Outside in the hallway, Lum hears the loud slam of the doors and sees through the glass the approach of the bots and his friends trapped behind the doors.

The big man rushes over to the glass door and is about smash through with his great axe. But something seemed to remind him about medical containment areas. They could self clean to remove bio hazards and that cleaning could harm his friends.

Lowering his axe he search walls, floor and ceiling for an access panel that might hold the controls and relays to the doors. He also looked for cameras and sensors that might trigger other evens.

If he could just open the doors as a normal function then the bio cleaning may not be triggered. If he found nothing then it may be worth the risk to try and smash through.

So are the door clear too? I am thinking framed clear glass like stuff so there is a seam in the middle between the panels.

Something Lum might try to pry apart or just try to smash through.

From his hid'n place above the cockpit of the Beowulf Asher watched things play out through his sniper's scope.

When things seemed to be calmed down and com'in to an end the kid could see Wyatt's cold draw still the steady the man in white what was lay'in all defeated like and bloody on the ground..... That little Colonel lady seemed to not quite be pleased at that. See'in her wave to one of folk she got some kind of papers and handed them the Captain.

Then the fella what was with Willow and the Guild folk pointed to an Arrowhead courier ship nearby and the cargo bay doors were opening.

Coming down the gangway, in a pink frilly housecoat barely long enough for modesty was Sam Dash. He was squinting in the light, and had two beautiful ladies behind him, dressed in business suits.

The kid nearly choked as a rush of memories came flooding back.

=========================

Storming out of his room and headed for Sam's he shouted, "SAM DASH you Feh Feh Pi Goh!" (Baboon's ass crack)

"Ghuh-Ghuh, (Big brother )I'm gonna get my stuff back."

He jerked to stop when hear the Capt'n's voice over the intercom.

"This is your captain,,.. Sam Dash has tendered his resignation and will no longer be flying with us. It was a difficult decision for him, an' he wishes all of you his best. He had some fond nonsense t' pass on t' each of ya; which if yer so inclined t' hear I'll share it with you in a more confidential setting later. ,.Meanwhile, this leaves us short a pilot and a job. So, git yer gear together an' git about yer day people. We got work t' do in order t' get back into the Black. I want to burn atmo as soon as possible."

Ash backed to wall and slid down to sit in the corridor....

Sam had been like his older brothers, teasing and tormenting, but always there when it counted. Now he was gone. Well, he'd left too, he should have known it would never be the same.

Hanging his head all he could say was, "Aw Sam,,,,"

===============================

Asher sat up on the hull and laid the rifle across his lap.

From way up there no one could see the tear that formed in the kid's eye. Beaming a broad goofy grin he could only say, "Aw...Sam".

I edited the shuttle bay post to include Nurse Toriak on the away team.

FYI, the security team is:
Lt Reid
PO Bryan Brady
PO Enpok T'Darin
CM Salia Rotet
CM James Galla

The posts should all work if Brom bumps his post to change the 4 to 8 for crew size.

Stardate 2365.02.11 (Thursday - 42143.8 )
USS Peregrine; Shuttle Sierra One - 11:07+

Toriak considers the idea of beaming naked, wounded people into the extremely tight quarters of the shuttlecraft. As these thoughts are considered the Vulcan nurse looks down at the medical away mission triage pack he has cradled in his lap and a thought occurs to him.

"Sir," he begins. "Reports from the Bridge indicate that those we are en route to bring into custody are severely injured. The information I've received would suggest that the five life forms we are tasked with recovering are barely alive. Perhaps stripping them of their dignity might not be necessary."

Addressing Nurse Toriak, "I regret having to think this way but I have encounter extremist before. I as I see it this was a small crew on a suicide mission to inflame conditions and ensure war instead of peace..as long as they are still alive they will continue to try and achieve their goal,. If they were to overpower us and use a Federation craft to attack, even a shuttle, it would inflame conditions perhaps beyond repair,,We are not facing a noble foe.. we do not have the chance to search and disarm them. I must consider your and the mission's safety before the discomfort of the survivors. ,,. This is not a humanitarian mission.. our main goal is to identify who made the attack, the why of it will have to come with further investigation. No offense Toriak, but I'd rather have one more security crewman over a nurse."

PO Tolaris pauses in his programming and swivels in his chair to better face the lieutenant. "Additionally, sir. The confines of this vessel will severely restrict their movement. Strictly speaking," the Vulcan tilts his head to the left in an attempt to affect some appearance of humanity, "the captain would not have likely sent a shuttle—heavy though it may be—manned by a mere four Starfleet personnel to retrieve five terrorists if he thought them dangerous still.

John addressed the transporter specialist, "PO..the Captain sent nearly the equivalent of two of his four security team on this mission. That alone shows me his concern. Nearly half of Peregrine's security is out here to identify and bring back these survivors.. that is significant."

Tolaris considered the Lieutenant's comments then replied, "The transporter sensors will automatically detect any harmful substances such as those that would be used in an explosive device and if it will ease your concern, I can retain the life forms' bio-signature in the transporter buffers long enough to perform a full scan of the molecular data. Should there be any sign of weaponry within their signature, we can address the situation at that time."

"Now that's why I asked for a transporter specialist, you know best what you can do with these beams. If that can be done then make it so." John nodded to the PO.

"Perhaps," Toriak adds, "we can erect a level two force field encompassing the latter three quarters of the shuttle. If you and I, sir, move up against the backs of the front seats we might be able to create a limited simulation of a brig cell to contain any potential threat while we further assess the life forms' condition."

"That's a good thought," John acknowledged. "But just a meter beyond the platform should due. If what Tolaris says is how things work then containment to just beyond the transporter platform should due. If after they are all retrieved, they can be isolated and confined. If nothing else they will be restrained to the bulkhead."

"A decision bettuh be made soon," Megan quips, "we've no' much time left before we come within range o' the Stormspike."

"It's done pilot..time for you and Tolaris to work your magic,. Security, weapons on stun..if they make any aggressive moves take no chances and put them down."

As the Sierra came into transporter range Tolaris ran his scan and locked on to the first survivor, "Sir,engaging transporter."

The shimmer of the beam filled the transport platform as the first survivor was pulled to shuttle.

Brom... you and I may need to make a few adjustments to our posts on crew size.

The Type-8 holds 2 flight crew and six passengers. Berk was instructed by the Captain to send six security folk to retrieve the survivors. I had Reid reduce his usual teams to allow him to lead and keep the six as requested. We have now added a Med person so we now have nine on board. I'll amend my earlier post reduce the security team by one more to allow for the nurse.

It says the type-8 has a large cargo area that allow for the additional six passengers, I figure that refers to fold down seating along the bulkheads but there should be plenty of aisle and floor space to handle the five survivors. The prisoners will be shackled in the seats or to securing tie down mounts usually located on the floor to hold cargo in place.

Based upon the frame of the Type-6, the Type-8 Shuttlecraft is the most capable follow-up in the realm of personnel shuttles. Only slightly larger, the Type-8 is equipped with a medium-range transporter and has the ability to travel within a planet's atmosphere. With a large cargo area that can also seat six passengers, the shuttle is a capable transport craft. Slowly replacing its elder parent craft, the Type-8 is now seeing rapid deployment on all medium to large starships, as well as to Starbases and stations throughout the Federation.

I would guess there are two jump seats backed against front pilot and copilot. Then two foldout seats on each bulkhead. That would leave the usual cargo area aft still fairly open. Although I didn't find a cross section of the newer shuttles in my Star Fleet Tech Manual it shows the older style and this could be consistent.

As for being naked, John has dealt with fanatical groups before and feels this is a suicide mission so he is not worried about hurting their feelings. I'll post that in my response to the nurse.

Subject: The Kid...........

Asher Talhone is the fifth child (of six) of Job and Mary Talhone. The Talhones worked the family farm, an impressive operation owned by Asher's grandfather, Simon Talhone. Asher grew up milking cows, haying fields, and moving herds through the ranch lands.

The ranch on Ezra was all Asher had known; it was filled with family and the good honest work that brought folk together. Matt and Ben had showed him how to milk a cow, teasing him about pulling down that cow teat to make it squirt in the bucket. "You just grab it and squeeze, if you do it smooth enough Bessy here will give you a big facelick and follow you all day." They laughed as he tried and tried but nothing came out. "Now Ash just squeeze it from top to end, like rolling your finger, not full fist." They all roared as the milk shot out this time missing the bucket and covering his boots. "Ma's gonna have a fit if'n ya try to bring milk home in your boots instead of the pail." They all laughed again."

Those were good times, Ma took care of her "baby boy". Most of the house chores were his and his little sister's. "The bigger boys could tend the farm", she used say, "I need you here to keep things straight; your time will come soon enough."

It came all too soon, the Alliance started pushing it weight round way out there in Ezra. Matt and Ben didn't think it right and they joined the Independents movement. They looked mighty fine in their Brown coats. But even on a dusty old farming world like Ezra the Alliance came in force. Matt and Ben had been called to duty not too far from the family ranch. Word had just reached them that they perished in the first wave of the Alliance assault.

Them purplebellies didn't seem to care where they bombed or strafed. A couple of days later those ships came over the farm. Ma was running out to get Miriam to the tornado shelter; Gramps was sitt'n out in his rocker. Ma had just got to the front porch as something big rocketed in. The roar and flash took the whole front of house off, leaving only smoke, fire and a large creator. The ships just kept on going, they never even circled back to see their damage. Pa screamed and crawled through rubble, but there wasn't nothing left. The porch, Gramps and Ma were just gone.

Things got bad then, Pa just couldn't take loosing Ma. Pa would sit or wander, always a bottle in his hand. Jacob and Andy took to running the ranch. Time had come to learn to ride, plant, harvest, herd and all the other things the "bigger boys" used to do. Miriam took care of Pa and tended to house now.

The war took its toll on the planet too. The fighting had killed the Governor and most of the law enforcement. Criminal lords began staking the claims, taking over good folk's land, and pressing them into slavery or shooting them dead.

It wasn't long before the land jumpers started coming in stealing folk's ranches and homes. A puffed up bully, Waylend Gayner, staked his claim on the Talhone land, and "invited" Job to leave peacefully and without a fuss. The prospect of losing the family farm sobered Job up right quick. The Talhones decided to protect their lands and beat back this upstart off-worlder. It wasn't right and that's when Job brought out the guns. Enough was enough and it was time to stand up for what was right and protect those you loved. Folk around the farm appreciated what the Talhomes did and joined in to help. Soon there were enough to push the land grabber back. It didn't take Asher long to learn how use pistols, rifles and few other toys that were left over from the war. Waylend did not back down so easy, though, and he was supported by Adelei Niska. The private war went on for six months, each side inflicting heavy casualties.

The But right comes with a price sometimes. By the time Waylend was dead, Jacob and Andrew gave up their lives protecting friend and innocents. They died honorably and were missed by many. Even with Waylend gone, the Talhone's troubles were not over. Adelei Niska, angered by the loss of control of the area, sent more men to track down the usurpers. Hearing the news, and not unwilling to lose his youngest boy, Job convinced Asher to leave Ezra, only to return when things had cooled down.

That was two years ago.

Asher joined the crew of the Rocinante though a mutual connection shared with Wyatt. The captain was looking for man who could handle himself in a fight; Asher had gained a bit of a reputation for liking guns. The kid respected Wyatt's and it felt right.

Asher was fascinated with the ship and flying. On the farm he'd watched his dad and brother work on the equipment but was never allowed to tinker. There were so many amazing things that kept them in the sky he just wanted to know how the worked. The ship's engineer ,Nora , had finally given in and started to show Asher more about the ship and he had a thirst to learn more. He knew he would never be an engineer but it was fascinating and maybe someday it would save his friends.

And while there are many great things about the Rocinante, it is Trish who really keeps the young lad on the ship. Asher has taken a liking to the mature woman . Trish reminds him of his mother, and Asher nearly treats her as such.

Ash took his responsibility seriously and quickly assembled a formidable collection of weapons. Wyatt was never sure how or where the kid had gathered what he had, but never questioned it either. It was just known by the crew that Asher had most of what he needed to protect them and the Roc, It was also known that you didn't "borrow" any of it.

John let out a laugh as he secured the gear bag he'd carried on board. "We've got a red haired Irish pilot and calm and collected Vulcan in the front seats, well let's show'um what Fire and Ice can do."

Petty Officer Tolaris raised an eyebrow, "Ice?....Sir."

"Take it as compliment and just roll with it."

Megan let out nervous giggle, "Aye Sir, ye cunna be in betta hands, let's show'um how it's done Toly."

The Vulcan tilted his head,,,"Toly?"

Megan laughed again, "Oh jus roll with it."

"Aye maam,.I will, as you say, roll with it."

John could almost swear he saw Tolaris smile. "I hope the video surveillance is working,we need to verify who we pull off that ship. If things go bad for us that record will tell who was behind the attack,. Tolaris..can you extract just the bio material and leave any metal or cloth behind?"

"Sir..the life forms would be naked when we retrieve them.", Toly looking at him quizzically.

"Yes, I know,,. but they would also be unarmed and not carrying any bombs on board,. it would also cause them to hesitate before trying to rush us, gives my men time to subdue them,, once they are cuffed and shackled we'll cover them with a blanket."

"I see..seems logical,I will attempt to comply,.but I suggest you keep phasers drawn.", replied the Vulcan.

"Seems logical..," replied John.

Memorial Day 2017:

This Saturday morning we once again gathered at Western Reserve National Cemetery to honor and respect the final resting place for many of those that have served in this nations Armed Forces. I am now one of only two people (the last volunteer)that have attended every memorial decoration ceremony since the cemetery was opened. I am blessed to still be able to attend and honor those who have served. This includes my father who had served in WWII and was interred here in 2003.

After the memorial service the group of several hundred volunteers made up of Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and civic groups placed flags on about 33,000 grave sites. With that much support it took less than a hour.

I hope many of you will take a moment to remember and say "Thank You" to those that served.

I know this site has an international reach and I wish to thank all those that stood together in great times of need.

Remember all those that helped keep all of us free.

"Thank You."
