In the paralyzed condition that had enveloped Manalagana Hammer, the Dwarf Druid was somewhat detached from the piercing of his body and bursting of his heart as the Scout finished its dirty work.

Laying dead so far from home Manalagna wondered with his last fleeting thoughts whether or not those who knew him in the Land of Alastari would be aware of his passing?

What hurt most in his paralyzed state was that whatever mission Hammer had dispatched him to this far away dimensional realm to fulfill had resulted in seemingly total failure!

As the last droplets of conscious thought bled away from his mind in unison with the red blood soaking his garments and the cold ground beneath him ... a faint glow of warm light began filtering through his broken body and psyche!

Mere moments later, Manalagna Hammer found himself sitting up with his compassionate benefactor steadying him as he got reorinted to his surroundings.

He wondered how he had been able to defeat Xira in the arena?
He also realized that he seemed to be of little use to the company he was now keeping!

Had his former arena manager Hammer made a mistake in sending him here?

..... configured last night before I went to sleep, so all I have to do is configure the Monks, Clerics, Fighters and Ollie Gory before typing the 2nd combat round for Turn 2.

I might go ahead and configure the Ants reaction for T2-R2 and put it in the same post and just make it one combined synopsis because the ranks of Active Ants are slowly thinning more and more!

.... as you are number 4 of 8 South Enders and ThunnGarr is number 5, so logically half the group should go East and the other half should go West to attack the Ants.

You are in range of plenty of targets without moving, so I will just go ahead and configure the results as soon as I get a new map [for my own information] completed so I know who and what is where!

My original map is too marked up, so I need to make an updated copy to coordinate efforts and results.

By the way, I counted one of the West End Ants twice in my previous post, so there are actually 19 Ants at the West End menacing the Clerics and 6 are at full strength instead of 7.

Arrows from Cunning Fox and Sir Yder to the West with Ullrich will certainly increase the morale of the Clerics and Bumble Brew will be in position to fry a few with another Lightning Bolt from her staff of power next round.

Fuzzy Wolverine will also be in position to attack an Ant next round.

Amberlyn, Shandra and Ariane are also in range of the Ants threatening the Monks and ThunnGarr will be available next round as he has jogged into position to help them.

It is nearly midnight over here, so I will at least finish my map so I have an updated visual of where the Ants and gladiators are located before I begin configuring results, hopefully in the next couple of days.

One of the buildings?

A Shed or broken wagon or any hay or straw for the horses?

Anything that can cast some light with a proper fire?

..... of the Ants to give you a clearer idea of the present danger to the other gladiators:

North Enders: 3 are still at Full Strength and 3 of the Ants marching from the East are still Above 50% Strength against the 8 Fighters!

West Enders: 6 are still at Full Strength and 4 are still Above 50% Strength against the 7 remaining Clerics!

East Enders: Of the 4 remaining Ants attacking the Monks 3 are still at Full Strength and the other 1 is still Above 50% Strength against the 2 remaining Monks!

Logically Cunning Fox and Sir Yder should be firing upon the West End Ants!

This logic would also apply to Ullrich, but I do realize that he would be in character to first aid the 2 remaining Monks!

Amberlyn, Shandra and Ariane will logically fire Arrows against the East End Ants!

Cunning Fox, Ullrich and Shandra are now able to fire 3 Arrows per round [as long as you have enough in your quiver!]; while Sir Yder, Amberlyn and Ariane can now fire 2 Arrows during each round of battle!

Bumble Brew, the Fuzzy Wolverine and ThunnGarr will have to either jog or run into position on T2-R2 and will be unable to attack any Ants until T2-R3, so the Arrows are essential for R2 to aid the Clerics and Monks!

Each character will be accurate enough under the Dark Arena Dome to hit Ants or other opponents and not endanger the other gladiators with their missile fire!

The Ants from the East End marching away from the Monks figured that the remaining Ants would be able to dispatch the 2 Monks as the Fighters seem to be eliminating their North End counterparts!

Plus, as long as the Fighters are busy fighting Ants at the North End, they will be unable to aid the Clerics at the West End, which is the strategy of the Ants at this particular time!

They did not factor in the South Enders being able to eliminate both the original South End Ants and the reinforcements from the East End so quickly!

..... that ThunnGarr is not using a Long Bow and he can only throw his Dwarven Throwing Hammer a distance of 30 feet, so he has to move up and get in close!

He has a better chance to help the Monks from where he is than he does helping the Clerics, so ...

... he may just run at the Ants to divert their attention while some of you pepper them with your Arrows!

Arrow range from the Long Bow is 110 feet, so you must make sure you are in range!

..... the update for Turn 2 Round 1 is complete and the Gladiators have the Initiative for Round 2.

All Ants in the South End are now eliminated and enough info has been posted in the T2-R1 summary and South Enders results to give you a fair idea of which direction to go!

Bumble Brew is heading West with the Fuzzy Wolverine to help the Clerics and ThunnGarr is heading East to aid the Monks!

Ollie Gory will continue to assist the North Enders!

The Fuzzy Wolverine sensed yet another threat against Bumble Brew coming from the West End and it let out a low growl as it sprang into action!

Running and then leaping onto the back of Ant W5-R1 it raked its claws and then bit deep into the back of the head of its newfound foe, Mortally Wounding the Giant Ant that had dared to threaten Bumble Brew! [Dies on T2-R4]

Bumble Brew shuddered at the ferocity of her guardian as she focused her Staff of Power to unleash yet another Lightning Bolt against the 4 remaining Ants in her line of fire!

She succeeded in unleashing three quarters of the damage dealing potential that she was able to focus with her novice Wizard skills, rendering Ants 1-R4 and 3-R4 Unconscious; drawing first blood damage against the invading Ant E2-R3; while knocking Ant E1-R4 Unconscious with Grievous Wounds!

ThunnGarr the Mighty was now free to focus his attack upon two other Ants, knowing that his teammates would dispatch the Unconscious Ants that had been attacking the Giant Dwarf without mercy!

His Shield of Bashing connected against the face of Ant 4-R4 with such power that the force of the single blow inflicted a Mortal Wound upon his adversary! [Dies on T2-R4]

Then he let his Dwarven Thrower Hammer fly straight and true against Ant 3-R5 that had just attacked from the left side of Shandra mere moments ago! This Ant fell Lifeless to the Dark Arena sands immediately as the Dwarven Thrower Hammer returned to its owner, ready to slay another foe when called upon to do so!

Adrenalin is pumping as the remaining South Enders are aware that the Dark Arena Dome is somehow enhancing their ability to fire an extra Arrow, just as their opponents had somehow been enhanced to receive new strength to rise up and fight again!

Sir Yder responded to that knowing, even though he quickly searched for a nearby Ant to cleave with his Long Sword, but he stood his ground and almost without realizing what he was doing, the Knight grabbed 2 Arrows and searched for a twitching Ant to put out of its misery!

He let his first Arrow fly against Ant 1-R4 and immediately followed with a second as he somehow knew that it would take 2 of his Arrows to Mortally Wound the twitching foe! [Dies on T2-R2]

Ullrich likewise grabbed 3 Arrows with the same knowing and let 2 shafts fly into the twitching Ant 3-R4 that had been attacking ThunnGarr!

The impact of both Arrows inflicted a Mortal Wound as the Ant fell to the Dark Arena sands without twitching! [Dies T2-R2]

Then the Ranger searched for another threat to one of his teammates and his instincts guided him to set his sights upon Ant E2-R3 that had moved in front of Shandra.

His aim was straight and true, but it would take more than his extra Arrow to eliminate this foe!

Amberlyn also knew to grab 2 Arrows under the unexplained enhancement of the Dark Arena Dome as she was guided by The Light to also target the Ant that Ullrich had shot as it was an obvious threat to Shandra!

Mortally Wounded, the Ant fell to the Dark Arena sands as the teamwork paid off brilliantly as The Light most assuredly knew it would do! [Dies on T2-R3]

Ariane was not fully aware of what was transpiring around her, because she focused all her might to make Ant E1-R2 pay for its arrogance in daring to attack her!

Her Holy Avenger Long Sword bit deep and true as her foe was Instantly Slain!

Cunning Fox sensed that he too had received the enhanced ability to fire 3 Arrows under the influence of the Dark Arena Dome as he withdrew 3 Arrows to come to the aid of Ariane!

His first Arrow did not inflict enough damage to eliminate Ant E1-R4 that had been knocked Unconscious with Grievous Wounds by the Lightning Bolt from the Staff of Power wielded by Bumble Brew!

Then turning his attention to Ant E1-R3 that had moved within 15 feet of the young Paladin, he let fly his remaining 2 Arrows and Mortally Wounded the threatening foe! [Dies on T2-R2]


Shandra was almost disgusted that the threatening Ants had been dispatched by her teammates before she could eliminate them by herself, but she knew that The Light had a purpose in coming to her aid in this manner!

Only one twitching Ant remained as the young Monk flung her Club 10 feet away into the maw of Ant E1-R4, Instantly Killing the twitching foe that had threatened to attack her Paladin companion mere moments ago!


Congratulations are fleeting as the South Enders suddenly realize that all of their attackers are now laying upon the Dark Arena sands either Dead or Dying!

There are currently NO Giant Ants marching in their direction!

The Ants attacking the North Enders are currently out of range of their Long Bows!

There are 2 Monks left alive battling 4 Ants at the East End of the Dark Arena!

There are 7 Gnome Clerics remaining in battle against 19 Ants at the West End and 4 of those 19 Ants are twitching in the Dark Arena sands under the glow of the Dark Arena Dome!

Note from the Castle Keeper
None of you are in ANY Danger of losing any more hit points so there is NO Need to apply Healing to Any of the South Enders!

Good News!

Initiative for Turn 2 Round 2 is in favor of the Gladiators!

The Giant Ants marching from the East End towards the Human Fighters at the North End are already out of Long Bow range from any of the South Enders!

The Counter Attacks from the South Enders have already been configured and recorded on paper way before Abraxis made his post today; therefore, the results will be typed and posted ASAP and then you will have to make some decisions regarding further battle plans!

North Enders
The Dark Arena crowd roars as the Giant Ants try to bite the Human Fighters, but miraculously all 11 Ants fail and miss their targets!

The Human Fighters fare much better as 3 of their foes are Mortally Wounded and 2 others lay Dead in the Dark Arena sands!


Ollie Gory fires 2 more Arrows and Slays yet another Giant Ant that was menacing the Human Fighters!


West Enders
The Gnome Clerics are under siege from 19 Giant Ants as Clerics #1, #7 and #4 are bitten by their foes!

Two of the Giant Ants inflict damage upon themselves as one lunges and bites its own right front appendage, while the other stumbles and collides with Cleric #8 and inflicts damage on both the Cleric and its own body!

One Lone Ant W5-R1 rises up from the Dark Arena sands after twitching with Grievous Wounds, but the healing glow of the Dark Arena Dome has restored it back to life, so it heeds the call of its comrades and marches towards the South Enders to a position 20 feet away from Bumble Brew!

Meanwhile, the Gnome Clerics strike back with their Clubs and render 4 of their foes Unconscious with Grievous Wounds, but their fallen foes begin twitching in the Dark Arena sands as the reviving glow of the Dark Arena Dome begins to work its magic once again as it had done the previous Turn!


East Enders
The 3 remaining Halfling Monks are under attack from a half dozen Giant Ants, while 5 more begin marching towards the Human Fighters!

Ant E4-R4 makes its third consecutive Kill as Monk #5 is bitten in the neck and then brought to the Dark Arena sands with a sickening snap of his arteries!

Monks #4 and #3 manage to elude their attackers and then exact a small measure of revenge as the combined might of their Hand Axes and Clubs are able to Slay 2 of the Giant Ants, reducing their number of attackers to 4 remaining foes!


South Enders
ThunnGarr is under attack from Ants 1-R4, 3-R4 and 4-R4; however, the Giant Dwarf is able to block their bites with his Shield of Bashing!

Ant 3-R5 moves 5 feet to an attack position on the left side of Shandra, but the young Monk is well able to dodge the attack of this single foe!

Ant E1-R3 moves 15 feet to attack the right side of Ariane, but the combination of a weary Ant and a wary Paladin results in another miss!

Marching Ants E1-R4 marches 40 feet to a position at the top diagonal right of Ariane; E2-R3 marches 30 feet to a position directly in front of Shandra and Ant E1-R3 marches 50 feet to a position 15 feet northeast from Ariane.

There were 5 Ants able to attack the South Enders with 3 more marching as reinforcements.

..... may be the time for Hingatuli to cast the Magical Stone spell because it takes 4 rounds and can be given to Rat since the 3 stones used with the sling inflicts 2d4 damage against Undead targets!

Stones only remain enchanted for 30 minutes, so this seems to be as good a time as any!

Remember the missing corpses?

Looks like they have returned now!



Meanwhile, when they get closer we can chop them up!

Volkmar Vanara's mind was as clouded with thoughts as the heavy mist that enshrouded the party in the oncoming gloom of approaching darkness.

... I should have been more help than hindrance ... afterall ... I am a decorated Spiderguard ... but my performance was as dismal as these mists ... my failure to repel the attack of the Shamblers from the outset could have cost us our lives ... must pull my own weight in any future encounters ... but I at least have the satisfaction of knowing the last Shambler fell by the point of my spear ...

The disgruntled Khord huddles towards the back of the group, staying alert for any possible danger that may come stalking from the direction of their last battle, brooding with his tortured thoughts as he awaits the fate of the young adventurer Isaac, while his companions do the same in their own manner of keeping watch over one another.

Special Notice:

My left hand got scalded by some hot water at the office a couple days ago from a tea mug that was filled to the brim by a server here in the office.

When I opened the top to put a tea bag in the just boiled water splashed on my hand and I worked a few hours "hunt and peck" with my right index finger before leaving the office early to rest and medicate my hand.

Today is my first day back in the office and the hand is starting to hurt again from all the typing in the newspaper editing and layout of pages.

Just wanted the DMs and Players in the games I am currently active in to understand why it may be a couple more days before I do any posting.

If you players would be so kind as to give me a PM or Q&A generic-type outline of how your character will react to the incoming Ants during Turn 2 Combat Rounds then I will just write up the summaries for each Combat Round and post where we are at somewhere along the way!
