Not that Sam's got much interacting he can do, really, but, after having read back over some (who am I trying to kid? All) of the posts up to this point, I've started piecing together a rather interesting and somewhat twitchy 'dream sequence' for Dash... I can always work some of the 'finer points' (read: those that might be relevant to the game, anyhoo) into a post after Alacrity's updated but could possibly also make it into a post unto itself (and mybe even provide Willow with some 'incoherent mumblings' to use as post fodder if she likes ).

...but I got as far as fried egg sandwiches, got really hungry, and had to go eat!

That diet is incredible but considering how much energy Phelps (or any other "world class" athelete, for that matter) needs to do what they do on a daily basis, I don't reckon it just sits there turning to love handles or nothin'.

12000 calories, though... Wow!

P.S. Phelps: Human or Fish? Gotta go with human... fish don't have nipples.

You get one this week, two next Thursday, another half of one on the following Friday, but the remaining half is on backorder and won't arrive for 4 to 6 weeks... and when that last half of one does arrive, you'll have your 4 but none of the pices will match in color nor will they fit together properly since the last half of one was from a completely different batch number in which Tab A was replaced by Slot C and, thus, cannot interface properly with Slot B on the two that you'll receive next Thursday because it requires a Tab A not a Slot C, soooooo, your 4 may actually end up looking like a squared off 'U' unless you happen to be able to prop it up with a matchbook and some toothpicks....

Subject: Aw, c’mon! I was havin’ one helluva dream!

In that forever long few minutes Sam Dash had found himself in a place that, as far as he could conjure, was like to be as close to Heaven as a Joo Bah Jeh such as him was liable to get – nothin’ blowin’ up, no one chasin’ him down an’ tryin’ to put a bullet in his brainpan, an’ Miss Will nekkid in his arms – it was downright peacable. Hell, he had almost even forgotten that something… just about everythin’… should be hurting him. He hadn’t counted how many bullets and beatings he’d taken before he ended up here but he knew there’d been a ruttin’ good handful, anyway, and by rights he should have been feeling more than how soft Willow’s skin was and how good her hair smelled and how gorram delicious her…

“Bloody hell, Sam!”

In that peacable place, Sam flinched and practically flew out of the bed… Bed? How’d a gorram bed get inta th’ infirmary?… expecting to see a more than disapproving Wyatt set ta give him an ass chewin’ or worse for grapplin’ with Willow. In the real world, though, that dreamed action came through to the physical body and Sam tried to sit up… Ai yah tien ah! Rung tse song di ching dai wuo tzo!… and the peacable place was gone. Yep, he winced, suddenly remembered as to where he actually was as opposed to where his damn fool mind had taken him, I was right. Ever’thin’ hurts! Jus’ like I figgered… That you, Wyungsung?

“Is he still breathing, Captain?”

Hell yeah, I’m still’ breathin’, Sam wanted to answer, Course, that ruttin’ hurts, too. If the words came out at all, though, it was in the form of a pained groan and the pilot realized that it probably wasn’t going to be long before he did stop sucking air… he wondered if Miss Brigit was all right… and that weasel faced teller…

The smell of Willow’s perfume distracted him again and, for a second, the pain subsided and he found himself drifting back to that peaceful place where Will’s infirmary had a honest and true bed and she didn’t mind rolling around in its sheets with him…

“Well, you’re looking good, brother! Hell of a party…”

Dammit, Kid! Why ya wanna go sneakin’ up on me? Dash might have croaked out the words, ‘Hey, Di-di’, when Asher knelt next to him but pain and fatigue crashed over him again and he didn’t manage to finish with ‘nice shootin’, boy.’

The pilot was in and out of consciousness for the next few minutes. At times, acutely aware of the goings on around him in the ruined bank even if he was in no physical shape to act on or respond to any of it, and at others, scarcely at the brink of lucidity but painfully conscious of how broken up he’d gotten himself. His eyes – quite possibly lit with a fire of panic – shot wide open when the unmistakable boom of an Alliance patrol boat burning in reverberated through the town. Aw, ya gotta be strokin’ me! That’s jus’ perfect, ain’t it!

“…got Nien Mohn breathin’ down our backsides,” he heard the Cap’s voice as his eyes couldn’t help but close again, “an’ I don’ much feel like Gen Ho Tze Bi Dio se, if’n you catch my meanin’.”

Ya gotta get us outta here, Wyatt, Dash wanted to say, C’mon puhn yoh! Ma shong!

“Unless Captain-San went to medical school when my back was turned,” Willow responded pertly, ”you’d best get out of the doctor’s way and let us get to the business of keeping these folk alive. No-one’s in any state to be moved at the moment.”

Dammit! he raged internally, I’d be best off dyin’ right here an’ right now, then! Wong bah duhn! As badly as he might have wanted to haul himself to his feet and get the hell out of this place, Sam knew that, in his current condition there was no way in hell that was ever gonna happen… if he didn’t get lucky enough to die, bleeding and broken, on the floor of this equally humped up bank, he just knew that a squad or three of Purple Bellies was gonna come bustin’ in here in the next few minutes, recognize him for who he really was and make sure he lived, at least long enough to stand trial for desertion, theft and/or destruction of Alliance property, and whatever else the huen dahn’s could come up with. All I needs, now, is fer another one o’ Phoenix’s goons ta show up an’ it’ll be ruttin’ perfect…

“…best be getting with the doc then Captain, while the going is good,” an authoritative voice that Sam didn’t recognize said from the fringes of his fuzzy awareness, “I’ll handle them purple bellies. Time for that money I spent on a senate seat to pay off.”

Mi tian gohn! A senator?... Right… that JW feller’s s’posed ta be a senator…an’ Brigit’s…

“He saved my life,” finally he heard Brigit’s voice, as if thinking her name had called her up outta the Verse. She wasn’t talking to him though. “Are you brothers?”

Must be the Kid. Damn’d Asher always gettin’ the girl! Good fer you, Kid. I tried it an’ all I got was kilt.

“The Doc will fix him right. He just gotta!”

“I’ll be a’right, bao bei,” he tried to say. It didn’t feel like his mouth shaped the words exactly, though.

The schoolmarm must have heard something, though, because the scent of her perfume grew stronger as she came close and whispered in his ear; “Samuel Dash. I want you more than I have ever wanted a man before. So you better recover quick, you hear!”

He forced his eyes open, then, and tried to focus on the near-beautiful-as-Willow lady. Ta mah duh, woman! Wit’ yer man in th’ room an’ ever’thin’? Brass, darlin’! Solid brass! He tried to smile at her, unsure as to his measure of success in creating the expression through the tight, pained grimace that any attempt at moving (or breathing) etched on his face… just in case the smile was missed, though, Sam lifted a hand as much as he could and, like the pilot he was, offered a ‘thumbs up’ as even more people he didn’t recognize crowded in and set about getting him ready to move.

((OOC: Whoa! I wrote something! I figure that, once he starts getting lifted and jostled around, Sam’s liable to try and let himself drift out of consciousness but may not have much luck considering the proximity of the Purple Bellies and such. Of course, he’s got his dreams of Willow and ‘promises’ from Brigit to keep him entertained and/or distracted… More as we go.))

C'mon now, admit it... of all the gamers and DMs you know do the majority of them 'play by the rules' as they were written and presented in the 'official source material' or, per chance, have they dropped in some homebrewed house rules by way of 'adapting' a not-quite-exactly-what-I-was-looking-for system into a not-quite-exactly-what-I-was-looking-for-but-close-enough-if-I-do-this-and-this-and-this-system.

Every system is going to have its ups and downs and ins and outs where mechanics are concerned and not everyone's going to agree with every little thing in there... Can every system or version thereof be played 'as is'? Sure. But isn't it more fun when your GM takes the 'as is' and, through imagination and creative rules tweaking, makes it into something better (or worse, I guess, depending on the GM). Addy said it best, it's not up to the system to determine the 'be all and end all' - that's up to us as players and GMs - the rulesets are there not so much as concrete, so-mote-it-be dogma but more as 'guidelines' and, as such, any system (despite it's perceived shortcomings or failures) can be adapted fairly easily to suit... Unless there's like WotC police lurking around that are gonna arrest you for 'not playing by the rules as written'. *shrug*

...ya don't have to actually buy anything to give it a skimming (as long as you don't take it out of the store) plus there's a Starbucks right there!

After all the back and forth I've read on 4e here (and in several other places) I can't not go and look the stuff over, now... if for no other reason than to see/judge for myself.

I think I may have said somewhere before that, despite what system or what version of the system is the current 'hot ticket', there are always going to be folks at every point along the scale from "Good lord they've ruined it! Don't play this edition or you'll be sorry!" to "OMG! This is what the system should have been all along! Go and get your copy now!" What it all boils down to, really, is personal opinion anyway, right? I like broccoli, someone else doesn't... no skin of my back and, hey, more broccoli for me.

The most 'intriguing statement' I've read regarding 4e so far is that '4e plays like an action movie whereas 2e plays more like a novel'... Given that and the fact that I tend to be more the 'storyteller' vs 'hack-and-slasher' I'd tend to believe that 2e would be 'it' for me in the battle of choosing one over the other but, hey, I likes me a good action flick, too.

Good, bad, or indifferent, you've all convinced me to at least have a look and judge for myself.

...but, yeah, going 100 mph, clubbing a dude with the car, and that forcing the vehicle to a complete stop? Not bloody likely (unless said victim was standing in front of a concrete wall when he got hit or, possibly, if hitting the dude did enough damage to the vehicle to kill the engine).

Anyhoo, I'd simply ignore the 'complete stop' bit and perhaps replace with a damage check to the vehicle (forcing a stop if, for example, crushing old dude with your Impala mashed the radiator back into the engine block and totally fragged all sorts of pulleys and flywheels/snapped belts, etc), factor in a loss of speed for the impact and/or damage, and then make a check to verify that the driver actually maintains control of the vehicle after said collision.

Yeah, I know; "Eol, that doesn't tell me a rassafrassin' thing!"

Like I said, not an 'official' or even 'house rules' answer, but something you might wanna take, tweak, and make fit into your own house rules.

P.S. Welcome to the Inn.

Or is it just whine?

If I recall correctly (assuming that my brain hasn't rotted enough to have consumed those years) some of us did chew 3e and 3.5e pretty good... Of course, most of us who did so were raised on 'basic' D&D and/or AD&D (1.0 thru 2.5e, if you will) and as such were 'shocked and appalled' by the sweeping changes to our beloved system. Whaddya mean skills and feats? What happened to WPs and NWPs and all that 'simple, makes more sense' stuff? And hey! You ruined my rogue...or you ruined my ranger...

Anyhoo... just as it is now with the ongoing debate onsite about 4e... you get those Innmates who might end up preferring that version to any of the previous iterations and, also, you'll get those who scream sacrilage... 'pinions are like pooters; ever'body's got one an' they all stink.

Personally, gimme 2e - 3.5 and I'm okay... haven't played 4e at all so I can't make a solid opinion of my own but if, as I hear, 4e is to 2e like 'action movies' are to a 'good novel', I'd still prefer 2e (cuz I like storytellin' above hackin' and slashin').

Hey! This is a comings and goings thread... not a run your yap thread... Shaddap Eol!
