Topic: AMC's The Walking Dead Subject: w00t!!!
AMC orders up 13 episodes for season 2!!!
That's the good news...
... the possible bad news? Producer Frank Darabont fires the entire writing staff and is looking at possibly using freelancers... ... Not a super horrible proposition, I suppose, considering that Darabont wrote the first two episodes, and did re-writes on the other 4 but... damn... the WHOLE staff?
The really bad news? Season 2 won't start until around next Halloween?!?!? W...T...F?!?!?!?

Topic: AMC's The Walking Dead Subject: But the problem...
...with the samples, Pit, is that the ones that Mr CDC obliterated is that apparently, they weren't gathered from Walkers... Remember him saying that all the newer samples were useless because they came from "necrotic dead flesh"? Kind of leads me to believe that the samples he was testing/experimenting with didn't come from a zombie at all but, rather, from some pre-zombification subject. (All kinds of implications in that one little statement, I suppose, but I kind of translated as "samples from the dead" aren't going to suffice and/or weren't the sort of samples he was working on in his little "Oh, crap!" scene...)

Topic: AMC's The Walking Dead Subject: Turn time...
From what I recall reading in the trades (and I think it may have been alluded to in the series once or twice, as well), Kirkman has this idea that the time it takes to turn in an individual thing. Some folks have turned in a matter of hours while others literally took days to completely "geek-out".
Jim and Amy are perfect example in this episode, actually... both were bitten within minutes of each other, right? Amy got major-munched as she came out of the RV, Jim got a little "what's this guy taste like" bite during the melee. However, Amy took just a few, sad hours to "come back from death" whereas Jim was still un-zombiefied (but obviously closing in fast) near the end of the episode. Not sure exactly what the variables might be in determining the speed at which one person might turn as compared to another (Does it happen faster when you've been bitten to death as opposed to just getting a little nibble? Perhaps, if you live through the initial bite, the immune system has something to do with slowing the progress... thus, if the initial bite(s) kill you and, thereby, stops your immune system from functioning, maybe it's easier for the virus (or whatever) to take hold? *shrugs*)

151? Eeeeep! That's not rum, it's paint thinner.
The Captain, now, there's another story... Mmmmmm... Gods Bless Henry Morgan, aye? One of my favorite pirates and, until recently, my all-time favorite rum... Discovered The Kraken Black, Spiced Rum recently, though, and I've gotta say it's reeeeeaaaaalllly good. Set sail with the Captain on a Kraken hunt, perhaps?
Also, @ the Scooby reference and +1 for 1000 posts, Big Red.

Well, you remember what happened in the trades when Amy got bitten and such, right? And how quickly Andrea "did what needed to be done"?
It was a pretty hardcore thing for her to do in the comics, for sure, and, all things considered, she did it pretty quickly on the printed page... Not so on screen... she reflected... and waited... and did what she needed to do...
...and it was Amy's birthday!!!

Topic: AMC's The Walking Dead Subject: Very cool imagery, indeed...
...one of the best panels in the graphic novels, IMO, and they captured it so well in the series, too...
As for some of my non-spoiler thoughts on this week's episode:
- As heartbreaking as the Andrea/Amy thing was in the trades, it's soooo much more beyond that in this episode... Thought I might actually cry.
- Wow, Carol! Let it out sister!
- Shane, you douchenozzle!!!
- Poor, poor, uber-crazy Jim.
- Daryl's hilarious!!!
- CDC?!?! Wildfire? What? I must not have read that one... Ooooh... is this a little insight into what started this whole mess? Hmmmmm...
Can't wait for next week!!! I gotta know what happens!

Topic: Voyages of the Rocinante - Firefly RPG QnA Subject: Understood...
...and, as I said, I'm not at all opposed to the possibility. Heck, the little write up you gave us made it sound like just the kind of place that Sam might feel at least a little at ease (as much as he can ever feel at ease, anyway) on a stop over... It's not like it's an Alliance Cruiser or the skyplex that Phoenix operates from, right?
Also, since I missed replying the "how familiar is your character with Reavers" question: I'd say "not very" where Sam is concerned... rumors and legends for the most part... perhaps a "derelict ship" sighting here or there but nothing up close and personal or anything..

Topic: Voyages of the Rocinante - Firefly RPG QnA Subject: Hmmm...
...I dunno.
I never really pictured the Rocinante crew as having any sort of "home base" aside from Rocinante herself, to be honest... I mean, I'm sure that they all have their "ports in a storm" and whatnot (individually and collectively) but, from Sam's perspective, I never imagined anything like a home base kind of thing... I think that any place where Sam could "be expected" on a regular or semi-predictable basis would just make him waaaaaaay too twitchy to be comfortable with the thoughts of it.
Not that I'm opposed, at all... I just don't think that Sam would be inclined to "settle" on any one place to "hang his hat" so to speak... he's much more content being on the move and never staying too awful long anywhere there's more than Wyatt and the crew. Could provide some interesting twists and turns, though, I reckon.

Topic: AMC's The Walking Dead Subject: LOL
My "conspiracy theory" was really little more than me being facetious and over the top, really... I seriously doubt that Merle had anything at all to do with the zombie attack on the camp... more than likely those zombies simply wandered closer and closer to the camp with each passing day (possibly drawn in by the sounds and such made by the survivors, etc) and, by sheer coincidence, attacked while Rick and company had gone back to Atlanta. *shrugs*
As to the "gangsters" minding the Old People, it's really not too much of a stretch... "Gangs" are often created to give their members a "family" more than put together for some group need to be criminals, after all (the criminal behavior undertaken by gangs is often validated, at least from their perspective, by some sense of 'taking care of our own')... So, when the "authorities" (people who are paid to protect and serve or whatever) ignored their own duties in deference to "looking out for number 1" and flat-out abandoned the old folks, Guillermo and his crew moved in and took over where "the system" failed them yet again. Don't know if you missed it or not, but the little old lady who "interrupted the negotiations between Rick and Guillermo" was G's grandmother, hence his interest and dedication in taking care of a hospital full of old people.
Glenn was taken hostage as a bargaining chip to be used in G and the vatos "negotiations" for Rick's bag of guns and/or the return of their own captured "homey"...

Topic: AMC's The Walking Dead Subject: Yup...
...and that's about where my conspiracy theory train of thought runs off the tracks.
I mean, supposedly Merle took out those two "geeks" that Rick, Daryl, Glenn, and T-dawg found after he hacked his hand off... bad@$$ enough, right there... shows that Merle's definitely tough as nails and hardcore even losing blood and minus an entire hand... Is he bad enough, though, or smart enough for that matter, to have rustled a pack of zombies into a van, drive them out to the camp, and turn them loose on the others? Without getting munched himself? *shrugs*
Probably not the case at all, really, just one of those 'thoughts' I had as the episode unfolded/wrapped up... I like to instigate.

Topic: AMC's The Walking Dead Subject: Heh...
...The conspiracy theorist in me thinks that Merle, somehow, rounded up a bunch of zombies, loaded them into the van, drove them out to the camp and turned them loose.
Sure, there had been a flesh muncher or two near the camp before but that many? All of the sudden? C'mon... they couldn't have done anything to have drawn that horde in, could they have? Not without it having been seen by Rick and crew as they made their way back to Atlanta, right? And it's not like in the trades where the 'camp invasion' was precipitated by Rick and Shane teaching the rest of the survivors to shoot (cuz, hey... hasn't happened in the series and Rick doesn't even have the guns back to camp... *shrugs* )...
Makes one wonder....
And why no helicopter after Ep 2?
The plot thickens...
