Subject: Undecided, really...

Given my affinity for elves, I'd say that's most likely going to be the choice I make but, really, I hadn't quite decided one way or another. I'd considered human and half-elf, as well. If I'm trying to keep as close to The Dragons of Sailiel write-up, though, High Elf would be the ticket, I think. That said, though, the Dragons were created for Audalis and I'm not entirely sure that Eilyrith would have an organization similar... *shrugs*

I like the idea of the Thrusting Spear, too... but then you said scimitar and I went "OOOOOOOOOooooooo! A scimitar!!! What spear?"

Subject: The idea...

...was kind of born from an earlier idea I had for "expanding" the Inn's Audalis campaign setting, actually. A few years ago, I made an attempt at working up a battle mage class/group that I was going to call The Dragons of Saieliel.  The initial write up I did for it can be found here.

Anyhoo, my idea was to create something similiar, at least as far as the character goes (maybe not the group as whole)... I'll wait on more world info and such before I dive too deep into how this character will work, but that's where I snatched the idea from, anyway.

Sounds more the way I'm thinking of going... more focus on martial prowess with magic to supplement as opposed to the other way around. Am also considering getting a little different with gear than I'm used to... Perhaps a spear and shield as weapons, light armor (studded leather at most... maybe chain but leaning toward leather...

Aaaaand I'm thinking out loud in posts, again.

Topic: Bring Me That Horizon
Subject: Wrapping it up with Oken?

Tuesday, June 3rd, 1670 a.d., Tortuga Bay Settlement (Ile de la Tortue), roughly 12:20 P.M.; The Rub of Del Monte

Dabbing at his temple again, Elias Oken continues, “Once you retrieve the thief, you will return to this port and send word through one of the serving girls at this tavern. You’ll receive further instructions at that point. Any questions, Mr. Crowe?”

“One er two,” the swarthy pirate answers, reclining slightly in his seat, again, and enjoying a swallow of the rum before proceeding. “First, c’n ye gimme a bit more of a description aside from a no’ so big Brazilian? True enough, Brazilians tend ta have a certain look about ‘em, an’ I c’n discern Portuguese from Spanish, but a wee bit more o’ precisely wha’ th’ lad looks like’d be helpful.

“Second,” he barrels on without waiting for an immediate response from Oken, “‘ow many others’ve ye got lookin’ ta fulfil this contract o’ yers?” One dark brow spikes slightly as Fin, in all seriousness, eyes the man across the table; “It’d be good ta know if I’ve go’ competition ta keep an eye on, saavy? An’ if there’ll be need ta kill any of ‘em ta keep th’ payment fer m’self.”

“Astute as well,” Elias muses, evoking little more than a shrug and a smirk from Fin, “You’ll know Rufino Abreu by the tattoo of a mermaid on his left forearm, and I’ve stack the deck in my favor. There are other crews searching for Rufino Abreu and they have at least a day on you. Two crews, possibly more.”

Possibly more, is it, Crowe thinks, his smirk evolving into a grin as ambiguous as Oken’s answer, So ye don’ know ‘ow many men ye’ve sent er I’m s’posed ta suss it out ‘long th’ way… Fair enough.

He washes the grin away with another tip of mug to lips and, wiping his mouth on his sleeve before setting the cup back down on the table, he offers the dandy a curt nod. “Well then,” he rasps, rising from his seat now, “bein’ as tha’s th’ case, I reckon I’d best set ta work, aye?

Ye’ll be hearin’ from me soon enough, Mester Oken,” the Sun Dog’s quartermaster promises, “an’ I’ll have yer thief in tow…”  As Fin hadn’t seen Oken so much as smell the first mug of rum he’d poured, the pirate casually lifts the bottle of rum from the table and takes a quick pull directly from the thing’s neck… “Apologies in advance if’n I should have ta kill any o’ yer other crews,” he chuffs, turning for the door now, bottle still in hand, “Tha’s th’ price o’ business like this, saavy?”

((OOC: Okay, unless Oken has anything else to add, Fin is finished with this conversation. If the dandy protests too much about Fin absconding with the bottle, he’ll deposit the thing on a table without so much as a word. Otherwise, out into the streets he’ll go, with the intent of meandering back to the Sun Dog and filling Anna in on the “work” he’s found... Time is approx 12:23 p.m. ))

Always a good place to start when learning a new/updated system, I think!

That said (and after doing a tiny bit of reading on 5e) does anyone have any suggestions on how I might start if, at some point, I'd like to see my character become a battle mage of sorts? More of a fighter type but, for whatever reason, discovers a knack for magic that he'll eventually work into his fighting style? Even more importantly, Lady D, would such a character even fit into this world of yours?

Subject: Busted!

From his place in the shadows, Haze listened (and watched when it couldn’t be avoided) as the conversation between red-eyed Mr Creepy and McGinty-dude continued. The whole thing made him more than a little uncomfortable and, at more than one point in that eavesdropped discussion, Haze had the urge to bail; consequences be damned… At the same time, though, he knew that doing so would almost certainly draw Creepy’s attention and, to Haze’s way of thinking, eyes like that weren’t the kind you wanted peeping you, at all, if it could be avoided. So, crouched rather uncomfortably amidst the trash in the dark of the alleyway, the kid waited the conversation out and, when Mr Creepy finally slinked off into the night and McGinty-dude… Castlebrand¸ Haze corrected himself, Dude said his name’s Castlebrand… turned to head back into The Owl, Haze gathered his stuff and, finally, extracted himself from his hiding spot.

He had hoped to skate off unnoticed, of course… get himself as far from Markham, its talk of this Dude in White, and the red-eyed Damien, as he possibly could. As luck would have it, though, a strap on his pack snagged a trash bin and produced just enough of a clatter to draw Castlebrand’s attention…

((OOC: Presuming a bit of this initial conversation based on Nomad’s prior posts… If it doesn’t read right to you, Nomad, just let me know and I’ll edit accordingly.))

S#!t, Haze cringed, feeling the old-dude’s gaze swing his way.

“Hey,” Castlebrand called, his progress back inside the pub halted at the sight of the kid, “What are you doing here?”

A little disappointed that he’d been spotted, Haze heaved a sigh and pushed an errant lock of hair out of his eyes as he turned and regarded the man. “Dude,” he said with a shrug, “I was just hoping to nosh on some gratis grub, right? But then that got all twisty-turny-sideways when you people turned a bountiful buffet into a full-on-freak-fest.” The kid’s weight shifted nervously from one foot to the other and, for a split second, his eyes scoured the darkness into which Mr Creepy, Damien, had recently disappeared before ticking back to Castlebrand.

“How much of that did you hear,” the older man asked, realizing that this disheveled kid had probably been lurking for a good while.

“More than I wanted to, bro,” Haze grimaced. He considered letting that be the sum total of his conversation with this old dude but, for whatever reason, instead of letting it lay and skating off, he fixed the man with an almost admonishing expression and added; “Y’know… ya really shouldn’t talk to…” he waved a hand in the direction the Damien thing went, “…to things like that. Good way to end up dead or somethin’…”

((OOC: And I’ll end it there, for now… Don’t want to assume too much about where the conversation goes next.))

Subject: Cleaning up posts

Hello there, Innmates! Uncle Run-With-Scissors, here, wishing you a happy go-lucky, facelickity day!

Now that we have the pleasantries out of the way, let's get down to business, shall we?

As you may have noticed, recently, our webmaster and his support staff have been working to update, upgrade, and otherwise up-stuff our beloved Inn. We've got a new post editor, notification issues have been fixed, and several other goodies are in the works to be implemented in the near future. As part of this beautification effort, I'd like to start cleaning up posts that may have been effected by a "post-crash" formatting bug in which several characters (mostly "smart quotes,"  elipses, and the like that copy and pasted from Word or other editors) have been replaced by those annoying little question mark diamonds, thereby making said posts nearly unreadable without bugging out your brain! So, dear Innmates, if you see or know of any posts or threads that are infested with stuff like this...

Dont he owe you money? Could be a good turn for us ifn hed be so kind as to pay up, Sam thought rubbing a hand across his stubbled cheek, but, if Grifs as haggard as is ship, I dont reckon thatll pan out none. Dont reckon itll count a tally aginst Wyatts three, neither, gorram it!
Yup. He does at that.

...Post here or shoot me a PM and I'll get to work on cleaning those things up for you! If it gets to be toooooo much, I may even enlist some help from the community, so, if anyone has the time or inclination to assist in this effort, post that interest here, as well.

Thanks,

The Clean Up Crew

Topic: RDINN Feature Updates/ Suggestions/ Bugs
Subject: Image posting

Posting images works pretty much the same as it always has only it's been "simplified" a bit. Here's how it works:

  • Just as in the past, you'll need to upload/save your images on your own hosting site (i.e. Photobucket, Freewebs, whatever).

  • Once your image is uploaded and you're ready to post it here, you simply start your post and, when you get to the point where you want your picture placed, you click on the "Insert/Edit image" button in the menu bar.

  • The url for your image's location goes in the "Source" field (instead of using the html tag [img src="http:blahblahblah"] tag as you did in the past... the code behind the "Source" field adds this tag for you so all you need is the url).

  • In the "Image Description" field, you enter a brief description of the image (i.e. Tann's Picture). This is purely optional, of course.

  • If you'd like to specify the dimensions of the image, you do so in the "Dimensions" field(s). This is also optional. Leaving this section blank will display your image at it's default size.

  • Once you're done, you click "OK" and, BOOM, your pic is magically in your post!!!

  • Super-facelickity-groovalicious, right?

Aaaaaaaand that's all there is to it, Innmates! No muss, no fuss!

Now, if none of the above made sense to you, feel free to say so and I'll see what I can do about making the instructions simpler... and then make fun of you!

Tann - if what you're using is anything like Word, you're going to want to look at your Paragraph Layout settings (could possibly be in Page Layout, as well). Look for the item labeled line spacing and it should show you a value to which it's currently set. If it's anything greater than 1 and you want to keep the spacing "tight" set it back to 1. It may ask you if you want to apply it to the selected section or the entire document... I'm guessing you'll want to select entire document.

...it might have something to do with the way your source document is formatted (as far as the copy/paste goes). If your editor is set up to use a 1.5 or 2 line return (spacing), the editor, here, will translate it as such and cause the spacing you see on Valene's sheet as opposed to the rest.

Not sure what to tell you in regards to the "run-on," though.
