Subject: Gaoyang zhong de guyang!!!

Pinedale, Jiangyin - A little more than a two weeks ago.

Two years.

For two years, Sam Dash had managed to fly under the scanners by playing ranch-hand on Jiangyin. In all that time, the one-time pilot of Rocinante had seen neither hide nor hair of the Alliance, let alone anyone else as Phoenix might've sent on the hunt of his head. It'd been a right peaceable existence, mind-numbing, boring as hell, peaceable, right up until the time he actually went into town and, like a buhn dahn, got himself mixed up in a scrap between a couple of locals.

Sam and his crew had run a herd of cattle from the ranch into the town of Pinedale, that day, and, once they'd delivered the herd to the stockyard, one of the other drovers convinced him that stopping in at the local saloon for a beer or two was a good idea. They hadn't gotten halfway through the first of those beers when, all prior convincing aside, Sam came to realize that how w'rin bu lai, whai w'rin bu jwo,

There was a pretty little philly in Pinedale by the name of Sadie Memphis who had, as pretty little phillies do, drawn the eye of a couple of young colts (Jake Walsh and Henry Hawkins). Jake and Henry were already firing some pretty heated words at one another when Dash and crew jandered into the saloon, and the ‘conversation' between the boys only got fierier as the beers started to flow. Sadie was there, too, and, by the time Dash had come to a middle on his first draught, the girl had got plumb hysterical trying to cool the situation, and that's when things went sideways. Henry, in all his wild ruttin' youth, made the mistake of openly questioning Jake's character in public and, worse, in front of Sadie, So, of course, Jake got all red-eared and drew iron on the other youngster.

Like most of the rest of the saloon's patrons, Sam's attentions had been drawn to the scene and he'd found it mildly entertaining, right up until the gun came out. It was at that moment that two years of boredom and quiet got flipped upside down. With his last swallow of beer held in his mouth against the dryness that had just set it, Sam set his mug aside and turned to actually face the trio, thinking that he probably should do something in this situation, If Jake got too bunched up he was likely to bear down on that trigger, after all, and that wouldn't go smooth for Henry, or anyone else in the place for that matter. Sam forced the swallow of beer down his throat and started to rise from his seat.

"Hey, kid," Dash had started to say, "Why'nt ya holster that smoker an' take a walk. Ain't no gorram sense in puttin' a bullet to,"

He'd barely gotten to his feet when Sadie let out a little shriek and, at the same time, Henry lunged for Jake's weapon,

"Oh, son of a," That next quarter of a second was a blur. Sam charged forward, bulling Henry out of the way even as a hand clamped down on Jake's wrist and wrenched his arm around, The pistol barked, blowing a hole in the oak planking of the bar rather than poor Henry's brainpan, Sadie squealed louder than the gunshot, Henry wet his britches, and, when it was all over, Sam had snatched Jake's gun from his hand, set him on his pi guh with an uppercut, and stood over the younger man, daring him to move.

Later, Sam would figure that it was that incident - less than twenty minutes in the saloon and a thirty second ruckus - that washed away those two years of relative anonymity and set him up for what was to come. Pinedale's sheriff showed up at the saloon, took young Jake into custody, and, after questioning the staff and clientele, found himself duly enough impressed with the ranch-hand calling himself Sam Dash, that he offered the man a shot at a bounty for the apprehension of a gang of bandits that had been having themselves an impressive run in these parts of late. There had been a lead come up that ‘The Deadman Gang,' as they were known due to the newtech zombie masks they always wore, were holed up in a cave not far from Bill Jacobs' farm. As the sheriff was recovering from a broken leg and wasn't able to make the ride, much less go creeping around in a bunch of caves, so, impressed as he was with Dash's handling of the tussle in the saloon, he figured offering the bounty to Sam (and whatever crew he could round up) wasn't the worst way to go about finally apprehending the bungers.

The long and short of it is that, after some consideration, Dash decided he'd take the sheriff up on the offer. He gathered up a small crew, made for the Jacobs' farm, and didn't have too much trouble in rounding up the Deadman Gang as he'd more or less caught them sleeping in their underground hidey-hole. Dash and crew returned to Pinedale with the gang in tow and turned them over to the sheriff whom, in turn, handed over the bounty in the form of scrip that was redeemable at the local bank (if they didn't mind waiting around for twenty-four hours or so for the scrip to be converted to credits). So, there Sam was, at Katie's Kathouse, rather enjoying the newfound notoriety in the company of a girl named Jenny. Just as they were set to getting to grapple, Dash found himself bushwacked and apprehended by some goons who professed to be an "unofficial security team" for the Companions Guild, and, truth be told, Sam stood no chance of defending himself as, when they security team showed up, he was wearing nothing but his birthday suit and a smile. They didn't even bother letting him putting his clothes back on before they shuffled him off to a waiting Arrowhead courier ship.

Now - Location unclear

For the last seven days, Dash had been aboard the Arrowhead with Jenny and a another lovely lady named Amber. They had treated him like an honoured guest for the duration but, no matter how many times he asked or threatened, they refused to tell him where they were going or who had ferreted him out. They did tell him, each time he asked, that he had no need to worry, They didn't give him back his clothes, either, "Because it makes things simpler," they said.

So, after seven days of distraction and dalliances, the Arrowhead finally come around to touching down dirtside somewhere. Jenny showed up to his cabin, informed him that they had arrived at their destination, and, instead of returning his proper clothes, offers over a frilly, pink bathrobe that was a size or three too small. Once Sam was "dressed," Amber showed up with a smile and a pile of paperwork.

"What inna hell is this go suh," Sam asked warily, taking up the documents and starting to skim over the first page.

"That," Amber smiled, "is a full and complete pardon for any of the crimes you may have committed against the Alliance, Mr Trent,"

Twitchy started flooding back in that moment and Sam was all but sure he was going to have to fight his way off this ship in nothing but the frilly, too small housecoat. Jenny and Amber, though, continued to reassure him that he had nothing to fear and convinced him to read through the paperwork with them.

As it turned out, Jenny and Amber were lawyers for the Companion Guild and were currently representing his, as yet unnamed, benefactor. They told him that someone had made a deal with some Nien Mohn bigwigs and this true-as-the-sky pardon was the result.

",All you need to do," Amber continued, "is sign - here, here, and here - and you can be on your merry way."

Skeptical as he still was about this whole thing, Sam figured that there wasn't anything else he could do to get out of the women's custody but sign off on the documents. Once he had, both women offered bright smiles and sincere congratulations as they led him from his cabin to the ship's cargo bay, still without returning his clothes.

"So, bao bei," Sam asked, standing there with one hand clutching the stack of papers that had supposedly served to pardon him, and the other tugging at the too short hem of the housecoat, "Yer jus' gonna dump me dirtside in this get-up? I don't get my ruttin' clothes er even my gorram boots back?"

The women simply giggled as the Arrowheads gangplank swung open. "You're benefactor awaits, Mr Trent," Jenny smiled, indicating with a gesture that it was time for him to disembark.

"It's Dash," Sam grumbled sucking in a deep breath and taking his first steps down the gangway. His heart was thudding in his chest and his hand was itching for a pistol, of course, but, as things stood, there wasn't much he could do but resign himself to taking his leave of the Arrowhead and coming face to face with this mysterious benefactor. Squinting against the light, Dash strode down the gangplank as confidently as he could, given his state of dress. From the looks of things at the end of the Arrowhead's ramp, there'd been something of a ruckus happening just before they'd landed, and there were several folk and flyers littering the landing zone,

Aw, jao gao, he grumbled inwardly as his squint-eyed gaze swept the scene, this don' look at all good.

,He didn't seem to recognize any of the faces on the folk, at first, but, when his gaze lit on the figure of the man walking slowly toward him, all of his apprehension and twitchiness was erased by the disbelieving laugh that swelled in his chest and burst past his lips. "Ta ma de! Ya gotta be strokin' me!" Both the paperwork and the hem of the too-short housecoat fell from his hands, then, and he was no longer walking slowly down the gangplank, he was running,

"Wyungsung, you shifty sumbitch," Dash was laughing and maybe crying at the same time when he reached Wyatt and snatched him up in a crushing bearhug.

First off, welcome to the Inn!

Secondly, check out our Vault (in the menu bar above) for a decent Elven dictionary and phrase book. Dwarven is a bit trickier but a Google search for khuzdul or dwarves dictionary should point you in the right direction.

Finally, feel free to PM me if you have any questions... I'm pretty good with Elven (not so much dwarven).

...is gonna be pretty much the Sam everyone remembers (he's kind of gotten to like it, tbh)... Maybe a few changes to weapons (for example; he's never once used that sniper rifle he had, probably been replaced with a shotgun or not at all) and some updated/new skills or traits but, otherwise, Dash will be Dash and I'm sorry in advance.

Also, MMV and I have, at least, "laid the groundwork" for the Sam and Jade connection, determining that Sam was one of Jade's instructors at flight school before Sam was Sam... Sooo, that oughta make for some interesting cockpit talk, I figger.

Yes it was... I'll get in touch with MMV shortly.

Come to think of it... I think it might've been Tink who introduced Jade and Sam, if I remember correctly. There was something mentioned about that in an "intro to the crew" that Sam gave Jade when she took over for him... I'll see if I can't dig that up.

...I did start writing a "spin-off" some time back in which Tink had Sam shuttled off to Jiang Yin where he worked as a ranch hand... Intent was to have him living out a boring but peaceful existence for a time until, on a trip into town, he got mixed up in an altercation at the saloon, caught the sheriff's attention as a result, and ended up being "hired" by the town to tackle "the Dead Man Gang"...

Never did get too awful far into writing/posting it all up but... *shrugs* ... Dunno if that little bit might help you or not, Roger. Mightn't be too hard for Wyatt to run a trip "home" and find Sam there... Hell, Ol' Dash had even taken to visiting/tending the graves of Wyungsung's wife and daughter if I remember correctly... and got better on that gorram harmonica of his, too.

Found it: The Continuing Adventures of Sam Dash

Not as much posted there as I have written, but, as far as the Inn 'Verse is concerned, that's the last time they saw ol' Sammy.

...from what I understand, it's supposed to take place between Enterprise and TOS... 10 years before Kirk and crew or something like that.

The first episode will be shown on CBS but all episodes after that will be on CBS All Access. So, you know, for 10 bucks a month or whatever, you can watch the thing. The trailer looked okay but, honestly, it didn't make me go "Oh! Cool!"

Didn't like what they did with the Klingons, either... They looked super-plasticky or something... *shrugs*

I may watch the first episode but seriously doubt I'll pay for another streaming service to watch the rest... We'll see.

Stardate 2365.02.11
USS Peregrine Deck One - Main Bridge - 1107

A blustering Jacobs hurled a final, venom-loaded threat at Drake before cutting communications. In the moment that the viewscreen darkened, between the transmission's end and the return to Peregrine's fore view, Lt Zai's fingertips tapped the CONN invoking the intercept course he'd plotted just moments ago,

"It's too bad that a penal colony is too good for me," Silas' mused, "I was just thinking how Tantalus is supposed to be so lovely at this time of year."

"The stockade on Jaros II is more likely, if Capt Jacobs has his way," the Trill offered in the same offhand manor. "We can hope for a room on the east wing, though."

"Tochi," Drake said, then, "put us on an intercept course with the Coronado, get us between her and the Kuldar,"

"Aye, sir," the Trill responded, engaging the impulse engines, "Already done. Moving to intercept. Full impulse."

As the Captain related further orders to Tactical, Tochi relayed some orders of his own to Flight Control. "Lt Zai to Flight Ops," he said, waiting only for the faint blip of an acknowledgement, "Deploy Heavy-Zero-One; combat support."

=/=Affirmative, Lieutenant,=/= came the response even as the Type-10 soared out of the shuttlebay, =/=En route.=/=

"Keep an eye on Owen, Kook," Tochi added.

=/=Of course, sir. As long as she doesn't get too bouncy, that should be easy enough,=/=

=/=Oi!=/= Megan piped in, =/=I c'n hear th' lot o' ye!=/=

"Zai out," Tochi smirked, closing the channel and drawing down the impulse engines as they neared the intercept coordinates.

"Lieutenant Lasad, open hailing frequencies, please," Drake ordered, then, "Full broadcast."

Dio acknowledged the command as quickly as it was given and Silas proceeded with a commanding address. "Attention, all vessels in the Gamera system. This is Commander Silas Drake of the USS Peregrine. We have every reason to believe that the attack by the cloaked vessel was a ruse meant to sow chaos and disrupt the peace process. We have contained this situation, and will obtain full answers shortly. Until further notice, all vessels are hereby ordered to power down their weapons and hold their current positions. Any aggressive acts will be viewed as acts of war meant to undermine the peace process, and will be handled accordingly. Again, I repeat - all vessels are hereby ordered to power down their weapons and hold their current positions until further notice. Drake out."

Tochi drew in a slow breath as he turned the Peregrine back toward the Coronado and the older, larger ship came into view on the screen. He imagines, in that moment, that on the other ship's bridge, Lt Cmdr Farr is making some headway into convincing her Captain to stand down, Doubtful, he muses resignedly, but we can hope,

"Maybe we'll get rooms in the east wing..."

It's meeeeee!

Currently playing in The Bleeding Lute, Star Trek:Edge of Duty, and taking a another run at Trilogy War (because why not?)...

I'm interested in most game genres (although high-magic settings tend to put me off a bit... oh, and just about anything based on anime and/or "furries" is a no go, for me) and, like Finn, I really enjoy the collaborative story telling fun that is found in freeform games. So... I guess I could be pulled into just about anything...

And, did Olan say Zombies in Chicago?!?!?! Dude... Murph has been waiting for a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time.... Doooo IT!!!

Stardate 2365.02.11 (Thursday - 42143.8 )
USS Peregrine; Deck 1 - Main Bridge - 11:02

"Torpedoes away, sir."

For a moment, Tochi felt as if his breath was caught in his lungs and that there was now louder sound in the galaxy than the thudding of his own heart in his ears. His gaze was intent on displays and the viewscreen, his fingers hovering almost eagerly over the CONN.

"First volley," Lt Lasad's voice broke through the sound of blood singing in his ears, "Bearing zero-five-point-four mark twenty-one-point-three-two-five, distance three-two-zero-zero-zero kilometers, results, negative."

The long-held breath escaped Lt Zai's lips, then, in a collective rush, it seemed, with breaths that had been similarly detained about the remainder of the bridge. Come on, he thought, willing the second volley to have more success, Come on!, his fingers almost trembled, now, as their tips practically ached to have cause to guide the Peregrine anywhere else but into attack formation with the Coronado,

"Second volley, bearing zero-seven-point-two-one mark one-six-point-three-three, distance three-two-five-zero-three-seven kilometers," Dio called out, "results... negative."

The Trill mutters a nearly inaudible curse and his hands momentarily ball themselves into fists over the CONN, trying to ease the expectant tension from them. A sigh of resignation very nearly shooshed over his lips, too, but was caught, suddenly, when the Risian Ops Chief spoke up, again,

"Wait! Something's happening."

,Tochi's eyes snapped in Dio's direction, then, and his unfurling fingers fell anxiously, yet, lightly to the controls,

"It's her. The Stormspike! She's decloaking. Coordinates, zero-seven mark one-eight-point-two, distance three-two-five-zero-three-six-point-seven."

,Managing to contain a grin, Zai keys in the coordinates as quickly as Lasad can speak them,

"Captain. She's adrift," the Ops Chief continues his report, "Engines are off-line as are a number of their major systems. Life support appears to be failing as we speak. There are fewer than five life signs on board and they're weak."

All that damage from what amounted to a shot in the dark, Tochi mused ruefully, Whoever may be on that ship had to know that two Federation vessels would have them greatly outclassed, had to know this attack would be tantamount to a suicide mission,

"What about her shields and weapons," Silas asks.

"All off-line, sir," Dio answers. The handsome Ops officer pauses to acknowledge a chirp from his monitor, then, adds; "I'm also in receipt of a coded transmission that appears to have come from the Stormspike, sir. I'll work at decoding it."

"Excellent work," the Captain acknowledges.

,Tochi is almost certain that he can feel Silas' thoughts in that moment, Ordering the Peregrine out of her formation with the Coronado to intercept the Stormspike would mean violating orders. However, given that the ancient Kuldaran vessel had been disabled, its life support failing, and indications of the similarly waning life-signs of her remaining crew (any of whom would prove invaluable as evidence toward whatever force was truly behind their assault), neither could it be ignored,

"Lieutenant Berk," Silas commands after an instant, "send a six person security team to Shuttlebay One. Have them take a Type-8 shuttle and fly to the Stormspike. They can beam survivors out one at a time in order to properly secure them. If the Stormspike brings her weapons back online, they may fire upon her. I would greatly prefer that the crew be taken alive, however."

,As Berk acknowledges the Captain's order, Zai nods and transmits a ‘heads-up' message to Flight Ops,

"Subsequent scans of dark matter have not turned up any indication of additional cloaked vessels, sir," Asovil offers, invariably drawing Tochi's eyes briefly away from his console.

All though Tochi was fairly certain Asovil had to be elated that her dark-matter scan had been successful, there seemed to be a tinge mild disappointment in the Andorian woman's voice at the latest report. "That's a good thing, Lieutenant," Tochi smiles, the expression co-mingling reassurance and congratulations, "It means there shouldn't be any more surprises."

"Dio," Captain Drake says, then, "Hail the Coronado, please."

"Aye, sir," Lasad, snatches his attentions away from his work on deciphering the Stormspike's last transmission, and quickly complies with the order, "On screen."

The smile fades from Lt Zai's face as he turns his gaze back to the viewscreen. As Jacobs' churlish countenance fills the viewer, Tochi draws in a deep breath, lets it go in something of an exasperated sigh, and forces his attentions to the CONN lest the mere appearance of the Coronado's Captain inspire any more "disrespect" from the Trill.

"What do you want, Mister Drake," Jacobs snips in a thoroughly disinterested tone.

Captain Drake, you imperious son of a, Tochi's jaw tightens and he comes very close to literally biting his tongue in order to keep the words from passing from mind to mouth.

"Sir," Silas responds, ignoring the Jacobs' continued effrontery, "Sir, we have disabled the Stormspike. I strongly believe that it would be far more prudent to capture her remaining crew, and thus prove who his behind this attack, than it would be to complete an attack run of our own at this time."

"You think so, do you," Jacobs sneers. "I think that would be a waste of valuable time. Did you know, Mister Drake, that above and beyond the Federation lives that have been lost—those who you seem to assign so little value to—that the majority of the Rytain diplomatic staff aboard the Coronado have been murdered in an explosion? Stop bothering me with your trivialities and begin your attack. Jacobs ou..."

Zai's hands move from hovering over the console to gripping its edges, likely in an attempt to keep himself from bolting out of his seat and confronting Jacobs, himself. Ranking officer or not, Jacobs' disdain and utter disrespect for Drake had gone far enough,

"SIR!"

,Silas' barked interruption of Jacobs' haughty attempt at a dismissal almost surprised Tochi, almost, Silas has had enough, too, it seems, he couldn't help but smirk as he found his grip on the CONN easing, and he couldn't help but look to the viewer, now, in order to see what sort of reaction Silas' boldness might evoke from Jacobs,

"This situation is not as simple as it seems," Drake vehemently persisted, "I cannot abide an attack on innocents; this act will ensure failure of our mission. I implore you, sir—delay the attack run long enough for us to investigate."

Jacobs' face grew even colder than usual. "If we break the attack run now, Mister Drake, the enemy vessels will be better able to organize, or may choose to escape. A decisive victory here will force the Kuldar to capitulate to our demands."

Demands? Zai's features skew in bewilderment. We're supposed to be the moderators at this summit, you self-important ass; we have no demands,

"Really, Commander," a condescending Jacobs continued, "I have made no secret of my doubts as to your fitness to command. But cowardice in the face of the enemy? Especially such an enemy as this? You surprise me yet again."

The expression on Tochi's face went from one of irritated confusion to near unchecked anger at warp speed. It was all the Trill could manage, just then, to keep from firing a blistering response of his own to that slander. It took so much effort not to light into Jacobs, in fact, that Tochi found himself actually rising from his seat in protest. He caught himself, though, when, behind him, Silas drew in a deep breath.

"Captain, I must insist that you stop this madness at once," Drake says, fighting to maintain an even tone, as his XO forces himself back into his seat at the helm, "I will not allow you to press this ill-advised attack on innocents."

"I honestly do not care what you insist, Mister Drake," Jacobs snorts, "This attack run will happen with or without you; there is nothing that you can do to prevent it!"

Tochi glanced over his shoulder just in time to see Silas snap from his seat and stand defiant under Jacobs' haughty glare. "Captain Joshua Jacobs," Drake spared no measure of authority in his tone, "I find your judgement to be critically impaired to the point of endangering our mission. By the authority invested in me by the United Federation of Planets, I hereby remove you from command of this mission. You will stand down at once and await further instructions. Please do not force me to place Commander Farr in command of your vessel, as well."

The silence that falls over both vessels bridges in that instant leaves Tochi momentarily deafened by the sound of his own heart beating in his ears. His jaw had been clenched far too tightly up to this moment for it to have fallen open, but it did loosen a bit and, as the Trill's fingers began to move across his console, his lips might have curled into the beginnings of a satisfied smirk.

"You insolent cur," Jacobs blusters in reply, "I will relish in your court martial. You cannot remove me from command!.."

Technically, he can, Lt Zai grins inwardly as he cues coordinates into the CONN that will, at Drakes command, take the Peregrine out of formation with the Coronado if need be, and, if we're not mistake, he just has.

",Not from this mission, and certainly not from my own ship! How, pray tell, do you propose to enforce your lawless declaration?"

"Sir," Silas' face was an icy mask, "the Peregrine greatly outclasses the Coronado in terms of combat effectiveness, even when your vessel is whole. In your current state, if you compel me to the use of force, the encounter will be brief and one-sided. Stand down from the attack run now, sir, and await further instructions. Please do not force me to escalate this situation."

"Coordinates laid in to intercede in any attack run the Coronado should make, Captain," Lt Zai advises quietly, his gaze moving from Drake toward Lt Berk, He had been prepared to request that the CTO target the Coronado's engines if the other ship initiated an attack, but that request was preempted by Lt Lasad's report,

"Sir," the Risian Ops Chief interjects, "The translation of the coded message is complete. It simply states; Strength and Honor."

Strength and Honor? Tochi arches a brow. That phrase is familiar, somehow, has become more familiar in these past days, have we heard it in our dealings with the Ambassadors, perhaps? The Trill's other brow climbs higher on his forehead to match the other as the realization dawns on him. Yes! The first time was at the Starbase, wasn't it?... Or was it at the Reception?... Either way,

"Sir," Lt Zai offers, following Dio's announcement, "We recognize those words. We've heard them ourselves in our dealings with Ambassadors, Strength and Honor is a Rytain axiom, if we're not mistaken,"
