Indeedily doo!

For the record, Alex has "failed his insight check" where Alice is concerned... he knows that there's something not quite right about her and can pick up on the taint to some small degree but, due to having been drinking, lack of sleep, and the recent albiet pleasant distraction provided by Penelope, he's not 100% clear on exactly what he's looking at... Is this just some poor little Gifted kid who's been tainted by whatever through no fault of her own? Or... should I be worried about my cat?...

Subject: It's just a little... girl?

Alex was already on the sidewalk before he heard Penelope call out for him to wait. He did stop, of course, in the middle of the walk just outside the front door of the place. His gaze swept the length of the street - turning first in the direction that Smoke had chosen not to go in order to ensure that no nasty surprises might be coming from that direction, then, in the opposite direction to see what the bast had been so anxious to get out and see, A little girl? What? - before he turned his gray eyes back to the siren to acknowledge that he had heard her.

"It's just some kid," Alex shrugged, his eyes tracking back up the street in search of the adults that would surely be close behind their adventurous offspring - there were none. Again, his turned in the opposite direction and regarded Smoke as she padded after the little girl in the blue dress and he wondered, at first, why Smoke would have been so dead-set on getting out of the house just to see a little kid up close, it was at that moment that Alex noticed the funky tinge to the little, blonde girl's aura, and the wings that, he hoped, were nothing more than some weird attempt at a costume even though Halloween had long since passed,

The kid had turned around, then, and spotted Smoke close behind. "Hello kitty," he managed to make out the little blonde's sweet voice as she leaned over and offered her tiny hand to the bast, "are you out for a walk today, too?

All Alex could do was gawk. Aside from the bone and leather wings and the seriously bitter tang that the girl's essence imparted it was almost a cute scene, almost,

"I don't like this," he murmured, casting a sidelong look at Penelope who was now on the sidewalk herself,

Thanks, Meri...

Anyhoo... as a for example to tha above talk of dice rolls, etc... in the present situation, given that Alex isn't privy to the "dream info" that Smoke has gotten from Janelle and has only really "caught a glimpse" of Alice, at this point, once he gets outside and sees that Smoke is chasing after what appears to be a six-year-old girl in a really weird halloween costume, I don't imagine he's actually going to start lobbing soulfire blasts at the little girl just because she's weird looking. Sooo, as long as Alice doesn't go all 'evil', Alex is liable to "back down" of the readying of soulfire and such... no combat actions taken (aside from maybe leaving the shield in place becasue... well there's a glowing ward, may cat's chasing a really freaky kid (who's all alone on the streets of Chicago, no less), and, holy-crap, that little girl's essence is really off isn't it?

Now, if Alice suddenly whirled around and tried to unload on Alex, I imagine there'd be a dice roll to see if he managed to dodge the attack at all or something along those lines... maybe, wouldn't even be necessary at that... I figure as powerful as Alice is, if she wanted to unload on Alex, he may not stand a grand chance of getting out of the way and might just take the brunt of the attack... *shrugs*... Like I said, though, I don't think dice will always be necessary but, if we come to a point where we'd be best off "truxting the dice" I'm, not at all opposed and more than trust everyone involved to be honest and non-fudgers!

Not so sure that it'll come to combat, myself... at least not yet... I guess we should kind of decide exactly how we'll be handling things like that, though, shouldn't we?

IMO, this whole this is much more about the story (and the storytelling) as opposed to "following the rules" and "fussing with dice rolls" to resolve combat situations, though. The character sheets and other "rules specific stuff" are there as points of reference as opposed to "hard and fast" statistics... *shrugs*... I'm fairly sure that, when it comes to combat situations and the like all of our players are more than trustworthy enough to just kind of "go with the flow" and "take their hits" as appropriate and/or "beneficial to the story telling"... That said, I'm not at all opposed to tossing out some dice rolls when/if we get to a point where the 'randomness' of a dice roll is better than just "winging it".

What was i talking about...

Okay... there's Alex's update... Smoke's reaction possibly has him more freaked out than the ward itself, at this point and he's pretty sure that Smokie's not telling hims something important (Lucy! Jou got some splainin' to doooo!) but, atm, he's just "backing up his buddy"...

In the absence of his trusty 9mm, Alex has "instinctually" started weaving a shield and is loading up a little Soulfire just in case... hoping it's not necessary just yet but.... *shrug*... Don't freak out my cat, dude! It makes me twitchy!

P.S. Hmmmmm... Yeah... the Indy thing could just work...

I was trying to give you some alone time, Smoke had begun to tease as she padded into the room,

Alex turned his eyes her way for a moment, a befuddled expression on his face, and inclined his head towards the glowing sigil as if to say ‘explain that.'

,Whatever playful barb Smoke might have prepared to follow the alone time remark apparently had been quickly forgotten and the bast's languid pace, too, was discarded in deference to a quick dash and leap into the front window, Rosie, the clock,

"Do what?" Alex arched a brow at the very un-Smoke-like reaction, his eyes darting from where the bast stood in the front window, to the clock (still covered by the tapestry he'd draped over it earlier), to the stairway and, finally back to the front door just in time to catch a glimpse of what appeared to be a little girl skipping happily past the shop. "What the hell're you talkin' about, sweetheart," he had been prepared to ask just as Smoke tensed and sprang from the window and raced to the door,

Alice? No, It can't be,

"Alice," he repeated, his eyes glancing curiously in Penelope's direction before returning to Smoke, who was now desperately trying to get a hold on the doorknob, "Who's Alice? What's goin' on, Ellgawen,"

Damn lack of thumbs! the bast was obviously ignoring his questions and was dead-set on getting outside, for some reason. Let me out Alex, she demanded, now, I need to get a better look, LET ME OUT!

Alex's eyes went wide and, while he hesitated for a brief instant, his hand did move to open the door for the bast. Smoke was always a bit pushy but it was a very rare thing for her to be so demanding and even rarer for her to express the sort of urgency that she was now. The insistence of her tone and her actions caused him to almost instinctually begin gathering and focusing his essence, He didn't like it.

"All right," he said, his hand closing on the doorknob as he cast an uncertain glance in Penelope's direction, "Relax. We're goin',"

As he swung the door open and stepped across the threshold in Smoke's wake, Alex's hand reached for the Glock that was usually tucked in the waist of his jeans only to find that it wasn't there, Never got it off the nightstand this morning, Damn! Rather than lament the weapon's absence though, he focused some of the gathering essence into the beginnings of a shield and bent the rest towards something that, hopefully, he wouldn't need,

"I'll be right back," he said to Penelope without looking in her direction - his eyes were intent on chasing the bast up the sidewalk and his feet were quick to follow, I hope, he added mentally,

...that Smoke is pretty open with him about the fact that she considers herself "Alex's guardian," myself. True, he's probably not seen half of what she can do but I'd imagine that he trusts her when she tells him that she can handle herself, etc...

Anyway, all of that aside, Alex will surely be hesitant about letting her out, regardless... He'll do it, of course, but... *sigh*...I'm afraid he won't be able to let her go alone... And that little girl really creeps me out, too...
