...pretty sure that's implied. Not necessarily that TAC/Sec would have been on the bridge but that, at the very least, Ops would have passed the information down.

Subject: Okay...

...I've gotten past the point of guesses, really, as the show has gone in radically different directions than the comics where characters and their deaths are concerned. That said, I'm all but certain that one of the "fan-favorites" is gonna get an up-close-and-personal intro to Lucille and I've narrowed it down to just a few possibilities based on who Dwight and crew already have bagged at the end of last night's episode and who else is "outside the walls" and could easily join them.

1)Glenn - obvious choice given his comics outcome, plus, he's cheated death like NINE times, now. That cat's out of lives! On the other hand, I feel like they're going the "Glenn/Maggie/Sophia" route from the comics with Glenn/Maggie/Enid and there were some interesting little plot points from all of that. However, given what happened to Maggie last night coinciding with Glenn being bagged by the Saviours... it'd be a truly horrific and heartbreaking finale to see Glenn get it... Chances: 8/10

2)Sasha - Seriously doubtful. While definitely an interesting character, she's hardly what I'd call a fan favorite, and, as such, wouldn't have as much an impact if Negan were to end her run, here. Chances 1/10

3)Rosita - see Sasha. Although, if Rosita were to get the brainpan trauma ending, it might set up an interesting set of circumstances that would affect the Sasha/Abraham relationship soooo... Chances 3/10

4)Daryl - Arguably the #1 fan favorite and, therefore, biggest impact as far as a "gut wrenching season finale" would be concerned. Plus, he's put the "no mercy" on the Saviors pretty good and, as such, likely identified himself to Negan as one of the larger threats from the Alexandria folks... Then again #1 fan favorite, right? Do the producers risk a fan exodus if they brain Daryl? Chances 8/10

5)Carol - because, like Daryl, she's put the hurting on the Saviors pretty good, "Miss Gun Up Your Sleeve," and she made the mistake of leaving one alive who followed her... What a display that would make, right? Braining the crazy lady and giving her the escape she was looking for while simultaneously making the audience go "OMG! Not CAROL!!!" Chances 4/10

6)Morgan - see Sasha and Rosita. That aside, the little booger would probably offer himself up to spare the others... I think he's got more time, just the same, and, like Carol, we didn't see him actually with the Saviors sooo... chances 3/10

Subject: The meeting from Tochi's perspective.

Stardate 2365.02.08
Starbase 118, Conference Room A3 - 0745

Tochi had, of course, known that Captain Drake had no intention of showing up for this meeting at 0800. The man had an inborn punctuality and, also, the discipline instilled by his years of training and service in Starfleet but, in this particular case, neither of those things actually drove Drake's desire to arrive as early as they had. Instead, the Trill surmised, it was Silas' absolute refusal to give the pompous Captain Jacobs a microgram of ammunition to use against him that urged the hyper-punctuality, this morning. So it was that, at 0715, Vaela had taken the CONN and, immediately thereafter, Captain Drake and Lt Zai had left the Peregrine in the capable hands of her crew and made their way to the designated conference room aboard Starbase 118, arriving well in advance of the scheduled start time.

All in all, there hadn't been much conversation between the XO and his Captain, this morning, either. Drake had been relatively quiet and contemplative and, for his part, Zai had affected much the same demeanor - both of their minds, Tochi knew, were likely travelling aboard similar trains of thought - and, so, they sat there for a good while; each reviewing, categorizing, and prioritizing their individual thoughts in the comfort of that shared silence. As the hour drew nearer to 0800, though, the silence seemed to lose a bit of it's easiness to something of an edgy apprehension,

He's dreading this face-to-face with Jacob's, the Trill mused, glancing at his CO and, yet again, mentally reviewing every bit of overlap in the service records of Drake and Jacobs, trying to isolate a particular incident or interaction which could have inspired such a palpable tension. Tochi had formed something of an idea as to where to abrasiveness between Drake and Jacobs might have been rooted but had, as yet, to ask Silas to confirm his suspicions. Instead, he found himself approaching the situation as Kasru might have, playing the political "long game," as it were, waiting patiently, watching intently, and not letting the tiniest detail go unnoticed or unnoted. He'd have his confirmation by the end of this meeting whether it was vocalized or not.

"Here we go," Tochi murmured as the conference room door hissed open. He offered Drake a reassuring grin and got to his feet as Jacobs and his XO entered.

"Mister Drake," Jacobs sneered by way of greeting Silas; the disdain in his intentional misuse of the honorific was as obvious as the haughty set of his visage. The Coronado's Commanding Officer turned his scornful eyes on Zai for a brief moment,

"Sir," Lt Zai said from behind a spurious smile.

, and then returned to Drake and mockingly queried; "Your own executive officer is a lieutenant?"

Had they not been characteristically clasped behind his back, in that instant, someone would surely have seen the fingers on one of Tochi's hands start to curl into a fist. It was an almost instinctual reaction, really, and belonged solely to Tochi, though the symbiont did empathize. He was reminded, in a flood of Kasru, though, that such a reaction would not bode well for anyone concerned, and forced himself to relax his hand,

"On a Saber class vessel, we have a shortage of senior ranking officers," Drake offered a measured response to Jacobs' goading, "Fortunately for us, Lieutenant Zai is as fine an officer as I have had the pleasure to serve with."

Tochi's smile was a bit less spurious when he offered it to Jacobs, again, along with a curt nod.

Captain Jacobs' face avoided a sneer, but his voice did not. "Indeed," he offered before idly indicating the woman to his left. "This is Commander Farr, my own Executive Officer."

"Bethany Farr," the woman introduced herself in a far more pleasant fashion than did her Captain, "A pleasure to meet you gentlemen."

There's our in-road where the Coronado's command staff is concerned, Zai thought as Farr shook hands with Captain Drake, With no lack of disapproval showing on Jacobs' pinched face.

All traces of disingenuousness were gone from the lieutenant's smile when he accepted Commander Farr's hand. "Tochi Zai," he offered by way of formality, "Very nice to make your acquaintance, Commander."

"Drake," Jacobs was already continuing with his imperious posturing when Zai let go of the woman's hand, "you are here because the diplomats have requested to meet the commanders of each vessel - not for your silver tongue. You will answer questions if the diplomats direct any to you, but otherwise, you will speak only if spoken to. At all times, you will show proper deference to the chain of command. Do I make myself clear?"

"Crystal, sir."

After that exchange, Zai was almost relieved that the Rytain and Kuldar diplomats entered at just that moment. The Rytain Ambassador Threel's entrance preceded that of the Kuldar's Ambassor D'lar by a nanosecond, it seemed, but, once through the door, the pair saw to it that the space between them was considerable. There was a flurry of introductions, greetings, and, at some probing by Threel, some explanation as to the difference between rank and title.

",the commanding officer of a Federation starship is always referred to as ‘Captain,'" Silas was explaining to the Rytain ambassador, "One is a position, one is a rank. I hold the first, though not the second."

Threel nodded, appearing mollified by the explanation. "Thank you for clearing up the confusion," he responded.

Silas smiled politely. "Of course."

Well done, Captain, Tochi thought, Despite those initial choppy seas, we're into smoothing sailing, now, it seems.

For the next bit of time, too, it did seem as if all was proceeding as expected. The Ambassadors and Captain Jacobs went over the itinerary for this diplomatic undertaking, proceeded on to discuss the topics of each contingent's staff and their needs, and, then came what should have been a brief discussion on the assignment of quarters and facilities for the delegates aboard the Coronado, Should have,

"Commander Drake," D'Lar barked toward what should have been the tail end of the conversation, "is it not true that you are in command of the superior vessel?"

Zai's eyebrows shot upward, at this, and, from the look on the Captain's face, it seemed that Silas was similarly taken aback. The corners of Tochi's mouth wanted to follow his eyebrows when, after Jacobs had attempted to field the query aimed at Drake, the Kuldar ambassador shut him down and reengaged the Peregrine's CO. Fortunately, the Trill managed to maintain a proper sense of decorum and regained his composure as quickly as it had been disrupted. This was a much harder task to accomplish when, after Silas was allowed a brief moment to explain the differences between his own ship and the Coronado, Ambassadors D'Lar and Threel both opted for ‘smaller cabins on the superior ship.'

Interesting, Tochi thought, trying his very best not to crack a smile in the face of Jacobs' indignant spluttering. It should have been expected, we suppose. Given both Rytain and Kuldar histories, coupled with cultural and tactical tendencies, this kind of ‘Alpha posturing' should have been obvious,

"As you wish, ambassadors," Drake responded diplomatically to the delegates' unexpected demands, I will have quarters prepared for you at once."

"We are scheduled to depart at thirteen hundred hours," a seething Jacobs managed to interject.

The good Captain appears to be boiling himself from the inside out, Zai couldn't help but notice and, truth be told, revel in, as the Ambassadors lobbied their final requests and farewells. Jacobs fumed in silence, though, and Silas seized upon that roiling reticence, contacting Lt Moriden and giving the acting Ops Chief orders to make the appropriate preparations for the ambassadors' arrival.

=/=Aye, sir. ~wheeze~ I'm on it, now. =/=

"Thank you, Lieutenant. Drake out." With that Silas met Captain Jacobs' gaze. "Do you have any orders, sir?"

His lips tight in anger, Jacobs shook his head before speaking slowly and pointedly. "Do not screw this up, Mister Drake."

Silas nodded, unable to keep a smile from tugging at the corner of his mouth despite the tension from the situation.

"Dismissed," Jacobs spat as he spun and stalked out of the conference room.

"Commander Farr," Tochi said, catching the woman's attention before she could be sucked into her captain's wake. He extended a hand which she accepted. "Captain Jacobs looks a bit miffed," he offered with as warm a smile as he could muster, "Please, tell him not to take any of the ambassadors' demands as a personal affront. We suspect that both delegates are simply laying claim to perceived strength in order to mask all too real weaknesses. Certainly he understands that, hm?"

Commander Farr blinked once or twice, offered a nod and a smile of her own, and said; "If he didn't hear you on his way out, Lt Zai, I'll be sure to relay the message.

Again, a pleasure to meet you gentlemen," she said taking her leave, "Good morning."

Once she was gone, Tochi turned to Silas, and smiled. "That went well," he said, gesturing to the door, "Shall we, Captain? We've got a just few short hours to ‘polish a turd' as the good Captain Jacobs might be wont to say,"

A few moments later, in the corridors of the Starbase, as they made their way back to the Peregrine's berth, Tochi glanced sidelong at his Captain and said; "We're pretty sure we've figured out where the animosity between Jacobs and yourself comes from, sir, and, if it makes you feel any better, I thought about dropping him on his pompous ass, myself, in the first minutes we met the man."

((OOC: Boom! That took a minute! Room for interjections and whatnot, throughout. Looking to do a back on the ship post very shortly. ))

"Perhaps," Nyx answered from behind a wry grin, "it means that I care very little for what they might think of or about me, yes?" His gaze swept the room, again, pausing on one face or another along the course of it's travel; regarding each with a bit more curiosity than he'd ever deigned to allow before. When he framed Tatiana in his sight again, he offered a faint shrug along with a short puff of air that may have passed for a chuckle; "And, perhaps, this ‘fear' they have of me is self-inflicted.

I come to this place for the wine," he continued, still grinning, "the mushroom stew, and, from time-to-time - how is it said? - to conduct business, yes? Never have I threatened a one of them, or so much as raised my voice, to that end. Neither have I ever caused a disturbance on any of my visits. I come, I drink my wine, I eat my stew, and, now and again, have conversations. What is there to fear from that?"

The Mith'ganni lifted his goblet again. "Yes," he said following a taste of the wine, "any fear they have of me comes from their own imaginings, I think. Or from rumors nervously whispered across a tavern table, mayhap, hm? They have more to fear, I think, from you, lirimaer," he gestured at Tatiana with his cup, and winked, "With your sorcerous eyes and all your little eldritch trinkets." He feigned a shudder even as he smiled; "Terrifying. Truly."

Nyx smiled in the face of the woman's appraisal of the Mith'ganni and, while the expression had the appearance of amusement, there was a coldness to it that made the smile almost mask-like. Once Tatiana had finished passing her judgement and taken to toying with her ring, Nyx nodded faintly, and reached for his wine. A drink from the goblet washed the smile from his lips and his moon-hued eyes skimmed the room before returning to Tatiana.

"My people must have changed quite a bit since I was last among them, yes?" He sipped at his wine, again, and seemed to contemplate the matter for a moment. "In fact, the last time I recall any attempts to mystify and frighten, as you say, or any ‘meager displays of power,' it came from our shaman," he arched a brow and leaned back, deeper into his shadows, "He died trying to frighten me, in fact." That last was spoken somewhat softer and had more the sound of confession to it than boast.

"As to arrogance," he continued after a moment, a bit of the humor returning to his voice, now, "I suppose you have the right of it, there, my cousin. I have been named so, myself, yes? So, perhaps, this is a truth.

Shall I share with you, another, then," the razor-edged smile flitted across his lips again, "I have learned, in all these many years away from Shanurdir, that true arrogance - the purest form of it - is often a domain specifically reserved for spell-slinging slitches."

"We make it alive to Crandel, this night," Vengador said flatly, the cleric's vigilance not lessened in the least, "And no shamblers emerge from the mist. When we find a dry and comfy inn, the first round is on me, friend Talca."

"That being the case," Talca quipped in response, "I look forward to the next time you are mistaken, hodoer." The syl offered a wink along with that jibe but, as the cleric of Solanis was still enrapt with scouring the landscape about them and Talca, himself, had begun to turn his sights back to the road ahead, it may have gone unnoticed.

After Rae had made an offering of food and coin to the pilgrims, talk among the party began to lean in the direction of providing an escort for the Lysoran Pilgrims. Following some in-talk on the subject, Irel took the initiative and addressed the pilgrims directly; "Oi! Do you folks need some to accompany yerselves to the shrine? Is it far?"

"The shrine is still some days away," the leader called back, "but nonbelievers will not be allowed to visit. Still, thank you for your kindness - the Blue Lady's blessings on you all."

Talca heard the giggling, then, and thought it an odd response or even addition to the conversation, Curious that one should find anything about this funny, he thought, but, then, he realized that the eerie giggling hadn't come from among the pilgrim group but from something else, just beyond them. As fearful moans rose from the pilgrims, groans of a different sort added to the chorus when several figures emerged from the dusk and moved on the Lysorans.

"Lysora save us," the lead pilgrim wailed as one of the dark shapes rushed his group, "they have come!"

"Ed' i'ear ar' elenea," the ranger cursed, nocking an arrow and moving to get a clear shot, As he set the arrow to the string, he sprinted back down the road toward the knot of pilgrims. Dropping to a knee, he drew back the bowstring and sighted in a target...

"Talca," the Shieldmaiden of Falloes called, "how many?"

"Many," Talca answered as he loosed his first arrow, targeting an attacker nearest the panicked pilgrims, He had yet to actually count the number of assailants, of course, but figured that "many" was a good enough estimate for the time being. As he readied another arrow and positioned himself for another shot, though, the pathfinder did start to take a tally,

((OOC: Talca will engage at range until/unless it becomes impractical, targeting those "shamblers" that come too close to the pilgrims or his own party first. When/if ranged "fire support" isn't the best choice, though, away goes the bow and out come the machetes, hacking and slashing at it's finest!))

Stardate 2365.02.07
USS Peregrine; Lt Zai's Quarters - 2233

Officially, Tochi's work day had ended several hours ago. Unofficially, he had let go of his duties as the Peregrine's Chief Flight Control Officer and XO only, perhaps, an hour past. Technically, though, despite the fact that he was lounging on the sofa in his quarters, with the lights lowered, and some soothing Terran Jazz playing softly in the background, he was still working at being Drake's XO. He stared intently at the PADD he held clutched in one hand, almost willing the same file he'd reviewed four times in half as many hours to suddenly provide him with the answers he hadn't already discovered. Will aside, though, Captain Jacobs' dossier wasn't forthcoming with a clear answer as to why he had addressed Captain Drake with such blatant animosity and contempt.

They've served together, in the past, Tochi mused, re-reading Jacob's service record, We know this much. Was it something that happened in that time, then, that makes Silas such a bitter pill for Jacobs to swallow? Or, instead, something less personal and more political?

He recalled his conversation with Drake from earlier in the day, remembering how the Captain had professed to Admiral Harding having addressed him in the same condescending manner. Was there a "Silas Drake Haters Club" in the ranks of Starfleet that he was unaware of and, if so, who were the founding members and what could Drake have possibly done to inspire the formation of such a group? Sure, Drake's own service record was peppered with a very small smattering of Conduct Unbecoming citations, but, having learned to understand Silas' approach to things over these past months, Tochi couldn't imagine that either of those entries could have stemmed from an event bad enough to have prompted such widespread enmity.

Tochi sighed and, rubbing at his weary eyes, let the PADD fall into his lap. "I suppose we'll just tally it up to a personal discordance in their shared past," he said into the air, enjoying the momentary respite provided by closed eyelids, "and keep an eye on them both at tomorrow's meeting,"

The strains of music in the air softened even further, then, as the door chime sounded over them, prompting Tochi to abandon the resting of his eyes. He rubbed at them once more as he hauled himself into more of an upright sitting position, and, at last, let them come open again, blinking first at the chronograph on the wall and, then, the door. "Come in," he called.

The door slid away to reveal Vaela on the other side. In one hand, she held a long, slender bottle and, in the other, a pair of tulip-shaped glasses. She was still in uniform, but her hair was free of it's typical pony-tail, spilling over her shoulders, and her jacket was half open. "Permission to come aboard, sir," she smiled, waggling the bottle and glasses as she asked.

"Granted, Ensign P'Tammah," Tochi laughed, beckoning the Andorian woman in, "You're back earlier than we expected. Didn't find what you were looking for on the base?"

"Oh, I found it," Vaela grinned, her antennae twitching subtly as she, once more, waggled the bottle and glasses, "but, I didn't find anyone to share it with,"

Tochi slid his legs off the sofa as Vaela made her way around it. She settled herself into the spot just abandoned by Tochi's feet and set her payload on the coffee table before continuing.

",and I knew that you, Lt Zai, would not take advantage of your own liberty, tonight, so, I thought I would bring liberty to you."

She nodded meaningfully at the PADD in Tochi's hand; "Still at it, I see?"

Tochi chuckled, leaned forward, and deposited the device on the table; "Just decided to end it, actually.

So," he tilted his head toward the bottle, "What's this?"

"Andorian champagne," Vaela replied, pulling her legs underneath her and relaxing into the sofa, "The real kind, not the synth-drek spit out by replicators. Pour some."

Tochi nodded and reached for the bottle. "You're not celebrating Megan's pending certification with the rest of them, then," he asked, unstoppering the bottle, pouring a sampling of the sparkling, pale lavender wine, and offering the glass to Vaela.

"I had a drink with them, earlier," she grinned, accepting the glass, "but Megan's definition of celebration is a bit, shall we say, boisterous for me to keep up with. I fear Chief Kukkonen will literally have to pour the girl into a transporter before the night is through."

Tochi, in the midst of pouring the second glass, laughed at that. "I can imagine," he snickered, setting the bottle aside, now, and reclining back into the sofa, "She's an excitable one, you know, she climbed us, today, when we told her she'd be getting slots at CONN?"

"Climbed you," Vaela asked in mock-surprise, "Megan? Surely not."

"Like a tree," Tochi nodded.

Both of them laughed, then. "To Megan," Vaela proposed after a moment, lifting her glass in a toast.

"To Megan," Tochi echoed, lifting his own glass, "May her flying be just a bit less bouncy than she."

The glasses clinked together, then, and they legitimized the salute with a sip of the champagne. The Trill and the Andorian, both still chuckling, sat back and finished those first glasses; neither of them saying a word for the duration. After a few minutes, Tochi had drained his glass and leaned forward to set it on the table.

"That was good," he said with a smile, "Thank you, Vaela."

"It goes with the music," Vaela returned, nursing the last remnants of her own glass, "It's nice. What is it?"

"Smooth jazz, they call it," Tochi answered, "Twentieth century Terran. Herb Alpert, we think."

"Mmmm," Vaela nodded faintly, sipping her glass dry, "I like it. I thought I might find you playing, though."

Tochi offered a shake of his head and, then, a nod toward the recently discarded PADD; "Got wrapped up in preparing for the meeting tomorrow. I could play something for you, now, if you'd like."

"Please," Vaela smiled, reaching for the bottle, now, "You fetch your mandolin and I'll pour us another."

"Deal," Tochi said, extracting himself from the sofa and padding across the floor to his bedroom to retrieve the instrument.

"Tochi," Vaela called, pouring a glassful.

"Hmm?"

"Put a shirt on while you're in there, would you? Those, uh, spots of yours are a little distracting."

"Says the woman with blue skin and a pair of perky, uh, antennae," Tochi laughed, reemerging from the bedroom, still sans shirt but with mandolin in tow.

Vaela had refilled both glasses and, as Tochi settled back onto his end of the sofa, handed him one before he could ready the mandolin for play. He accepted, of course, took a sip, and set the glass aside before turning his attention to tuning. After a moment or two of preparation and a strum of the strings to test the sound, he took up the glass, indulged in another mouthful, and, smiled at the woman at the other end of the couch; "What would you like to hear?"

"Something, old," Vaela almost sighed, "and sweet."

Tochi thought for a moment, then nodded, and set his fingers to the strings. When the first delicate chords of an ancient Trillian love song floated into the air, Vaela smiled softly around the rim of her glass, nodded in approval of the Trill's song choice, and, after an instant, closed her eyes and let herself be carried away by the melody.

"Tochi," she veritably whispered halfway through the song.

"Yes?"

"Did you play this for my grandmother?"

"Dervin did," Tochi answered, "yes."

"Tell me more about her," Vaela said, opening her eyes, now, and watching Tochi as he played.

The Trill smiled softly, as memories from several lifetimes ago found their way to the forefront of Tochi's thoughts. Those memories, too, might have influenced his playing a bit, as the music seemed to soften a bit, lilting in a way that only fingers moved by a remembered love might play the notes. "She was a lot like you," Tochi said after a while, his eyes lifting from the strings to meet Vaela's, "Intelligent, strong-willed, talented, beautiful,"

The Andorian woman smiled, her eyes sparkling in the low light; "Did you love her?"

"We did," he nodded,

((OOC: Just a bit of fluff, really, posting to post and wrap up Tochi's day, I'll leave what happens next to your imaginations, fodder for the rumor-mill and such. ))

In that case, I'm pretty sure Talca's actually going to be looking forward to Vengador's uncertainties in the future.

When the pilgrims, at last, replied to Hammerfoot, revealing themselves as little more than the bedraggled travelers that they were, Talca eased tension from his bow string. At the same time, a sigh accompanying the action escaped the ranger's lips, easing the tension in his gut to some extent. His weapon lowered, Talca grinned wryly over his shoulder at Vengador; "Undead, was it?"

((OOC: Any response from Vengador or none at all,))

"This weather has the lot of us drained, it seems," Talca returned the arrow to his quiver, then, and regarded the worn-and-weary pilgrims, as they trudged past Hammerfoot, and found himself hoping his own group didn't look as disheveled as this lot.

Shouldering his bow as the ratty group drew nearer to him, the ranger met the eyes of the apparent leader of the pilgrims. "What word of Crandel, mellon? Anything you might share?"

((OOC: Just doing his job and getting a read of the trail ahead from those who have already seen it. ))

...but, since I put Tochi in the corridor along with Hebert, I should probably mention that, Zai is, at this point, on his way to the bridge where he'll input Thomason's access codes and such into the CONN and do a few other FCO-type things until retiring to his quarters at 2000.

"My name is Tatiana. May I have the pleasure of your name sir?"

The Mith'ganni's smile sharpened all the more at that, and he took up his goblet, again, indulging in a languid sip before replying. "My name typically brings anything but pleasure," he chuckled softly, drawing an uneasy glance from Sarah as she moved to refill Tatiana's glass, "but you may have it, all the same. I am Nyx Shyndyn."

Sarah might have shuddered in the moment she took the elf-woman's gold coin in trade for the bottle she'd left on the table, but, in the flurry of motion that was her secreting that coin away and taking leave of the table, it might have gone unnoticed. Undetected or otherwise, though, the Mith'ganni seemed to take some amusement from it, chuckling softly around the rim of his cup as he took another sip of his wine.
