I will get a bit more up on Lum soon. Being that the party has been together for a year I'd guess they had learned a bit more.

Subject: More Lum..........

Dwan soon found out that although Lum would efficiently complete a request he could defiantly resist a direct order. He distinctly remembered the one time he had shook his finger in Lum's face as he tried to order the Orc to move a pile of rocks. Lum's brows furrowed as a dark and menacing look covered his face. The Orc held to his chest the pouch on the thong he rumbled, "Please." Dwan was a wise businessman, he quickly lowered his hand and coughed out, "Oh yes..of course, please."

Dwan had watched as big dark Orc had studied the structure before he repaired the walls of the Inn. That skill hinted of formal training and which was best known from the guilds of Nestora. The old prejudices between Orc and Dwarv had grown from the belief that the big creatures didn't have the mind or the discipline to apply the logic required to create a structure; only the strength to place the materials. One of Lum's strengths was letting others underestimate him.

"There is more to the story of Lum. He just hasn't told it all to me yet. Once I have his trust he should let me in and I can relay it on," said the old story teller. "There is a deep pain and darkness that drives him. It is rumored that some Scouts in his parties never returned and the others could not say where they had gone. Lum just seemed to have been able to deliver what ever it had been they had found."

They both are Blaster Pistol Group.

Stardate 2365.02.08
USS Peregrine; Lt. Reid's Quarters - 1535

John have reached to a couple of others to find what he might on the rash of transfers. His last call was back to Starbase 118. From the com console looked out a black haired Asian beauty. Petty Officer Julia Kato may look diminutive, but she could move then handle herself. She too was a weapons expert on the Starbase security crew

"So you have time to call but not to visit? I saw on the records that you were in the Starbase security office but you never bothered to find me. What's up with that?"

"I'm sorry cuz, I was on an assignment to find information for my CO and had to get a report to him. I thought we'd be there longer and I could catch you later. But as you would know we got turned around pretty quickly and had a mess of changes to boot."

"Yeah, I was noting all those staff transfers; we had to post the security codes and data. Boy but you guys made us a lot of work."

"Hey it wasn't our idea..in fact that's why I called. Could you let me know if you hear any scuttlebutt on those transfers? This just doesn't seem close to usual. And if you think of it see if you can follow the money? That can have something to do with this."

"Well I'm not too good at that but this is your lucky day. Your old buddy Vega is here in Ops and I'd bet he can find something."

"Donny's there? Man I haven't seen him since we got our commissions. Sure let him know I'd appreciate anything he might find."

"Ok I'll track him down, but you know he hates being called Donny." In exaggerated Latin accent, "It Don Diego..not Donny."

They both let out brief laugh, "Julie, I'll make it up to you if we swing back to 118, dinner at the place of your choice."

"Oh you'll do better than just dinner. ,You take care Johnny Boy."

"Sure thing, you too."

As the com-port faded Julia looked over to the Oriental style painting on the wall of a Crimson Wasp and smiled.

Stardate 2365.02.08
USS Peregrine; Lt. Reid's Quarters - 1555

John has finished his calls and was preparing to turn in. With the stress of the day and he knew he'd rise early to prepare for his bridge shift so sleep was next on the list.
Just as he was about to pull off his shirt the comm. blared out,

=/= ""Security Team Beta 2, report immediately to Sickbay. Repeat, Security Team Beta 2, report immediately to Sickbay. Potential security threat reported."=/=

The first think that crossed John's mind was that the Ambassador had had at each other. "Crap..that's all we need."

Grabbing his comm and side arm John headed to the turbo. As he moved down the passageway he tapped his comm., "Ensign Mathews, this is LT. Reid, meet me in the sickbay." Might as well get him started.

Stardate 2365.02.08
USS Peregrine - Sickbay, Deck 4 - 1600

John entered the bay to find Crewman Galla and Wren both standing by with phasers drawn. They obviously had just arrived too. John entered sickbay followed close by an Ensign.

"What's the situation? Why was security called?" John looked around the sick bay.

The medical staff was gathered around a restrained man on an observation table.

"Can anyone tell us what happened?"

The medical staff relayed what the petty officer had said and done.

"I want you to notify Ensign Williams here when he becomes lucid." Turning to the Ensign, "I need you question this man and find just what happened in here. Also contact engineering to take that unit off line and see if there might be something malfunctioning that could have lead Bachmann to think it attacked him. While you wait for Bachmann to come to head down to security and have Petty Officer Enpok T'Darin fill you in on all our excitement. I'm sure Lt. Berk will brief you when he comes off the bridged."

Then looking up at the dazed Ensign and chuckling slightly, "Oh.. I'm Lt. Reid the ACTO ,.welcome aboard the Peregrine. Let us know if you get bored,.. Crewman Wren please show our new Security Officer to the Security Section. ,,..Nurse Cook, thank you, let me know if there is anything else to report."

Letting out a sigh John headed back to his quarters.

Tapping his comm., "Reid to Lt. Berk."

(assuming something like "Berk here.")

"Appears to have been an equipment malfunction in sickbay. I'm having Ensign Williams follow up and Engineering to address the equipment. The odd thing is it was the table the Chief Thorson had been on,Ensign Williams will fill the report,.Reid out."

John's sleep shift is Beta as he is on the bridge gamma. But we are ALWAYS on duty.

Berk should be on the bridge at the TAC and Blackmon at dinner coming off alpha. And we shouldn't toss this to the new guy yet.

I think I already have the security teams setup.

The Pegasus was a popular place for both locals and travelers. The common room was often busy and noisy. The owner used that flow of customer to gain knowledge of possible treasures of Fulign that he could turn to his profit. To find those lost treasures Dwan the Dwarf hired misfits and drifters and would send them to retrieve what they could. But those adventures could not always be trusted.

In a far dimly lit corner of the gathering room sat a hulking figure. His dark scared skin blended into the shadows and his heavy rumbling breathing gave warning to anyone that chanced to stumble close to retreat to safer ground. Dwarvs had held a grudge against the old ally since the rebellion, but Dwan knew it was good business to protect his assets.

Perhaps Dwan was the only one who knew the story behind what had happened to the Orc that had crawled to the Inn's back door. He had Housed the hulk in an outbuilding where the innkeeper had his wounds bound. Then he allowed the Orc to repay the care by repairing and rebuilding portions of Inn.

When the creature was fully healed Dwan offered him a job to accompany and guard the crews he hired to retrieve the items from the Rust Waste. To be sure the Fulign was returned and to perhaps to regain what he had lost. For those that traveled with him they only knew him as Lum the Forsaken.

John still had some time before he needed to turn in. To help sort out the event he needed more information. The official channels had everything in order and to regulation but there is always more and it never hurt to ask for help.

Signing on to the communications council he tapped out a not nearly used enough number.

It took a moment or so but then the familiar native America face of Ensign Jay Silverheels filled the screen. "Yo, Kemosabe how's it hanging? I was starting to wonder when you'd call?

"Sorry, Crazy,. It's just been pretty quiet out here, nothing much to shear. The pirates just seemed to backup and leave. I've spent most of the time taking TAC classes. "

"Hey that's pretty dull after your little sortie on Moropa."

"Well that's just being in the right place at the right time."

"Hey man, we know better than that,,, So why did you really call me?"

"Never could get much past you."

"Hey..that's why they keep me here at Command."

John smirked, "Wellllllllll,.now that you mention it."

With that Jay let out a rolling laugh. "Ok Kemo what's the real deal?"

John rolled out the events of the last 24 hour and the speculations. "Jay, it would be great if there was a way to find out who might be on Captain Drakes case. Hell it might even be someone on Jacob's case and using us to get to him."

"So you want me to risk my career by snooping into brass politics?"

"Yeah, pretty much,so when you find something send me smoke signal?"

"You're pushing it there buddy boy,but we'll see....You keep your head down."

"Thanks Jay. Later."

"Later."

I guess it is just me getting use to free form. I'm only limiting myself so to staying deep in the structure.

I did have fun with the "Love Boat" segment and was intending to work with BooBoo on a Nurse encounter. But as thing got quiet that sort fizzled. Now I've got John's dark side starting to surface and I was thinking a bit deeply on that.

Time to kick it and let loose. For some reason I keep picturing "The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis" meets "The Green Hornet".

Any of you remember Dobie Gillis?

Stardate 2365.02.08
USS Peregrine; Lt. Reid's Quarters - 1300

John finalized the report summary for Lt. Berk to submit to Captain Drake. The cascade of events seemed just too much to be coincidence. There was just too much wrong with this actions.

As Berk took the PADD and headed to report their findings to the Captain John headed back to his quarters. There had been tension between himself and his new CO but now Berks words hung in his thoughts. "I'm not in the business of throwing subordinates under the bus for personal gain. It was part of his upbringing to give trust to the trustworthy and Lt. Berk had shown himself to be worthy.

The door whoosed close behind him as he stepped into his room. The events of the day weighed on his mind. He had sworn to uphold the ideals of Starfleet and to promote the rules of Justice throughout their dealings. But now someone was turning those rules to injustice and likely for personal reasons. Something needed to be done but John had no hard facts to work on.

From the dresser drawer the young security officer removed the familiar cloth pouch. Holding it often helped him clear his thought, to separate anger and think logically. The heirloom defined to him meaning of Justice. Laws are written to bring calm from chaos. But it is through the use of those laws to that justice is served. He had to remember the true meaning of Justice: the maintenance or administration of what is just especially by the impartial adjustment of conflicting claims or the assignment of merited rewards or punishments.

Sliding the crystal clear form from the cloth John gazed at the Silver 45 caliber bullet encased inside. The words from one of the line of the family creed spoke to him, "I believe that all things change but truth, and that truth alone, lives on forever. John now understood that he must do his best to find the truth of what was happening to his Captain and his ship.

Seems each year the different sites list the choices in different manners.

My first game choice post was just a cut and paste from site and not necessarily the best.
