Topic: Floyd Hobart #7 - Winter Is Coming Subject: Not necessarily...
...I had a character that died in Alacrity's Continuing Where We Last Left Off and, honestly, I enjoyed the heck outta that!
I mean, sure, the fact that the character died was kind of a bummer to a certain degree, but the death scene itself and the things that happened because Jal bit the dust were just phenomenal! To this day, I think, that has to be one of my all time favorites.
Does the fact that I enjoyed a character's death make me insane? Nah... I was insane well before that happened, after all.

Topic: Are you ready for 5e? Do you care? Subject: ^ This too^
Definitely valid points, there, gents... Probably the one thing that even gets my interest piqued in "expanded" or "updated" source materials for any game would be the possibility of taking "stock/base" character classes and tweaking them into something "more than" just your standard "fighter" or "rogue" or "wizard"...
In that same breath, though, I've got to wonder why it takes a 'reboot' of the rules or even the publishing of additional source material to make such things happen? Isn't that what "houserules" and having conversations with the DM/GM is all about? Couldn't you roll all the way back to Basic D&D and, with just a little time, imagination, and vision, be able to work out exactly the sort of character you want to play with what's already there?
...I guess what I'm getting at, here, is that these "fast and furious" updates/edition changes/whatever you want to call them do very little to make the system more comprehensive and/or the game(s) more playable... instead, they seem to say "Oh no, don't strain your imagination. We've already done that part for you and made so many overblown "prestige classes" that you don't have to do anything beyond track stats and skills in order to hit that next perk. Why bother figuring out creative uses for your character's existing skills/feats/attributes when we've pigeon-holed the heck out of everything for you ahead of time, right?"
Back to creativity and imagination, I say...
...but, that's just my opinion... I could be wrong.

Topic: Breaking the Fourth ~ A D&D Webcomic Subject: Yay for updayt!
This one brings to mind a question I've had since I was first ever introduced to the concept of "healing potions"... Is it really necessary to drink them? I mean, given the fact that they're "magical potions" of a sort, wouldn't they work (possibly even better) if the potion was poured directly onto the wound?
Just a thought... I think ol' dude in the strip probably doesn't care either way... he appears to be bleeding out pretty darn quick.
Another great strip, Celeste.

Yep... I imagine that's about exactly how a Game of Thrones RPG would go.
PC: "Okay, I'm dead... but you just wait until my bastard son comes of age, rallies my bannermen, and storms out of the North to lay destruction at your gates, Lannister!"
DM: "Twelve years later...."
Great strip as always!

Topic: Are you ready for 5e? Do you care? Subject: Nope...
...not interested.
Haven't bought any rulebooks for D&D, etc, since 2e, myself (although I have borrowed and whatnot)... And can't say that I've enjoyed anything about the 4e debacle of recent years...
I have purchased some RPG rules and source material outside the realm of D&D (i.e. Witchcraft, Serenity, Shadowrun) but, honestly, lost any interest in the D&D franchise (at least where spending wasting money on their "updated drivel" is concerned) before 3.0/3.5 hit the shelves.
Of course, I'm not so much about the rulesets and such, anyway... I'd rather just tell a tale or two and let it go at that.

...just waylaid, mate.
RL reared its ugly head on me, again, and shuffled some things off to the back burner for a bit and, when that happens, the Inn (or at least my posting capacity, here), unfortunately, tends to be one of the first things that gets itself shoved in that direction.
I've got the better part of a post in the works and am hoping that I'll manage to have it to you by tomorrow or thereabouts. *crosses fingers and tosses a dubloon in the harbor for luck*

Topic: Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Subject: Avoid giants? Yes...
...by all means avoid the giants whenever possible (especially at levels below 20 or so unless you just plan on the plink and run tactic... even then, be prepared for a long run and the possibility of running out of arrows before that dude is toast).
Bears, on the other hand... ummm... I didn't have problems with bears... they seem to die more quickly than wolves in most cases (perhaps because they're larger and thereby easier targets?)... so, I can't concur with the avoid bears statement. *winks*
Also, if you're going with a sneaky-type character, might I recommend visiting Riften at your earliest convenience and getting a foot in with the Thieves Guild? There are some very cool 'quests' involved, there, and you get some really spiffy armor out of the deal (assuming you live long enough to become a member )

Got this for Christmas and must say that it is completely fantastic! I haven't had this much fun playing a game on the PC since the days of Neverwinter Nights or, perhaps, MechWarrior 4 and I've barely gotten started.
Note: Jumping off of a watchtower in an attempt to land on a dragon in order to kill it is usually a bad idea.

Topic: Smuggler's Moon Q&A Subject: Aye, an' we've some sortin' an' stowin' tae be done...
.. tha's fer a certain, me hearties.
Now that Christmas is in my wake, I should be able to get this next bit of posting done and dig up the info I have on our ships doc... DB sent me some wonderful snippets on the Doc and his brother before he went all walkabout on us, it's just a matter of sifting through PMs and threads and such to find it. The bits I remember off the top of my head, though, are that the Doc's name is Marlow... He's a big, brown skinned fellow, built like a boxer (and, in fact, is quite the bare-knuckles brawler himself), and sporting a mop of dredlocks... for a big guy with hands that look more suited to caving in a face, Marlow's got one helluva healing touch in those hands. Very mellow, laid back sort, too... *nods*
His brother, whose name I can't recall right off, is a rather odd bloke (in both appearance and mannerism) who spends most of his time below decks and doesn't interact much with the rest of the crew... He's a bit creepifying, actually, and a got portion of the crew tries to steer clear of him but, since Jericho hasn't seen fit to toss him over the gunwales just yet, they don't really treat him too much different than any of the other hands, aboard. Probably some speculation that Jericho's come to some sort of agreement with Marlow regarding his brother's berth aboard the Moon...
...and, if I keep banging away at the Q&A, I'll never get this post done!
