If I listed all the nicknames that have ever "stuck to me" for any length of time, we'd be here for days!

Just realized that I forgot to answer the pet question, too:

Have a Chow/Sharpei mix named Ollie (he's a big doofus of a dog but nobody comes into my house/yard uninvited) and a Tuxedo-wearing cat named Domino.

Subject: Oh geez... nicknames!!!

There are sooooo many! Where to start?

Thumper (Dad gave me that one when i was still in utero - guess I was a fetus with a kick )

Rabbit (Another one of my Dad's - derived from the earlier Thumper and probably had something to do with "Robert" and "rabbit" sounding a like after a night at the pub)

CAT (yes, all caps, it's more an acronym than a name... given to me by an "old gang" of friends...stands for Crazed And Treacherous... this one spawned a few others "Don Gato", "the Catman", Cuz'n Cat, etc)

Rub M'Bum (Lyskhala is sort of responsible for this one... long story about what happens if you don't sign your name legibly when attending meetings)

"Da Beaner" (My brother in law hit me with this one... when we first met, he was under the impression that I was Mexican and blahblahblah)

"F--king Dracula" (Father in law... long story! :BG

Dag Nabbit (My gameshow host alter ego... Welcome to another exciting episode of Save That Puppy! I'm your host Daaaaaaaag NABBIT!... lys is sort of responsible for this one, too)

Like I said, the list goes on and on... those are some of the more interesting ones, though.

Subject: Plot Points

Al laid this out earlier in the thread but I went ahead and copied it back here just for you, Fuby!

"What are Plot Points?

Note – Still not sure how this is going to work within an online game. This is the idea for the moment but I am open to suggestions.

Plot points are the characters chance to directly effect the outcome of the game. Everyone starts with 6 points, and can have a max of 12 at anytime. You expend plot points at any point in the game by adding a note at the bottom of your post or by PMing me.

Improve a roll – You call it before you do it. The number of plot points you use is the die you get to add (so 6 plot points equals a d6). For example, Wyatt wants to take out a Varmit with his gun. The Action is Formidable (15) due to cover. So Bromern says he is shooting at the man and added 6 plot points to his roll. So I would use his Agility + Gun Skill + d6 to roll his to hit roll, thus adding to the chances of being successful.

Save a Miserable Roll This is after the fact. You have failed on an action and you don’t want that to happen. Each plot point you expend is equal to a half point of increase. In online game play, this is done by a post to Q&A or a PM asking if you can change that outcome. For Example, Sam needs to pilot the ship through a tight space. I post that he attempts the move but fails and does considerable damage to Rocinante. Eol asks if he can change the outcome. I look at what he needed (19) and what he got (16) and tell him he needs to expend 6 plot points to change the outcome.

Stay Alive This will be what you use them for the most. You can effect the damage done to you by expending points. Each 6 points gives you a d6 of damage reversed. For Example, Willow has been shot for 12 points of wound damage. She only had 10 life points left and she needs to stay alive badly. So she expends 6 points to get d6 life points back.

Manipulate the Story You can change the story with 1-3 points expended. It can only be a simple change, nothing that will throw of the entire plot. For example, you meet with a major underground figure and you need an in with him. Kora expends 3 points to make it that she knows this man from the past. Not close friends but enough to make an introduction possible.

How do you gain Plots Points?

Your Complications are meant to make things interesting for the characters. Playing your complications is the best way to get plot points. Allowing yourself to be flawed, to make mistakes and in some way advancing the story will bring you plot points. Allowing your character to succumb to their “greedy” flaw or speaking honestly when the situation calls for a lie are food for plot points. Not every time you use a complication will net you points, only when it is done to advance the story.

For example – Wyatt and his crew have finished a job to find their employer is now dead, and his killer is standing over the body. Mr. Killer offers Wyatt three times what the employer was offering to pay for their job, as long as they just walk away. The money is good, and it would go well into fixing a huge pile of troubles. But Wyatt has Straight Shooter (Honest) and Credo (Loyalty to Word) as complications. He looks at the body. He looks at the offered platinum. He draws his gun and shoots.

You also get points for completing challenges within the game, doing cool or interesting ideas that make the story fun or exciting."

Still stuck on Al's and Lyskhala's, though...

Try this one:

...For the truth to be told
And the plan to unfold
We must start asking why

Don't you know the war is far from over now
What a stumbling block we've fallen over now
As our brothers die defending no one
The war is far from over now

Liberation, a moral charade
For the cause is a part of your[]...

Topic: Continuing Where We Last Left Off
Subject: Anyone else speak Wynter?

Beloved?

Her voice had surprised him for some reason and at the sound of it Jal had nearly fumbled the neat bundle of spider-legs he had sorted from his conglomeration of spell components; “Wynter?” He quickly poked the arachnid limbs into their pouch as his head swiveled in search of the girl but he couldn’t catch sight of her.

Jal, I can’t…

“Wynter!” He called a bit louder as he got to his feet and turned about, still trying to will her into sight.

She comes, Jal. She comes. Darkness can’t last. Wynter’s voice slowly fades away again, barely a whisper in his mind, The light…

The urchin-mage’s heart suddenly felt like it was made of stone. The distance of Wynter’s voice and the aggravated tone of it had turned the organ both cold and still. “She? Wynter?” Jal tentatively took a step in the direction he thought her voice had called from; “Who is she? What darkness, my love? What light?”

She’s gone, Jal realized after waiting for a moment that felt like a lifetime. He wanted to scream her name as loud as he could in hopes of calling her back but something told him that she wouldn’t answer. Besides, to do so now would be even more foolish than if Valentine had been allowed to conjure up his “distraction”… “Wynter, my love,” he whispered hopefully, “I hope you’re all right…”

He spent the next little while, worrying over the plight of his companion – what had she gotten into since he had scared her off? – trying to muddle through the cryptic bits of messages that she had been able to whisper to him – Who was “she”… what was this about darkness and light… why did Wynter seem so far away? – and keep himself busy tending to the bits and pieces of his gear that would, no doubt, become far more useful very soon. It wasn’t until Char and Dapple returned and related their findings that Jal realized that, perhaps, Wynter’s messages might actually make more sense to one of the others…

“I foun’ tracks abou’ da keep groun’s,” Char reported, sounding almost as if he was troubled by these last facts, “Dey were givin’ chase t’ someone… female…” The ranger slowly revealed the dagger, holding it up for everyone to see before offering it over to Arien.

Female? Jal mused, wondering at the pause and the half-shared glances amongst the “original” members of this troupe, She?

It was the demeanor of the ranger and the rogue, along with Arien’s reaction when the dagger was offered to him, that spurred Jal to share Wynter’s message.

“A female you say, Char,” the spellbinder asked, still regarding Arien rather curiously.

((OOC: Assuming an affirmative...))

“I do not know if it applies, my friends, but…” he glanced back at the spot where he had been sitting when he had heard the girl’s voice, “…Wynter tried to tell me something. She seemed very far away… very upset… but she metioned a female.

She comes, Wynter said,” Jal repeated Wynter’s words, his ice colored eyes nervously flitting from face to face, “ She comes and Darkness can’t last.

She also said something about the light,” he offered, realizing all of the sudden that to them this might sound like nothing more than his 'lunatic ramblings', “but…she… faded before I could hear any more.” His gaze lingered on the knight who still cradled the blade in his hand, then turned worriedly towards the keep… Please be safe, my dear girl…

“Does it mean anything to any of you?”

((OOC: Okay… might have made a few assumptions as to Arien’s reaction, etc, and that Jal isn't aware of who Alloryn is or what the dagger might actually mean, but can edit as necessary if it’s “off”. If asked any further, Jal will say that he’s worried about Wynter – something was “different” this time but he doesn’t know exactly what…))

“Good to see you too, Dash,” Griffith smiled, shrugging off the pilot’s good-natured hacking, “Let’s move back a bit so we can have some privacy.” The man gestured towards an out of the way booth; “Your shipmate there seems to be occupied with the young lady so we can keep this between us.”

Dash shrugged and offered a fractional nod, his gaze tracking first to the booth, then to where the Kid stood nursing his milk and a sheepish eyeful of Beth’s ample blessings, before skimming over the remainder of the place again. “Ku,” he chuckled, stepping aside so as to let Grif lead the way, “I reckon if we’re gonna sally round with the likes o’ you, outta the way’s the best place ta do it.” He took another slug of beer with one hand and, with the other, playfully nudged Royale’s captain as he slid past.

Sam, of course, had sensed Wyatt’s consternation when he had started giving Grif the row… this rule o’ three’s really got him bunched up… and, as they fell in behind the dragonfly captain and worked their way towards the booth he muttered; “Relax, Wyungsung. I’s just ribbin’ the guy; din’t mean ta get yer pooter puckered. That superstition’s gonna fry yer noodle.” He clapped a hand on Wyatt’s shoulder as they reached the booth to emphasize the apology. Then, as Wyatt settled in across from Grif, Sam hauled the mug to his lips and surveyed the barroom, once more, over the rim on the thing before taking a seat himself.

“…The crybaby story is what me and Deke, my pilot told the authorities. I am none too eager to tell you the details, so let it rest at the fault was my own and I blame no other Bie Woo Lohng.” Grif was saying when Dash settled into his seat and turned an eye his direction.

Well, I din’t figger Deke ta be no chwen, so that ain’t surprisin’… still like ta know the facts of it, though. Wyatt didn’t push the man on the subject, though, so in deference to getting his friend even more on edge, Sam let it pass, too.

Grif continued; “… I have the 400 I owe in the pot I just won, but you’ll understand if I am none to eager to lose what I have got to fix Royale. So I have a proposition for you, if you’ll hear me out.”

Wyatt nodded by way of urging Griffith on, but otherwise remained quiet, his tumbler sitting in the table in front of him.

“We were on the way to complete a job, and I can’t do that now. What if I give you the what’s and wherefore’s, let you take it from me. It is a good job, simple hauling but you need special equipment, which I have in my hold.”

“Simple haulin’?” Wyatt raised his eyebrows and cocked his head to the side.

Uh-huh, Sam thought, lifting his eyes from the dissipating head of his brew, an’ I’m the gorram gov’ner o’ Shinon… He smirked a bit and flicked a sidelong glance at Wyatt but tossed another swallow of beer down his hatch before he could vocalize his thoughts. To the pilot’s way of thinking, there wasn’t any sense in getting the Captain any more bugged-out about luck than he already was – at least not yet. So, as Griffith went about painting his picture, Dash did his best to make sure his mouth was otherwise occupied throughout the rest of the discourse.

…Griffith leans back, “What do you say boys? I can’t do better than to drop a job in your lap and not ask a finder’s fee. Hell, if you return the containers to the Miner’s Guild, you can take my deposit as well.”

Wyatt glanced at him, then, and, in reply Dash offered a shrug that said; “The math’s good, Cap, but it could get wei shan if we don’t get the whole story. You call it…”

Sam grinned when Wyatt shook his head and returned his attention to the other captain, hammered back the remainder of his whiskey and said; “Ai Yah Tien Ah Griff, but you’re paintin’ a pretty right nice. I mean, I’d have t’ be a Buhn Dahn t’ turn it down the way you painted it, but see? That’s what bothers me. Luck o’ Three’s on us here, Puhn Yoh. Got me a hold full o’ cargo I been stuck with rather unexpected like an’ then there’s the condition o’ Royale t’ figure in all this. What ever happened to yer ship’s yer business, but if it had to do with this run that yer offerin’ I’d sure like to know. After all, I got me an’ mine t’ look out fer.”

“Them’s good figgers,” Dash added, burping the last word as he set his empty mug down on the table, “but, like the Cap says, we’re a’ready up ta our pi gu in bum luck, Grif. Way I see it, Regina’s about seven days out from here on hard burn, let alone runnin’ out ta this Hulawhore Mine to collect the cargo first. If we take a big damn nick on th’ cargo we a’ready got, we’ll be lucky ta get Roc enough fuel ta get off th’ ruttin’ dock…”

He leaned back in his seat, glanced at Wyatt to make sure he hadn’t said too much (he wasn’t the best at “negotiating,” after all) “…an’ I ain’t lookin’ ta get tangled up in whatever politics got yer boat humped, neither. Better just ta avoid that kinda mi tian gohn all t’gether, get me? Gonna need ta cozy up ta some assurances, Lao Sheong."

((OOC: Just chippin’ in… Like the Cap, Sam’s figuring that there’s more to Grif’s story, of course, but he’s not opposed to doing the job if the pay works out… He's kinda thinking about them purple belllies what was sniffin around on the docks, too...Edits if necessary.))

Jal looked a little dejected when Char seemed to vote him out of the recon party but smiled and nodded at Dapple’s almost eager-sounding question. “Of course,” he said, hoping that his answer might put the ranger more at ease with taking him along, “taking you out of mundane sight is simple enough. Should you wish it… and trust in me enough to do so… I could even fly you from…”

“Invisibility? Don’t be foolish,” Adrian chose to interject even after Arien suggested masking the recon party, “Deception is for those who cannot accomplish through natural skill. I have never, nor will I ever touch such magics. My arcana is strictly for enhancing direct abilities... of course, others in our company might have reason to hide from the mundane eye.”

Jal sighed softly and rolled his eyes but didn’t so much as glance in Valentine’s direction. The spellbinder felt Adrian’s eyes upon him, almost encouraging him to engage in another verbal sparring match, though. He knew that the former Red’s perception of such magics must have been skewed (aren’t they?) and that there were plenty of uses for deceptive magic (aren’t there?) but, after his argument with Adrian the previous day had caused Wynter to flee, Jal dared not allow himself to repeat that episode. Thankfully, Sir Thedell rebuffed the battlemage before Jal’s irritation could coax him into words.

“Indeed, good knight,” Jal agreed, turning his eyes toward both Arien and Valentine, “While a distraction of the nature you suggest, Adrian, might be useful, it would more likely draw more attention than necessary. Stealth and caution, I think, are called for here…”

((OOC: Just figured I should at least answer Dapple's question and such... Jal had hoped to go along on the recon but he'll stay at camp if the others think it best. ))
