...just need to wrangle the time to finish and post it.

Sorry for the delay, just been a might hectic hereabouts since late November... haven't had much time to do anything here other than check in from time to time... The family fiasco has mellowed out, at last (my oldest recently moved back in along with all her drama), and I'm hoping the work madness will level out by the end of this week and I can donate part of my brain back to creative endeavors, again.

I'll try my very best to get posted before the end of the week, of course, but unfortunately I can't guarantee anything just yet.

The way things are going, it won't be long at all before there's a big enough crop of brand new baby Innmates to make "Uncle Eol's Camp Runamok" a viable possibility!

Congratulations to you and the Missus, Shield... That is one beautiful baby!

Subject: A Visit From Face Lickolas

Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the Inn
Scarce a creature was stirring; not a Grugg nor a Kaelyn.
The postings were watched in Recruitment with care,
In hopes a new game might be announced there.

A few Innmates were lounging all snug in the chat,
While some curiously pondered, “Where’s Olan at?”
And Big Al with his mustache, and LD with its wrap,
Had just gone on hiatus due to this holiday crap!

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter
Odyson left the bar to see what had shattered.
Away to the door he lumbered like a bear
And YeOlde and Pit F(r)iend followed him there.

The dust that had gathered on a lot of the threads
Made it tricky to see and left them scratching their heads.
But they then saw a sight that warranted a laugh;
A giant Big Wheel being pulled by the Staff.

With a little old driver, dressed as a dwarven spellcaster,
They knew in a moment it must be the Webmaster.
More rapid than gryphons his minions they came,
And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name!

“Now, Addy! Now, Almerin! Now Tann’Talas and Raven!
On, Ayrn! On, Meri! Dang it, Eol, quit misbehavin’!
To the maps of Audalis! No! To the forums instead!
Get this Big Wheel movin’, or I’m shaving your heads!”

As many a Fast and Furious driver has tried,
When they met with an obstacle, Big Wheel Power-slide!
So up to the Inn’s roof the staff members flew,
With Olan on a Big Wheel and some jingle bells, too!

And then, in a twinkling, was heard on the roof,
The sounds of stumbling and someone said, “oof!”
The Innmates they flinched and started turning around,
When out of the fireplace Eol came with a bound!

He was dressed up like Santa for some crazy reason,
And the look in his eye said “Facelickin’ Season!!!”
The Innmates who’d gathered were taken aback,
Wondering who’d be the victim of this Facelick attack?

His eyes - how they twinkled! His dimples – how merry!
But that grin and that tongue were really quite scary!
He ka-jingle-pounced Pyro with a shout of “Ho, ho, ho,”
But suddenly hung in mid-air as someone yelled; “Whoa!”

He strained and he struggled and he gritted his teeth,
But the other mods had restrained him with tinsel and a wreath!
He begged and he pleaded and rubbed at his belly,
“Aw guys, lemme go! They taste just like jelly!!!”

He was good and entangled, that face-licking elf,
And the Innmates, all laughing, cheered; “Facelick yourself!
A wink of Vanadia’s eye and a nod of Brom’s head,
Had let them all know they had nothing to dread.

The mods spoke not a word, but went straight to their work,
And bound up that elf with the face-licking quirk.
Once he was wrapped from his head to his toes,
They tugged on his tether and up the chimney he rose.

Back on his Big Wheel, Olan gave his whip a crack,
And away the thing flew with Eol tied to the back.
And they heard the rest exclaim, ‘ere they drove out of sight,
“Merry Christmas, you Innmates, there’ll be no facelicks tonight!”

((Couldn't help myself! Happy Holidays, folks!))

That's right, Ladies and Gents, Boys and Girls, Fiends, Friends, and goblins. Just got the word that Merideth is done incubating her seamonkey!

It's a boy, of course... born this morning (09 December 2010) at 8:50 a.m. Central Time. 7.5 lbs... she didn't specify how long he was but I'm sure we'll find out sooner or later.

Momma's doing well but is, as you can imagine, exhausted.

Congratulations and much Innmate love to the Ladds and their newest addition.

...after all, had to kick my own suspension of disbelief engine into overdrive when that explosion in the season finale didn't just munch and mangle Rick and Company.

I know, they got out of the building and whatnot but, given the explanation/definition of thermobarics, I find it hard to believe that their 'convoy' was far enough from the blast radius to have kept them safe (sure, maybe they wouldn't have cooked, but they'd have been pummeled into a squishy goo by the shockwave of a blast that size... and I'm pretty sure Andrea and Dale would have been toast)...

Anyhoo, all my theorizing on how the infection reached world-wide pandemic status is just that... theory and speculation... Maybe in later episodes those details will be revealed and we'll find out for sure, eh?

...the infection can spread. If you recall the scene in episode 2 where Rick and company were hacking the zombie to pieces in order to "smell like the dead," there were cautions such as "don't get any in your mouth or in your eyes," right? Things like that kind of lead me to believe that, while a bite from an already infected zombie is likely the quickest, most direct way to become infected, it's entirely possible that getting a nominal amount of infected biological material (be it blood, saliva, or whatever) into the bloodstream will also do the trick.

There has to be another way to become infected aside from being bitten, right? I mean, if there isn't, where did the first zombie come from to begin with? He/she surely wasn't bitten... *shrugs*

...we're still not really sure where the outbreak initially started, are we? I set the trades aside when the series started (and, where I left off, it hadn't been mentioned) and I don't think that a particular "ground zero" for the event has been mentioned on screen either.

Either way, I don't imagine the "early stages" were paid much heed as far as travel and such were concerned... folks get on airplanes and cruise ships and such with colds, flus, fevers, etc, on a regular basis so it's not much of a stretch to think that, early on, it would have been difficult to have an infected person board a plane from NY to London (for example) and, in flight, that one infected person coughs/sneezes/whatever and somehow manages to infect a handful of others on the plane... Perhaps, by the time the first person gets to London, he/she is well on the way to succumbing to the infection but those infected in flight are just starting to get sick... Those folks make their connections or whatever and, trickle-trickle-trickle... World Wide Pants...er... Zombification!

Depth and background are always good... I mean, you don't want to drag things out for your readers too awful much, right? But you do want to know what's gone on before so you have some sort of "reference point" or "empathy" for the characters.

I go on "free writing" binges, at times, where I just scribble down everything that comes to mind where a particular character or scene or circumstance is concerned and come up with some of the most menial, inconsequential, trivial, and tedious details that you could possibly imagine... Not even half of that kind of stuff ever makes it into anything that "my readers" might see but it's there if needed and can be worked into the tale somewhere along the line if necessary.

Speaking of free-writing...

...I seriously doubt the whole "cure is to be found in one of the survivors" theory. Entirely too convenient and improbable all around... As mentioned before, Jenner didn't have the time to analyze the samples to that extent for one thing and, also, gave Rick the "no surprises" response when our hero asked about them.

That same "no surprises" line makes me wonder, though... Would Lori possibly being pregnant be a surprise in Dr Jenner's analysis or, rather, would it be something that he wasn't expecting but wasn't really surprised to find? Hmmmm.....

...but the more I think about it, the more I'm willing to bet it had something to do with the blood samples that Jenner took after he let them in... What do you think?

...even if I, too, was expecting/hoping for a two hour episode (or, at least, an hour and a half... c'mon!!!).

Anyhoo... loved the flashback bit at the opening of the episode. Things were most certainly a mess when Shane last saw Rick in the hospital, huh? Gives you a little empathy for the character where that little bit is concerned, I suppose, and almost made me even like him a little more... buuuut... the later 'follow-up' scene with Lori just reaffirmed the whole "Shane's a nozzle" thing for me and I just can't wait for Shane to get his!

Andrea electing to stay behind at the end surprised me at first (not too much considering the build up they gave her state of mind since the whole Amy thing) but the bit with Dale made it all make sense and, in the end, I thought it was fantabulous.

Also loved Rick pulling the pin on that grenade, setting it down, looking at it for a second and then going "Oh S#!^..."

Speaking of a "Duh" moment.

Come on, Season 2!!!!

From the look of the previews, though, there's gonna be some heavy-duty goings on in the season finale... wanna make bets on who in the cast doesn't make it out of the CDC still suckin' air?

Also... I'm right there with you Meri... couldn't decide exactly what those samples were... kind of looked like brain tissue at one point but, at other times, not so much. I think that's the bit I'm most curious about when it comes to next week's romp... What all is Mr CDC gonna reveal?
