Sure No Problem

EDIT: It may take me a day or two to write something up, but Dok is able to speak Elvish in spite of his Dwarven accentuations, so if Nomad wants to write that into his next DM Post that is okay with me!

Dok will endeavor to get to know what is troubling the Elf & will also share some of his backstory for a common bond

“Next Please!”

All eyes were on the beautiful brunette as she stepped forward towards the audition stage.

“Name Please?”

“Marigold … Myriem … Marigold.”

“Name of Your Band Please?”

“The Rag Tag Band.”

“Are They All Here?”

“Not Today,” came the confident reply. “One of our Key Players is currently Detained. He is Locked Into a Contract that We are Breaking Him Out From!”

Myriem coolly, but confidently, tossed her head at the speechless interviewer.

“We have many interchangeable parts,” she continued. “We have several singers and musicians that play when they are available. We started out as what you would call a garage band in London years ago and toured around clubs and military bases all over Europe, before we broke up.”

The stage manager looked at Myriem curiously, before drawing a deep breath to keep from staring at her obvious assets.

“Our House Band has tendered their resignation,” he began to explain. “Seems some new recording studio from upstate or out-of-state signed them to a new gig. They must relocate to California by the end of next month for an opportunity of a lifetime!”

Myriem merely smiled.

“This is kind of a rough neighborhood at times,” the stage manager explained. “We need another House Band to keep the Hippie Haven from slowly going out of business!”

“Like I said earlier,” Myriem smiled and tossed her head nonchalantly, “we are the Rag Tag Band and we have many interchangeable parts! We even provide our own security!”

“I Do Not Think We Can Afford Paying Your Security!”

“Actually,” Myriem smiled broadly. “We all have some money tucked away, so we can work out an arrangement to help your establishment get back on its feet and flourish like never before!”

“I Have Not Hired Your Band Yet!”

Myriem smiled and reached for a microphone.

“What did you say your name was again?”

“Myriem … but you can just call me … Groupie!”

“Where Is Your Other Band Members?”

“Gunther is the only one who came with me today,” Myriem smiled coyly. “Gunther will play the acoustic guitar for our audition … but you can call him Roadie!

Gunny began to play his acoustic guitar as Myriem took center stage and began to sing an oldie but a goodie that had the small audience spellbound.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XsS9NJ36tnQ

As the thunderous applause began to drown out any further conversation, the stage manager bellowed:“You and Your Rag Tag Band are Hired Effective Immediately!”

“Some of our group will be here tonight with much more than just acoustic guitars!” exclaimed Myriem. “The rest of us will be here as soon as possible!”

“Splendid! Splendid!”

Preston Smith reached the apex of another prodigious leap, as the voice of his best friend, Delbert ‘Dweeb’ Watkins, crackled in his ear-piece:

“Myriem and Gunny will meet you at the extraction point near the Recording Studio!”

“Getting an increasing surge of electromagnetic disturbance inside my body!”

“How do you know?” asked Dweeb.

“Got that itchy-crawly feeling under my skin!” was the familiar reply.

Dweeb took note and let out a loud whistle that seemed to pierce the inside of the helmet that Preston Smith was wearing.

“What Now?”

“Your last jump covered four miles!”

“You still tracking me?”

“Yes Sir!”

“What Do You See?”

“Looks like your next leap will take you through a thunderstorm!”

Preston Smith responded rather cheerily:

“Guess I Better Introduce Myself to the Thunderstorm!”

Preston Smith made another prodigious leap towards the dark and gloomy sky, as lightning flashed on the horizon, Preston could see a rainbow off in the distance, as he broke forth into another song to help entertain his friend Dweeb:

Topic: Characters in Scyon City
Subject: Disturbance

Real Name: Preston Smith

Identity: Unknown

Occupation: Former Black Ops Operative [came back off 'retirement' grid due to assassination attempt]

Known Relatives: Unknown

Base of Operations: Unknown Secret Base

Age: 35

Height: 6'4"

Weight: 230

Hair: Black

Eyes: green (r), blue (l)

Background: Preston Smith was born and raised in Mercy, Michigan and had a love for the outdoors in this fictitious upper lower peninsula town. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing sports.

He was an avid reader of comic books and some science fiction. He also was active in the high school Drama Club and a local Theater Group and became quite an accomplished Thespian.

His best friend, ironically, was Delbert 'Dweeb' Watkins. A sickly, emaciated type who could not participate in sports, but served as the equipment manager and became the focal point of torment from the other high school jocks.

Preston stood up for him and they became fast friends, especially for their shared interest in comic books and Drama. Dweeb was also gifted in Computer Sciences and able to hack and develop software, hardware and even servers etc.

Raised by his grandfather, because his parents were secret agents in some unknown government black op and rarely home, Preston was well to do because his grandparents on both sides of the family had set up trust funds that provided payments for his education beginning at age 17.

At the age of 18 he enrolled at Bayview University (another fictitious Michigan place) to pursue a Journalism and Coaching Career. However, he soon gravitated to immersing himself in Drama and emerged as a budding stage actor, winning several Thespian Honors.

This, along with his Journalism Career, plus his desire for coaching found him gravitating to the college Fencing Squad (he walked away from the other sports because even in college Dweeb was picked on, so Dweeb and Preston settled into the Fencing Squad as equipment manager and Fencing Athlete respectively) and Preston became quite accomplished with fencing skills. So much so, that he traveled with both the college Drama and Fencing clubs.

He won several million dollars in a state lottery at the age of 19 and although immersed in the Drama and Fencing Squads, Preston was soon hounded by his so called friends due to winning the lottery.

His girlfriend/fiancee accused him of being 'cheap' when he proposed to her and offered her a 10 thousand dollar engagement ring. The only person who did not seem to want to be his friend because of the money was his friend Dweeb.

Therefore, he decided to let Dweeb secretly invest 30 million dollars of his winnings, while he went on a partying spree, during his last tour of Europe with the Drama and Fencing Squads.

After he was spurned by his girlfriend, Preston dropped out of school and back packed around Europe and also went to Asia for a period of two and a half years to 'find himself' and also to fence with various sword masters he had the honor of meeting in his travels.

He also was introduced to a variety of hand guns and in his travels would have the good fortune to be invited to shoot various weapons (hand guns and rifles) with his numerous hosts during his travels.

He was even exposed to the use of demolition weapons, but was not a complete expert in this area.

Upon returning to Michigan, he was greeted by the news from his grandfather of his parents tragic death in a mysterious automobile accident somewhere in London. Dweeb was also failing in health, but continued to secretly invest the lottery winnings, although he was now confined to getting around with the aid of crutches and sometimes a wheel chair.

Preston decided to go to London to find out what happened to his parents. It was at this time that he took up drumming for a local rock n roll garage band. He also got involved with a local Theater Group, where he met Myriem Foster.

The band began to get gigs and developed a following. One of the roadies for the band was named Gunther 'Gunny' Morgan.

Within six months Preston discovered that both Myriem and Gunny were in the employ of the same government black ops that his parents had been serving as secret agents. Myriem and Gunny inform him that his parents were executed by some rogue operative mole that they were trying to find.

He found this out after the government black ops representative approached him to carry on the work that his parents had been involved with for years. Through this training, he becomes adept at codes and other talents required for the job.

Myriem was an accomplished master of disguise, hand to hand combat fighter, plus knowledgeable in scientific work that gave her access to the secret laboratories within the black ops operation. Preston and Myriem became passionate lovers.

Gunny was also an accomplished fighter, especially with a variety of weapons and also an expert in explosives and other talents necessary for the job.

Preston was found to be useful as the drummer of the rock n roll band and also the Theater Troop as they would travel around the United Kingdom and parts of Europe. This gave him inroads for a cover for espionage and assassinations over the next few years.

He could party and infiltrate groups who wanted to be close associates with the band members or actors and actresses. Preston used his skills well to get information and terminate targets when called upon to do so.

He also was employed as a Journalist to cover the Rock Scene and also a variety of Sporting and sometimes Political Events. His abilities to work with both Myriem and Gunny with disguises etc brought them in contact with various unsavory characters, terrorists etc.

They were called back to the States when Home Land Security needed secret operatives to help monitor terrorists activities within the borders of the United States.

Preston and Gunny made the rounds of the various Illegal Cage Fighting circuits in several big cities from the East Coast to the West Coast and down in New Orleans.

Preston was then ordered to investigate a variety of religious organizations within the borders of the United States and possible terrorist ties to their works overseas.

He worked his way into one particular organization and fell in love with a lovely young woman whose devotion to The Bible and Jesus made him examine his wicked ways.

Preston fell off the grid when he gave his heart to Jesus and went on a 2 year mission trip to the Philippines with his young love, who he had married.

They returned to the States and traveled together holding tent revivals all across the United States. In one such meeting, the emaciated Dweeb came forward for prayer and got healed. This gave Preston the opportunity to have a secret meeting with his old friend, who informed him that he had kept track of him with his computer skills, and that his life was in danger from some unknown source.

Within a few weeks, when Preston was preaching at the tent revival, he spotted both Myriem and Gunny in the crowd. Myriem was pointing to someone when a bomb blast exploded beneath the stage, injuring Preston and killing his wife.

When Preston awakens, he is in custody within an underground secret facility. He recovers from his wounds, but his mental state is all fractured.

Most of his conversations include passages of scripture, lyrics from Rolling Stones songs or quotes from Shakespeare plays.

Thus, his own self reference to the lyrics from the Rolling Stones song Street Fighting Man:

“My Name is Called Disturbance!”

Myriem is in the facility and discovers that the seemingly random references to scripture, Stones lyrics and Shakespeare quotes are some type of code that Preston uses to reach out to those he can trust.

She helps him escape and teams up with Gunny and they somehow get connected with Dweeb, now fully healed, but who likes to use a wheel chair with a variety of weapon and computer armaments.

They have set up a secret headquarters together, now determined to find out who ordered the hit on Preston that killed his wife, while investigating the corruption of the black ops organization they were employed by, seeking to find the identity of the rogue operative who murdered Preston's parents.

Disturbance Code Names

Rocker is his Code Name for when he was under cover as a Rock N Roll Singer and especially singing Rolling Stones songs. If he is referred to as Rocker, even by Dweeb or Myriem or Gunny or anyone from his past, his reply is: ‘My Name Is Called Disturbance!”

Thespian is his Code Name for when he was under cover in a theatre troupe. His specialty was Shakespeare and often quotes Shakespeare or sometimes other theatrical or movie lines, but mainly Shakespeare.

Preacher is his Code Name for when he was under cover as a Preacher during his stint under cover with Homeland Security. He often quotes Scriptures or begins Preaching when this personae takes over.

Flynn is his Code Name for when he was under cover as a Fencer. Flamboyant like Errol Flynn and often quotes fencing or sword play terms or sentences. If he does not have an actual sword in his hands, like when incarcerated as a Detainee, his actions will be as a person actually swinging a sword in a sword fight or sword fight training. Look out if he gets his hands on a broom handle or a pipe or an actual sword, because he can be deadly with such a weapon!

Earp is his Code Name for when he was under cover in a Wild West Show, an extension of the Theatrical Troupe, as well as when he was gaining a reputation in the Secret Agency as a Hand Gun Expert from his time spent learning to be a gun-shooting marksman expert while traveling in Europe. As with the Sword Fighting, he will act out gunfights with imaginary guns, but woe to the person who allows him to disarm a guard of their firearms, because death will surely follow!

Further Note He may also have had a Code Name as Brawler for his prowess as an Under Ground Cage Fighter, when he was under cover in seedier parts of the cities where he was sent to spy or eliminate a Target for the Secret Agency, which would also make his a dangerous foe in close quarters!

Orator is another Code Name connected with his Theatre Troupe Under Cover Days! This is where he makes speeches or recites poems like ‘Charge of the Light Brigade’ that would be spoken in Theatre settings! Things like the Gettysburg Address etc.

Topic: Blacktooth Ridge
Subject: Botkinburg At Last

It had been a long journey, but thankfully, there had not been any dangerous encounters along the way, which was fine with the Cleric of Helm the God of Protection. He had hired on as a Healer and Protector for the caravan of merchants and settlers, but only a few minor ailments had required his attention.

“What is your name?” was the oft-asked question, as the Cleric of Helm made his rounds along the way, followed by his simple reply:

“Dok.”

“No,” was the usual answer. “What is your name?”

“Dok.”

“I know you are a healer,” was the next response, followed by, “healing is what a doc does!”

“Dok,” the dwarf Cleric of Helm would respond with a grin, “D-o-k is really my name.”

His spelling out his name was usually followed by quizzical looks with spontaneous laughter. Many times it served as an ice-breaker to further conversation, because the dwarf Cleric did not go out of his way to socialize, especially when he was hired to heal and to protect. He spent much of his time communing with his deity, unless he was called upon to make further conversation.

He was especially the object of infatuation by the small number of children riding in the caravan. Many of them were taller than the four-foot dwarf, but none of them had either the long hair nor the long beard that the 60-year-young dwarf had managed to cultivate over time.

Dok had grown attached to this caravan of merchants and settlers, especially the children, but he knew this chapter of his life was coming to a close, as shouts of “Botkinburg!” were heard as the caravan emerged from the dense vegetation, along and above the road, into a broad clearing where the twin towers of a keep atop a hill could be seen glistening in the sunlight from afar.

Once the caravan was settled on a hill that served as the village greens, the seven adventurers made their way to the Bent Hook to unwind with good food, good drink and good friends.

In a few minutes they had learned the following:

“The keep is ruled by Lord Clement Botkin, but he has grown old and most of the actual ‘ruling’ seems to be done by his grandson.”

“Goblin raids from the Ridge have been growing more frequently lately.”

“Recently two young men, the Molkin twins, had disappeared.”

This was the information quickly gleaned by the seven comrades-in-arms, as they dined on a fine home-cooked meal and drained their ale tankards more than once or twice.

Upon finishing his meal, Dok excused himself from the table; informing Hornet, Steel, Soledad, Silver, Ewyn and Thaoran that he would be bedding down underneath his wagon post for one last night and that he would rejoin the party after his morning devotions.

The Cleric of Helm made it a point to speak with the halflings who were sitting at the table near the front windows, hoping to glean some further information regarding either fact or rumors about what had transpired around the town and the Blacktooth Ridge in particular.

((OOC: I will rely on Nomad D2 to report any further information from the halflings in his next post.))

Dok slowly made his way towards the caravan, calling upon Helm to grant him favor with any of the town folk who he may encounter as he leisurely strolled in the evening air.

((OOC: Again, I will rely on Nomad D2 to provide any further information that Dok may gather.))

The Cleric of Helm made it a point to stop by the halfling tavern, greeting any of the patrons who may be willing to divulge any secrets or factual rumors regarding the Blacktooth Ridge.

((OOC: Yet again, I will rely on Nomad D2 to provide any findings that Dok may gather.))

Dok did not stay long at the halfling tavern, because he wanted to say his goodbyes to the settlers and children who were journeying beyond Botkinburg. He wanted them to feel safe in their new surroundings and he wanted them to rest assured that their healer and protector was on guard.

The next morning, Dok said his goodbyes and broke bread when it was offered. Then after gathering all of his belongings, he found a somewhat secluded place of solitude where the Cleric of Helm could meditate and pray without being disturbed, making sure that his spells would be ready, should they be needed before the day was done.

((OOC: These are the Same Spells that I sent to Nomad D2 in a Personal Message the other day!))

Dok made it a point to visit the sheriff’s office, enquiring about the missing Molkin twins, plus gathering any information about the strange occurrences happening around Botkinburg and especially any facts or rumors about what had been transpiring around the Blacktooth Ridge, including if any other adventurers had been hired to investigate the environs of the Blacktooth Ridge?

((OOC: Again, relying upon Nomad D2 to provide any info in his next post.))

Once Dok was satisfied that he had gathered as much information as possible; he made his way back to his companions, greeting any other town folk who may be willing to share information regarding facts or rumors, so that the Cleric of Helm could share what he had learned, before his companions settled upon an immediate course of action, regarding journeying into the maw of the Blacktooth Ridge!

Cleric will probably glean information at the Inn before returning to the Caravan to spend one more night under a Wagon to fulfill his sense of duty, while getting any info from anyone he meets along the way, allowing him to do his Morning Prayers privately before returning to the group & gathering any intel along the way!

Subject: Partly Answered

Recently something seems to have stirred up the creatures of the Ridge and they have experienced a series of goblin raids.  Messages have been sent out seeking adventurers willing to search the ridge and discover the source of these new raids and put an end to them.  You have arrived in Botkinburg in response to this summons and now find yourself at the town’s tavern:  The Bent Hook, known locally as Ortolf’s House of Sludge.

So I read the opening post & the last paragraph (above) seems to answer that the messages were for investigating Raids & that was before the disappearance of the Twins!

Myriem was all excited to tell Gunny the good news, once they were in a safe and secluded enclave, safe from prying eyes and listening ears.

“Preston spoke to me in code!”

“What did he say?”

“He sang some lyrics from one of our old code songs!”

“What was the code message?” asked Gunny as he hung on every breathless word that Myriem could manage to convey through her excitement.

“I saw her today at the reception!” exclaimed Myriem.

“That means he saw the agent at the Tent Revival,” deciphered Gunny.

“In her glass was a bleeding man!”

“That means he saw she had a bomb in her hand.”

“She was practiced in the art of deception!

“Well I could tell by her blood-stained hands!”

“He Knows Who She Is!” exclaimed Gunny.

The same white lab coats were all huddled around the seemingly immobilized Preston Smith in an effort to engage him in any kind of conversation that would enlighten them as to the true condition of the incarcerated agent, but Preston merely displayed a tight-lipped smile.

These white lab coats had finally determined that pumping their subject full of various drugs was nothing but a dead-end street, because Preston merely retreated into some unknown realm, enjoying the psychedelic ride without revealing what was going on inside his multi-faceted brain!

They only made headway these past few days when Myriem Foster was allowed to be present in the full view of their subject, which encouraged Preston to engage in some kind of conversation that the white lab coats were frantically trying to decipher … to make some sort of clinical sense to their scientific minds, but they were failing miserably in every attempt they made these past few days!

Finally, the white lab coats stepped back in frustration, encouraging Myriem Foster to make contact with Preston in her own seemingly peculiar way. Her first attempt this day was met with success!

“Thespian … this is Juliette … Hamlet is standing by!”

“Lord, what fools these mortals be!” exclaimed Preston as he quoted a familiar line from the classic theatre. [‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ Act 1, Scene 1]

“Splendid. Just Splendid Ms Foster,” was the response from an over-eager white lab coat who drew too close to Preston, causing the seemingly immobilized subject to glare at the white lab coat with disdain!

“If you prick us, do we not bleed? If you tickle us, do we not laugh? If you poison us, do we not die? And if you wrong us, shall we not revenge?” [‘The Merchant of Venice’ Act 3, Scene 1]

This unexpected response caused the white lab coat to retreat from the perceived threat that was strapped to the table.

Myriem drew closer to Preston with a knowing look in her eyes … her hand instinctively reaching out to warmly touch his hand.

“The course of true love never did run smooth.” [‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ Act 1, Scene 1]

Myriem started to say something, but held her peace.

“I am one who loved not wisely but too well.” [‘Othello’ Act 5, Scene 2]

Myriem leaned forward and began whispering a response to Preston that only he could hear.

“The lady doth protest too much, methinks.” [‘Hamlet’ Act 3, Scene 2]

Another one of the white lab coats grew impatient with the proceedings, stepping forward with a scowl as he began berating the seemingly meaningless conversation between the two lovers.

Focusing his attention back to the white lab coats and this intruder in particular, the Thespian code name retorted:

“All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players. They have their exits and their entrances; And one man in his time plays many parts.” [‘As You Like It’ Act 2, Scene 7]

All the white lab coats began murmuring among themselves, as the Thespian code-name personae called out to them in derision: “Now is the winter of our discontent.” [‘Richard III’ Act 1, Scene 1]

The white lab coats stopped their conversing and glared at Preston and Myriem holding hands.

Preston merely stared back at them, saying, “Cowards die many times before their deaths; the valiant never taste of death but once.” [‘Julius Caesar’ Acts 2, Scene 2]

Myriem leaned in closer to Preston, before any of the white lab coats could protest her sudden and unexpected movement towards their seemingly subdued subject.

“Preston our ‘Rock Manager’ says ‘The Rag Tag Band’ is back together again and he has secured a new ‘Recording Studio’ to start making some music together!”

Although Preston realized the implication of her words, he merely responded, “If music be the food of love play on.” [‘Twelfth Night’ Act 1, Scene 1]

One of the white lab coats stepped forward, but not too close to the two lovers, before admonishing rather sternly to Myriem to “Kindly Step Away From Our Subject Please!”

Myriem looked to Preston for any indication that he understood what she had spoken to him in code.

His only response being, “Get thee to a nunnery.” [‘Hamlet’ Act 3, Scene 1]

Refusing to acknowledge either the response of Preston or the orders from the whiter lab coats, Myriem Foster rushed back to the seemingly secure subject on the lab table, blurting out to her lover:

“Rocker … this is Groupie … Roadie is standing by”

Preston could see one of the white lab coats getting more fidgety by the second, while another one opened the door and motioned for security personnel to enter the lab to take charge of the situation!

“Beware the Ides of March.” [‘Julius Caesar’ Act 1, Scene 2]

Myriem took her cue from the spoken code, but managed to whisper to her lover, “Roadie has all the equipment ready for our next gig!”

The white lab coats had seen enough, motioning for security to remove Myriem from the lab!

“Cry ‘havoc!’ and let slip the dogs of war!” [‘Julius Caesar’ Act 3, Scene 1]

Preston began struggling with his bonds as the security guards tried to force Myriem from the lab against her consent, while the white lab coats tried to respond to their struggling subject with various outcries of what to do!

In the midst of the confusion, Myriem began singing her distress code, in hopes of reaching Rocker to activate his powers!

One of the white lab coats rushed forward to restrain the struggling subject, mouthing words to the effect of: “Now Preston … or Thespian … or Who Ever You Are …”

But his words were drowned out by a shout from the seemingly restrained subject:

“MY NAME IS CALLED DISTURBANCE!” … almost simultaneously in unison with the sounds of an explosion in the middle of a wall at the far end of the lab!

I am researching the Spells to give you the Final List

Dok was on his way to Botkinburg via a Wagon Caravan of Merchants & Settlers as a Hired Healer & Protector after he was praying to Helm the God of Protection & he heard an audible voice say, "Botkinburg."

Looking forward to seeing how you write him into the Opening Post this weekend.

EDIT: Spell List sent to Nomad D2
