Got the first post up. It is still flowing like cold heavy weight motor oil but at least it is flowing. I hope to do some other fill too. I've some thoughts to go along with the getting of the job and Pops acting as "The Face". If no one objects I planned to have him cash in a bit on his time with the Nora Lee as a "reliable" delivery source. Being that Alacrity already said we got the job I can't mess it up too much.

Alacrity is help me rebuild my character sheet, I am awful at that. He pointed out I had too much conflict in my choices. Things should be cleared up soon.

The crew does not know anything about Jonah's history beyond a short time before he lost his job as Senior R&D Quality Engineer. That is all ten plus years before the war. There may be a bit more personal story behind the name of his transport Nora Lee. But for now when asked he just says it was a nice sounding name.

Jonah had his paperwork in hand and was rounding up the passengers assigned to him. With the wat over he’d been able to make some money doing pick and delivery of POWs being released and returned to the some of the core planets. They’d docked the Nora Lee to the Victorious. Jonah had left Nathen and Elum to prepare while he reported in to collect his passengers. 

Johan had come to the holding room where two men waited. A tall muscular bald guy paced like a caged animal and slightly older fellow with dark hair and a slight oriental just stood there calmly resigned to the events. Unfolding the passage documents he was about to address the men when alarms starts clanging, the ship shook with the sounds of missile hits. Explosions followed. People running.  An alliance guard came to the door and opened it quickly “To the life pods!” He said firmly, “Now! Quick quick quick! We are under attack!” Jonah starred as the boat rocked from the impacts. He couldn’t seem to get moving but he knew he needed to get to the Nora Lee. Another explosion rocked, that was it the three men ran into the gangway. Jonah headed down the way but the Nora Lee was at the aft end and he could see ahead the passage was blocked with debris. Jonah could only hope Nathen would not wait for him and cut her loose. 

The three of them made it into a life pod; it seals itself and launches. They watch as they spiral away from the burning ship. Small ships black and diamond shaped ships fly past, launching more missiles. The “Victorious” breaks up into pieces. Jonah’s knees buckle as he sees his freighter is attached to it.

The big guy found a basic tools kit and a manual for Blue Sun Life Pods XL3’s.  He quickly discovered they were in a Blue Sun Life Pod XL6. “These aren’t going to help.” Jonah looked at him,”Don’t worry these were made from the same basic model.” He immediately starts opening panels and looking around, “Gonna kill the beacon. Don’t want them xxx homing in on it.” Turning Johan, “Pops can you fly this thing and get us the h*** out here?”

The big guys words brought his attention back, “It Johan, not Pops”, the big guy just shrugged. 

Steeling himself, he went to the flight controls and found they were locked out. “I can figure out how to get these working.” The big guy looked at him raising an eyebrow, “Ok Pops ….and you can call me Wolf”.

 The other man looked up, “I’m Wyatt since we do not have a lot of fuel, we should drift for a time and then use the thrusters judiciously to try to get to a shipping area where we could reactivate the beacon.” 

The men talked over the next several days, Jonah told them about Nora Lee. He told them of the events and how he’d got her from his former employer. He told them of his time serving both sides during the war as a diplomatic courier and that he was neutral. Wolf seemed to get a kick out keep calling him Pops and after a while Jonah stopped objecting, after all he was old to be his Pops.

After 5 days, they got a ping on the proximity detector. Something was out there.

Wyatt made the decision to activate the beacon and take your chances. But nothing happened. Jonah moved the pod around and soon found the ship. It was a derelict floating in space. Looked like a transport but it was painted black and very stylish. There were no signs of life on the ship and no power signatures – it seemed completely dead.

The Life pod was not going to last forever but the ship was dead in the black. Jonah wanted to stay with the pod, Wolf wanted to try the ship. Wyatt again made the final decision to see if they could get in to the ship and see what was salvageable.

The cargo bay had to be manually opened through an outer hatch which Wolf did via the EVA suit. Once inside, Wyatt and Pops took the two HD suits and explored the ship, short distances at first. The cargo bay looked like it had been through a battle. It did not take long to realize that someone had lined the walls of the Bay with claymore mines and then there were all set off. Not much left inside.

The ship had no dead aboard, but there was definitely a battle here before. Most of the ship was shot up from within, or destroyed by an explosive force. The only places intact were the cockpit and engineering. You found another HD EVA suit and more oxygen tanks in a locker. Fenris checked the engines and found to his surprise that they were operational. There was some damage, enough to stop them but he could at least it spinning.

The ship was like nothing Jonah had worked on during his years in R&D, but...well he just felt he knew more... something… he he noticed things.

The Speed Gauge went to 13. Most transports can reach a hard burn of 6, maybe 7.

The ship’s wiring had been hand rolled with anti-magnetic tape. Every sign piece of wiring.

There was a backup fusion battery that drew power from the engine. It was basic put in to restart the ship and life support if ever hit by an EMP attack.

The Pulse beacon had seven setting (Seven different call numbers spots). Pulse beacons are only made to hold one. However all the numbers in the array were wiped clean.

So he fixed the ship as best he could, keep life support and heat to the cockpit and engine room only. It was tight, but not as tight the life pods.  Jonah watched Wyatt take charge and he knew this was the new captain of this ship. He knew he could trust him and when he slipped and called Pops Jonah just smiled and nodded. Johan knew he’d settle up proper with Nathen and Elum’s kin, but this was his new ship and his new crew.

Roger is just upset because all he has is that Canadian Superhero Dino the.....Torontosaurur Rex

I like the way Alacrity took stuff from the old Destiny and rolled it in the new. Part of the old story the mechanic Grace was very twichy and she warpped all the wiring after we had been hit by anEMP attack. She also lined the ship with the claymores to stop anyone from taking the ship. Good memories. But that has nothing to do with us now. 

Going to work with Albert a bit on the first posts. I'm sharing some ideas with him that will roll from their time in the escape to getting the found ship working. Jonah has background in the systems of crafts, he is not a mechanic but knows a lot about what makes things work, he just does have the hands on skill. Jonah and Wolf will have a running relationship. It will be a bit gruff. Jonah is older and can be blunt about fixing things. Wolf can be a bit stubborn when told what he should do. So let that be the teaser.

Hard to believe it has been nearly three years since we last posted here.

Thanks Brom. I figure it will mostly just take doing stuff. I can see where I'll need to make folders to seperate my game docs. I have made one folder so far for Destiny. Figured out how to copy and paste. So old dogs can learn new tricks.....

Well I was able to pull the information from the PMs to create a couple of doc with Pop's information.

I will start a story next.

Well I am starting to get use to this Chromebook. It will save my stuff to the Google Drive when I make a document.

Now I just have figure how. Going try to copy & paste what I sent as a PM to Alacrity.

My laptop that has my stuff about Pops has pooped out. Don't know if I can get to the word files.

I've fired up the old XP laptop and will have to rebuild my information.

I think most of it is in the PMs to Alacrity.

Bought a cheap Chromebook from Walmart today, should have it Monday. I am hoping that it will be an easy way to do postings.

This sounds just right for Pops, he was never a fighter on either side. He only had Allience rank to clear security and test / check fly experimental crafts. He found that a pump shotgun pointed in a unrulely person's direction was often enough to make them go away. Carrying a pistol on his side made him less of an easy target, but when gun play starts Pops often is the last to join in, just don't like it. He wouldrather try to talk his way out.

Ok our bad...we need to go to the player's handbook that was provided and use it for gear and weapons.

I goofed and just looked at old character sheets instead of doing as we were told to use the book.

As much as it was cool to have the super duper stuff we need to just get the regular stuff.

Pops has two regular pistols and a pump shot gum. Standard holster.

Here is the back story of Pops..if roger approves.

Jonah "Pops" Hicks is in his late 50s to early 60s. A drummed out Alliance Officer, been out 10 years before the war running his own business shuttling people. He somehow got his hands on one of first Knorr class transport prototypes which he flew through the end of the war.

how it happened:

Some nine years before the Unification War, ship designer Contessa Herkeimer set about designing the light cargo transport to supply the needs of Border and Rim freight shippers. The result was the “Knorr.”
Her design was fairly radical for the time, and seems to polarize opinions. Johan had worked there for years and had become the Senior Quality Engineer in Research and development. Although he didn't really support any political side he had to join the Alliance to keep security clearances. He was awarded the rank of Captain which would allow he to fly. As his job he would review designs, check and test prototype crafts to see that they met specifications before turning it over to a test pilot who then push it to it limits.

A hot shot young pilot got cute attempting a vertical landing of an early design Knorr and lost control of the craft. It swung toward the observation area. Herkeimer's daughter had been on the tarmac with Johan and the other engineers.  As the thrusters were melting and burning a path toward them the group fled to the hanger.  Jonah scooped up the young girl rushing her to the safety of building. They were able scramble through the door, the girl safely clear of the danger, but as Jonah turned back to pull the door closed the backwash flashed through burning his face and hands. The burns left his face badly scared with pinkish wrinkled skin. (He now wears a full bread to cover the scares.)

The pilot was from a wealth core family and eventually the blame was place on a malfunction the Jonah had missed. The family saw to it that Jonah lost his job and his commission. Herkeimer however knew the truth and felt indebted to Jonah for saving his daughter. He helped Jonah move out from the core plants and set up a shuttle business. By spreading the word Jonah became nearly a personal shuttle service many friends and family of the Hereimers. When the war started he turned the business into a diplomatic currier service that got him clearance in and out  of many  planets and situations.

Jonah never really support the Alliance, that young hot shot had become a ranking officer and his recklessness had cost the lives of many of his own men. He had also ordered many of the unnessary bombing in Serenity Valley. 

Pops has varied background. He can fly, cook, open locks, fix computer, hack programs and other unexpected skills. He says he was too old to be a Browncoat, but he seems to have been in a lot of places when someone was needed on the QT.

So I sort of see this game as a parallel universe. We may bring in old characters we are familure playing, histories can be the same but has happened on Rec or Destiny in the other games hasnever happened in the verse.

I see this as the crew is coming together for the first time and having to figure out how to get along.

I'm not locked in to this picture..it was just to show an older person. I think Roger used this in another episode so I my find something else. I want him to be "forgettable", someone that seemed to blend into the crowd or someone you want to forget. Could be "ugly as sin". He acts like he doesn't like being called "Pops", but it works to keep him anonymous.

He may seem as if he's had special Alliance training, could be a retired Alliance officer, but there seems to be no records. He may have had a suttle service before the war. During the war he still was a "taxi" for thoses that needed to be places. Folks wondered how he seemed to be ignored by the Alliance, but then he was just a "taxi".

Ok still working on idea to help me work on ideas.

Well that may be true, but it would hard for Wolf to run if someone shot him in the leg...by accident.....
