hot water from the fireplace.

(OOC: first come, first goes for now. The first one to post, is the first one there at the orphanage. The rest comes in after him/her)

Yep, it's definately regretable, but Vidar's story-line was going slower and slower. It's a good decision. Too bad... I would've liked to see him kick some Aboleth behind

(didn't know if you realized what you were up against exactly, but there it is. Would've gotten you some FAT xp)

Anyway, I'm not going to find a replacement for Skari or Vidar. We're far enough in the game to know who's involved and who's not. We'll keep the group as it is. Unless somebody speaks up and shows interest.
The less seperate story-lines we have, the better my posts per time will be (hopefully). The seperate lines have lasted way longer than I expected anyway (not that I'm complaining, FAR from that ). I just thought everything would join together sooner.

Well, Skari, good luck with your other games!

Update is in for the main group and for Dragon Mistress. Story XP has been given to Elessar since she has completed a side-quest of some difficulty.

The party has the means to get this kind of XP too, but there is still some information to be found in this tower. You need to get this info in order to get further knowledge about the demonic animals.
Or not, and continue with your own main adventure, but then you're missing out. Either way, it's a decision that needs to be made.

Although I'm very tempted to begin this game, I'm going to wait until I have all 6 characters. Hopefully that'll be this weekend.

I don't want to put a first post up and then have players wait with posting until everybody is ready. That's like having to hold a chocolate in your hand and wait until 40 other people get one. By the time everybody has one, yours has turned to liquid.

So hurry up guys!

Alloryen Kingdom
The Exaulted Tower
2nd day of the 8th month: Temoth Ore
5:30 pm

The Sylvari bladesinger examined Draven from a short distance while the others went over to him. When Thondrek went into the tower to find out what had become of the bear, she moved closer. Catching his eye, persisting should he try to look away, she made it obvious she was watching him, but her gaze was one of concern, not of judgement.

“Please, what happened in there, Black Warrior?”

Then Geim offered a wise advice, and she nodded.

“We will all want to hear your story. Now we should find dry wood, which could prove difficult with this kind of weather.”

They worked together to find a good amount of sticks, twigs and leaves, and put them over the bear that was laying outside. With joined efforts they hauled the beheaded body of the larger demonic animal from within the tower, and put it up against its mate. Then they set the wood to flames.

At first, the fire did not seem to want either of the creatures, and they had to get more wood, as the bears remained untouched and unchanged by the heat. But the temperature rose, and soon the thick hairs started to curl and the leathery skin became black and dry, until it burst, and the flames were free to consume the flesh and goo that lay within.

They were all there, except for Malius. They had not seen him since he passed into the tower through the high window.

(OOC: Brianna, I will update soon what Geim finds in the tower.)

“My Flying Spell will last well over an hour, but I can only cast it on you if you’re standing next to me. I have to touch you in order for it to work on you.”

And so Elessar took her first steps towards the tree, with the goblin as a shield. She was expecting some form of attack, and feared the goblin was not telling her everything.

Then they came close enough to see the red spotted ground before their toes. Elessar took to the air, holding the bound goblin by the rope. The creature was calm, and stepped forward without hesitation. It cursed under its breath, though the swearwords were directed at Elessarae and the way she treated him.

Upon reaching the first branches, the goblin started watching the acorns ready to fall down. He stayed clear out of the way of the splashes, but at one point wasn’t fast enough. A soft thud sounded as an acorn burst on the green, bald head.

“Demon’s Grizzly Joy!!! Free my hands so I can wipe myself clean, you stinking blade-syl!”

Elessar herself had trouble dodging the gross grenades. She had stained her cloths with the blood coloured, sticky substance, but it caused her no other harm. She safely reached the trees trunk and rubbed the ointment over its bark, as Luronya had instructed her.

Nothing happened. No drastic change occurred, but after a short period of time, the bladesinger realized that the acorns were no longer falling. And the fluorescent aura of disease slowly ebbed away from the tree, though it was more a feeling than a physical change. As the heavens turned pink in oncoming night, the tree refound the urge to grow healthy again. It would still take a lot of fighting before it was healed completely.

But Elessarae’s part in that was over.

Vorrioch's charry has been put up. I ruled that once you are a soldier, you still have to pay for citizenship. I'm sure Drannese burocracy would want it that way. They probably deduct it from your payment or something.
