Subject: the bracelet

the bracelet is something uncommon for orphans to wear. Some orphans have one made once they leave the orphanage, as a reminder of their origins.

You can have one made if you chose to, though perhaps it's better if you do not wear it out in public too much, seeing the current suspicion.

The police... actually I don't know, and I don't think it states a name in the campaign setting. As of now, you have no idea who is investigating the situation, or IF it is being investigated.

All this you will have to find out. All Ormader knows is that they are being accused, so conclusions have probably already been taken.

it appears there were three bears to begin with. The wizards of the tower already dealt with one, you guys dealt with the other two, but only burnt the ones you had killed.

If you want to burn these (bear and maggots), you are free to do so. Btw, these maggots are normal ones, not the oversized crazy type, but you never know what will happen.

Ormander’s Orphanage
West Gutterfallstreet
Drefast, Drannon

After a while of conversing amongst each other in Ormander’s office, the old man set down his cup of tea and stood up slowly, the effort putting his face in suppressed pain.

“Alright, I think it is time I tell you all why I have called for you, Children. I was expecting more of you, but you seem to be the only ones that came.”

He straightened his back and grunted.

“I am getting old, too old to deal with all the problems of this orphanage. I’ve raised it from a low dust-hole to a good environment for children. I have had to fight for some of the privileges that we now perceive. Nowadays I only seem to be able to do battle with words.”

He paused for a moment, nodding his head in regretful mesmerization. Looking at the kettle with boiling water, he continued.

“But something has come up in which I stand powerless. The orphanage has been accused of stealing from the Drefast Courthouse. An emerald statue, from the vault of Councillor Eordan Velch is missing, a thief was pursuited, and lost a leather band with a silver coin. On that coin was the symbol of our Orphanage: the outstretched hand of Falloes revealing the Ram of Drannon.”

He turned to look at them all.

“Normally we are left alone, but it is unwise to steal from one close to the Golden Throne. Nobody in this orphanage has committed this act. We have done in days past what was necessary to survive, but theft is something I do not promote any longer.”

The old man’s face was turning reddish in a mix of anger and dismay.

“This was a set-up, and I have called you to find out who was responsible for this. Please do this in my stead, for I have not the strength to right this myself.”

Subject: Last week at the tower

Londelirinen Kingdom
Sylvari village
6th day of the 8th month: Temoth Ore
7:26 pm

Morya proved a fine horse, but not as special as Gharion had been. She took the terrain with power, but it was hard here at the borders of the Chakran Mountains. The forest sloped up and down, grew thin at times, wilder a moment later. The ground was mushy, saturated with water from the nearby river. It was impossible to keep the black mare at high speed and not wear her out.

In the evening of the same day she arrived at the bank of the Duin Shee Dalnya, the River of the Fairy Footprints. The story of this river’s naming was one Elessarae could not recall, but she had heard of the reputation of these waters. It appeared a calm river, looking shallow and undeep. But it was false to believe so.

The next crossing was a few miles westward, and the bladesinger followed the path along the river. She crossed the bridge over the river when the moon had already begun to rise, and it was then that she noted a glitter across the water. Comrade had noticed it as well, and he stepped closer in curiosity.

Suddenly three silver glowing orbs sprang from the surface, like inverted drops of rain reflecting the light of the moon a dozen times stronger. They were fairies of the river, and they showed a remarkable interest in Comrade’s skin, light as it was in the moon's glow.

Alloryen Kingdom
The Exaulted Tower
2nd day of the 8th month: Temoth Ore
5:45 pm

Lady Quilanday and Loda moved into the tower. Gothard followed a few feet behind them. They found what had already been described to them earlier that day: a devastation that left little to search.

The Sylvari bladesinger took the flask of ale from Loda now, and took a big draught from its contents in a very un-Sylvari way.

“Good stuff.” She mumbled as she handed it back. Then she went forward with her search.

Apparently she had a good idea of what she was looking for. She explained again that she was here because she hoped the sages of this tower would be able to tell her something more about these strange creatures that attacked Sylvari all over the empire.

Floor after floor they crossed, but finally the lady stopped in a room with overturned book-shelves. A dead demonic bear lay on top of a series of closets that had hosted a part of the tower’s library. Its hide was burnt, and a massive hole in its flank displayed its organs, maggots already feasting upon them. Strange growths, similar to those on the badger of Birch-Root, sprouted from its body.
The wall of this room was covered in drawings and sketches. They displayed maps with symbols on them, or strange white willows and creatures like the bear and the badger; twisted in a horribly unnatural form.

“There must be something here that can help us.” Quilanday whispered.

*********************

Up in the tower, Malius was healed by Geimiedefher, who kept a suspicious eye on the ranger. Not that he did not trust Malius, but the warrior had been in direct contact with infected creatures. Twice in one day.

The cleric was running out of powerful healing spells rapidly. Still, Malius’ wounds were not that serious, except one on his leg. It looked like the tissue had been sucked out from under the skin through that opening, but after a few prayers to Kharox, the leg miraculously reformed into its old state.

But Geim was still not satisfied. If he could, he would’ve used a divine spell on the ranger that would cure any disease that could be rampaging in Malius’ body now. But he had not prayed for that spell this morning, and he could not conjure it up spontaneously, as he could healing spells. That night, he would be keeping an eye on the dark skinned Syl.

************

At the bottom of the tower, another interesting development occurred. The tower was secured, but many questions remained. Alyssia was determined to learn more, if not about the tower, then from this dark soul before her.
Draven had eluded her enough. It was time for them to share, and draw closer to each other, for that was the only way to his salvation, so she believed. And salvation he needed, that much was obvious.

As the sun began to sink behind the trees, a question arose for all of them. Where were they going to stay the night? Would they remain in the tower, or continue their journey until night had fully claimed the forest?

(OOC: I suggest you all read each other’s part here. I want you guys to find whatever useful information there is, so that next time, I know where to take you. We’ve spent enough time in this tower, I believe. If anybody wants to search whatever part of the tower, let me know.)

I just watched the trailer for the Dragon Lance Movie, and I can't remember the last time I was this disappointed!

When I first heard they were going to make a movie from the novels, I was thrilled.

When I heard it was going to be an animated movie, I was still hopefull.

After seeing this trailer, I don't even think I'm going to bother watching it. Even though this is not the final trailer, I don't believe it can get any better....

Grugg realized what we already feared: he doesn't have enough time to play in this game.

Although that is a sad thing, I believe it's important that he discovered this in an early stage of the game.

This means that we're all set, and that I can take you guys to the beginning of the actual adventure. I do hope for a few IC roleplay posts as a reaction to introductions.

not accepting the fact that another horse is taking Gharion's place, or perhaps not approving of not being your steed himself, or just generally pissed off with puberty? either of those, for he cannot talk...
There is nothing wrong with the horse they give you.

No clerics in the Flower Castle of high enough level to charge your wand... besides, I don't think there is such a thing as wand-recharging. Isn't that impossible according to DMG? :-/

Ormander’s Orphanage
West Gutterfallstreet
Drefast, Drannon

Since nobody denied the old man showing his pride of the building he maintained, he got up and nodded.

“Well then, let’s go.”

He placed an arm over Kastor’s shoulder, and took him out of the office like a protective guardian. Looking around if the others followed, Ormander began his tour.
A few additions had been made to the building. New colours of paint were applied to certain rooms, most likely to the flavour of the orphans residing there. Paint had been a luxury most of them had not seen inside the orphanage during their own time there.

There was a new practice area, where children were taught the ways of the sword or the path of the arrow. Upstairs the rooms were still cramped with bunk beds and the chests with personal belongings.
One of these rooms had been cleared and now hosted a silent area for studying or meditation. A very small cabinet with books lined the walls, which were otherwise adorned with big sheets of leather or parchment displaying a mix of arcane marks and fighting disciplines.
The cramped room next to it was still devoted to Falloes, and they could see three children of varying age in deep prayer to the God of ones in need.

In the garden awaited a most stunning surprise. It had been Ormander’s dream for many years to make the garden more than a dry piece of land, but what they saw was more than they had imagined. A green lawn with trimmed hedges stretched before them, and at the end of the garden stood a small shed with a cow, a goat and a few rabbits and chickens.

When they were being lead through the labyrinth of corridors and chambers inside the building, they perceived a knocking. Ormander hastened his pace and rounded a corner. They were back at his office, and in front of the patron’s office stood a man in breastplate armor, road hardened and firmly built.

“Alexandro?” Ormander called out. “Good to see you’ve arrived as well. I was just showing your brothers and sister around the house.”

actually, there is no need to rush, there is still plenty of time to catch up with the group.

but answers to your questions:

1: She will get a horse, and once she mounts it, Comrade will highly disagree with its presence.

2: Instead of a courier, they will send a falcon to go where ever you want it to fly.

3: As the tower is now in your debt, most of its inhabitants will come if you gather them. Only the highest officials will remain at their own posts. One of them comes down, and gives you a vial of oil. They have mimicked your trick with the two waters, and gathered a minimal amount of Lotus concentrate. Should you encounter more of the sick trees, you can use it on that.
They also let you know that the sages of the Exaulted tower are locating other trees such as the one you healed. But they haven't heard from them in a few days.

4: the Sylvari village was not on the way to your destination, it was to the east and close to the chakran mountains, where you need to travel north.

5: The next safe town on your way north would probably be Hith Elee, in the Alloryen Kingdom. It will cost you two days of long riding to get there.

Ormander seemed glad for a diversion from his worries.

"Yes, they are doing well, though I'm sure they would do better if they heard some of the adventures you guys have been through."

He glanced at all of them and smiled. This was a familiar feeling to the old man: being in this office with children that had grown. It was not unlike the times that he would tell a group of orphans that soon it was time to leave their childhood behind to find a living of their own. Only this was that situation reversed.

"Do you guys remember Goddfrey Morman? He finally left the orphanage last month, and has now taken over the bakery at ..."

His question started a digging into the shared memories they had. There were many; some embarrassing, some glorious, but they always reminded them of the compassion and familiarity of living in the orphanage.

"So, while we wait for the others, shall I show you around the house? Things have probably changed a bit since you were last here."

not giving more freedom. I stated that of magical items, only one can be a weapon OR a piece of armor. You can choose not to pick a weapon or armor, and pick something else entirely. And yes, I'll change the item for you.

Of all characters, only Grugg did not read that well. So, Grugg, you have to change one of your items :S

Also, I believe Stryke only picked one magical item... or maybe I'm misreading now?

And I need a description how Ayrn and Grugg found/gained their magical items.

wow, that's it I think...
