Nice Art! I'm glad we can still recognize the characters, but with a whole new and personal style.

But more details mean more work, so the question is, are you confident you can keep up the once a week pace? Or are we going for something more slow?

Anyway, awesome news.

Not a problem, Gyviar. I'm happy with the post. Gives me something to work with.

I can say that you've gotten about all the information that you're going to get from the children and Kretarund. Update was possible this time without everybody being involved. I can't go on like this though. We need posts from all the players next time.

Subject: Continuing

The room behind the bar was quite dark, with only a few lanterns spreading long shadows against the walls. In the low light, Niaou’li tended the wounded with her natural magic. She tapped life-force from the earth, cleansed with the tranquillity of the air, and soothed wounds with the shadows gathered.
Slowly, the adult Khords started waking, but they returned to consciousness in a dreamstate, and they would need some rest before they would be of any help.

Meanwhile, Gyviar was questioning the children, who were awake. Upon hearing his words, they crept closer into the comforting embrace of their parents, and turned their heads away from the ranger. Gyviar looked up at the parents, asking for assistance. They tried to ease their children, for they understood why information was vital. But the children all refused to speak of what horror had befallen them. All, except one, who was slightly older than the others. He spoke, after Gyviar insisted for a third time, with trembling voice:

“We were playing Stone the Rabbit at the edge of the mushroom forest… when the party was going on. But Lokutard was cheating all the time, so we switched to Toads and Hammer. You know, where one kid is the Hammer, and the others have to hide… We went deeper into the forest, because there are better hiding places there. I was hiding from Gevalda when I was snatched from the ground by this… this… creature… and he… he took me…”

His words were interrupted by a series of snickers as he relived the terrors that had befallen him. After a few minutes he went on.

“He brought me to this giant mushroom and climbed up it. There he put me against it and I stuck there. I … I couldn’t breathe well… it stank so hard. When I woke up I was back here.”

If asked, he can describe the creature that captured him as an Ankheg, but certainly not the giant one that you encountered earlier.

While Gyviar was questioning the children, Niaou’li had gone to the entrance of the Spores, where Kretarund and his bride were still sitting. The groom was up, and looked healthier than he had in quite some time. He too, confirmed that it were Ankheg that had attacked his search party. He recalled how they had spotted one of the Ankheg spying on them in the mushroom fields. Thagovan had told them to be weary of it, and not provoke it. They had been most cautious, and slowly edged past it. But a few minutes later, they were facing another one, now in front of them. It was dragging one of the Khordaldrum children over the path. Then the attack had begun. The ankheg had come in waves, working together in distracting the Khords, then snatching one from their midst from another direction. It had been hell. Thagovan had run forward, where Kretarund lost track of him. Moments later, he had one of the monsters on top of him. Just when he thought he was going to die, Thagovan had scared the creature away, a child in his arms. With his last strength, they had made it back to the Spores.

Just then it was as if history was repeating itself. From the edge of the forest, a lone Khord came walking slowly. He was carrying a child in his arms. It was Thagovan, and according to the whispers that went up as more Khords spotted him, he was more bloody and bruised than he had before. The child was barely living, and covered in sand and dirt from head to toe.

“I need some real warriors.” Thagovan spat under his breath. “We need to go back and slay those beasts. I need some people who know how to wield a sword. I lost ten men out there because they had never seen battle before! If there is nobody, I’ll go back by myself.”

Planescape is great. I wish it wasn't so extensive though, because that's what makes it hard to run a game there. There are so many possibilities. I've looked through some of the modules, and they're quite complex as well. Would be great to run a game there one day.

Oh yeah... and welcome!

I've updated the game. I don't know what happened to Dragonblood. Does anybody? I included Odin in this post but I hope he'll be able to pick up soon.

In any case, I think I'll be asking around for somebody to join your group. You need an extra pair of hands and I don't really like NPCing a character.

We'll see what happens. You're all facing a decision now. Good luck!

Subject: End of battle

The ankheg that had spewed acid all over them was desperate. Its inner conflict was clear even without the capability to display expression. But while it should’ve ran, it stayed to attack. Bohen was now quite the easy target, and wouldn’t be able to resist being dragged back into the tunnel.

But the ankheg was wrong. Bohen was still surrounded by his companions, and they would not let him be dragged off anywhere. Odin stepped in, before the monster could make a move, and jabbed Fox tooth through the creature’s mouth. It took a few steps sideways and then back, balancing back and forth as if it was doing a twisted theatre dance routine. Odin struck again, and the monster fell down, twitching and spasming, its legs curling inwards like a dying spider.

Bohen was saved, but the same could not be said about the two guards. The fourth ankheg had finally got a good grip on one of the brothers, and was going to make a run for it.
The ranger should’ve moved away from the battle, to be properly healed, but he would not have it. Raising his crossbow, he aimed for the monster, and pulled the trigger.
All three bolts struck home, and the creature was flung into the far end of the wall from the pain and impact. Still, it wouldn’t let go off the guard.

Ilde had aimed for the ankheg that was attacking Bohen. Now she found herself changing targets and let her arrow fly in the direction of the final monster. For the second time that day, her arrow struck home. And for the second time that day, she was the one that struck the final blow, for the ankheg sank through its knees and went limp. Its mandibles opened and the guard they had been holding tumbled to the floor. His brother was on him in no time, but was pushed away by a bloody hand.
“I’m alright, Horice. I can stand on my own.”
“Alright? Lortrac, you’re bleeding all over!”
“Pff, I’ll live.” Came the stoic reply. And that was end of the discussion.

Meanwhile, Rerra had gone over to Bohen and placed her hands on his wounds. She prayed strongly, willing herself into a connection with her God. The wounds closed, and Bohen felt revived instantly.
(Used two Cure Moderate Wounds from your spell list, Vanadia)

They had all lived through a very difficult battle, and were now facing a choice. Go back, or continue down the tunnel. Also, they had been joined by a newcomer, who had felled two of the monsters with her arrows. She was a mighty companion to have indeed, but where had she come from?

Topic: New Spores of Itanlok ~ 1 ~ A Short Adventure in Audalis
Subject: back to the Spores

With the battle over, and new information gathered, it was time to return to the Spores of Itanlok, where Berodin sent his hippogriffs. Their quest had been to find the missing children, and so far they had found two, attached to the giant stinkhorn they now knew as Phallaceus. They could only hope that going back would give them some more information.

The way back to the Spores wasn’t so hard to find. Gyviar proved more than capable of finding his way around the mushroom forest and soon they found that the opening into the tavern was in sight. But there was something going on at the entrance to the Spores. They saw torches, and it appeared that a large amount of people were grouping around something.

Coming closer, they heard feverish talking, yelling and discussions. One Khord noted them and grabbed Berodin by the shoulders.
“What insanity befalls us! First we lost the children, now we have monsters roaming our nation!! You won’t believe what’s happening.”
The young man ran back towards the group, where they saw him grabbing on to more people in wild panic. It seemed he was not the only one who was losing his composure.

From an old Khord they learned what had passed while they were gone. Apparently Thagovan, the warrior who had divided them into groups to search the mushroom forest had come back after a little while, covered in bruises and carrying a small child in his arms. He only brought back Kretarund, the groom, who was so wounded and broken that they didn’t even dare carry him back into the tavern. The others from their search party had been lost to the darkness. Thagovan himself had been fluttered, and spoke of large insects attacking them. He had rescued the child from the clutches of one of these insects, and only barely managed to save the groom from certain death. The warrior had given the child to its mother and immediately headed back into the forest, taking with him a larger group of Khords to find more of them. They had taken weapons this time.
Not long after Thagovan had left again, they had heard terrifying screams coming from the forest. Kretarund regained consciousness to that sound and sprouted words of horrific insects with large mandibles who sprang from mushrooms and spat acid. Just when the crowd had been most caught up in his raving tale, three tainted horses with wings and eagle-heads came down from the heavens and reaped more havoc. Kretarund had fallen to the ground in fear, people had trampled each other to get away from these monsters, and all had known that this was the moment hell had opened its gate and now demons were running the mountainside.

But it had turned out these creatures came to bring back two children and two unconscious Khordaldrum men. They had taken these four into the Spores tavern, and as it was said, the strange horses disappeared into thin air.
Many rumours were running among the Khords, one crazy theory after another. They decided not to give in to the chaos, and instead headed down into the hole that was the Spores of Itanlok tavern.

They found the four Khords in a small storage room behind the bar. The two children were awake, and had been joined by the one Thagovan had rescued. The small room was crowded with parents and people who meant well but could do nothing but provide words of comfort. The two adult Khords had been positioned on a small table, and were just barely breathing.

(OOC: Not much to update besides this. I need some intentions in order to know what you guys want with these Khords/kids. In case of interaction I urge you all to post early in the week so I have time to react.

Gyviar made his Knowledge check and came up with the following information:
Ankheg is a burrowing monster with a taste for fresh meat. It burrows with legs and mandibles. A burrowing Ankheg usually doesn’t make a usable tunnel, but can construct one. Clusters of Ankheg can share the same territory but do not cooperate. The acid spit of the Ankheg is only used when desperate or frustrated. )

Subject: alright

Sounds like a plan. But though I'm quite pleased with this Q/A discussion I would be even more pleased if everybody could squeeze a small post in before Saturday. Otherwise I feel like I'm writing to myself.

Could just be your intentions to go back to the Spores Inn, how to get back to the Spores Inn and how to deal with the (un)conscious Khords.
OR it could be a bit more interaction. So far, Niaou'li and Gyviar have talked a bit, but I think there is more to this interaction. At least, there might be more to it. There is the fact that Niaou'li suddenly sprouted leafs on her hair. Baldorf has been doing some crazy stuff with clouds and the likes. If you guys want, there is plenty of stuff to converse about while moving to the Spores.

Again: not necessary, but it gives flavour to the game and depth to your character.

Subject: yes

To be honest with you, I have considered a game on Pandora. I'm not part of the great big Avatar hype, and lately James Cameron has struck me like a walking personification of the term 'ego'. Still, the world was beautiful, and I'd like to try my hand at something a little more science fiction than pure Sword and Sorcery.

If I would run a game, it would be a while though before it started. And it most likely wouldn't be running with only human characters, would take place after the film's story was done and focused on exploring more of what Pandora has to offer, or what it could offer in my imagination.

The situation as I see it now: Humans are back on Pandora, this time with better intentions.
The story: there is another tribe of Pandora natives (Na'vi or otherwise), who have captured a group of Na'vi hunters and now use them as slaves.
You could play Humans, Humans in Avatar form or Na'vi.
The goal is to go and rescue the Na'vi hunters.

Anyway, this is all hypothetical, since I'm not starting a game as of yet. But you are free to grab the idea and run with it.

It's quite simple:
1 ) Take an avatar of normal size.
2 ) Take the image you'd like to suggest and paste it over the old one.
3 ) Scale and crop until it fits as good as it comes.
4 ) Now you have a new avatar ready for submission.

Topic: New Spores of Itanlok ~ 1 ~ A Short Adventure in Audalis
Subject: answers

While Gyviar and Niaou’li got more acquainted, Berodin moved carefully over to where the giant Stinkhorn was resting atop the defeated Ankheg.

"Mighty mushroom," he addressed the fungus. "By what name shall I address you?"

The stinkhorn regarded the area for a moment, trying to focus on where the question came from. Then he noted the cleric standing at the base of his newfound throne and smiled down from above.

“You can call me Phallaceus, Grandfather of the Stinkhorn family, King and herder of Whitestems. Any of those. What can I do for you, sturdy one?”

"Good Phallaceus," began Berodin. "I give you thanks for your assistance in this battle. May your children grow large caps and deep roots."

“Wide roots,” the big stinkhorn told him. “Our roots grow wide, not deep.”

"I was wondering if you might lend us a bit more assistance in this dire time? I seek some bits of knowledge which you may have. First, what is the nature of the black goo which once surrounded you and your island?"

“Black goo? You must be talking about my slime secretion. It’s not very polite to talk about it, but I suppose a young fellow like yourself should learn the ways of our kind. The ‘goo’, as you put it, is my way of spreading my spores. Young mushrooms may sprout among my mycelium, or roots as you would say, but I tend to aim my influence at a wider area. The slime on my hood attracts insects and other creatures that walk this forest. They spread my spores to places I cannot reach.”
He paused, then continued: “Places I could not reach until I was touched by Kith-Jora. Now I can go wherever I please. And thanks to her…” he pointed at Niaou’li, who was still on the boulder in the depleted black lake of goo, “… thanks to her I finally got my revenge on this creature that was annoying my roots for several days.”

"I see. And how did it come to pass that some of our brethren were recently affixed to your stalk?"

“It’s the Ankheg. There used to be a few of them in the forest, but recently their numbers increased, like they were drawn here somehow. They left me alone usually, except for the occasional nibble on my mycelium. But yesterday they started to crawl over my stem and brought their Khordaldrum victims here. I could do nothing but hold on to them until they would be taken away.”

"Hmmm. Interesting... And this large stony hand that we witnessed plucking one of our own from your stalk, do you know anything about it, from whence it came, and where it did go?"

“I don’t know much of the hand of stone. It came down not long after the first of your kind had been stuck to my body. Every now and then it would come back to take another one. Where it comes from, I do not know.”

"Thank you, good friend! May your family increase in abundance."

“It will. If you ever need my help, don’t be afraid to ask. Send my regards to your Kith-Jora over there. I appreciate my freedom.”

During their conversation, many small, white mushrooms had been popping up around the King of Whitestems. Slowly, the Ankheg was disappearing; fading into the rest of the mushroom forest. Soon, it would look like another boulder covered in fungi.

Topic: New Spores of Itanlok ~ 2 ~ A Short Adventure in Audalis
Subject: Best I could do now

Odin had dropped his crossbow and was now speeding for Foxtooth. His hand found the trusted rapier and stabbed it at the monster before him. Although the jab had been a hasty one, years of experience guided it into the insect’s neck and struck a weak spot. The creature shrieked and pranced like a wild horse.

Bohen noticed Odin’s success and decided it was best to take the monsters down one by one. Striking at the already crippled Ankheg before Odin seemed a good idea. He stepped behind the creature and took aim. Rapidly he fired three bolts from his crossbow, of which two struck home. The monster twitched heavily and then collapsed on the floor.

Ilde knew the three Ankheg before them would still make a formidable force of destruction, and she would not let that knowledge go to waste. She strummed her bow, which resonated quite heavily in the dark tunnel. On the tempo of the thrums she sprouted a verse that lifted the spirits of those who heard it. They felt as if the fear they had felt for these monstrosities, however small of suppressed it might have been, faded from their shoulders.

Rerra Stoneheart had been ready to cast a spell that would put Kharox’s blessing upon her allies. But she herself felt more courageous after hearing the newcomer’s words. She took a few steps forward and put her hands on Odin’s back and said a quick power prayer. Through her hand, she felt the energy of the rocks around her strengthen the old Khord. His wounds closed, and he felt revived, almost better than before.
(Changed your action since the Bless bonus is the same as the Inspire Courage one, and they don’t stack. Hope you don’t mind.)

The two brothers were too occupied with freeing one of them to notice what else was happening on the battlefield. The Ankheg that had snatched one of them in its mandibles was slowly backing away from the fight, and they had no success whatsoever in breaking its hold. Even thought they fought bravely and with a defiance one shouldn’t have given them on first sight, it was all in vain.

The other two Ankheg continued their attack on the adventurers, chosing Bohen as their target since he was most isolated in the fight. Cornered as he was between the wall and the fallen body of their own kin, they had an easier time snapping their mandibles on him. And they snapped hard. Both let their mandibles snap around him and squeezed hard. The first attack ripped his skin and ached his flesh, but the second creature bit down and dented his armor. Pain was washing over him in strong waves, and he could feel the warm, clammy flow of blood spreading from his wounds. He was starting to feel lightheaded.
What was worse, the second Ankheg was starting to drag him down the tunnel, away from the fight.

But Odin wouldn’t have any of it. Bohen had stepped up for him, and he would gladly return the favour. With a few quick steps he was near one of the monsters and let Foxtooth taste the monster’s blood. The blade gladly took the opportunity.
Bohen himself couldn’t do much more but shoot his bolts. He couldn’t reach his equipment, and needed to escape the hold of this monstrous insect before the encounter would become a fatal one. He squeezed the trigger on his crossbow in rapid succession, aiming straight into the monster’s face, only a few inches away. He couldn’t have missed even if he tried to, and all three bolts struck hard. The monster staggered with pain, but didn’t let go.

Ilde had finished her verse, and had lifted her bow. An arrow quick in hand, she peered over its tip, deciding which target to choose. She noted Bohen’s face turning paler by the second, and released her ammunition. The shot hit home, and Bohen suddenly faced an Ankheg with a new spike in its head, with feathers on the end for better aerodynamics. The creature sank through its knees and bludgeoned to the floor. The bard choose the other Ankheg that had attacked Bohen as her second target, but the shot was a hasty one, and missed all precision.

Rerra too had noted Bohen’s dire situation. After the monster had fallen, the ranger had fallen down and was having difficulty standing up. His wounds needed attending, and fast. But there was another one of those insects in the way, which Odin was fighting already. She drew her warhammer and with a soft prayer let it land on the monster’s hide. It didn’t do much.

Who wasn’t having any luck either was the guard caught in the fourth Ankheg’s hold. He was trying desperately to escape. His brother was now heaving at the creature with his blade, and was hitting it square in the torso. The creature didn’t even seem to react. Its focus lay on taking the one brother away through the tunnel, and it would not be distracted.

The Ankheg facing Odin and Rerra was having more difficulty not being distracted. He had aimed for taking Bohen away, but now had a rapier and a warhammer striking at its life. Angry and confused, it did what it always did when in danger. It spewed the contents from its stomach at its enemies. Odin and Rerra both caught a good portion of it. The acidic sludge hit Odin in the face, and started burning at his skin instantly. Rerra caught some on her arm, but knew to evade most of the slime.

This battle proved to be a lengthy one indeed.

(OOC: two rounds have passed again. Tell me your intentions. Bohen is badly hurt, really badly. Odin and Rerra will definitely survive the blast of acid for now, but Odin was hit pretty hard. Let's see if we can all get a post up within a week? )
