Topic: Capasha - Audalis Campaign Setting
Subject: Capasha - Basic Info

  • Location: Capasha is located some 850 miles southeast of Coria’s southern coast, across Iirlastor Bay, and beyond the Titan’s Walk Reefs.

  • Size: Compared to Antaron, Capasha is a small island continent with the entirety of its landmass covering only 4.4 million km2 (1.7 million sq mi) as compared to Antaron’s 44,579,000 km2 (17,212,000 sq mi)

  • Ecology:

    • Trees: Capasha is heavily forested. A good portion of the continent is given over to various types of forest biomes such as tropical rainforests, moist and dry deciduous forests, and coniferous forests in the few mountainous areas. Common trees in the various ranges include sal, teak, pine, fir, spruce, cedar, larch and cypress. Also, babul or thorny acacia trees are not uncommon in certain regions.

    • Other flora: Aside from trees, a wide variety of flora, including bamboos, hibiscus, lotus, various swamp/marsh grasses, and the like can be found on Capasha.

    • Wildlife/Fauna: Various species of deer and buffalo, rhinocerous, and elephants, are common across Capasha. A number of other mammals, too, are easily found in various regions; these include several types of primate (monkeys, langurs, macaques). Wolves, jackals, and other wild canines are not uncommon. Reptilian and amphibian life also has a good representation amongst the varying species of snakes, salamanders, toads, and lizards to be found on the continent.

  • Sentient Species: The Kazari, of course, are the dominant force on Capasha, they are not the only sentient species to inhabit the continent.

    • Slaa'kar: There are numerous tribes of these lizard-folk on Capasha. They typically tend to populate areas of the continent where swamps and marshes are prevalent but can also be found inhabiting some of Capasha's outlying islands (not yet pictured on the maps) and, on occassion, may try to expand their territories into Kazari controlled jungles and forests. In terms of population, Capashan Slaa'kar (or Sleeth) outnumber the Kazari but those numbers have yet to have any bearing on their being the dominant force.

    • Humans: There are humans on Capasha but, as compared to those on Antaron, they aren't nearly as advanced (technologically, magically, or otherwise) as their Antronian counterparts. In fact, Capashan humans (typically referred to as monkeys by both the Kazari and Slaa'kar) are possibly best described as "cavemen." In order to avoid the Kazari and Slaa'kar, they tend to keep to the higher reaches of Capasha's mountains where they live in small clusters, either in caves or small, sheltered "villages" of makeshift tents and huts.

    • Other: There are no other races of sentients indigenous to Capasha. Aside from the more feral humans mentioned above, there is no representation of other humanoid species common to places like Antaron (i.e. Sylvari, Cidals, Khordaldrum, etc). That said, there have been rumors (or myths, if you prefer) that Capasha has been visited (voluntarily or otherwise) by intelligent beings from other lands.

((More to come))

Subject: Capasha - Audalis Campaign Setting

EDIT: All of the information found in the psots below can be found in a single document entitled "Of Capasha and the Kazari" found here.

So, for those of you who don't know, I've been playing a Kazari in Olan's Hidden Corruption game for a while, now, and, while the straight up fighter type has never been my go-to character type, I've been enjoying the ever-loving heck out of the character. As I'm wont to do when I find myself enjoying a character this much, I've dug into his homeland, his people, and all things Kazari related in the process. As a whole, RDI's Audalis campaign setting is pretty rich and robust; however, there really wasn't much info on the Kazari homeland aside from a description of the Kazari themselves and a blurb or two about Capasha scattered about in the resources. To that end (and with Olan's blessing) I took it upon myself to flesh out Capasha and the Kazari almost since the moment I jumped into Ch'dau's fuzzy hide.

I've got quite a bit scrawled out but I don't think I'm anywhere NEAR finished. I do have enough, though, that I think I'm ready to start sharing with the Innmate population at large. So, to start, let me kick out a couple of maps I've been tinkering with:

Capasha_Rough

Above is my first, rough attempt at a map of "Capasha Proper"... Not entirely thrilled with this one as it stands but it provided me with a start, anyway. Below is something of a rework/refined image that I started just a day or two ago. I'm liking this version a bit better than the one above but there's still a long way to go.

Sooooo... that's it for the time being, Innmates. I've got plenty more ideas and information to share, though, so, if you're interested, stay tuned to this thread as I plan to update fairly regularly as I get my notes sorted and cleaned up. Questions, comments, and input are always welcome, of course.

Enjoy!

That's one of the things I don't miss about military life, to be honest. You're either working yourself to death or you're bored to it... never seems to be much of an inbetween in the life of an enlisted.

I went ahead and posted a tiny little something for Thren as I did happen to have one of those "in between" moments, available.

Subject:

“I did it…”

At the first words of Millae’s ‘confession,’ Thren’s eyes, at first, went wide, then, narrowed as he cast a somewhat uneasy glance toward the staircase… Had the guardsman heard? Or the scribe?... Even as the girl continued her weeping admission, including her assertions that it had been an accident, the Ebou Dari’s honeyed eyes flicked back to frame her and he raised his hands in a gesture of caution. “Shh, shh, shh,” he admonished in a hiss, “a girl should not say such things. Especially not in so loud a voice…”

“Calm down,” Dane said, passing his wineskin through the bars, again, “Things look bleak, but try to get a hold of yourself.  Take a drink.”

In response to the bowman’s glance, then, Thren’s signal of forestallment turned to one of beckoning, as if his gesture might actually pull the girl away from the wall and back to the bars. “Come, sweet,” he purred, an affable and sympathetic smile playing on his lips, “come closer. Allow a man to wipe away your tears and calm your heart, yes? Then, mayhap, a girl can speak to us in a tone more appropriate to her surroundings…”

((OOC: Just presuming, here, that Thren might be smooth enough to coax Millae closer. If not, let me know, and I’ll gladly edit to reflect otherwise.))

The smuggler offered a slow nod of encouragement as Millae peeled herself away from the wall against which she’d been huddled and another as, somewhat sheepishly, she made her way back toward the bars that separated them. “There’s a brave young lady,” Thren smiled easily, reaching a hand through the bars to dab the tears from her cheeks, his voice dropping to almost a murmur as he continued, “Still your heart and your head, sweet, and keep your voice low, hm? A man can easily attest to the wisdom of such things in places the likes of this.” He chuckled softly, then, and drew his hands back lest the girl become too uncomfortable with his attentions. “A man has come to learn that the coin of guilt isn’t minted from the ore of misfortune, you see? Just so, offering that coin along with that ore, will likely find a girl being asked more questions than she might be prepared to answer…” Another warm smile, along with a somehow playful wink, played on Thren’s features as he settled back and tilted his head encouragingly towards Dane’s proffered wine skin; “…and, where the authorities are concerned, sweet, it is best that some questions go unasked, yes?”

((OOC2: I’ll cut it off, there, for the time being. Just felt the need to post something, you know? I figure Dane’s line of questioning follows this little bit, of course, and, for the duration of that, Thren will simply watch and listen, hoping to pick up any clues or bits of “useful information” from the girl’s answers and/or body language.))

Half way through the day and almost half way through catching up with two weeks worth of work. Post potential is looking promising for tomorrow or, maaaaaybe, even later tonight (depending on how fried my eyeballs get from staring at these databases).

And, of course, my back up didn't bother to back me up while I was gone. Two weeks worth of enhancement requests and defect submissions to filter through, today. Most likely won't get around to posting today but I do have an idea or three stuck in my head that will allow for a decent post once I get the time to write one up.

Been a busy two weeks for me, as well. Between vacation time in NY and a rather impromptu "rescue mission" to LA, I've seen more road time than free time lately. I'm sure I'll have some catch up to play with work tomorrow but am also hoping to get some creative juices flowing again.

Topic: The Corruption Hidden Beneath the Surface...
Subject:

The enemy’s numbers seemed endless; a perpetual wave of snarling, groaning undead that crashed upon the crumbling shore formed by Ch’dau and his companions much like the breakers between the Titan’s Walk collided, unrelenting, with Capasha’s northern coast. It was a glorious battle even if it did appear to be a losing one and, surely, if the ancestors were watching, the Silver Cat of Coria and his friends were assured their places in the Eternal Hunt…

It won’t be long, now, the thought passed fleetingly as a blow from one of the rotters cracked his ribs and dislodged the dagger from his hand. Staggered, he grunted, extended the claws of his now empty paw, and roared, refusing to submit to defeat even as it drew nearer with every pained breath.

…All around him, the shouts and cries of his compatriots had begun to swell to a level that drowned out the chorus of rasping moans issuing from the undead throng. Though the sounds of his dying friends pained him, Ch’dau couldn’t help but smile that savage smile of his knowing that, soon enough, they would reunite under the shelter of Rrowl’s ramada where they would hunt and feast together until the end of time.

Beyond the din of combat, the cries of his companions, and the chittering of the dead, though, the Kazari warrior became vaguely aware of an odd chanting… The sound of the Ancestors welcoming them to the Hunt, perhaps?... No… It was not the voice of any cat-folk he recognized… But, with death drawing near, Ch’dau could not focus on the sound or even the fact that his blood and gore spattered fur had begun to stand on end; not while there were still more enemies for him to take with him to…

ShhhhKKKKaa-BOOOOOOOM!!!

Accompanying the sound, there was a blinding flash, the sharp smell of ozone, and an incredible wave of pressure as if the very ground upon which he stood had exploded beneath him. There was a ringing in his ears and ethereal green spots swimming in his vision but, while he couldn’t fathom exactly what had just happened, the great cat realized that he had been thrown to the ground and that the battle was not yet finished... I’ll not die on my back like some mewling cub, he snarled inwardly as he scrambled to his feet… He shook his shaggy head, trying to dismiss the humming in his ears, and blinked in an attempt to clear the spots dancing before his eyes; it was then, as he sought out the next enemy, that Ch’dau discovered the zombies numbers had been greatly diminished. He chuffed in confusion at this but, still, found a target and, as he started set upon it, heard a woman shout indistinctly. Suddenly, his chosen opponent and several more of the rotters flanking simply evaporated into ash…

What in the name of all Kalani’s Clan??? Another shake of his head dissipated the impediments to his senses but did little to alleviate his bewilderment.

…Another shout, then, this time from a male voice, and a large form crashed through the rear of the drastically reduced undead.

Another blink and Ch’dau registered that shape as familiar; Garn! From the Inn!

Even as that recognition dawned curiously on him a silvered voice, also not completely unfamiliar, rang out; “Destroy them all!”

The woman… Davena!

Despite his bewilderment at the pair’s sudden appearance and the fact that she was not his khatun, Ch’dau didn’t hesitate to follow the woman’s command; the Kazari, along side these two humans he had met only briefly days ago, dispatched the remaining shamblers with ease. Only when that work was done did the Silver Cat allow himself to succumb to his wounds and weariness. Breathing heavily and clutching at his ribs, the Capashan cat-man sank to the ground, a low purr of satisfaction reverberating in his chest as his heavy lidded gaze sought out his companions, first, then turned to regard the blonde woman and her swarthy sidekick. “You have kept me from the Hunt,” he rumbled, slowly blinking up at Davena, “but I thank you for your aid…and for the lives of my friends.”

((OOC: Anything and/or nothing from either Davena or Garn, here.))

Surveying the carnage surrounding him and wincing as he sucked in a few more rasping breaths, Ch’dau languished on his haunches for a moment longer and, then, painfully aware of his own weight, hauled himself back to his feet. “Where have you come from, rrow’ka’a,” he wearily asked of the two even as he trudged toward where his own companions were gathered, “and how did you find us?”

((OOC: Again, anything from either of them, here&hellip)

He nodded vaguely in response to the given reply but said nothing in return, just yet, as he had reached his friends and was, proudly and woefully, all at once, assessing their conditions. He pulled Kithran to him in an awkward, one-armed embrace and nuzzled her face. “You were supposed to run, my brave Little Kitten,” he murmured softly before releasing her and sitting at her side. Heaving a weary sigh, Ch’dau eyed the brutalized forms of Gib and Aranwen for a moment, then, his ears flicking in the Kazari approximation of a human smile, turned his appreciative gaze to Cedric and offered a nod of thanks. He reached out a heavy arm, then, rested a paw on Midge’s head and, purring weakly, tousled the little mage’s hair. A finer group of warriors I could never find, he thought, before turning his attentions back to their rescuers, not even on Capasha. K’hra and Keziri bless them all…

((OOC: Aaaaand I’ll stop there. I’m sure Ch’dau is exhausted and in pain from the fight but he’s still curious/suspicious – even if he is grateful – at the timely intervention of Davena and Garn, so, injuries and weariness aside, he’s very interested in what they might have to say.))

Topic: Hidden Corruption Q&A
Subject: Okay...

...now that I'm back behind the keyboard and somewhat recuperated from vacation and the 12 hour drive home, let me just say  "Friggin' WOW!" That was an epic outcome to a battle I was all but sure we were destined to lose! Bra-friggin-VO!!! (Not sure what the sound of one Kazari clapping might be but go ahead and insert said sound here!) Hooray for Davena and Garn coming to our rescue (suspicious as that may be).

A few things, here, before I get into considering a post:

  1. I'm guessing we're all in pretty rough shape, at the moment, yes? Doubtful that, even between Cedric and Moreno, that there was enough healing magic to go around to get us back into top form, right? Who's capable of standing and who will take forever to recoup (as of the end of that post, anyway), I guess is the question. (I ask because it appears, in post, that Ch'dau is the only one of us truly left "on his/her feet," atm).

  2. What are the chances of Ch'dau getting his blades back? If nothing else, he'd surely be upset if he couldn't find the dagger (it was a gift from Kith, after all)... though, I'm sure he'd miss the additional falcatta, as well, but there's more "sentimental value" where the dagger is concerned.

  3. (Not that I'm truly expecting an answer outside of IC but...) Where in the HELL did Davena and Garn come from? Have they been stalking us since Crandel or did we just happen to catch up with them (given that they disappeared after the bow-chicka-wow-wow with our glorious Khan Aranwen)?

  4. What in blazes must our surroundings look like, now, given that Miss Crystal Voice and Mr Dark and Grumpy laid the mystical shaka-boom on our oppressors?

  5. Is my fur singed?

  6. Does this dak'tar make my butt look big?

  7. Who put the bomp in the bomp-sha-bomp-sha-bomp?

  8. Who put the ram in the ram-a-lam-a-ding-dong?

  9. Are we there yet?

Awww hell! I'll just get a post working and see if I can't get at least some of these answers in game!

Grrrrrreatttt post, boss!

Yeah, Ch'dau's doubling down on making zombie hummus, I suppose. He'll do his best to defend any failing or falling comrades if need be, of course, but, I kind of imagine getting beat on by the undead is just fueling his rage. So, blood for Rrowl it is.
