Subject: Also of note

A Paladin can lose his special status either temporarily or permanently if he is controlled by enchantment or willingly and knowingly commits an evil act during the course of the adventure!

He can be restored by doing a special penance, but by willingly doing evil he is forever stripped of his abilities and reduced to a mere fighter for the rest of his lifetime!

Just something to take note of when making a final decision about where to place everyone in marching orders and guard duty!

Gunther can ride point or protect the end of the line or be positioned wherever you guys feel is best for the party!

Just thought you should consider some things regarding the Paly!

Subject: Aura of Protection

According to the online player handbook the Aura of Protection with a 10' radius for the Paladin also states that within that radius all summoned and specifically evil creatures suffer a -1 penalty to their attack rolls, regardless of whom they attack, which gives credence to the Thief staying within 10' of the Paly in a single file entrance for marching orders!

Subject: Paladin powers to consider

A couple of Paladin powers to consider while the group reaches a decision about marching orders and guard duty!

1. A Paladin can detect evil 60' when actively searching!

2. A Paladin has an Aura of Protection 10' which produces a -1 to all evil rolls!

It is also my understanding that the evil can locate the source of the Aura of Protection! Even if the Paly is disguised or in hiding!

Not sure if that Aura of Protection can help a Thief taking the lead in a single file entrance with the Paly behind him?

My vote is for Darque as spokesperson for the group!

He has answered some of my questions clearly in separate Emails and I have confidence with his experience since I am a True Newbie concerning this type of adventure!

Others in the group are more than capable of doing a fine job, but I have communicated with Darque over the years in the Dueling realm and believe him to be Well Suited for the position!

Yeah I first posted the opening here because I was not sure about whether or not we began posting at the Dungeon and Dragons Thread either before or until after the adventure began.

After I saw The Ancient One had made a post over there I just copied and pasted the storyline from here to there just to make sure until Trip posted a message!

Subject: Gunther the Paladin Intro First posted in Q&A Thread

Gunther had gathered his belongings and staked out a position in the furthest corner of the room where he could quietly pray and observe the assorted cast of characters who were assembling to hear the offer of adventure from the merchant Balarok Hallfar.

Gunther studied each adventurer, mentally taking notes of his observations that would possibly make the difference between life or death once the party had embarked upon their quest.

The Paladin listened intently as Balarok Hallfar made his plea, which was worded more as a declaration to those assembled.

Gunther took note of the seasoned veterans who scowled at the prospect of receiving a mere 50 gold as payment for their services, but the Paladin was unmoved in his resolve to become a member of the party being assembled to investigate the strange happenings in Orlane.

The young Paladin whispered another prayer to his God while the merchant Balarok Hallfar continued describing the situation, climaxed by the declaration of a half payment in gold before the adventurers departed at first light on the morrow with the promise of the balance payment being made upon completion of the quest.

Gunther tucked his bag of newly bought figs inside his tunic and selected his blow gun and a few darts as he rose to walk across the room to the podium to declare his registration.

Halfway across the room the young Paladin paused, leveling his gaze at the remaining adventurers in the room, raised his blow gun to his lips momentarily, then pointed his blow gun towards his belongings in the far corner of the room, sending the message to any thieves in the group that it was much healthier to forage for unattended items elsewhere.

Gunther strode to the podium and in a soft spoken voice meant only for the merchant Balarok Hallfar to hear, declared his intention to join the party that was assembling for the adventure to Orlane.

Upon being handed his 25 gold, the young Paladin selected 5 Gold and instructed the merchant to forward the tithe to a local priest of God.

The merchant protested that the 5 gold was twice the tithe necessary, but Gunther stared him in the eyes and cooly stated that the payment was 50 gold and that Gunther is a Man of Faith who expects to return for the balance of the payment, plus whatever treasure he is able to carry.

Besides, as a Man of Faith, the young Paladin had long ago learned the importance of paying his tithes in advance as a faith tithe for protection against the unseen forces of evil that were sure to be assembled against the gathering party of adventurers, plus to receive the fullness of the blessings of his God during the course of the adventure as he expected by faith to be rewarded with untold treasures for his obedience to his God in the matter of tithing.

As Gunther made his way back across the room to his belongings, he noticed an Elven Ranger [Kyuss Crimsonmoon] and he instinctively withdrew his bag of figs from his tunic and offered the Elf a taste while speaking a few words in an Elvish tongue, then nodded and proceeded to his seat in the far corner of the room.

A few steps further the young Paladin noticed a Dwarf Fighter [Doogan Ironfist] and extended the bag of figs as he gazed intently at the Dwarf Fighter, then with a nod Gunther made his way back to his seat without any further interaction of offering any figs to any other adventurer.

Gunther sat down and put his blow gun in its place as the young Paladin observed who would remain in the room to answer the call to adventure and possibly formulate a plan together before the adventurers retired for the night.

As Gunther surveyed the room once more he noticed the Dwarf Fighter [Doogan Ironfist] eyeing him with a suspicious gaze, but the young Paladin merely raised his Battle Axe with his left hand towards Doogan Ironfist as a sign of respect and nodded to the Dwarf Fighter once again before turning his attention to other matters at hand.

oops I accidently bumped a button and sent that previous message prematurely!

My link to the US and what gets me through the day over here in the Middle East is MLB baseball, hockey and ESPECIALLY My Dueling Friends and Friendly Foes!

This particular collection of Dueling Managers playing a new adventure together is helping me cope with some situations over here like nothing else has in recent memory!

Looking forward to the adventure and thank you one and all for being such vocal friends these past few months!

Gunther is willing to take the point or be stationed wherever is best for the defense and overall good of the party!

Thanks for listening!

Hey Guys

Nice to wake up to a bunch of posts and clarifications!

Glad to know we begin on Tuesday which may be Wednesday my time!

Trip, I just wanted to know when to expect to get started because I am juggling my newspaper duties with Dueling, fantasy baseball teams getting started, fantasy hockey teams in the playoffs and this new adventure!

I will admit that this adventure has me excited more than anything in quite some time!

Better get my TOGS Spot written tonight so I can clear my mind to focus on the adventure!

Forgive my lengthy and numerous posts, but my link to the US from over here in the Middle East comes via MLB

I consider us all Very Fortunate Indeed to have Trip customizing the adventure so all 14 of us are able to participate!

I appreciate all the effort, time and energy that Trip is pouring into this project and I look forward to participating with this fine group of managers from among Alastari's Elite!

Tonight at 8pm Doha time [1pm EDST] I have a Baseball League draft and two more on Sunday at 6am [Saturday at 10pm EDST] and 8:30pm [Sunday at 12:30pm EDST] so that should keep me busy enough while I am waiting for this Trip enhanced adventure to begin!

I will certainly be monitoring the progress of the initial setup procedures and be sure to actively include Gunther in the festivities once all the arrangements are in place to begin our adventure together!

Subject: Question of Clerics

I would hope that you other players would not feel pressured to abandon your first character choice due to a lack of a Cleric for the adventure!

Although I am just beginning to play it would seem to me that switching choices might detract from your enjoyment of this adventure!

However I do realize that if your first character of choice were to die because a healer was unavailable during the course of a battle that you would be bummed out about losing your character!

Part of my original choice for a Paladin was knowing [no matter how very little!] that imparting healing by the laying on of hands was one of the specialties of this type of character!

I am looking forward to this new experience and would hope that everyone is satisfied going into the adventure with the character they have chosen for the war party!

Well I have settled on a Dwarf Cleric and will flesh out a name plus a back story for such a character in case Gunther my Paladin dies during the adventure!

Subject: Would Need a Back Story

Since this is all new to me I would have to be able to concoct a good back story and name to created a Cleric!

I am still going with the Paladin who can use his healing hands once to impart a +2 to the HP of any ailing character or take 1 week to heal a disease!

If he dies I already have a back story and a name for a Wizard character!

None for a cleric at this present time!

Been kicking around some thoughts for a Druid, but coming up with anything for a cleric has eluded me thus far!

From the sounds of things I would play a second game when this one is finished, so the wizard backstory may be reserved for that one!

If my paladin dies then I can come up with something for a back story and name for a cleric to continue with this adventure!
