I now see that this was probably MY fault since I wrote this:

"A boney finger was pointed at the cave and he raspily crowed in the goblin tongue: “I need four more guards on that cage, and this ruckus is ending now.”"

Which should've been "pointed at the CAGE and he..." of course.

Sorry for that.

I posted. Hopefully we can get through this conversation with a few quick posts, so we can get to the fighting sequence... OOPS! Did I say that? I didn't mean that. ... I really didn't.

Seriously though, this does not have to become a more dangerous situation than it already is.

The Heart of Darkness
Some Shady Back Alley
Drefast

~Positive Tide is normal
~Negative Tide is rising

Pao stood up alone, but he did not leave the table by himself. Others joined him, while Percifeer stayed behind with Beinsel. Perhaps it was not such a bad idea for some of them to keep an eye on the situation from a distance. The duo saw the group cross the smoke-filled room lead by the glass.

The darkest of shadows were reserved for the far end of the tavern. There were no candles, or even lights of smoke-ware here. This part was drenched in black; a place for people who chose to observe rather than be observed by others. There Pao offered his drink to nothingness, calling forward a name that he had caught from one of the other orphans, who caught it from a rat on the streets.

The reaction he got was perhaps not what he had expected. The few blurry silhouettes that he caught around a shady table started laughing, loudly: a bellow of wicked humor, like hyena’s before jumping a cornered catch. But one of the silhouettes did not move or respond. When the others had reduced their outburst to mere chuckles the person leaned forward. It was a big man with a bald head and a dark tan skin. His face resembled a bulldog’s and was adorned with a multitude of piercings. One of his eyes was only half open and pussed a green liquid. A deep scar hinted that this eye would not close or open, and hadn’t done so in many years. The other eye was alert and displayed wickedly under a firm brow. It went from Pao to Ocyari, where it lingered for a second to look at Dai Lung and finally Miran.

“Not many dare come in here calling me Virgin. You’re either very dumb or you have a death-wish. Still, you bring a drink, and it seems to be my favourite. So what do you want? A knife in your throat or the palm of a hand?”

He spoke matter-of-factly. There was no real telling if he was angry or messing with the orphans. Until they knew, they would have to be cautious.

Updated... next time I'm going to skip a big portion of time, unless you guys come up with a real plan.

Tann, Malius finds that his ferrets are still alive, but not anywhere near.

Brianna: Geim only had one Cure Serious left, you used one Prayer spell and a Cure Serious in the battle with the goblin paladin (wyvern rider). I had you use it on Malius, and use a Cure Moderate on Elessarae.

Goblin Encampment
The Chakran Mnts
18th day of the 8th month: Temoth Ore
9:12 pm

After Kurok’s outburst, things settled down a bit in the camp. The orcs once more sat down, though now seven of them remained, silently inspecting and evaluating them. Their spirits were uplifted, and glee ran free on their faces. They were definitively looking forward to something.

When Geim started his chanting, masked by Elessarae’s singing, more than a few guards turned at the sounds that suddenly flowed from the cage. They were unaccustomed to the low Khordaldrum tones and the higher, edgy melodies of the Sylvarian Bladesingers. It made them nervous. More nervous than they already were. They eyed each other, eyed the cage, but did not dare move. But when Geim had finished his first healing spell (cure serious on Malius, since he doesn’t have cure critical yet), one of them realized what had just happened. The guard’s eyes went wide first, than he started shouting something in draconic tongue (for those who understand this language: “Magic! They’re using the power to heal wounds!”). He turned and broke into a run. There was no doubt he was going to inform someone of higher rank about this. If he would get away, their plans for escape would surely fail!

But help came from an unexpected source. As soon as the goblin guard began its sprint, one of the orcs stood up and took a running jump. He caught the goblin by the legs and tackled him hard. They both landed in a cloud of dust, but the orc was up in no time, and kicked the goblin in the flank before dragging him to his feet. There was a short snarl or reprimand, and the goblin returned to his post. The orc found his way back to his fellows and sat down once more as if nothing had ever happened.

The healing continued inside the cage, under the watchful eyes of the orcs. Elessarae used two of her spells for healing, and when all was done, the companions were somewhat refreshed and healthier than before. But the discharge of so much clerical power had rendered Geimiedefher exhausted. Healing spells came with a toll, and it dragged hard on the Khord’s bones and muscles. He need to sleep. They all needed to rest, to restore more power and regain spells.
If the orcs had any sympathy for the encaged group, they were not likely to show it now. When they noticed the first of the companions fall into slumber, they sent two of them away, who soon returned with a set of drums and wooden clubs. It was their turn to treat the heroes to a taste of their musical skills… which were abominable. The drumplayer knew to keep a pace, but the other orcs slammed their clubs into the metal bars of the cage in a unrhythm that was SO out of beat that it was an art in itself. There would be no sleeping in quite a while.

But the drums and the healing had stirred up the strange creature in the corner of the cage. It was chipping and chirping at them now, as if trying to communicate with them. When they didn't understand it, it struggled and squeezed a choked "Where... I...?" out of its throat.

(OOC: hit points count is now as follows:
Thondrek: 19/61
Malius: 29/42
Geim: 20/64
Elessarae: 22/53
Draven: 11/42
Kurok: 24/91
Loda: 17/51

That is at least a little better than it was before. There is no way you’re going to fall asleep through the constant noise around you, and there is no indication that the orcs are going to stop their dance/music anytime soon.)

Subject: GAH!!! Grugg, you !@#%

Almerin was very busy gaping at the others in the common room with horror filled eyes, when the obvious hero came in and assured everybody that things would be settled in a heartbeat.
The King of Toads (for such is what he was) followed the man with his gaze, hoping for a quick solution to the case of the missing cake.

The man's rapid return and Grugg's exclamation of desire to be left alone short-circuited his brain for a second. Then he swirled his cape from his shoulders and stomped up the stairs. A door slammed and his muffled voice could be heard from the higher quarters:

"Grugg! Look what you did! You almost killed one of the newbies! Now go bake Alacrity a new cake... ok? And let go of my finger."

"Grugg, let go of my finger."

"Dude! Stop biting my finger! I'll poke you with my scepter..."

Then things went quiet, and Almerin's online status turned into an empty space.

Goblin Encampment
The Chakran Mnts
18th day of the 8th month: Temoth Ore
9:02 am

Perhaps it was the stares of the orcs, or perhaps it was being fed up with the chains around him that set Kurok into a fit of anger. It started with name-calling, something that only brought grins and laughter from the orcish spectators. But urged on by Thondrek, the barbarian captive started pulling at his chains.
When his bonds were not ready to give in, Kurok’s angry words turned into a screaming rage that made some of the orcs stand up in amazement. Kurok himself got on his feet, muscles bulging. The links in the chains stood tight now, as rage was surging through Khordish veins.
The orcs started cheering Kurok on, but the four goblin guards tried to calm them down, eyeing the cage nervously. They did not oblige to the demands for caution, and rooted louder and louder. More orcs and goblins came to watch, and started to cheer at the attempt to escape.

With a mighty battle cry, Kurok pulled at his chains with all his might. Then, finally, one of the links broke, and his hands were free. For a moment the crowd went quiet, then roared louder than before. The orcs that had initially sat down to watch the cage were now head butting and chest bumping in excitement, knocking over goblins as they went. Kurok went ahead and used his anger to rip off his ankle-bonds as well. But he found a halt at the bars of the cage they were in. As soon as he approached, he found two spearpoints coming his way as guards approached.
The crowd went suddenly silent, but it was not the guards prodding that caused it. An old goblin with a furry cloak with a high pointy hood came walking towards the cage, and the other goblins and even the orcs parted to let him pass. A crooked staff supported the old goblin, three dead rats and a live raven topping the ancient wood. A boney finger was pointed at the cave and he raspily crowed in the goblin tongue: “I need four more guards on that cage, and this ruckus is ending now.”

He was not mad, upset or even frightening, but the crowds quieted, and more than one goblin went on his business again. Four goblins grabbed spears from a nearby tent and hurried to join the ones that were already keeping Kurok away from the bars of the cage. The old goblin spent three seconds of his gaze on the captives, then left again.

(OOC: I don't know what you guys plan to do, or what Kurok's plan was exactly. If he wants to kill himself on the spears of the goblins, then he can do that. I would advice differently.)

I'm sorry to hear that Jozan, but 3 weeks is nothing. When I failed my test I had to take a bunch of drivers ed lessons (practical, not theory) because that's just how it goes here in the netherlands. You have it easy over there. Getting a license here is freaking expensive.

So cheer up, on the other side of the world people are suffering more

I'm going to wait with an update until people stated whether or not they're following Pao. I would encourage you all to do so though.

Also, I would like to note that you can get some very important information here. How you handle things might well decide if you are going to get close to actually helping Ormander, or if you're going to have to find a different route again.

The Heart of Darkness

~Positive Tide is normal
~Negative Tide is rising

When Beinsel started strumming his guitar in the room filled with soft murmur, all eyes were on the companions again. Some stares were filled with annoyance, some with wondering why anybody would try to raise a musical instrument in a tavern like the one they were in. But the tones were true, and masterfully placed, and when Ocyari’s voice piped in, more than a few conversations were paused to listen.

There was no knowing who understood what the child sang, or where such a young being had learned the language of the fey. But the room was enchanted for a moment. Halfway through her song, some of the customers returned to their conversation. The sudden disruption already passed as inferior to their own interests. But others listened until the song was done, and a few faint claps sounded from across the room. One of the vampires got up and, while staring at Ocyari continuously, walked out of the front door. His stare had been on her neck, rather than her face.

Kaelyn:
I don't know about how many 0 level spells you have left. We should've specified how many spells you sacrificed to throw boulders at the hordes on the mountain.
I don't think you have a 2nd level spell left, for the same reason. If you had one left, the destruction and amount of boulders would not have been so high.

As for dimension-hopping, I have to agree with Wyrmstring, you belongings and stuff attached to you would hop with you, so the bonds would stay. Logically speaking. But I like the idea, so I may pass it for this time. BUT, I don't think you need magic or high stats to get out of this cage, and if I have any say in the matter, I'd rather see Kurok break his bonds than use a dimension hop. The odds of him breaking it are good enough (I didn't tell you that, don't let the DM hear it, ok? )

Now the only thing is, can you muster a 2nd level spell by sacrificing lower ones? How does that work?

But still, I would like to receive a translation. I'm curious as a cat, and I was hoping that I could do something with the poem in a later stage of the game? Later meaning possibly tomorrow or in 2 months.

And Utan, please post your ideas. There's no reason to wait with posting to let others get to it. If nobody takes the first step, nothing will happen.
(hehe, I do realize that I've asked you to slow down in the beginning of your involvement. Sorry for all the confusion )

I don't really see why 0 level spells would be restored if other spells aren't. Special abilities like quick cast or use of feats are renewed, yes.

Reralae: Miran has Sylvari on his language list... he just named it 'elven'. But it's the same in Audalis.

And Pao is a half-elf. I don't know how many languages he is allowed. I think only one, and that would be 'common'. He might catch hints of it, though.

And... I don't speak sylvari, but perhaps there are some patrons in the tavern that do. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad to share what the poem/song means.

Kurok's hands and feet are bound by chains, but those chains are not connected. His hands are bound behind his back.

On a side note, I was contacted by Valimar and he will get an internet connection in the coming weekend. He should be back shortly. For the continuation of the game, we'll act as if he participated in the last battle and got captured like the rest of you.

With a result of 19, you realize that the wings don't look strong enough to fly. Perhaps gliding with them would be possible, but there is no way they'll be lifting the creature off the ground, let alone with somebody on his back.
