Arena Infirmary
Four and Three Quarter Hours before Twilight

Xira reaches over one side of her bed and pulls forth the newly wrapped Death Scythe. As it is not being used in battle, its black aura doesn't appear to ruin its wrappings, but it can still be felt.

"You'll want this I assume?" Xira asks, her voice icy yet dry, "A trophy for defeating me?"

"And What Makes You Think That I Demand Your Weapon ... For A Trophy?"

Manalagna Hammer eyes Xira suspiciously ... desiring to know more about the Death Scythe ... than Xira seems to be willing to give up so easily.

"The Trophies I Collect ... Always Have A History ... And A Song For Bards To Sing ... So Again I Ask ... How Did You Get This ... Death Scythe ... And What Exactly Is It Like ... When You Use It ... And How Long Have You Been Using The Death Scythe ...And Why Are You So Willing To Surrender It To Me Now?"

Manalagna Hammer waits for a response ... and hopefully ... an explanation ... before asking:

"What Else Do You Have To Offer Me For Defeating You?"

"No Place for a Lady!"

Then anticipating what type of rhetorical response Septimus would make in reply ... the Mercenary added:

"No Place for a Family ... Either!"

Rex cradled his whip and gently placed Whoa Nellie in her proper place with the rest of his family ... then headed for a nearby alley ... throwing a quick ... but furtive glance ... back towards Septimus as he spoke briskly:

"We Need to Make Ourselves Scarce ... and find your Lady Evani ... before she gets herself into Trouble!"

Manalagna Hammer politely excuses himself and informs Fahinn that he plans to journey to Wanqir instead of defending his championship title in the arena.

He makes his way to the infirmary to visit with Xira, carrying his bag of gold coins and his broken scimitar.

After bowing to Xira and praising her for the difficult time he had in defeating her, Manalagna Hammer asks:

"Would you kindly tell me the tale of the Black Scythe ... or the Death Scythe ... as some would say?"

Subject: Trying To Alert Ixion

Manuhol swings wide and scouts the immediate area. He finds several more of the strange mound-holes ... There are five around the corral and three more in the foliage amidst the ruins. to be honest, Ixion saw them too, but Manuhol noticed the glint of blue coming from just inside them. Their sentries are posted within the tunnel entrances.

"Guide Me ... Oh My Master!"

Manuhol the Monk breathed the prayer as he studied the blue glints within the mounds ... trying to decide how to alert his comrades!

Slowly he makes himself visible to the line of sight of Ixion as he grips his QuarterStaff in his right hand and points to each of the mounds ... while gesturing with his left hand moving up and down between his knee and his hip ... then crouching and looking up while moving his left hand back and forth over his head ... before slowly moving back to conceal his presence once more ... as he silently whispers another prayer!

"Oh Great Seifu ... Grant That Ixion Has Sense Enough To Realize The Kobold Sentries Are Hiding Inside The Mounds!"

Manuhol plans to stay concealed to ambush the unsuspecting Kobolds once Ixion makes the move to attack the Kobolds. His guess is that Ixion will choose a plan of action, rather than just sit and wait very much longer!

Fonhinqann
Gladiator Arena Main Office
Five Hours before Twilight

As soon as Manalagna enters the office, Fahinn looks up with a smile and says, "Perfect, just the person I wanted to see."

Looking directly into Manalagna's eyes, Fahinn says, "Well, now you've seen exactly what that Death Scythe Xira has is capable of, not only against the one it is wielded against, but also against the wielder."

Fahinn sighs, "That scythe gives a lot of pain, a large cost, but for what benefit? My old eyes have seen none. That weapon... should really be destroyed."

"Oh, I am sorry." Fahinn says, "You're probably getting tired of hearing about Xira's scythe by now, and you probably have other questions for me, do you not?"

These are the questions Manalagna Hammer asks Fahinn:

"Am I free to go my own way?"

"What becomes of the arena now that Xira has been defeated?"

"Where is the nearest city to seek adventure?"

"What will happen to Xira now that she has been defeated?"

"Can Xira be fully restored from the effects of the Black Scythe?"

"Where did that Black Scythe come from?"

"How did Xira get possession ... or get possessed ... by the Black Scythe?"

"How do you propose to destroy the Black Scythe?"

"Do you know of any way my Flaming Scimitar can be restored ... or replaced?"

"Is there anything I can do to help Xira recover?"

"May I talk to Xira before I leave?"

Fonhinqann

Ken takes the offered hand in an overwhelming grip and even embrace, "Ha ha! Well, you should go see Xira, just so she can offer you that Death Scythe. I personally don't recommend taking it; you can see how it can far shorten anyone's life expectancy. Xira is probably not going to be recovered until after an hour or so, but I imagine Fahinn will want to talk to you regarding that scythe. I imagine he's back in his office already, since his healing is only needed to cure the worst of the fallen's wounds; generally the other clerics are more than capable of healing most fallen warriors here."

"Sounds Like Good Advice!"

Manalagna Hammer gave a courteous bow of honorable recognition to Ken as an expression of his thanks and gathering up his broken Flaming Scimitar and the generous bag of gold coins, the Dwarven Druid made a beeline to Fahinn's office!

After the courteous exchange of conversation Manalagna Hammer will enquire about Xira's condition and ask Fahinn about the Black Scythe and fate of the defeated Xira, plus the fate of himself as the victor!

... unknown to everyone but Rex a group of 5 men enter the bar, all in blue cloaks, the leader points at Septimus and the man next to him draws out a crossbow and starts to take careful aim. All this seen by Rex and no one else, and Rex is helpless to stop it. The next moment the bar door swings nosily open and a small group of 3 sailors barges in making a lot of noise, everyone looks around as one of them jogs the man with the crossbow, the bolt flies loose and embeds into the back of a man sitting at a table, he dies, a fight starts, only a few at first but more and more people get dragged in as they draw swords and axes and daggers and picks.

Although he was helpless to stop it, Rex the Reckless knew exactly how to respond to the unknown assailants that were obviously there to end Septimus Sandalwood's life!

Flinging each of his whiskey bottles towards the back of the room ... targeting no one in particular ... but using the bottles as a means to get more patrons lashing out against one another ... to provide enough of a diversion for the Mercenary to escort his family away from the obvious danger ... while exiting the tavern with minimal injury to either himself ... his family ... lady Evani ... and especially the man with a bullseye on his back ... Septimus Sandalwood ... Rex the Rexless sprang into action!

He had chosen the table with the wall at his back for this very reason! Turning the table over and kicking a chair out of the way ... Rex the Reckless withdrew his Whip and began cracking his way towards the doorway!

"Whoa Nellie! You Make Such Sweet Music In My Ears!"

Rex reached for Evani and holding onto her arm with his left hand he cracked the Whip repeatedly against the Blue Coats to keep them at bay as they attempt to unexpectedly make their escape!

Swiftly turning a sideways glance towards Evani with eyes filling with a bloodlust rage ... Rex the Reckless implored:

"If You Value Your Life ... Get Out Of Here ... NOW!"

He stands between the Blue Coats and the doorway ... allowing Evani to make a break for the relative safety of the street outside ... hoping that the Blue Coats were either too stupid ... or too sure of themselves ... to leave anyone outside to prevent Septimus from escaping their deadly trap!

Another crack of the Whip to disperse and/or disarm the Blue Coats accentuates the Mercenary's next words directed to Septimus Sandalwood:

"No Time For Any More Heroics! Time To Clear Out Of Here! Live To Fight Another Day!"

Rex cracks the Whip one more time before exiting the Death Trap ... making sure lady Evani is relatively safe ... relying on Septimus Sandalwood to follow them out the door ... instead of fighting a Lost Cause ... and that Septimus will bow to his strategic instincts and lead them to a safer place to plan their next move in solving the mystery that Shaben dumped in their laps!

The dwarf had quite a task ahead of him. He would have to push his way over to the edge of the boat to get to an angle where he wouldn't light the crew on fire. At least, that was what he thought. As he approached the crew and pirates gave him a wide birth and he walked over to the rail of his boat rather easily. A careful look at the other ship, however, revealed it was a good distance away, and he realized his spell wouldn't reach. At best he could burn the ropes, but they would likely be wet with sea-spray and not light well. He'd have to come up with another plan.

BrewStirr Hammer noticed that the pirates made a wide berth when he approached, so he made his way across the deck in search of his other companions.

Then he noticed Jon laying on the deck of the ship and the Dwarf quickly sprang into action by unleashing a RAY OF FROST against the nearest group of pirates to buy himself some time to help his stricken comrade.

BrewStirr Hammer makes his way over to Jon to see if he is still alive and tries to protect him and help him any way possible!

Five Hours before Twilight

The crowd roars with applause, and Ken can be heard shouting "IT'S OVER!"

However, Ken's words are not the most important, as running towards Xira is a medical group, including none other than Fahinn. They quickly douse Xira's armour with a Create Water spell, and take her away in a stretcher, with Fahinn remaining behind for a moment.

"I'm glad you survived." Fahinn murmurs, and bestows a Heal spell upon Manalagna, restoring all his vigor.

Fahinn excuses himself and runs after the others. Ken then appears, having jumped down from his perch.

"Behold the victor!" Ken bellows, and having retrieved his sword, he points it at Manalagna, as if there were any question of who won, "And now, behold the victor's spoils!"

Ken slams the ornate greatsword into the ground, and the ground rumbles slightly, the white array already vanishing with Xira off of the field. A table of sand forms in front of Manalagna, and from within pops out a hefty sack of coins. Even though Manalagna can't count them right away, he can tell all two thousand golden coins are there. The crowd, satisfied with watching, begins to thin. Surprisingly quickly, only Manalagna and Ken are left in the arena grounds.

"Not too bad for nearly losing my life in the arena! Any chance that Tenarr has the ability to restore my Flaming Scimitar?"

Manalagna Hammer was staring at the generous bag of golden coins as he directed his conversation towards the Charismatic Orc Announcer ... as he and Ken were the only ones remaining in the arena.

The Dwarven Druid extended his right hand upwards towards Ken in a gesture of genuine friendship and greeting ... his blazing red eyes focusing upwards towards Ken as he asked:

"So ... My Friend ... What Now?"

Rex held the bottle of whiskey to his lips with his left hand ... slowly setting the other bottle on the table as he watched Evani work the bartender ... keeping alert in case Septimus failed to give her the necessary room to utilize her obvious charms ...

"Don't be a fool ... Septimus!"

The Mercenary pushed the bottle into his mouth as he spoke the words into the bottle ... without moving his lips ... or missing a gratifying swallow of his whiskey ...

Rex slowly withdrew the bottle from his mouth as he observed Septimus refraining from acting like the jealous boyfriend ... or husband ... or star crossed lover ... as Evani concentrated her talents upon the bartender ...

For a mere fleeting moment Rex thought about inviting Septimus over to his table ... but with another casual look around the interior of the dark dive ... the Mercenary decided that such an action may possibly be a premature move ... no telling who was watching ... or waiting for an excuse to pick a fight ... and his family was resting so peacefully at the moment ... so Rex the Reckless decided to continue sipping his whiskey ... as the drama unfolded between Evani and the bartender ...

Manuhol surveyed the scene and weighed the choices of action as each person voiced their decision in regards to pressing the attack against the Kobolds and returning the cattle unharmed to their owners.

Someone would have to make their way to the other side of the corral to either detect any unseen escape routes or merely to cut off a way of escape if the Kobolds chose to abandon their underground hideaway.

Besides, someone would have to guard the rear once the cattle were secured and herded back to the townsfolk.

Might as well be Manuhol the Monk while he still had the option of any type of choice in the matter.

"I will circle around wide to the right and look for any signs of other escape routes until I position myself directly on the other side of the cattle corral. No sense letting any of those Kobolds get away after all the trouble we have taken to find them!"

Manuhol the Monk silently makes his way to the right in a wide circular route to position himself behind the corral directly across from the place where the group of adventurers are currently making plans to attack the Kobolds. He will use his special talents to search the area for any signs of escape routes or anything else out of the ordinary and he will wait to ambush any unsuspecting or fleeing Kobolds once his companions launch their attacks on the Kobold stronghold.
