Subject: To Sea................

The dock seemed to stretch out forever. He was one with the land and now he would be beyond her sight. As a boy he’s learned to swim the rivers but now this boat would carry him away. The thought of leaving the land was the most frightening thing he’d even done.

Tohmas was the last up the gangway. As Mad Dog started his introductions of the crew the Druid placed his gear by the mast. Tohmas thought if he sat there below the edge of gunnels he would only see the sky. To keep his mind off the trip he listened closely to the man that had given them the gold. All of his men showed their clan loyalty by wearing his totem. The eye patch that showed the image of the toothless dragon and each wore it with pride.

Once everyone had been introduced, Mad Dog Muldoon handed each of the 10 adventurers a matching black eye patch stitched with the Red Toothless Dragon design!

"Ye Kin Wear Em! Ye Kin Carry Em!

"Jes Keep Em Close At Hand N Safe!

"Ye Never Know Jes When Er Where Ye Need Ta Show These Fer Safe Passage Or Help!"

Tohmas noticed that Captain Crayfish, Dagger and the Stout Hearts exchanged knowing glances at one another! He would remember that Mad Dod’s totem must be kept, there was more to these then just a loyalty totem.

Tohmas sat himself down at the mast and for next five days through rain, storm, dark and sun he meditated and chanted. The only times he left his place was to get food or to relieve himself. He thought these sailors strange to call the place you sat a “head”. From time to time Crow would come by or others in the group, Tohmas welcomed them and shared stories of homes and people. The shaman grew to feel closer to these that would his clan for a while.

When the sixth came and land was sighted. The Captain garthered the group and had the first mate give them each some coins explaining to them that the coins are for any expenses they may encounter after they enter the city!

"Any Expenses! Any Expenses!"

Tohmas rose and scanned the shoreline. As the ship passed into an inlet the debries of many ruined ships lay along the beach. This was not a peaceful place. By passing the wrecks they travel a way farther before they were put ashore. Traveling inland seven of the crew set up a defensive camp as the party traveled farther up the rise.
Cresting the rise they saw the remains of a decimated city. Rubble lay where clearly building once stood. Tohmas listened as the others discussed that this could not the city that had shown on their maps. The mountain range in the distance also did not show.

The talk got to whether or not go and search the remains. They could return to the ship and sail around to the city on the map. Tohmas had enough of ships for now and glad to be on firm ground again.

“Even if we find nothing we may learn something, let us see to the city. From there we can cross the mountains. What we are sent to seeker will not likly be in a new city.”

Subject: About The Town...............

Towns were not the areas where Tohmas felt comfortable. Roaming the plain and forest, finding natural shelters or sleeping under the stars was what he knew. The young Shaman had seen the one called Crow among those gathered to answer the call for “Seeker”. He had crossed paths with ranger in the lands to the north and perceived him to be more experienced in these crowded settlements. Knowing that knowledge brought strength the plainsman persuaded the Elf to show him the ways of the city. They traveled the crisscrossing paths and trials lined by wood and stone lodges. Tohmas learned that these were not just lodgings, but many were only for trade and those provided food and services. There parts of the town where the women were very friendly, they beckoned to come join them, but Crow drew him away. Tohmas wondered why the ranger did not want to enjoy the pleasures of the ladies, but he figured the Elf had his reasons. Perhap it had something to with the ranger not wearing a cover on his head. Those that spent much time in the sun and rain know to protect their head. The Elf had made joke to the broad brimmed leather hat Tohmas wore. The Shaman felt he could repay the ranger by advising him to “get his own”, but the ranger didn’t seem to understand and continued to joke. His teachers had been correct that too time in the hot sun without protect could cook your thought.

But at least Crow taught him that in the town they traded their coins for food and drink. The ranger also showed him that he didn’t need to sleep in the stable but instead he could stay in the lodge in his own room with a bed raised on legs. There was bedding and a large stuffed sack that cover the raised frame, much like the piles of grass he had been taught to gather to place beneath blankets. But the most odd item was a pot that was tucked away under the bed. He nearly fell over laughing when Crow told him of it use. Why would a person wish to keep their excrement in their living space and expect someone else to dispose of it? Although this did answer his thought of where these towns folk went to relieve themselves. It wasn’t like they had peaceful grove.

As the days pasted Tohmas learned much of the life in the town. Crow finally explained that the ladies traded their affection for coins and that sometimes they would rob those they were with or perhaps a brigand would ambush the unsuspecting. Tohmas was now able to find his way alone and memorized the way to the docks.

The day finally arrived when they were set off on their journey. Rising early Tohmas found a quiet location for his morning devotions. Completing his respects to Altira, and now familiar with the ways of the Inn, he ordered a hearty breakfast, settled his debt for the room and left the remained of him coin in safe keeping at the Inn. Tohmas was eager to learn more of the ways of those outside the “People”. This knowledge would help him find the fabled lands, but now he had to travel on the water. Travel had always been along the land so he could move among the clans. The plains and forests were his domain, why would he bypass them. The thought of not having firm ground beneath his feet gave him pause. Would separation from the land separate him from his goddess?

Arriving at the dock Tohmas saw that the ranger was already there, perhaps he was eager or he felt it was his place scout the area first. Tohmas was teller than most the group that had gathered at the Inn and he did not wish to draw attention to himself so he assumed a pose of contemplation next to Crow while they waited for the others to arrive.

Tactical Suit: This is the armor Alliance
Federals wear, usually with a Squad Helmet. The suit
covers the entire body and is armored with ceramic
and composite plates, along with heavy padding. It
will stop a heap of damage, but tends to rattle when
you walk.

Helmet, Squad: This helmet originated with
the Alliance during the war. It functions in the same
way as an Infantry Helmet, but also includes a small
communicator to allow members of a squad to
stay in constant communication. Unfortunately, the
design impedes hearing and peripheral vision.

So these guys are open to a gas grenade?

That's why most of this stuff is not the deadly items. Smoke and EMP's are not life threatening. The flash-bangs are bit most aggressive, but hey this is from the guy that got blown out of the second story of the jailhouse a while ago.

As for guns I think his GRZ 1 is about this accurate rifle, the big area blasters are with Wolf and John.

As for the spooking our passengers, well don't you remember the old westerns where they stampeded the cattle to create a diversion?

I read somewhere the kid had two EMP's that had a blast area effect of about 10 feet. But I now I can't find where I saw it. If I can't find it again I may have to retrack the post.

I'm sure I saw it somewhere, but if the Boss says "No" I'll rewrite with gas instead. The gas would knockout the guy in the ship if he wasn't wearing a gasmask.
------------------------------
Found it.

1 x Box of Mag Charges (2 charges/ 56c)
Mag Charge: A short-range, electromagnetic
pulse charge
, about the size of a large battery.
Unless the electrical equipment is hardened against
EMP waves (which is extremely difficult, if not
impossible to do fully)
, all electrical equipment
in the 10’ affected radius will short out and stop
working until repaired. Most ships possess enough
redundancies so that one of these will not cause
fatal problems, but using them aboard a space vessel or atmospheric craft is not advised.

I could see in war time the extra precaution to wrap everything, but I'd say these Fed's are too lazy.

Subject: Gotcha Covered...........

LV-426, Emergency Landing Field 8:00 am PT

The sunlight crept up ramp and Ash and Wyatt stood in the cargo bay. As they watched an ASREV came into view behind the Roc and the kid notes that that put its guns right on them. As the dust was settling Wyatt commented, “That’s no rescue, ……Why send one ship t’ help with the evacuation? Get outta sight and make sure ya got something with range an’ accuracy in case things go south, don ma? an’ git the others here ready t’ assist.”

Asher nodded and slipped the GRZ 1 around so Wyatt could see it, “Gotcha covered boss.”

Wyatt headed down the ramp and the kid backup a bit to watched the ASREV land. After it had settled a man in the black uniform and trench coat of the federal Marshalls stepped followed by other men, dressed in full Alliance military armor and carrying assault rifles slung over their shoulder.

“That don’t look good!” the kid said to himself. As he watched he notice there were only three coming down the ASREV ramp. Keying his comm., ”Cap’t, there’s only three there, should be four. They’re leav’in one on the guns.” The gunslinger thought quickly, “Maybe I got a little sumptum,… them EMP’s might come in handy here.”

He rushed back to his room and dug out two EMP grenadesf, some flash bangs and smokers. Heading back toward the cargo he met Tess and Ma. Rushing up to them he handed them each one.

“There’s a ASREV out there with its gun trained on us…it don’t look like no rescue party… if thing start to turn to Joo Fuen Chse try to toss one these inside that thing near the controls…..they’re EMPs and it should shut down their guns.” Ash didn’t wait for their comments as he rushed to find a spot where he could cover Wyatt.

Subject: Gotcha Covered............

I've been busy but still thinking on a post. Ash gave the SPAS30 and JC39 to Wolf and John. He is carrying the GRZ1 so he has some good fire power. The GRZ1 might be able to pierce the body armor, it should at least rattle them.

Now we saw three emerge from the ASREV but there is usually a crew of four, so there is still one manning the guns. Those ships weapons will most likely be electronically controlled. Soooooooooo, Ash has two EMP grenades, if he slips one to Tess and Ma one of them might be able to set it off in the ASREV when the actions starts. (I can post that plan to them as retreats back in to get a better position.) That will cut the weapons and ground the ASREV. Ash has some flashbangs and smoke to liven things up.

Seem good to you or ya got a different idea?

Tohmas stood quietly behind the folks as they scanned over the pictures the man had called maps. He could see what looked like drawings with lines and shapes and words. They resembled the pictures the Shaman drew in the dirt to show the people where to find food and water. He had never seen it placed on hide to carry. Maybe he find one of these that showed had to get the fabled lands.

Among those gathered he saw an Elven woodsman he had met in the northern country. The man had seemed to understand the ways of nature and treaded lightly upon the earth. Raising his hand he gave the ranger the sign of “friend”. There were still several days before they would leave, perhaps the ranger would know how to spend time in a town.

Glad to see some in character posts about the group talking over the maps.

We need someone to step up and take charge of the maps.

Crow is a ranger but he he may not be the right one to carry the maps.

Maybe the lady bard would be the one to keep all these young turks in line. Her Elven sence of order and organization might lend well to that.

The Gnome might work in character too.

Arelder is the oldest human so it might be natural for the other to tend to listen to him and fellow him for a bit..

I vote the illusionist as starting leader.

Subject: Tohmaz Goodwood, Shaman of the Wimachtendienk…..

In the time before most men could remember, his people had lived in the Northern Marches of New Aenoch. They had stayed even when others felt the land turning to evil. When the Horned One had released his horde they were among the last driven out.

In small bands they wandered wide, covering all of the known lands. So it was that they would be there to serve and protect, then move on. Among themselves they were known as “Wimachtendienk”, the Brotherhood. Those outside the people only knew that they had been help by the wild folks passing through and never realized that the Brotherhood was ever watching over the land.

The children of the people stayed with their birth mother. She tended their needs and sheltered them, but the tribe raised them. Although the birth father may be known, he was just the one that give the seed of life, the tribe rejoiced in that life, all taking part in the raising and teaching of the children. So it was that all were of the same family. The pairing of a man and a woman was not seen as something that was permanent unless those two chose to make it so. But this did not change the feeling of love and respect that was shared among the people. The sharing of seed and the bringing of life were part of the natural order.

As the young grew they felt the love of the people around them and in turn learned to love and respect all. They learned to love and respect nature. They learned to track and tread lightly upon the land, to hunt, to cook, make the daily things a tribe may need. They also learned to protect the people, the knife, the tomahawk, the lance and the bow became as part of them. The ways of war were taught as these were still unsafe times. Each of them then choosing what they felt the strongest, be that serving the needs in the camp, providing for the band, tending the needs of the body or protecting the people.
Tohmaz found he had a sense of the forest, the balance of nature and healing those in need. To this end he dedicated himself to Goddess Atira.

He had grown up hearing of the wilds at the foot of the Ridge. His heart yearned to see the lands of fable. He hoped that someday he could walk the old Forrest in her name and heal it from the deeply root evil that had so long dwelt there. And perhaps one day carry her healing power beyond to Blighted Screed.

With this dedication came the choice that he would have to leave his band. He would wander the lands learning the secrets of the plants and animals. Also seeking out the wise and learned of the people. Living with them, serving them and learning from them the secrets of the life forces. Plants, animals and the land itself had names, ways that he must know.

The Shaman of each band shared the rites and ways to relieve suffering, to cure diseases, heal wounds and to relieve pain. Through their teachings he learned how the human touch could aid in the healing of mind and spirit. The tender caress, the warmth of the body soothed and calmed. The Shaman also led him to those from outside of the “People” that shared their ways and knowledge. To them the Shaman were considered “Wild Druid”. The Druids accepted the Shaman and taught them their ways, spells and language.

The years passed and the boy grew to Manhood. Tohman stood tall, over six foot. His dark tanned body was strong and muscular. The sandy brown hair was tied back in a ponytail with a leather band around his head to keep any stray hair from falling in his eyes. His voice was a rich baritone that made the reciting of rituals sound almost like song. Dark brown eyes were set deep in chiseled face. It was little wonder that the woman of the bands took him and taught him the ways of pleasure. They shared themselves with him and taught him how to bring joy to the woman he was with. The harmony of spirit and love of people strengthened his healing skills.

The Shaman also taught him the ways of logic. To see what was best for all and how guide others to these ends. To learn that it is not the imposed will on the people that made things right, but right that made the will of the people. That great events can start from a small nudge. They taught him of his responsibility to uphold the high ideals, to be prepared and to not bring ill light on the ways of the Shaman. For it only take one false heart to taint all.

The day came when the teachers turned him out. They had nothing more to teach. He now had to wander, practice his skills and find his way. The time would come when he would find the band that would need him and he would stay with them. So as he departed he was given simple basic supplies. His clothing he had made himself, breeches, loin cloth, deer skin shirt and soft soled boots. He had tooled hide into leather and the leather into strong protective armor. The silhouette of a woman’s face was tooled below his left shoulder, the face of Atira. The armor was both strong and light weight, colored to bland in to the forest. It would help protect from the elements as well as attackers weapons. A floppy broad brimmed leather hat protected his head and eyes from the sun and rain. A long blade sheath knife and tomahawk hung from a waist belt. A strong hunting bow and quiver of arrows hang the backpack he had sewn. A warm wool sleeping blanket was rolled and tied to the pack. A reinforce water pouch hung from a long strap over his shoulder. In his pack were sacks of dried food and grain, flint and a sparker, bowls, sewing supplies, simple tools and rope.

Towmaz set out and for two years traveling alone. He served and healed the people and those other humans that crossed his path. His skills in the forest to heal damage that raiding Orcs and other creatures had brought him feeling closer to his Goddess. He helped farmers to bring their lands to bare crops where once was barren land. He could feel Atira’s presents and felt guided by her will. The old feeling of his youth grew stronger; the he wanted to return to the old lands and to cleanse them in the name of Atira.

He journeyed near the city of Heristat. Here he heard of a call for the strong of heart to travel and free the land that had been held by the evil for so long. This must be the will of Atira; that he should go to learn how to find a way the to Saelic Forest. So Tohmaz sought out where they were seeking volunteers. When he arrived there they were still taking members so he made his mark in the book. The Shaman took the gold offer but then had placed it in safe keeping for him. As he listened to the man that had called for the seekers he heard they must travel by boat. He had never been on a boat before and he was uneasy to go on board.

----------------------
Morning Three Days Later.........

Being one of last he gathers his pack and walked to dock and up the gangway. He had expected to see many onboard, but there few besides the crew. There were barely enough for a hunting party, was this to the band he would serve? Carrying his pack to the center of the boat Tohmaz sat on the deck so he couldn’t see the water and leaned against the mast.
