Breathing heavily Jon looked around the room, “I also know you ain’t here to be safe, but there ain’t no job or cargo worth more to me than you’all….So if you want to turn around I’ll do it….I ain’t saying we stop listening and watching but we ain’t ever go’na know everything. So we just keep doing the job we were hired to do and cover each other’s backs.”

I have two options ideas for Asher and Trish:
A: Do a little annoying buzz of the Corvette to drop the EM's and possibly mess up its systems.
B: Do a swing back over the Roc to bombard the troops on and around the ship.

Sorry about sort of jumping past your question on driving. I believe one of the most important things about driving is not to let yourself be distracted. Phones, CD's, Ipods and any of that stuff needs to be done when your are not behind the wheel. Let someone else mess with it and you pay attention to what is happening.
Get to know your car, the sounds, how it feels, even the smells. Odd or strange things can clue you in to trouble before action has to happen. I know that sort of sounds Zen like but it is true.
Drive defensively, assume the other person is an idiot and not paying attention. They expect you to get out of their way and beleive they never do anything wrong. Even if you know the laws and rules of driving other folks don't and will not follow the rules. Those are the cases where you can end up Dead Right!
Know the road conditions and give lots of extra space on wet, ice and snow. I just had a car totaled because the driver behind me was going too fast and couldn't stop because the road was icy. I was stopped at a light and he was doing 50 on an ice covered road. Don't be that driver!
I know that all sound rather bleek but if you stay aware it won't be so bad. That accident was the first I'd been in for about 30 years and there wasn't anything I could have done about it.
So just be careful.

I've tried to post a bit open ended to allow others to get their thoughts in, but I kind of feel I'm bumbling around.
Is it making sense to all of so far?
Jon wants to get the job done, get paid and get on with it without his crew getting hurt like last time. But he also is a romantic at heart even though he hasn't shown it so far. Growing up without a mother and being raised by the crew of freighter filled with good men has sort of slanted his his view as the protector. He has a bit of Don Quixote in him.

Dudley watched as the armored Bugbear obeyed the command and leapt into the water. He thanked his Goddess for the good fortune. At least for a bit this would occupy the creature as it attempted to swim and ignored the battle.
Leaving only the large leader as an eminent threat. Dudley left that one to the better fighters and kept a watchful eye on the brut in the pool. If that creature seemed to shake off the spell he would meet it with his mace as it tried to pull itself from the water.
