Well it would be nice to know something about the other character. We won't have the chance to learn by observation of body language that give insight to character. But I would guess in a quickly formed group like this there wouldn't be a "Meet & Greet" to get to know each other. You follow the Officer and "leaders" just surface through actions and deeds.
As for my guy, I sort of see him as a combination of Radar O'Riley and House.
Say Tannn, was 307th still part of the 82nd when you were in?
I did a little history check to give my guy a plausible background for the time. The 82nd,s Medical arm was the 307th and they were the first medics to be jump trained.

Well, I'm really use to table top minitures and constructions. The barrels and creates remind me of those we use, so it clicks really well with me. I don't know what effect you were looking for, but it works for me.
