Topic: New Spores of Itanlok Q/A ~ 1
Subject: Purple Haze Mind Maze ...

..... has been posted to help get things underway.

There is a tweak or two along with a bit of additional prose from my original post from the first incarnation of Spores.

Thanks again Almerin for allowing Loco to participate in this Spores revival.

Am especially looking forward to Eol posting as one of the original cast from the first incarnation of Spores!

Plus all the newcomers!

Topic: New Spores of Itanlok ~ 1 ~ A Short Adventure in Audalis
Subject: Purple Haze Mind Maze

Wedding Party
Second Day
The Spores of Itanlok
Mushroom Forest
Warrens of Gunthras

'Loco' Fungihammer swayed his way between the revelers who were draining their tankards in celebration of the long awaited union of Kretarund and Befilda Orehand.

Almost absent mindedly fingering one of the braids of his silver beard that held the small sapphire that was given to him countless years earlier by the bride's family for rescuing their children; the Cleric stared almost trance-like at the merry makers who were enshrouded in a purple haze that filled the perceptions of his mushroom enhanced mind.

The Orehands and the Shieldmasters had planned this wedding since Befilda was a toddler. It was a great opportunity for both parties, since it would strengthen their positions as aspiring granite-distributors.

"Well ... it could have been a tiny chunk of granite I suppose ... a small reward for the dangers I had to overcome ... rescuing those boys from ..."

Kretarund and Befilda Orehand were sitting on a single big chair, taking in the festivities and whispering soft comments about the guests in each other’s ear over a mug of Dark Bellyfold.

"...Oh you have to be kidding me! Did you invite 'Loco' Fungihammer to the party?”

The groom had almost dropped his mug in astonishment. Befilda followed his gaze and groaned.

“Tyrannis’ Tits, I didn’t think ‘e would actually show up. You know ‘e saved some of me brothers? I couldn’t NOT invite him. Cost me quite a bit to track him down too. Let’s just hope ‘e will stay away from the beer.”

Kretarund laughed heartily at his wife’s remark. “We’re Khords. Of course he won’t stay away from the beer!”

The words seemed to ripple their way over the crowd with big white block letters, burning their way through the purple haze, seemingly fuzzy and faded as they reached out and touched the Cleric's enhanced senses.

"Such a lovely couple ... they deserve each other ... why I remember when ..."

To prove his claim he brought the Dark Bellyfold to his lips and dried it to the last drop.

He flung the wooden mug to the ground and echoed a deep, satisfied burp over the heads of the crowd.

Cheers went up and more than one reply sounded back at the couple.

The cacaphony of sounds assailing 'Loco' Fungihammer's mushroomed consciousness caused his brain to surf the soundwaves of a seemingly endless ocean of Erps and Burps that had spontaneously followed the dull thud of the wooden mug that the groom had flung to the ground.

Swept back into the cesspool of his clouded memories ... 'Loco' was helpless to withstand the flood of memories assailing his mind ... remembering the dark visions of a wedding ... the dangers that were to follow ... children needing a champion ... nay ... several champions ... to free them from their fears ...

He had heeded such visions thrice before ... as the sapphire, emerald and ruby stones in the three braids of his silver beard did attest ... but the last rescue had cost the adventurer dearly ...

His childhood friend ... one Stinkpod Stonecutter ... had given his life in the galiant effort to rescue the children ... for 'Loco' had been forced to choose ... the life of his friend ... or ... the life of the children ... and the results of his choice ... had driven the Cleric to a life of solitude the past 10 years in a secluded cavern ... in the Caves of Madness ...

From the depths of those Caves of Madness ... 'Loco' had found solace with his mushrooms ... only emerging a number of weeks ago on sheer impulse ... goaded by the dark visions ... seeking relief ... seeking a quest ... knowing the danger ... challenging the unknown ...

Days later the Cleric chanced upon a grim messenger ... bearing an invitation to the wedding of Befilda ... the invitation had been a mere courtesy ... that the Cleric fully understood ... but an invitation that bore witness ... none the less ... to setting the stage ... of the unfolding of coming events ... foreseen in the Caves of Madness ... things unspoken ... things feared ... things ...

Pulling him from his dark reverie were the war-drum percussionists ... as 'Loco' found himself contorting and gyrating in tune with the echoing ... and re-echoing ... of the drum beats ... resounding inside his mind ... multiplying ... then dividing ... increasing ... then decreasing ... as the crescendo of the Catch the Badger dance ... melted the Cleric's aloof introspection ...

'Loco' found himself loosing his pent up emotions ... riding the waves of the percussionists ... flowing with the celebration of the crowd ... descending a multitude of times more ... in the midst of his memories of descending into the earth upon the whirling staircase ... entering this rabbits nest ... with all the security of ...

Suddenly a loud explosion erupted from somewhere close to the bar, which made the ground shake and brought sand and dust misting from the ceiling.

Heads turned, silence fell and everyone’s attention was on a Khord with a blackened face, who was holding what was left of two wooden mugs.

“My apologies,” he shied, then started laughing.

They all knew who he was: Magnumopus Warpstone, one of the Servants of Fire and Stone; followers of Kharox that experimented in chemistry and ‘new weaponry’.

A dangerous lot to be around. Apparently, he had been mixing different kinds of ale that did not fit together well.

Magnumopus looked around at the astonished faces of the Khords around him. They were as black as he was and equally unharmed.

Still, he started brushing off the first person that came to hand: a multi-colored wizard named Crellin Ironspark.

The silence slowly faded when chatter restarted and Kretarund returned to his bride.

Loco swayed with the ripples of sound echoing along the corridors of his beer-sloshed, mushroom enhanced mind.

The Cleric was unable to determine if the colors emanating from Crellin Ironspark were applied from a painted reality, or if the shimmering glows bursting across his enebriated brain were the result of his self-isolation with the magically induced mushrooms the Khord had edibly embraced during these many years of self-induced exile in the Caves of Madness.

Whatever the reality or unreality mesmerizing Loco's mind, it mattered little to the Cleric, as he enjoyed floating around within the maze of his mind with the unexpected spectacular intrusion of the multi-colored infusion emanating from the features of the Khord Wizard.

Kretarund and his bride started to meander back to their chair when they noted a deer on the dance floor.

It was accompanied by a Khord they knew pretty well. Niaou’li Aniha was Befilda’s friend and one of the few female Khords to pursue the life of the druid.

Niaou’li was the one who had suggested the use of ‘the Spores’ bar as a place to hold the celebration. They had been very pleased so far with the establishment and grinned widely at her.

“You know, Niaou’li,” Befilda started, “we’re so glad you’re here to feast with us.”

“But you really shouldn’t have brought that Sylvari …thing in here.” Finished Kretarund, pointing at the deer.

“Don’t mind him. He’s had a bit too much.” Befilda winked at her friend.

“Too much? This is our wedding! There is no ‘too much’ in a wedding. If I could I would get one of those tubes up my arm for an Ale pranstrusion or waddisitcalled, I would do it!”

Loco pondered what the effects of a mushroom pranstrusion would do to further alter the unreality of his reality, but whatever remnants of such a conclusion drifted away from his realm of reason, like a multitude of frogs leaping and hopping through the swampy underbrush of his conscious thoughts.

His attention was now focusing, unfocusing and refocusing upon the visage of the deer on the dance floor.

Loco paid little heed to the lady Druid who accompanied the deer, as he refused to allow himself to drift unchecked to the locked away memories of his lost love, or the reasons for his past motivations to search for lost children.

He thoughtfully fingered the three braids in his beard, his deep purple eyes gazing upon the serenity of the deer, which provided the Cleric a simplistic serenity upon the backdrop of the cascading emotions rippling from the gathered crowd around the dance floor.

An inner peace of unfathomable contentment welled up from within the inner depths of Loco Fungihammer as he surveyed the purple haze mind maze that brought him comfort as he scrutinized the scene before him.

His mushrooming conclusion was that the Khord Cleric was more at home in the presence of the deer than with his fellow Khords.

He waved his hand in fascinated greeting to the deer, but the kaleidescope of colors passing before his eyes from a rippling effect from the movement of his hand, pulled his consciousness into yet another realm of untold mystery within his own mushroomed mind.

Befilda dragged her husband away, and they found their chair laughing and stumbling.
“Bef,” he said, “this is the best wedding a Khord could wish for.”

'Loco' Fungihammer surfed the soundwaves of his mind ... enjoying every mushroom enhanced moment ... the dark cobwebs blasted from his mind at long last ...

Lifting a tankard of fresh Bitter Root Beer ... the Cleric offered a toast to no one in particular ... least of all the bride and groom ...

"Make Room for the Mushrooms!"

Brianna I am waiting on your opening post.

Dragon Mistress I received your PM with the character info.

Please post it in the Haunted Highlands game section.

You do realize that a couple orcs will be running up against you and you have bow and arrows drawn and no sword drawn to counter attack them?

Of course you can rely on the Sentries or Fighters to shoot them with their arrows and Loren can shoot arrows at the other advancing Orcs.

On both counts. You have time to get things posted.

I just happened to get things moving a bit better since I was visiting a friend with online access for my laptop.

Now I am elsewhere, but visiting friends who have a computer, so I am answering this morning.

Anyway, your character will initially react to the Orcs attack as it is somewhat of a surprise attack.

Initiative has been won by the defenders of the roadhouse, so you will be able to counter attack before the Orcs get another shot ... literally!

Subject: Well ...

..... I sent Almerin a PM regarding my former character Loco to see if he has the complete info.

I could be persuaded to get involved with this one again as long as he has the character info.

My info was lost when my laptop had to be mind wiped earlier this year!

Enjoyed adventuring with the likes of Eol and Kaelyn in the past adventures that became extinct for one reason or another.

I can always type stuff on my laptop and transfer to my flashdrive until I get to a computer to post in a game.

Also ordered the paperback version of "Of Gods and Monsters" that should be arriving in a few days, although I am out of town presently!

We will add the deity info as we go in the next few weeks!

Subject: The Open Gate

For your information the Open Gate is 30 feet wide.

The Party of Adventurers is standing 10 feet outside the gate with their backs to the Orcs as they gaze upon the fresh heads perched on the pikes of the palisades.

Facing the Gate the following PC Characters are from right to Left:

The Fighter, The Ranger, The Cleric, The Druid and The Bard.

When they whirl around to face their attackers they will be standing from Left to Right.

There is one open space remaining in front of the gate, but that will be filled by an NPC [probably Adaf Adshead] when T-2 of R-1 [Turn 2 of Round 1] begins.

Each occupied space is 5 feet square.

For your information the 2 Sentries are so seasoned that even though the Orcs have been hidden by an Invisible Sphere spell and are rushing forward with a surprise attack, their seasoned training will allow them to fire 2 Arrows each before the Orcs reach the Adventurers!

That is why they are Sentries!

They have Keen Eyes and Keener Reflexes!

I have already made the Initiative Roll for T-2 and the Sentries, Adaf Adshead and his 5 Fighters plus the 5 PC Characters will get to attack the Orcs again after the initial surprise attack has been resolved.

Udru Ironhammer and any other NPCs inside Dirty's Roadhouse are stationing themselves strategically to defend the Roadhouse in case any Orcs break through the defense of the 5 PC Characters and Adaf Adshead and his 5 Fighters who will be firing 1 Arrow each at the Orcs.

So post your reactions here and for the sake of simplicity, just mention that your character attacks the nearest Orc within reach of your Blades!

Remember to sever their heads after they have been killed so you can collect the fresh head bounty!

The NPCs are merely your backup!

The 5 Adventurers will split the Coin for Fresh Orc Heads as well as the Treasure they carry and the Experience Points from this encounter.

NPCs are merely backing up the PC Characters!

They will not share in any Reward or Treasure or any Experience Points accrued from this encounter.

Only the 5 Adventurers receive the spoils!

Subject: Reflections of Nordrog the Gnome part 2

Nordrog was enthralled by the number of heads perched on the pikes of the palisades at Dirty's Roadhouse.

These defeated foes seemed to be even more gruesome and loathsome than those that had attacked the wagons over the past 12 weeks.

Nordrog and his companions were standing side by side outside the open gate [which is 30 feet wide by the way] about 10 feet from the opening as the last wagon began making its way inside.

The companions were facing the open gate while looking up at the defeated foes on the pikes of the palisades.

As Nordrog continued reflecting upon what it might be like to face such fearsome foes, his reverie was broken by the single word shouted in unison by the two sentries above and to his right:

"ORCS"

The Gnome Cleric instinctively whirled around as he breathed a hasty prayer to his deity, clutching the handle of his light mace as he instinctively drew his weapon.

His fleeting thoughts as his blood began pounding in his ears was of the hope that he and his companions could successfully survive this surprise attack without any casualties.

Afterall, he had become quite fond of his companions and the thought of any of them falling so soon in battle was not a comforting thought in the least.

He was also glad to have his new friend Oriander fighting at his side!

The Gnome Cleric would do his best to aid his companions and collect some coin for some fresh orc heads!

Topic: Haunted Highlands Q&A
Subject: Generosity for Experience Points

Okay Gang

A generous portion of Experience Points are being distributed to each PC Character for the following:

Each of you is getting a pre-determined amount of Experience Points for the 12-week journey.

The Experience Point value of each of the Magic Weapons that the PC Characters receive when they get settled in the roadhouse will be added together and then divided equally amongst the adventurers!

Although a Magic Weapon given to a certain character may have 2 or nearly 3 times the Experience Point values for the weapon as compared to a weapon given to another character, the Experience Points value for each weapon will be added together and divided among the group equally.

My thinking being that an individual weapon is not only for the enhancement of a specific character, but for the enhancement of the collective adventure party as a whole.

Therefore the points are being divided equally among the group of adventurers. They all earned it by working together, so they get to share the combined Experience Points equally for the benefit of the group!

Thirdly, a total of 1000 Experience Points is being awarded to each PC Character as a generous bonus to bring them closer to Level 5 before we get too far into the adventure!

But to get that extra 1000 Experience Points you must post the Character History and put some good substance into your role play post also.

Nordrog and Oliander have qualified [as I plan to write up a second part to the Reflections of Nordrog the Gnome!]

Future Role Play Experience Points will be determined as the adventure progresses.

The Experience Points awarded for the 12-week journey + the Magic Weapons Experience Points divided among the group will cause each PC Character to exceed the points needed for Level 4 when they get settled at the roadhouse!

Hope your computer cooperates so you can get your character info and history posted.

Your Bard especially needs to have some depth with both the history and the role play post, because the Bard Class hits Level 5 sooner than the other classes in the game!

The substance of your role play coupled with what you will gain in Experience Points after the first encounter with the orcs and return to the roadhouse will bring you pretty close to Level 5 before leaving the roadhouse later.

Enjoyed your post Nomad.

Sounds like you are developing an interesting character!

You have gained some Experience Points for your entries!

Remember that Strength is a Prime for Rangers in C&C.

Half-elves with a human lineage possess these abilities:

ATTRIBUTE CHECK MODIFICATION: The human lineage is reflected in a greater versatility than their elven kin, but not quite as their human relatives.

Half-elven characters are allowed to choose one secondary attribute for which they gain a +2 bonus to all attribute checks.

Probably would be wise to make this +2 bonus an addition to your Dexterity Secondary Prime to help with your 2-handed sword fighting.

Half Elves only get to choose 1 other Secondary Prime.

Humans are the only character races to have 2 Secondary Primes in addition to their Class Prime.

Subject: Friendly Reminder on Experience Points

Just a Friendly Reminder that both your Character History as it blends in with the starting scenario and your Role Play before this first battle gets underway will have an impact upon your Experience Points!

When you get settled into the roadhouse after this first battle encounter, each PC Character will have attained Level 4.

How close to attaining Level 5 will depend upon your quality of Role Play posted before the outcome of your upcoming battle with the Orcs!

In fact, your Role Play throughout the course of this adventure will provide Experience Points to help your PC Character to Level Up in addition to finding Treasure etc!

Subject: Nordrog the Gnome Reflections Part 1

Nordrog had learned how to ride a horse more out of necessity than on purpose.

The Noble Wars had forced the gnome to adapt in more ways than one.

His preference was to walk and commune with his deity in the natural surroundings of whatever habitat that Nordrog currently found himself residing.

However, the necessity for survival soon dictated that the gnome not only learn how to balance himself on a horse, but to be able to take command and actually direct a steed over the rough terrain amidst a hail of arrows or worse!

Nordrog judged himself to be adequate at best, which was soon tested time and again as he rode with the wagons as one of the protectors hired by Adaf Adshead.

The cleric kept to himself most of the time, unless he was spoken to by one of the other adventurers in the party, or when Adaf Adshead made it a point to make the gnome more comfortable by engaging him in conversation from time to time as the journey progressed.

Being in the company of so many humans made the gnome uneasy and suspicious, a natural side effect from the rigors of The Noble Wars, but he enjoyed the company of the Elves and especially the company of the Half Elf Ranger, who seemed to favor his human heritage.

This Ranger made the perfect buffer between the humans in the employ of Adaf Adshead and the Elves who made Nordrog more comfortable as the days passed into weeks.

He especially enjoyed the Bard who had the talent and inspiration of song and oration that seemed to make the long trip shorter at times.

Nordrog appreciated the company of the Elf Fighter, for he knew the value of a good fighter having your back in times of perilous heroics!

Then there was the Druid with her intriguing capabilities in times of battle, in spite of her apparent deep rooted sorrow that Nordrog sensed from time to time.

He did not wish to pry, as he knew from experience that most everyone had suffered more than one deep rooted loss during The Noble Wars.

Nordrog was just glad that whatever nightmare the Druid had emerged from in the aftermath of The Noble Wars had brought her into his life as a friend and not a foe!

He would just wait patiently for the Druid to unburden her sorrow in her own time and in her own way, especially as an ally against whatever foes the party may face in the future!

Nordrog knew that he could have done far worse for travel companions and comrades in arms.

At least he was able to trust the Ranger and these Elves with his life. He could do no less than to make sure he did his part to ensure his companions survived whatever the adventurers would face in the future.

So Nordrog the Gnome kept his deeper thoughts to himself, expressing only what was necessary to his companions to make the journey less irritable or antagonistic than it otherwise could have been.

His private musings were upon what sort of magic weapons that the group would be receiving from Adaf Adshead as payment for their protecting the wagons.

Try as he may, the answer was hidden from the gnome, no matter how hard he tried from time to time to get Adaf Adshead to divulge those particular secrets.

Adaf Adshead did indeed make it a point to engage the gnome in conversation, but his employer refused to drop any hints as to what type of rewards were in store for the loyal service of this band of adventurers.

As the roadhouse came within sight off in the distance, Nordrog was no closer to discovering which magic weapons would be made available to the party, than when he had first agreed to help protect the wagons those many long weeks ago.

Which suited Nordrog the Gnome just fine.

Your character will get some additional Experience Points depending upon what you write and post during role play!

Your Role Play and the arrival at the roadhouse when you receive your Magic Weapon and payment should push your character over the 4th Level and some may even get quite close to becoming 5th level, depending upon what transpires after resting at the roadhouse!

Subject: Clarification on Scenario

Okay Gang

We have a Gnome Cleric, Half Elf Ranger, Elf Druid, Elf Fighter and Elf Bard.

I am assuming that ShadowDragon has disappeared into a Real Life warp and is unable to communicate with the Inn.

The two guards have yelled "ORCS" and will be firing arrows as they have NOT been taken by surprise!

The deal with the Shaman will be revealed as time goes on, but I have to explain that the 24 orcs and the Shaman mysteriously appeared via an Invisible Sphere spell that kept all 25 orcs hidden until they appear and attack.

You actually only have time to defend yourselves as the orcs have the surprise initiative and are attacking you.

So the players are actually outside the gate and will have to survive the surprise attack, but help is on the way with the 5 Fighters riding shotgun filling in the gate opening and firing arrows ASAP.

Plus you have the Dwarf from the smithy who will be behind the Fighters with Adaf Adshead who may have a surprise awaiting the orcs.

I do not have my materials nearby as I am visiting someone this weekend and was able to get online.

Your characters do not really realize that an Invisibility Sphere was used for the surprise attack, but they will know once the attackers have been chased away, hopefully getting some Fresh Orc Head bounties!
