I bet you say that to all the Eol's...

I'm looking forward to playing with you, as well, Princess. And Meri and Malek, too, of course... Like I said, an interesting little "starter group" we've got here... Curious to see how that group dynamic works out.

...looks like we oughta have a decent little crew of zombie-burgers going, here! Since the rest of you have posted up your character concepts, I figured I'd probably do the same... so, excerpted from the bit I sent The Boss... Heeeere's Tommy "Murph" Murphy:

Early to mid-30’s; 5’10”; 180 lbs or thereabouts; close-cropped brown hair (like a military cut that’s started to grow out), hazel eyes… Figure maybe this guy was in the service (regular Army or Natl Guard) and did a tour in Iraq or something (i.e. Tank mechanic or some such, so not an infantry type but familiar with pistols and rifles to a degree)… Came home and picked up a job at a local garage and is ‘just getting by’ these days; makes enough to pay rent on his tiny apartment, put food in his belly when he’s hungry, and leaves him enough left over to stop by the bar on his way home a couple times a week… He’s got an ex-wife and a kid that he wonders about way more often than he hears from or about them… I figure he’s dressed in work clothes (work boots, grease stained pants, and a shirt with the company/garage name on a patch over one pocket and a name patch that reads ‘Murph’ over the other. Probably has a folding knife in his pocket and a multi tool (leatherman) on his belt, a wallet with his ID, a worn picture of his ex and his kid, and maybe 40 bucks in it, a lighter and a pack of smokes in his shirt pocket and that’s about it (figure he might have a beater of a vehicle parked outside the bar with a toolbox or somesuch in it, but I don’t imagine he thought to grab any of that stuff before our group of survivors barricaded themselves in the basement…)

Personality wise, he’s probably a nice enough guy (a little rough around the edges, maybe, being used to hanging out in garages and bars and the sort of banter that goes on in such places) but, due to his stint in the service, has enough leadership skills (and experience in hostile territory) to not have really ‘cracked’ at what’s going on quite yet… probably got a pretty solid worry about his ex and his kid underlying things, though.

As far as character sheets, all I have is the one I sent you originally... if you've updated that one, I'll need a copy... if not, I'm in good shape.

Subject: Well... this is a bad omen, isn't it?

With no way to ascertain what might lie in wait beyond (and, thus, not even the faintest of clues as to why the hairs Dapple saw had been placed on the outside of the doors and windows) the decision was made to enter the temple through the front door. Flynn, per Arien’s command, took up position at the rear of the party and minded the gardens and path behind them as they advanced up the steps. His gaze, followed by the tip of the arrow still nocked in his bow, swept a slow, scrutinizing circuit around the landscape, ready for anyone or anything to spring an ambush should they have been waiting for this moment to do so. Only when he heard the doors swing open (and smelled the sickly sweet scent of death that the temple breathed out as a result) did the bard abandon his surveillance of what lay behind them and turn to look on the horrific scene. The tension he’d held on the bowstring eased, the point of the arrow dipped towards the ground, and his jaw dropped open as the gruesome sight filled his vision and etched itself into his mind…

“By the sea and stars,” the half-elf managed a revolted whisper after a moment, “What in all the Hells of all the religions has happened here?”

As repulsed as he was by what he saw and smelled, though, he couldn’t help but move forward towards the heap of bodies for a closer look … The bow in his hand was put away and replaced by the scimitar as Flynn moved cautiously towards the savaged remains and, in his mind’s ear, a plethora of dirges and laments suggested themselves… A tear of sorrow welled in Flynn’s eye as he drew closer and he mourned for the loss of these priests lives as much as he mourned for what it might mean to the people of Hevlorn with the clerics and their healing skills so violently taken from them. The sadness grew when, as the bard got close enough to inspect the carnage, he personally recognized more than one of the men…

“Oh no,” he sighed, shaking his head slowly as he sunk to a crouch near one such severed head…

((OOC: Do the bodies look as if they’ve been hacked up by weapons or is it more of a “they were torn limb from limb” thing?))

…Prepared to comment on what he could determine by this closer inspection of the corpses, the bard rose from that crouch much quicker than he had planned when the disembodied laughter of what sounded like a little girl echoed through the chamber and he whirled about scimitar at the ready as he tried to determine, where exactly the sound had come from.

((OOC2: Anyway to make that determination or does the laughter seem to be coming from this very room?))

...I remember being a freshman... vaguely... from a distance.

Definitely a stressful time in the life of a youngster... *nods*

Y'know what's good for stress, though?

Pot pies! Chicken, especially... and fudge covered oreos... and Thundercats! *nods*

I developed a problem with those, though... so I had to switch to coffee... and now you get posts like this!

In all seriousness, though, ladies; it might seem like your freshman year is gonna be a big ordeal and lots of stress but, I promise, once you get to be as old and grizzled as me and Ody and the rest of us geezers around here, you'll look back and go; "Wow! That really wasn't too bad!"

Until then, though, you've always got us wacky Innmates hereabouts to support ya. Just holler and we'll come runnin'!

Eol's feet hit the floorboards on the Inn's main hall accompanied by the squuuueeeeeeeeeeeking of the rubber duckies he'd duct taped to the bottoms of his boots the night before..."Tah-dah!!!" The elf grinned, throwing his arms in the air and shooting sparkly confetti from his sleeves.

Topic: Our favorite custom races!
Subject: Hmmm...

I suppose one of the favorite "custom races" I've ever come up with would have been the Bhandaf... they sort of developed from a combination of a mutant mountain lion that I came up with for a Gamma World game, a dose of fantasy from taking that character out of the Gamma World setting and playing him in a "freeform" setting for a time, and, finally, a years long world building exercise in which I kind of fleshed out an entire planet, history, organizations, etc based on ideas that had grown out of the whole shebang...

In essence, the Bhandaf are cat-folk who "mutated/evolved" out of the "big cats" left on a post-apocalyptic Earth... I'll have to see if I can't find all of that stuff...

Trivial Edit: Just realized that this is my 3000th post! Yay us!!!

More for Dash to think about on his stroll back to the boat, I reckon.

Nope... I hadn't perceived that Wolf had drawn his weapons, just that he'd "freed them up," as you said... As twitchy as Sam is, he'd have noticed, I'm sure... and as obviously anxious as the Sheriff is to fill someone's butt full of lead, I figured Sam'd probably have mentioned it to Wolf a la "button down (as in the safety straps) and saddle up."

Ku?

Afterthought... Now that I think of it, I hope Sam don't get himself shot for what he said as itchy as our beloved lawman is... *crosses fingers*

Newhouse, Beylix, Outside Jailhouse, 12:30 am, Day Three

“I called out that I was the law – he didn’t stop. Seemed clear to me. Innocent people stop when the law tells them to, only criminals run...”

Sam’s mouth was drier than the deserts on Beaumonde and his jaw was clenched tight with anger as he tried to swallow what had just happened without succumbing to the urge to shoot Pearson in the back of his gorram overzealous head. That tension in his jaw worked down his neck, into his shoulders, and along his spine. His head swam and his stomach turned a bit as he clenched his fists tight enough to whiten his knuckles. “Seems clear ta me, humpface,” the pilot growled through clenched teeth once he got his jaw to move, “that you ain’t the ruttin’ law, here, no more what with ya havin’ signed on wit’ Frisco an’ given yer gorram badge ta Ken an’ all… Figger that make ya as much law on Beylix as makes me a registered companion…”

“…But don’t worry gentlemen,” Pearson said at the Frisco group, “That one was on the house. As to trials, well, I guess I saved the people a peck of taxes.”

On the house?!?! Saved taxes?!?! Dash shook almost visibly and, had his fist been unclenched when it bumped against the butt of his pistol, he was sure Pearson’d be plum full of lead, now…

“This ain’t right Sam,” he heard Wolf mutter as the big mechanic drew up beside him, “I don’t like it one bit. We need to disarm Pearson and find out wtf is going on before we let him step foot on the ship.”

“Tze sah ju yi (suicidal idea), puhn yoh,” the pilot answered after forcing his glaring eyes to turn Pearson loose, “No matter how much I might be inclined ta agree… even if we did manage ta not get shot down, there’s too many innocent folk around… can’t have none o’ them gettin’ tangled up in our mi tian gohn, get me?”

He turned, then, and his eyes skimmed over Wolf but didn’t really see the big man too awful much… There was the vague recollection that Wolf’s SMGs were unsnapped and at the ready and that that fact had prompted Sam to mutter something along the lines of ‘button down an’ saddle up, puhn yoh, we’re outta here’… The men from the Mining Guild were talking, too, but Sam didn’t hear much more than static and chatter… And Sam was already three steps past Wolf when he flicked a glance at Wyatt and said; “Cap… I can’t… stay here… I… I gotta go…”

Dash stopped dead in his tracks, though, when the out-of-breath sheriff rounded the mule with guns drawn and trained…

“Well what do we have here?” The balding man sneered, leveling his weapons at Wolf and prompting Dash’s eyes to follow, “Captain, your man here has machine pistols ready in a park where there are woman and children. Please make him rack and pin them or I will drop him where he stands. We have differences but I believe you would prefer to be civilized.”

“You wouldn’t know civilized from yer pi guh, mister,” Sam grumbled from behind teeth clenched so tight that his jaw hurt. He was pretty sure, too, that he could feel his fingernails digging into his palms even through the leather of his gloves… whiskey-hued eyes flicked from the sheriff to Wolf, from Wolf to Wyatt, and from Wyatt to Pearson before panning across the crowd of townsfolk and them on the mule.

((Going on the assumption that Wolf complies with the Sheriff and things go as Alacrity posted))

“Right! Luke. What happened? The sheriff asked with guns still out and ready.

“Man ran out of mining Guild office. One of these gentlemen called stop thief. I identified myself, told him to stop, he didn’t, I did.”

The Sheriff nodded rapidly, “Fine. Clear cut case to me.”

“Fine?!” Blake cried out, “Chad was one of us! From Frisco.”

“Really?!” Sheriff answered, “Good then, you can take the body home and I don’t worry about getting Morty to do it.”

“I think we have re-thought our decision with Mr. Pearson.” John called back angrily.

“Re-think all you want, you have a binding legal contract that I witnessed for you. Now load up your friend, take Luke to your ship and get the hell out of my town now!”

Dash would’ve spit on the ground at the Sheriff’s feet, just then, if he could’ve worked his jaw loose and mustered the saliva from his seemingly parched mouth. Instead, he looked the man up and down in a cold, appraising manner, shook his head in disgust and, without looking in the Captain’s direction, called out; “If we’s bein’ forced ta ferry this Pearson piece o’ sh** back ta the boat, Cap, I reckon I’ll walk my own self if that’s ku by you. If I don’t, I’m like ta bao xin jiu huo (choose the wrong method to handle a situation/ “lit. “bring wood to put out a fire”), get me?”

The glowering pilot didn’t hear Wyatt’s reply (if the man even made one other than an understanding nod), he just glared at the Sheriff a moment longer and, before finally stomping off on an angrily frustrated path back toward Rocinante, leaned in another inch or so towards the lawman as if he were going to say something other than the ‘chui ni duh’ that hissed over his lips after a moment’s hesitation.

((OOC: There goes Sam… as much as he’d love to just blow big smoking holes in Pearson, the Sheriff, and whoever else might be fong luh enough to back those two crooked pukes, he can’t let himself do much more than what he’s doing now… walking away before he acts on his true feelings and gets innocents killed in the process…))
