Subject: Plot ...

..... thickens as the South Enders response and the East Enders Ant attack and retaliation are both now posted in Land of Xenophobia!

I have already configured the remaining Combat Round 5 results for the West Enders and North Enders!

Plus I have configured Combat Round 6 for the Ants and the Fighters, Clerics and Monks!

It will take some time to type everything in to Land of Xenophobia, so all I can say at the present time is that the Ants rolled the Initiative for Round 6.

You might be advised to add some role play to Land of Xenophobia until I get the remaining results posted as what transpires may impact what you players decide to do!

Enjoy!

The East End Ants were determined to avenge their fallen comrades as the frenzied buzzing of the South End Ants alerted them that their numbers had dwindled drastically!

Ant 4 row 2 and Ant 3 row 2 were unable to strike the nimble acrobatics of Monk #8 and Ant 4 row 3 was also unsuccessful against Monk #7.

Ant 4 row 4 rose up on its hind appendages and struck the unfortunate Halfling Monk #6 with a lethal bite in the neck that not only pierced his jugular, but the momentum of the Giant Ant twisting sideways to the Dark Arena sands ripped his throat and life suddenly and unexpectedly!

Ant 3 row 5 managed two thirds damage dealing ability to the right thigh of Monk #5, but Ant 4 row 5 and Ant 5 row 5 were unable to deal any further damage!

Ant 1 row 5 and Ant 3 row 4 also failed in their attacks against Monk #3, but Ant 2 row 5 was able to inflict two thirds damage ability on his left wrist as he tried to elude his foes!

Ant 1 row 4 was unable to get close to Monk #2, but Ant 2 row 4 ripped his jugular in the same manner as the Halfling fell to the Dark Arena sands totally lifeless!

Ant 1 row 2 managed a minimal nip on the right hand of Monk #1 and Ant 2 row 2 totally missed the Halfling, but his evasive action brought him dangerously close to Ant 2 row 3 who repeated the feat of ripping and twisting the jugular until the Halfling was flung to the Dark Arena sands void of all life!

Ant 3 row 3 turned away from the lifeless form of the Halfling and moved swiftly against the previously unmolested Monk #4 and succeeded in inflicting a third of its damage dealing ability!

The Dark Arena Consortium was pleased with the response of the crowd as 3 of the condemned East Enders lay lifeless upon the Dark Arena sands!

Monk #8 retaliated against his two attackers as his Hand Axe dealt two thirds damage against Ant 4 row 2, while his Club administered half the damage dealing ability against Ant 3 row 2; however, the Halfling realized he was in dire danger!

Monk #7 fought for his life as his Hand Axe struck Ant 4 row 3 with almost full damage ability, but his Club only dealt the minimum damage against Ant 5 row 3, which left the Unconscious Giant Ant twitching with revitalizing life!

Monk #5 connected with his minimum damage dealing ability against Ant 3 row 5 with his Hand Axe and with two thirds the damage ability against Ant 4 row 5 with his Club!

His Hand Axe left his foe Unconscious and twitching, while his Club left his foe twitching with Grievous Wounds!

Monk #4 greeted the intrusive Ant 3 row 3 with almost the full force of his Hand Axe and Mortally Wounded Ant 3 row 5 with the full force of his Club! It would die during the next round of attacks!

Monk #3 only dealt a third damage ability with his Hand Axe against Ant 2 row 5, but succeeded in knocking Ant 1 row 5 Unconscious with Grievous Wounds with half the damage dealing ability of his Club!

The East End Halfling Monks are in dire danger of elimination due to this unexpected sudden turn of events!

The roar of the Dark Arena spectators seemed to increase with every passing minute as the Giant Ants appeared to get more ferocious with each attack against the four parties of gladiators at each end of the Dark Arena.

But the South Enders responded in like manner to the attacks of their foes as the Fuzzy Wolverine raked its claws along the back of Ant 1 row 2 and bit the back of its head until it fell lifeless to the Dark Arena sands!

Ullrich remembered the warning cry from Ollie Gory as his two blades sought to end the twitching of the Ants nearest him once and for all. He spun in the sand with his trademark stroke with his Short Sword that smote the twitching Unconscious Ant 3 row 2 with enough force that the wickedly timed slash in its left side ensured a Mortal Wound that would see his foe expire in two more rounds!

Then in a somewhat anti climatic curtain call movement, his Sylvan Long Sword split the skull of Ant 5 row 2 as the twitching immediately stopped as its life vanished instantly!

Intuitively the Ranger had expected Sir Yder to dispose of Ant 2 row 2 that lay twitching in the sand between them. The Knight did not disappoint as he ended the twitching by splitting the skull of his foe!

Shandra shouted to Ariane to attack the Ant between them as the Monk sank her Dagger deep enough into the back of Ant 4 row 5 to inflict a Mortal Wound that immediately ceased its twitching as its remaining hold on life would slip away in three more rounds!

She then swung her Club against the left side of Ant 3 row 5 that was positioned between her and Amberlyn from a top diagonal position. Although the force of the blow was only a third of the potential damage ability, it was sufficient to draw its attention away from the lady Knight and focus upon Shandra!

The young Paladin Ariane was visibly shaken from the previous attack that had so cruelly bitten her, but the shout from the Monk was so encouraging that the fatigue in her body suddenly surged with newfound inner strength as her Holy Avenger Long Sword struck with such force against Ant 4 row 3 that her foe dropped to the Dark Arena sands, maddeningly twitching to rise again even though it was as near to Death’s Door as it could possibly be!

Ariane was thankful that her foe would not be able to bite her again before the Killing Blow could be delivered by her blade!

Amberlyn moved five feet forward to her diagonal left direction as she shouted to the Giant Dwarf that she would help him so he would be able to maneuver into a better position to help work together against their remaining foes.

Her Feathered Long Sword bit deeply enough into the backside of Ant 4 row 2 to Mortally Wound the foe that had threatened ThunnGarr the Mighty! It would die in two more rounds!

ThunnGarr gunted as his Shield of Bashing extinguished the life from Ant 3 row 3 before his Dwarven Thrower War Hammer dealt less than half the potential damage dealing potential against Ant 4 row 4 that had been previously unharmed by any of the South Enders gladiators!

The Giant Dwarf then shouted instructions to the Elf Wizard, "Bumble Brew! Focus Your Staff of Power with a Lightning Bolt to Help Me Now!"

Bumble Brew concentrated as she channeled a blinding, sizzling bolt of electricity in a straight line path five feet wide and 100 feet long that struck Ant 1 row 4, the already dead Ant 2 row 4 and Ant 3 row 4 with half the force of damage the Staff of Power was capable of generating according to her Caster skill abilities!

Meanwhile, the Native American Cleric named Cunning Fox also responded to the warning from Ollie Gory as he selected two twitching foes.

His first Arrow ceased the twitching of Ant 2 row 1 as the damage inflicted was just enough to strike his foe with a Mortal Wound that would end its life in two more rounds!

However, his second Arrow only did a quarter of the damage dealing potential against Ant 1 row 1 as it continued its macabre twitching!

Only 7 Giant Ants remain to threaten the South Enders and 3 of them are twitching maniacally!

Sir Yder senses with his Helm of Telepathy that the Fuzzy Wolverine smells the scent of Ant 1 row 1 and will go for the Kill to protect Bumble Brew as it is the closest threat it perceives!

He is also aware that the 4 remaining active Ants have sent out a distress call for any of the others to the East or West to help them against the South Enders as quickly as possible!

Amberlyn is also aware of the same distress call with her Helm of Comprehend Languages!

Ant 4 row 3 between Shandra and Ariane is still twitching!

Ant 2 row 3 between the top diagonal right of Sir Yder and the top diagonal left of Ullrich is also twitching with renewed life!

The remaining 4 Active Ants include Ant 3 row 5 at the top diagonal left of Shandra!

Ant 4 row 4 is to the right of ThunnGarr and at the top diagonal left of Amberlyn!

Ant 1 row 4 is 3 squares/15 feet in front of Ullrich and at the top diagonal left of ThunnGarr the Mighty!

Ant 3 row 4 is at the top diagonal right of ThunnGarr the Mighty!

Blast it all ... I am no Sylvari ... sneaking about from tree to tree ... the will of Ghardan Aglar be done ... strange as it may seem ... to War then ... and may Shianna turn these Undead Filth ... which I have been counting on all along ... and staying close behind her in case of just such an encounter ... but enough of these musings ... to War ... and may Ghardan Aglar guide my spear!

"... to War ... and may Ghardan Aglar guide my spear!"

The unexpectedly voiced words were scarcely out of Volkmar Vanara's mouth as he made a Khord-type beeline from the undergrowth of the trees to join Isaac and help eliminate the shambling monstrosities that had come to greet them.

Spear raised and shield secure on his left arm, Volkmar made war vows to his deity in his Khord tongue as he made his way through the drizzle.

Knowing that Shianna had the ability to turn these shambling foes, Volkmar surmised that positioning himself to strike before the shamblers had an opportunity to recover and attack the party was his best course of action.

His previous battles repelling spiders in tunnels fueled his bloodlust as the Khord closed the gap as swiftly as his abilities would allow ... trusting that his companions would do their best to help destroy these abominations ...

The scream cut through the memory lanes that Loco tried to keep suppressed by his consumption of mushrooms.

He was instantly reminded of the loss of his best friend when a similar sound caused his friend to plunge head long into what turned out to be a trap ...

The Khord let the memory trail away as the sound of another voice behind him caught his attention.

What Baldorf had to say seemed to be reasonable, but Loco pulled at his 3 beard braids with their tell-tale jewels, which reminded him of the task at hand in locating the source of the misery that had intruded upon the festivities of the wedding.

"Do what you must young friend ... I made a vow to avenge the mother of her agony ... so I will continue tracking our unknown quarry ..."

Any further explanation as to why Loco chose to remain on the path was interrupted by the noise of Kharov drawing his weapon and shield as he reacted to the screams by running full bore in its fading direction ... a course of action that Loco would have employed many years ago ... but the remembrance of his encounters that rewarded him with his jeweled braids ... and the loss of his best friend during that last encounter ... tempered his own brash reactions ... as the Cleric quickened his pace to follow the clues along the path before him ... as he remembered ...

Subject: Inner Thoughts of Volkmar Vanara

Volkmar Vanara of the Spiderguard kept his distance from the others as the drizzle dampened his coarse hooded cloak.

These were an unlikely band of adventurers, but then again, his time of apprenticeship with the Stalwart Warriors in service to Ghardan Aglar had put the Khord fighter alongside a variety of bizarre comrades in arms these past few years.

He had learned from past encounters that good, or at least trusted, friends with unique abilities were almost always a positive asset when going into expected, or unexpected battle against both known and unknown foes!

The Khord was comfortable enough wearing his black chain mail armor and he had long before learned how to protect himself from the harsher elements of the region by angling his medium shield in just the right direction to reduce the glare of the sun or the assault of inclement weather.

He kept an even pace as he continued to make himself a familiar figure near Meera the Wolf, expecting that in a matter of time Meera would become a trusted and friendly ally in the heat of battle should the need for such a trusted and friendly ally arise.

As for Shianna, he knew from past experience and tales around the campfires that befriending such a one with her special talents and abilities could go a long way in surviving the unexpected rigors and hazards of the adventuresome life.

At this point, if they were not considered friends, the Khord was determined to at least make sure that someone who could be trusted would watch her back, so who better to watch her back than Volkmar Vanara of the Spiderguard?

As they rounded the bend in the trail, it soon became apparent that they were not the only travellers on this particular road.

Volkmar studied the shambling figures off in the distance and made an extra effort to walk to the right side of Shianna and far enough behind so as not to be intrusive!

His Short Spear in his right hand was being used like a walking stick and thankfully the Khord had enough Dexterity so as not to slip and poke his good eye with the sharp pointy end.

He watched the drama unfold as Meera whines and Shianna intones that something is quite wrong with the atmosphere of their journey!

Syana had quietly commented and Volkmar continued his pace as if her soft voice had failed to reach deaf ears!

Aryan had become almost predictable in a comical sort of way as she was looking for a good reason to break the boredom of the journey! Kiar was an amusing contrast to the unfolding events, at least as far as the Khord Spiderguard was concerned when it came to the subtle dramas of everyday adventuring life!

Isaac was obviously troubled, but Volkmar had reasoned hours ago that it would be best to leave the Fighter to his own troubled thoughts!

There would be ample time to encourage Isaac when the situation truly warranted such action!

Neri was a stabilizing force that Volkmar was glad to have in his company! No matter that they were not conversing overly much on this journey! The Khord understood that his back was covered by the Paladin should the need arise!

He would gladly follow her into any battle against any foe!

The voice of Shianna cut through his reverie as she was able to reign in Aryan with her words of battle wisdom and stealthy approach, convincing the young Mage that proceeding under cover of the nearby trees would be the best course of action to take!

Volkmar stared at the shambling figures as they grew ever closer in the dreary distance, stroking his emerald studded braid thoughtfully as he matter of factly followed the course of direction set by Shianna!

"Yon travelers could be weary ... or elderly ... mayhap they could be injured ... or perhaps they are more than meets the eye ... minions of supernatural magics ... unexpected legions of undead ... no matter what the reason for their slow gait ... it is best to stay close to Shianna ... her abilities could turn them ... if unliving they be ... and if not ... my Short Spear is at the ready ... to protect her for when her abilities will be needed most ... for something strange is indeed in the air!"

Volkmar Vanara slowly lifts the eye patch that covers his injured left eye ... the eye scarred ... but spared ... sight intact ... thanks to the war god Ghardan Aglar ... as the lifting of the eye patch solemnly signals that Volkmar Vanara of the Spiderguard is ready for battle!

Without going into specifics [which I plan to include in my post for Volkmar!] he will be staying close to Shianna and Meera!

So wherever Shianna and Meera go at the present time Volkmar will follow close enough to her right side and a bit behind so as not to be intrusive!

This will all be explained in my post with the proper italics to denote inner thoughts!

Do be aware Olan that in case I fail to post before you update the story that your update include that Volkmar has lifted his eye patch in preparaton for battle!

He is also walking along using his Short Spear as if it were a walking stick to appear less threatening to any spies!

Bumble Brew shuddered as Ant 1 row 3 lay twitching in the Dark Arena sands as though it were trying to rise back up to continue battling!

She swung her Staff of Power more like a golf club into the right side of the Giant Ant, more of a reflex action than an actual attack, but fortunately the force of the blow from the magic item was just enough to Kill her foe!

Bumble Brew looked over to watch the Fuzzy Wolverine rake its claws along the back of Ant 1 row 2, rendering it Unconscious before sinking his teeth behind its head, inflicting Grievous Wounds that brought the Giant Ant closer to Death’s Door!

Ullrich looked to his top diagonal left at the potential menace of Ant 2 row 3 and with one fluid motion slashed with his Short Sword followed by his Sylvan Blade Long Sword that left the Giant Ant twitching Unconscious with Grievous Wounds on the Dark Arena sands!

Ariane the Paladin was fed up with Ant 5 row 4 stalking her and she vented all her frustration against its persistence! The force of the blow that came crashing upon its head from the Holy Avenger Long Sword dealt it a Mortal Wound as it lay motionless in the Dark Arena sands! [This Giant Ant will be Dead in 2 more rounds!]

Sir Yder uttered an oath of victory as his Dragon Slayer Long Sword drove deep into the skull of Ant 1 row 5, driving all traces of life from its body! The Giant Ant lay motionless, beyond the ability of the Dark Arena machinations to cause it to rise and attack again!

Amberlyn flowed with the power of The Light as she swung her Feathered Long Sword in a graceful arc that struck Ant 2 row 5 between the eyes, dropping the Giant Ant instantaneously lifeless in a Death Throe upon the Dark Arena sands!

Shandra the Monk heeded the sweet whisper of The Light as she swung her Club against the left side of the face of Ant 4 row 5, swiftly followed by a minimum damage slash against the right side of its face with her newly wielded Dagger!

The Giant Ant staggered and fell to the Dark Arena sands Unconscious with Grievous Wounds! But a split second later it began twitching as if it were trying to rise up to attack her again!

ThunnGarr the Mighty took heed to the warning from Ollie Gory as he quickly swung his Shield of Bashing into Ant 3 row 3, knocking it to the Dark Arena sands Unconscious with Grievous Wounds!

Almost in the same motion his attack was followed by an instant Death Blow from his Dwarven War Hammer upon the head of Ant 2 row 4, that mere moments before merely lay upon the Dark Arena sands Unconscious, but twitching in an effort to rise up and bite the Giant Dwarf again!

Cunning Fox also took to heart the warning from Ollie Gory as he moved 10 feet backwards in front of his stockpile of Extra Weapons!

The Native American Cleric was anticipating the need for more Arrows as he selected two to eliminate the Unconscious twitching Ants on the first row!

His first Arrow found its mark in Ant 3 row 1 with just enough damage to inflict Mortal Wounds! [This Giant Ant will Die in 3 more rounds!]

Ant 2 row 1 was struck in the right side by his second Arrow, but it remained twitching with the threat of rising again as the Arrow merely inflicted half the potential damage!

Initiative for Turn 1 Combat Round 5 has rolled in favor of the Giant Ants!

..... as I think it was Almerin who mentioned that his games required the party members staying together instead of splitting up?

Anyway, before I post I wanted to mention that in character Loco has dealt with a tragedy while on a rescue mission many years ago that ended up driving him into seclusion in the Caves of Madness!

His best friend was killed as a result of plunging head long in the direction of just such a scream while they were trailing the abductors of some other children!

Loco will voice the need for following the path, but maybe or maybe not mention the death of his friend as to why he does not think running after the scream is the most sensible thing to do!

He will reluctantly follow the group if it is decided to go running in the direction of the scream!

[Only because I think Almerin said the group must stay together in his game!]

Loco remembers how his friend was killed in a trap after running in the direction of just such a scream!

Opens some avenues for further role play for my character!

Need some proper feedback before I post in game!

Thanks!

Ant 1 row 4 managed to inflict one third the damage dealing potential upon Fighter #2 as it momentarily inflicted pain in his left forearm, but Ant 2 row 4 was unable to strike the agile Fighter!

Fighter #3 eluded Ant 3 row 4, although Ant 2 row 3 managed a minimum damage bite on the left side of his face!

Fighter #4 also eluded Ants 2 and 3 from row 5, although Ant 4 row 1 nearly nipped his nose in the process!

Fighter #5 took a minimum damage dealing bite to the right side of his head from Ant 4 row 5, but easily eluded Ant 3 row 2 as he staggered back in surprise from the bite!

Fighters #6, #7 and #8 had no trouble keeping themselves from harm! Although Fighter #7 had to twist and turn to keep Ant 3 row 3 from nipping his nose!

Fighter #1 seized his advantage against Ant 1 row 3 that had unexpectedly fallen before him! The power of his Two Handed Axe brought the Giant Ant to the threshold of Death’s Door!

Fighter #2 split the skull of Ant 1 row 1 to end its menace forever!

Fighter #3 did likewise against Ant 2 row 1 as did Fighter #4 against Ant 4 row 1 as their blades struck deep and true!

Fighter #5 swung his Two Handed Axe with such force into Ant 4 row 5 that its right side caved in as it crumpled to the Dark Arena sands Unconscious with Grievous Wounds!

Fighter #6 also rendered Ant 4 row 2 Unconscious with Grievous Wounds!

Ant 3 row 3 fell Unconscious to the Dark Arena sands as Fighter #7 connected with a savage blow to its right side!

Fighter #8 fared a bit better as Ant 5 row 2 fell to the Dark Arena sands Unconscious with Grievous Wounds!

The Human Fighters are facing 13 Giant Ants that have not suffered any damage! 5 others are Dead and Ant 2 row 4 is still able to attack the Fighters!
