Hello......... Thought I'd pop in here and add the Ody welcome.

A really good place to start here is “Pit F(r)iend's epic guide to getting started for newbies.”on the Home page. That will help you figure out how to navigate the halls of the Inn.

To meet folk in real time pop into the DragonChat where I act as current resident bar tender. We offer our very own "Good Old Froth-n-Slosh", the stale pale ale with the foam on the bottom.

Just grab a mug off the mantel and draw a cold frosty one.

My assistant Igor is usually lurking around if I'm not there.

He never says anything, must have something to do with having his tongue cut out by his last boss, that nasty bartender over at the Orc Bar & Grill.

I'll have him put out a plate of "Lady Fingers" in your honor.

Reminds me we need to have another "Ladies Night" and restock.

Anyway the Posting Games are great place to get to know folks and of course the DragonChat is our favorite lounge.

So lurk or play, welcome to the Inn!

Subject: Odyson’s Review of the 5e Basic Rules

Odyson’s Review of the 5e Basic Rules:

Well I am not reviewing this game from the GM’s side. I don’t run the games, I play the games. I have done a few different rules sets and I have to say I am not the quickest study to learn rules. I need to play a game a while to get the flow so this is just a first impression.

This weekend my son and two of his friends joined our usual tabletop group. To make things easier the GM pulled out the new D&D starter set. There are five pre-generate characters for jumping into a quick start. We had seven show up for the game so our GM’s two sons built characters from scratch. Even with that we got started in pretty quickly.

The game started a little slow as each player got use to their character and the character sheet. I played the cleric and I did mess up a bit on the difference of casting cantrips and spells. I confused having three cantrip slots and having three cantrips ready. I started thinking I could cast any cantrip but only three. It took a bit to figure it was that I could select three cantrips that I could cast as often as I wanted.

We started like good little gamers as first level with its low HP and limited spell choice. Even a few lowly goblins can create havoc on level one adventures and this game is no different. We lost two characters in the goblin cave. My son was playing the rogue with 9HP and took 24 damage in one hit and one of human fighters got DOA with the wizard cast an area effect spell that caught him in the area. My cleric even took a hit that dropped him to -7. So if you’re a fan of running rough shod you better bide your time.

A good game needs a good GM to keep thing moving and spice things up. Our GM Randy is very good at that and our encounters were a hoot. The roll play in this version is what it is supposed to be all about. The opportunities to build story and interplay are better than in other hack- n slash games.

So in a brief summary you get out what you put in, it is less complicated and an easy roll play so it plays quickly. I really need to play through a couple of more levels to see how character growth works, so I’ll report back after each session.

Subject: The Battle, LV-426, 1:32 pm PT

The kid turned to start heading to the caves when he heard the ASREV opened up with full auto cannons on the corvette, it took out the back engines with a vengeance. Asher could see that ship would drop and wasted no time diving for cover, taking Ma down with him. He hustled them under the debris of the shuttle. As the large ship came down fast and hard, the impact shook the ground beneath them like an earthquake. Asher looked up and over at Rocinante expecting the landing struts to buckle but the old workhouse held steady as if an angel was watching over it.

The shacking stoped and the kid helped Trish out from under the debris. As they stood ASREVs and ASFS entered the atmo and swooped over the scene of the battle, heavier personnel carriers came in shortly after that. All of them broadcasting over speaker, "We are The Federal Marshalls of the Alliance. Drop all weapons and surrender. You are bound by law. We have assumed control. We have assumed control."

Asher found one of the seats from the shuttle and set it up for Trish. “Looks like we best stay put so they don’t confuse us with them.” He then help Ma into the seat, Trish layed her pink shotgun on the ground next to her. With the stimulants still coursing through his veins the PR man paced watching for fleeing mercs and hoping Lieutenant Vasques would come back.

“Unless anyone really is against letting you go, I believe that you shall walk free. However, answer this one question for me: how do you resist spells? I have never encountered a knight who so easily did so.", Cor spoke.
Ulthok really didn’t want to just release the knight but he’d learned to trust Cor, luck was often with him. He listened as this enemy prepared to leave.

“You of all people should know that Sir Dwarf… Wisdom, my wisdom is high enough to resist most charm spells and the like. Your Hold spell caught me off guard and so it took me awhile to break it. If that is all?”

The Knight regained his sword and other gear and headed for the door. Stopping as in thought, he turned to face Cor once more.

“For releasing me I give you this. Beware, there is a third of these Shadow-Wraiths” You can hear his tone of disgust. “Within this castle, called The Howler, beware of his voice”
The mage noted the information, just what they needed another ultra strong spell slinger to slow their progress.
The party secured the items Roan had found on the fallen foes. “Beware of weapon of those yellowfaces, they may carry strange magic.”
After the things were distributed or stored they headed out the back door following Barreel back the way he had come.

As they traversed the halls Peri clung to Ulthok’s shoulder, her small head lowered. Ulthok could sense the shame she felt and it would take some time for her to come to terms with what she had done to Sirene. Ulthok wanted to comfort her, but the shadow that had started crossing his heart since Valene was taken was leaving him feeling cold.

Coming to a pair of hallway the mage could see one leading to a stair going up and the other to another door. Moving up didn’t seemed to be the way to where prisoners would be held. Ulthok moved toward the door. “It may be more trouble but I think we need to check this room.”

Subject: Loot...........

So we have some more stuff.

5 potions,
3 bags of gold,
a well made expensive looking pin,
2 well-crafted bastard swords.
Orc well made armor though both sets were too small or too big for any of the party.
Githyanki he had found a number of well-designed swords, light and easy to use though two handed.

Beware of the Gith swords, they are highly treasured by the Gith and they are well none for sending groups to recover those weapons. Taking one of them would target you for direct attack.

Those wanting an Orc sword can have one, the rest of the weapons can go into a bag of holding for use later.

I'd say the gold and pin go in the group treasure sack unless there is a need for the pin.

Tann, can we tell what type of potions were found?

-------------------------
BTW, Ulthok well recommend going into the room. Stairs leading up doesn't seem likely to prisoners.

Dudley watch Wembley as the Lizard Man snarled and croaked, the little wizard seemed to nod his head.

"Did you understand what that scaly thing just said?", Dudley addressed to other Cid.

(OOC, ok here's the chance for Wembley to use one of his many languages. Why not let it be Lizard?)

I'm thinking of calling most of the crew to bridge so Grace can brief us. I can have Jon call all the crew if you all think it is wise to leave Asente alone.

The crew can determine how much to share and shake out a loose plan. we then call everyone to the galley to go over the plan and get buy in from Seth, Lillianna, the brothers and Asente.

I've given some ideas for plan already, any thoughts on them?

dudley moved up the strairs to find the success of Wembley with the sleeping lizard men on the floor. It didn't take long for the ranger to take control and tell him to tie up the sleeper. As Dudley looked aaround he noted there was no rope, but the creatures did have leather shoulder bags. "Well I guess luck is with us, we can use these straps to secure these fellows." As he he cut the straps and started securing the dozers others took the covering from the smashed wooden ninja, cutting it to strips and tying up the creature even better.

"If these guys don't wake we should take their weapons and move on."

I don't remember the Wine Ninja being dead, I thought he was just hurt.

So now we add insult to injury by stripping him to use his clothes for bindings?

We should heal the him and send him on his way.

Lizard guys often carry pouches with leather straps, we can use those, but we need to state we searched them. We can use their weapons belts and bow strings could be used too, if they have them.

Well we will be play testing 5.0 next Sunday. Sir Nibley,CTHB and I will tryout this edition. Sir Nbley's dad is our GM. My son even join us. I never gamed with him yet, he just started playing a few months ago with some of his friends. They are trying 3.5.

I plan to read the PH download this week. I will most likely play one of preset characters just to save time.

So i'll report back my comments after I've had some time to digest how things went.

We need to push it a little. Although Grace just fuzzied thing up a bit with the Blue Sun thing.

I'm for taking planning to drop off Lillianna WITH her knowing we intend to help her, we're just not sure how yet.

As for Asente, Jon can concede to her skills as 101 but I don't feel he will go along trying to get her and her group the property. She can go after that later.

Ulthok listened to the Ranger but he still felt stong against letting the Knight have any advantage.

"The things in this place may well recognize this Knight in his armor and then rally to him....Nay, to letting him leave armored and armed... We will take his armor and weapons, perhaps they could aid us later" Pointing to the Knight, "We need not chance letting him easily draw forces against us...if he survives.. let it be by his wits alone!"

The mage slowly turned to Cor, "You are our leader old friend and I will honor your choice, but don't forget another Knight we trusted..Alasdair...he too had seemed Honorable."

"'Aye, Rayne speaks for me as well... I do not trust his words.... The Knight has cast his lot in with this evil plan and he has been given something in return that is more valuable than we could offer.... He is no mire minion, but a leader, treachery can be presented with a silver tongue and noble actions, but it is still treachery."

Ulthok paced a bit as he thought and spoke.

"We can not turn him loose and I fear that killing him would be just a bad. An execution may fulfill promises from his masters.... I say strip him of his armor, gag him and bind his hands. We leave him in his small clothes only... Be sure to take all rings, pendants or anything else that carry magic to aid him. Perhaps we can stow him in the next storage room we find....If we are attacked again before then, well he will just have to fend for himself."

(OOC) He most likely has hidden weapons or other items, we may find the vessel that was prepared to hold is essence if he were killed.

Ideas to get what we want.

Get Seth to help clear our weapons as his helpers. This means we need to get him to agree to help Lillianna.

I like the idea of Lillianna getting the girls on board as HER guests including the well known Doctor who she hopes to get to her on some of her projects.

JC's friend to help us get to the crew quarts, we'll need to go there to get Grace a uniform so she can get on the bridge to get the information to unlock the ship for our escape also to get the boyfriend on Destiny.

I still like getting Asente to seduce the groom so Lillianna can denoun the cad and then Asente can have him. JC and the brothers can steal him blind with he's occupied.

Tes, Catie and Steph find out where the gun is stored and create distractions.

Ok, there are some idea seeds.

The crew had split off to the assignments Jon had doled out.
angela had returned with transmitter, the smile of successfully completing an shown on her face. "Hold that for Grace, we'll give her first crack at shutting that off", Jon said as he point to Angela's bundle.

Heading toward the door Jon placed his hand on Steph's arm and smiled as walked by. "I'm headed to the bridge to see what Tess's found. I think you and Angela have it handled here."

Jon heard Grace's voice over the comm as he stepped onto the bridge, “Good guess there.”

Stepping forward, "Everything under control here?" Tess gave him an affirmative and then told him about not being able to find the the other ship. Jon guessed she had been checking with Grace for help. "Ok, I'll watch things here, why don't you check in with Grace." By smirk on his pilot's face he had the feeling he'd just been used, "What?"

The pilot set the controls to auto and Jon slipped into the copilot's seat.
