Topic: The Chakran Portal - an Adventure in Audalis
Subject: oh my, what is going on now?

Alloryen Kingdom
Hith Elee
6th day of the 8th month: Temoth Ore
10:26 am

Not many words had been spoken between them after Elessarae’s explanation of what was happening to the Sylvari Empire, when the innkeeper returned. His face was white, and he was trembling from head to toe. An awkward step later he had entered the inn, and stared at them with his mouth open. A long drip of red spittle fell from his lips onto the floor, followed by a long raspy gasp from his throat. He stretched a hand out to them, and fell face forward onto the wooden floor boards.

Now the companions got a clear view of his back; shirt raked and flesh ripped. Through the open door they could see something flashing by; something green and scaly, with a long tail. It went too fast to see clearly, even evading the Sylvari eyes in the party.
Looking out the other windows of the establishment, the adventurers could see through the trees, where the other buildings of the town stood. The paths between them were filled with the villagers of Hith Elee, all of them as dead as the innkeeper. Something had ravaged the area while they had acquainted each other and discussed the problem at hand.

Subject: perhaps

perhaps I'll just skip this edition entirely. I was thinking about taking a look at the phb, but I can't even say I'm motivated to do that anymore.

going with Ginafae's latest post: computer games used to be based on dnd rules and worlds. Now it's the other way around. And not for the better.

There's one good thing here:
If people say "Dungeons and Dragons? That's evil!", now we can reply: "No, it's not. D&D 4th edition, THAT one is evil!"

I have updated the game finally. Conversation is definately over for now, and action is at hand!!!

Sibelius, if you get your character done in time, we'll get him/her in the battle from another angle, with the excuse that you were being late for the meeting and heard the group had left for the Broken Grommel tavern. If you don't have it done in time... then what's keeping you! j/k

Get to posting guys!!

Topic: You Filthy Little Thief!!!
Subject: update is finally here

It seemed the discussion of ideas was coming to an end. Several options had been named, but none had been chosen. Perhaps they were in the wrong environment, talking with too much emotion from unexpected reunions. They hadn’t seen each other in a long time, and to be plunged into something as pressing as the matter at hand could mean taking a step backwards might ease their minds a bit. Pio’s suggestion to get a drink at a nearby tavern was a good one.

The Broken Grommel tavern was situated a few streets away from the orphanage. They had all been there at some point in their life, either for drinking, company or an errand for Ormander. The streets they had to go through were quite narrow, and filled with cluttered garbage and smells left by drunkards. Occasionally a rat hurried away from them. The high buildings around them cast deep shadows and silence over the alleys.

Hardly any other travellers dared themselves into these streets. When they did cross another human, it was a ragged beggar with a half empty bottle in one hand and the other one supporting his back. He breathed a raunchy wisp into their faces, and spoke in a cracked voice:

“Y’lot got a grrrrommel for an old soldier? Or maybe sum Jetra even? Y’sure look like you got some.”

Whether or not they gave him some of their small coinage, the ragged man turned when he had passed through their midst to look at them triumphantly. From a side alley, three villains with clubs and daggers appeared and gathered behind him. On the group’s other side came three more, equally armed. They were street scum, but nobody they recognized.

“Alright lot, now give us the rest of your money!” The drunkard said in a suddenly steady tone. He held up the hand that had been supporting his back, and in it dangled a purse full of coins. Glancing at their belt pouches, the companions could see tiny cuts where several coins had ‘fallen out’. The seven robbers seemed determined to fight, but awaited the group’s reaction. Perhaps they would give their money willingly?

(OOC: Alright guys, here’s your first chance to prove how you’ll all do as a team. The six robbers who came later are 4 male, and 2 female (one on either side). The male all carry daggers in one hand, and two of them also carry a club with a nail through it. The females carry crossbows, but have daggers on belts too. They all seem to have seen a few battles. Oh… and they stink.)

Yes, so far things were going smoothly. Draven came and went with his usual shady rudeness, and regarded the group from the bar, a mug of Troglodite's Tears™ in his hand. He was not bothering them, and they left him alone.

Elessarae was quickly convinced she had found the group she had been looking for. She could not know for sure, but they fit the description and appeared civilized enough. Plus, Comrade or Moon Shadow by his new and more mature name, seemed at ease, which was always a good sign.

The barkeeper brought their drinks as conversation went on. After introductions the topic changed, and the bladesinger revealed her fears to the group. But she wished to remain silent until the town's druid came by. After a few minutes they were still the only ones in the inn. Geim went over to fetch Draven, and found he was not the first one.
Gothard, Loda's wolf drinking companion was already sitting at the warrior's feet, begging for a sip of the strong ale. Whether Draven abided Geim's request or not, the innkeeper told them he would go get the town's druid or one of the elders.

Ten minutes later, he had not returned yet. Perhaps it was better to speak now, and repeat the story once the druid had arrived?

true, but perhaps there are things that people want to say without town officials involved?

It's not like my update is bound now by Saturday, since this is conversation only. I would like to wait until monday or so to post that these people arrive. Because I want you guys to carry this conversation. It's important.

I'm sure you've ALL met at some point, but the question is how involved you were in each other's lives. If Llammoth was a student of stealth, she would not have been seen much at the orphanage at later age. Although normal stealing doesn't happen anymore at the orphanage, there are plenty of other things involved for rogues to enjoy.

Hey! An all Goblin party was my next idea for a short adventure in Audalis, for when Filthy Thief is over. But you can take it, if you want, because I've got many other ideas going on.

I think that's the one you should be going for. But I wouldn't make it a reverse dungeon, because that one is more tactical, and tactical is pretty hard in play by post dnd.

Give players a chance to make evil characters

I just read an alternate theory about this Cloverfield movie, and I must urge you all to watch the movie before reading it, otherwise there is no fun in either.

follow this link, but you'll have to log in to imdb.com. If you don't want to do this, I'm sorry, but you can't read it.

alternate theory
Read only the last three paragraphs of the first post, the rest isn't interesting enough to waste time on.

Topic: yet another movie thread...
Subject: Cloverfield

We just came back from watching Cloverfield, and I would LOVE to see it again Right now!

I thought that it was very well done, although it doesn't answer many question.
Cloverfield is a crossbreed between Blair Witch and Godzilla. I don't want to spoil the fun here, so let me just tell you that it lifts itself above other monster movies by the reality of everything that's happening. The shaky handheld camera is something to get used to, but enhances the experience because you're on the edge of your seat not to miss anything.

I agree that the beginning of the movie is somewhat boring, but absolutely necessary for character bonding. Also, it heightens the action that follows, and stops at the exact moment you're consciously tired of it.

The monster itself looks like something that ran away from a Studio Gibli movie (Princess Mononoke, or Spirited Away).
The acting is good. There was not a single moment that a scene felt unnaturally performed. You have to keep reminding yourself that somewhere there had to be a director that said 'cut' and 'one more time'. It just feels real.

I figured out how the movie would end within the first half hour, and if you pay close attention to the way the film is portrayed, so will you. It didn't come as a shock to me, but I think not everybody will like it.

We had a great time watching this movie. It's more like an experience than a story. Much like Blair Witch was. Only, this one is 100 times better.

Funny thing: it was only when the credits started rolling that I realized there had been no music to enhance the tension. Of course there was no music, because it was supposed to be a documentation. But where so many monster movies rely on tension building tones, this one totally didn't need any.

Go watch this in theaters, and don't wait for the DVD release.

Malius offered the ring to Draven while on horseback. So during traveling. There's no way that Draven wasn't there. On another note: I'm pretty sure everybody in the party would've heard, and none of the other reacted to it either. Perhaps you can alter your post a bit so that Draven either declines or accepts?

That would be nice.

And Tann, don't always jump into the negative over these kind of things ok? People can misread or misinterpret over the internet easily. I'm sure Valimar didn't mean any harm.

good posting, guys, although now I'm wondering if I should update this weekend, or give you all some more time to get aquainted... there's a load of stuff you need to talk about. So unless I see a whole lot of posting between now and Saturday morning, I will not update this weekend, or at least not anything that will move the adventure further.

well, one look at the dates of posts could've told you that this is fresh. But the spot we were asking for has been filled.

Lucky you: another one just opened up this week! So if you're still interested, so are we. I suggest you read the game thread (only a couple of pages yet), and see if you're interested. If you are, you're just in time for the real deal. Introductions have just been made, and the actual adventuring is about to begin!

So far we have:

Stryke - Kastor the Barbarian
Suicidolt - Percifeer the Sorceress
Drakar - Athur the Fighter
Ayrn - Pio Erosa the Knight
Philosopher - Llammoth the Rogue

So we could definately use a cleric or another non-fighter class. If you choose to be a cleric, the most prominent God would be Falloes.

Let me know what you want by posting here or writing me a PM.

One more thing that I cannot underline too much is: No evil characters please!

We've also lost Vorrioch to real life issues. I don't want to, but perhaps I need to find another replacement?

What do you guys think?

In ANY case, I would like to act like Vorrioch's character was never in the game. We've only just started, so that shouldn't be such a problem. I can't think of a possible reason, besides death, why Alexandro would leave this quest.

Percifeer called out to the little girl, curious to know why she had been stared at. But Olivia didn't reply, either oblivious to the sorceress' call or pretending she didn't hear it.

Pio came with a plausable suggestion, and it sounded like a good one. But before anybody else could sprout another idea, a call came from downstairs. It was Ormander, and his voice boomed joyously.

"Llammoth! Your brothers and sisters are already upstairs. I hope you don't mind if I give you a brief version of what happened?"

Seconds later footfall on the stairs told them company was coming up. Then Ormander showed up, with a half-orc by his side who most of them remembered: Llammoth 'the whisper'. One of the most silent shadows the orphanage had ever known. Ormander remained with them during the meetings and short description of plans so far, but after that returned to his duties downstairs, so that the party could continue their brainstorming.
