...about my own extended absence. Been lots of not-so-fun stuff muddying up the waters of my life lately and, as such, keeping me from paying due attention to my "true refuge" here at the Inn.

I'm certainly ready to slip back into Tochi's skin, of course, and will endeavor to do so in a timely manner (as in, I might just convince myself to get back on top of all the backposting I need to do TODAY).

Aaaaand... ZekeVonMarkson - shoot me a PM re: joining the Peregrine and we'll certainly see what we can do about getting you aboard. (Or, mayhaps, just be on the lookout for a PM from me to you... You'll never see it coming until AFTER the facelick, but, still. )

I was planning on doing that, myself!

Okay, I think I'm more or less caught up (you guys have been busy)... I will admit to "skimming" a bit, here and there, but believe I'm up to speed on what's happening where and when... starting a post as soon as I finish typing this.

I think I've dug myself out from under, at last, though, and am currently trying to catch up. Hoping to have a post later today (or maybe several smaller posts throughout the course of the day).

I'm back, I'm back!

This working from home business is a lot trickier when the wife is on winter break for two weeks... "free time" just kinda goes right out the window, you know?

Catching up and hoping to have a post or two ready today!

I've got compost for daaaaaaayyyyyyys!!!

Sorry about my lacking and slacking in the post department... been a hectic couple of weeks. I'll try and get something put together soon... and if anyone needs that compost, let me know.

Been a gut punch of a few days where "free time" has been concerned... work has been unusually busy for this time of year and, of course, the holiday stuff has been non-stop... will try to get a post composed today or tomorrow at latest.

...every time you hit the Applaud button, you are registering "positive karma" for that Innmate; however, if you've already applauded that particular Innmate in the same thread, it doesn't "up the count," so to speak. Basically, the new applaud replaces the old one, if you want to look at it that way.

Command is a shift in the "Big Chair." Nine times out of ten, all that really means is that you're the "shift supervisor" and have the leeway to make executive/command decisions where the hour-to-hour running of the ship is concerned... if anything goes seriously sideways, wake up the Captain or the XO.

Anyhoo... the Thanksgiving/drag out Christmas rush has subsided and, with luck, I'll have a post or two ready to go in a couple of hours or less...

Oh... applauds... if you've already applauded someone on a thread, you can't applaud them again (well, you can, but it doesn't up the applaud count... unless you smite them, first, then applaud them again, or something. )

What Brennus said!

During her duty shift, Ens Blackmon can count on monitoring sensors, security reports, weapons system readiness/efficiency, shield status, etc... and could you open a channel to IKEA? I saw a dresser that'd look great in my quarters.

...I'll do what I can to have a Tochi post up in response to Ens Blackmon's arrival in the next few hours or so.

As to the duties of a Tactical Officer:

"The Tactical Officer was an officer stationed at the console that controlled a ship's weaponry and shields.

On Starfleet vessels, the tactical officers job was to maintain weapon and shield readiness along with executing firing solutions. These solutions could range from a low intensity phaser beam or to plot a torpedo firing pattern. Security chiefs frequently doubled as tactical officers, though the two roles were not required to be filled by the same person..."

It's also possible that the TAC officer would handle communications in a lot of cases... depends on how things are arranged with OPS.

Boo Boo - I figure that Dana should have her access to Lauren within 10-15 minutes following her convo with Tochi, so she should be good to visit the brig by 1500.

As far as Blackmon goes, feel free to make whatever updates you deem appropriate. She was briefly played as a PC by Red Sector A and I believe she looked a bit like Evangeline Lilly a la the Ant Man movie. That said, she hasn't really been described much in post or beyond the roster entry, so free reign as far as I'm concerned.

Aaaand, yeah, Tochi's well aware of how quickly scuttlebutt travels through our tiny little ship... His irritation is more likely attributable to a looooooong day and very little sleep as opposed to the word spreading as quickly as it did.

USS Peregrine; Deck 5 - Observation Lounge "The Aerie" - 13:07

"Does it bother you that we're representing Chief Crane, Asovil?" He shakes his head and waves his hand as if to erase any possible misinterpretation of the question from the air. "That, perhaps, isn't the proper way to phrase that query," His gaze dips to the shimmering black surface of the katheka that still fills his mug, ",Given what I've just said in regards to how I feel about you, would you prefer that I recuse myself as Lauren's advocate? We ask you, as a scientist, and as analytical as your ilk can be, would you deem my representation of Chief Crane as a conflict of interest?"

Raising her manicured eyebrows in surprise mimicked by the sudden setting back of her antennae, the Andorian woman finds herself shaking her head. "I will not have you worrying about administering your duties just because we happen to fancy each other. I would find it insulting if you did otherwise."

The Trill smiles and offers an appreciative nod at her response. He had assumed she would answer so but, for the sake of both the forthcoming proceedings and this burgeoning relationship with Asovil, Tochi felt the question had to be asked. He breaks off a piece of the honar and tops the flat-bread with a bite of the fea arel, as the Andorian woman continues.

"I do not know Lauren Crane by anything more than our brief interaction and her record." Light blue hands shift the navy blue mug of bitter brown liquid a scant inch from the edge of her plate and then refocus to retrieve the fork that had been brought with the food. "Her record appears to be impeccable, and you seem to think highly of her. That leaves me with nothing by her most recent action to decide her character, and I can only say that she appears to have made a very costly mistake."
His mouth full, Tochi can offer little more than a nod and a faint gesture of concurrence with her analysis. He didn't know Lauren well, per se, as well as any XO knows any of his crew, but Asovil's appraisal was accurate.

"My concern with your task of advocating for Chief Crane is nothing more than finding you in an impossible position." Cutting into her meal, the scientist pauses before lifting the morsel to her mouth. "Impossible because of the admitted guilt and mitigating facts, not because of your ability."

"Your flattering estimation of our ability aside," Tochi chuckles, "Impossible positions are written into the job description, we believe," He sets his fork on the edge of his plate and smiling, glances out the window at the passing stars, "Written into what it means to live for that matter." The Trill's eyes track back to hers, then, and, along with a smile, he offers an expansive gesture. "Astrogation, diplomacy, science, even music; every one will, at some point, present you with obstacles that seem insurmountable. At times, those can be removed or circumvented; other times, they're just as impassable as they appear, frustrating as that may be. Either way, we learn."

Placing the delicious, juicy plant into her mouth, she chews thoughtfully and sets the fork on the edge of her plate. Swallowing, she lightly shrugs her shoulders and says, "I also don't know Captain Drake well enough to even formulate an opinion on how he'll address the situation."

"Hmmm," Tochi mumurs, his smile skewing into a more contemplative expression as his fork hovers midway between plate and mouth, "knowing Silas as we do, the word ‘severely' comes to mind. He's not the sort to be swayed by a sad song, especially given the nature of the infraction." He returns the speared morsel of food to the plate. "Had he become aware of the situation while still docked at the starbase, we're sure that Mister Crane would have been relieved of duty, discharged from the Peregrine, and left there pending a full Court Martial."

((OOC: Think I'm going to leave it there and see which way the conversation goes, Tag!))

Stardate 2365.02.09 (Tuesday 42138.7)
USS Peregrine; Deck 1 - Bridge - 14:45

=/=Chief Cook to Captain Drake.=/= The woman's tone is flat and serious.

,Tochi's gaze drifts away from Megan, toward the door to Drake's ready room, as he settles back in the chair, again, and taps at the console on his right, intercepting the nurse's hail. "Captain Drake is currently unavailable, Chief," he informs her, "Is there something we can do for you?"

=/=Sir,=/= there is a brief hesitation before the woman continues, =/=I understand that PO Crane was sentenced to 3 days in the Brig on a bread and water restriction.=/=

"She was," Zai replies simply. The Mast ended not fifteen minutes ago, he thinks, and, it would seem, details of Lauren's punishment have already made their way through the ship even before they have been properly recorded. We'll need to arrange a briefing to discuss tact and discretion, it seems.

=/=Sir, per Starfleet Medical Regulation 927.6 any prisoner restricted to bread and water must have their medical condition established at the beginning of the confinement as well as after each 24 hours, and at their release,=/= Dana pauses to take a breath, =/=I request your permission to examine PO Crane now, and each 24 hrs while she is confined in the Brig and to certify her fitness prior to her return to due.=/=

"We are aware of that regulation, Chief," Lt Zai replies, tapping the console, now, to open the file he'd hesitated over just moments ago,"and, the moment Mr Crane's files have been updated, per regulation, Medical will be provided access. However, as the Captain's Mast ended only twenty some odd minutes ago, those updates have yet to be processed. Might we ask, Chief Cook, precisely how you've come to be made aware of the results so quickly?"

Again, there is a brief hesitation, and was that a chuckle?, before CPO Cook replies. =/=As you know Lieutenant, the only thing faster than a Warp-capable ship is its scuttlebutt.=/=

Tochi spikes a brow at that and, leaning back into the chair, rubs at his chin as a mildly bemused (and possibly slightly irritated?) smirk plays on his lips. The mention of the ship's rumor mill sent his mind back to his lunch with Asovil and the ‘conversation' that very topic had evoked then. "So it is, Chief," he chuffs dryly.

A finger stabs at the console, entering his updates into Lauren's file. "We're making the updates, now," Zai adds, you should have it soon."

=/=I will watch for the file update, Sir,=/= Cook responds, =/=Thank you for your time.=/=

"You're welcome, Mr Cook." His finger hovers over the console, now, prepared to close the channel,

=/=Oh, Sir?=/=

,Zai's finger stops within a millimeter of the COMM icon; "Chief?"

=/=Thank you for representing Lauren. I know you did your best and I am sure she appreciated it.=/=

"Of course, Dana," the XO offers sincerely, "It was our pleasure."

=/=Cook out.=/=

The channel closes, leaving Tochi to blink once at the display before returning his attentions to the file updates.

Most definitely doable! In fact, I should revisit Crewman Adler in ENG... get back on that Bachmann got a boo boo scenario.

Also, if anyone wants to nab any of the NPCs in flight control, feel free to help yourselves.

Post(s) for Tochi coming soon. Sorry it's taking so long. Work's been busy as the gov't likes to "wrap things" for the year around this time, it seems, so there's always a flurry of reporting and projecting to get out of the way.
