As the pitcher wobbled to a stop, Doc took a look at the greasy kitchen rag Brutal dropped on the floor.
Shaking his head while he opening the medic kit, Jack pulled out a triangle bandage and dipped it in pitcher and rung out the excess water.

He could tell by the even redden on the lady's cheek that she had just taken a mean slap, it would hurt and stay red for a while but that was all there was.

Had she been slugged or pistol whipped the dark heavy swelling and bruising from broken veins or crushed bone under the skin would have already started.

Handing the cool compress to her he said,

"Here, put this on your cheek, it's cool enough to slow to the swelling."

Looking at Brutal as he walked out the door Doc continued,

"Don't worry about him, his bark is worse then his bite! He hasn't killed anything recently and it's making him a tad irritable. With any luck he'll get something killed soon other then us or himself.

Although Doc joked about Brutal, he was really starting worry if the Sarg could handle that loose cannon.

He just can't see anything past the tip of his own nose.

One man with a personal agenda could get them all killed as he just stood there and laughed.

Jack had finished checking behind cabin and was headed back around to join others in the Cabin. He heard Captain speaking to Brutal.

"Now, get Doc in here so he can look after the Lady's cheek. I'm sure he'll be able to help it from swelling."

Doc saw Brutal step around the corner and wave forward,

"Captain wants you inside, he wants you to tend to the lady."

As Doc started to step past him he grabbed Jack’s arm saying,

"You screwed up Corporal, you compromised us earlier when we approached this cabin. You ever do something like that again and I will bury you. You got me!"

Doc looked into Brutals cold eyes and in a calm voice said,

” Save your bad ass attitude for scaring the woman and children. You’re just lucky that was the only Kruat, and the lady killed him for you. Now go find a bucket of water and rag so we can make nice with the lady.”

Doc walked over to captain,

“It’s all clear outside, that was the only enemy soldier you have to worry about. “

Jack glanced to door where Brutal was still posturing,

“The well is behind cabin Jake, I still need some water for this lady.”

Pulling out his medic’s pouch Doc showed the lady the Red Cross,

“It looks like that Enzo Ferrari wanna be had no manners; may I check your face, Miss?”

Subject: The Bead....

Tohmaz had look forward to the visit with Lars and Gisela Haffner .
He had hoped to learn from them more of herbs and healing. Those are the things that would help him care for his clan.
If the clan was ever to succeed this quest they must stay as health as possible.
BluddGinn is a good healer, but he is also a brave and strong fighter and would need Tohmaz to keep him strong. Rhiannon can heal too, but she too will be in the thick of the melee.

When Lars and Gisela told them of the heal gift Tohmaz saw the wisdom in the gift.
A healer will not always be there when a member is beaten down and being able to heal yourself may turn the tide. And if the healer is beaten down then all will suffer.
So with respect and with much graditude Tohmaz received his Crimson Bead.

The bead would blend with the others he had made and currently hung against his chest.
The bead would rest over his heart. The rhythm of his life would pound softly into the bead.

Then Gisela requested that he visit the elder Botkin.
Tohmaz was confused as to why he would be request to tend the aged hero of this community.
The Shaman was honored but what could a simple servant of Atira do for the patriarch of these people.

Looking at the Tome that had been presented to him Tohmaz said,

“I am honored to visit the namesake of this fair town. Let them know I will be there mid afternoon tomorrow.”

Subject: To the Keep?

Well this is interesting, Tohmaz going to see the elder Botkin.
I was planning for Tohmas to rise before dawn each of next six days and go to the Oak Tree in the Oak Grove to read his book. He'll take some food and water with him for breakfast and lunch. He feels that being near the tree would also bring him close to his Goddess, Atira.

Now he will visit the Keep and Clement mid afternoon the first day after their visits to the locations for their gifts. I'm not sure if Clement can be strengthened by Altira in a Rain Dance ceremony, but if he his condition in NOT natural aging then maybe she can cure him and clear his mind.

When you say fully cure, does mean limb regrowth? There's a one armed guy in the Keep that might like to dance too. He would be a great help to an old man to help him dance for two hours. Perhaps the son and daughter of the farmer Mertin von Stock could also help then Tohmaz will visit them and their father later in the week to speak of Atira's blessings to his farm and maybe find out some thing of Mertin's secret.

If Clement is too old to dance then I'll invoke the name of Atira and if she comes then I'll ask her to heal this brave defender of her lands.

If Tohmaz makes level 4 before we leave I was planning to offer the Halfling settlement a some plant growth to strength the hedge and to the von Stock garden, shoot maybe just a general area spell to help all the local farmers.

Just happened to think that it makes sense that Tohmaz would stop by the Tinkers and ask about the lands they have traveled and what they have seen.

And spend some more time at the House of D'Amter to learn more of herbs and healing. Also as to what animal parts they want and what herbs. He plans to spend time collecting such items to make a Medicine Man's pouch for each member but each one takes a month to complete. He can set some aside for Lars and Gisela Haffner.

Subject: For His Clan......

Tohmaz enjoyed having a grand meal he had not had to find and prepare himself, although so much food seemed to be a waste, that was the way of the city dwellers.
The city officials seemed to be very pleased with themselves.
But he did not hear them say how they served their people. Tohmaz felt a pang in his heart as these men who were supposed to protect and defend the people of this town made excuses as why they were not worthy of their concern.
They seemed more concerned that treasure be brought to them instead of clearing the evil and the taint from the lands.

How could they miss that the true treasure was the land and its people.

Tohmaz had just found his clan and these people ignored their own.
He suppressed the growing anger, he knew that in time they would be swept away by their own ignorance and greed.
The new clan of eight had to bear this foolishness; there was a need that they were there to fill.
If the taint remained on the land this petty group would continue to grow in power, because they survived on the fear of the people and hoped to grow rich on the valor of other.

When the Dwarven War Cleric stood and spoke straight and plain Tohmaz felt that he was testing the word of these “Officials”.
Although he was not sure they needed all of the item BluddGrinn had asked for, he felt he needed to support his new clansman.
So when it was his chance, he stood and addressed the “Officials”.

“I am Tohmaz, these eight are now my clan. My request is first to be sure that the needs of my clan are filled. BludGgrinn knows the needs of battle and has clearly stated these item. He also said we each need rations for 5 weeks, but we will require the things make a camp. I believe the drivers you found for us will help maintain our camp. Hey Al,hitting the Eggnog a little early?

Hmmm... hiding in the trunk, just like the good old days of sneaking into the drive-in.

But maybe just a tad of recon on the Castle before we boldly go where go GI has gone before. There is something fishy about the missing farm family. Maybe drive up near, hide the car, recon, then use the Trogenmobil to get in. In any case it looks like we'll need a bunch of 20 rolls to pull this off.

"Nien, don't look in trunk, it's just full of dirty clothes."

I haven't been very creative the past few days as I've been wrapping up things at my current job.
When I get home I've just been mentally fried.

But I got some ideas and need to find some support information. Putting together a shopping list.

I feel the Tohmaz will oversee the drivers and probaly the supplies for the meals.

I would like start making a Shaman's pouch for each Crusader and I need to find the materials and how long each will take. A reasonalbe degree of effort goes into each to have them caring the magic they bring to the receipient.

Subject: After the Rain Dance....

The Trail of Tears ceremony wound to it’s conclusion. Rhiannon had followed the trail of sprinkled water that Tohmaz let drop on the boats deck as he had chanted to his Goddess.
Tohmaz was pleased that the Cleric had aided the Amazon to give the strength she needed to complete the “Rain Dance”.
Rhiannon now stood straight and strong, she was fully healed and Tohman felt the joy that he had been able to be a part of that healing.

Some of the Crusaders had joined in the dance and Tohmaz had felt the bond grow and knew now in his heart he had found his clan.

He had falsely assumed his clan had to be of the people of his tribes and now understood the words he had been taught as his Shamans pledge.

While the seven other Crusaders were still gathered Tohmas stretched out his arm and addressed them.

“ Thank you, for allowing me to aide you, I had come on the crusade to help restore the lands that have been defiled by the dark creatures that drove out my ancestors.
I believed I would never have a clan to serve and would only try to do the will of my Goddess to heal her lands and creatures.

As you have come together to help each other I now believe I see the truth of my Training.

When a member of my people chooses the way of the Shaman they are taught to lead, but not to command.

We are not battle commanders, but loyal followers that hold up those around us.
We are taught to help calm the chaos so that the way can be followed.
We are taught to advise, to heal, to comfort, to provide and to defend our clan.
We are taught to do this with the joy in our heart that comes from unselfish service.

So if you shall have me, I pledge myself to this clan of eight.

In the words of my people,

Wimachtendienk, Wingolauksik, Witahemui.

Brotherhood, Cheerfulness, Service.

I figured that the Rhiannon, Tohmaz, Karvilo and Trossach are trained as Skirmishers (being skilled with range weapons and hand to hand)and the Rogue and Bard are more street fighters.

I'll post Tohmaz's confusion as internal and have him talk to the Cleric so he can support his plan and not cause concern among the group.

Tohmaz is not a battle leader, but he is an adviser. I'll bring that out in the next post. Tohmaz can and will fight, but he knows his strength to the party is as a support to them all. Because of the ways of equal status among men and women in his clans he also is skilled in tending the camp. Their way is of "Cheerful Service to the Brotherhood" and Tohmaz has now determined these Crusaders to be his clan.

I have to think of the medical, spell and food supplies the group needs as will as personal items.

Subject: That's a lot of stuff...............

Wow our war Cleric and Halfling sure have requested a massive amount of stuff.

That sounds like more than two carts of stuff for the cleric alone.

I've usually found that if you can't wear it, carry it on your back or horse you usually lose it.
Are we counting arrow usage or just figuring on retrieval after battle.

All those tinder boxes, what happened to good old flint and steel, one set each should cover.
I'd say that Rhi, Tohmaz and the Half-Orc should all know how to start fires with a friction bow.

Five weeks of feed for each of the animals? If we all ride then that's more carts to carry all those sacks of grain, can't they just graze?

Tents? How about a couple of blankets and maybe a trap or two. Don't really need separate quarters, there are only 8 plus 3 so we can huddle. Also the two carts will make shelters under as long as we have them.

10 waterskins of a gallon each? Just for the
dwarve? Remember "A pint is a pound the world around!" So that 8 pounds each, 80 pounds if carrier full. If just replacements then are they needed?

How many shields do you use at a time? One really good one should last a long time, then fix it.

We will forage daily for food and water to supplement any Iron Rations we may have.

We need to think "travel light", we are not a siege army.

How about "Sacks of Holding" they are great for stuff. If there any of those then the Dwarve can carry massive amounts of stuff.

Ok, a little guidance here Keeper.
