...Welcome to the Inn, Jenethia! And, thanks, Hammer! *grins*
Looking forward to Jen's concept!
Coming up with powers for these folks is definitely gonna be interesting... Seeing what you all do with them, even more so.

Wasn't expecting this much interest this quickly! You guys are awesome!
So far, I've got two fantastic concepts, one that's off to a smashing start, and one more that I'm waiting to see for the first time but, I imagine, it'll be pretty fantastical, too...
So, that's four... Reralae, Hammer, Mortsonne, and Silent One... got room for two more if anyone's interested but should be able to start with the troupe I've got (once concepts are all finished).
Guess I'll get started on the QA and such.

I think Annie will work out just fine...
Waiting on Hammer's concept and interest and/or concepts from others. Once I've got four solid characters in hand, I'll kick off a Q&A thread and work up an intro post or two for a game thread.

So, Innmates, what are your thoughts on metahumans (or, if you prefer more recognizable terminology, “superheroes/supervillains”)? Ever wondered what it might be like to suddenly find yourself with superpowers? Ever wondered what you’d do with those powers? Would you use them mostly for ‘self-gain’ or would you take the ‘with great power comes great responsibility’ route, maybe, and go all Spiderman? Would you keep your powers/identity a secret or would you be more inclined to a little less discretion? Heck, for that matter, would you even want the power(s) you ended up with or would it be more of a curse than a gift for you?
Even better question… Wanna find out?
After being ‘laid up/laid out’ for most of last week and watching a few episodes of ‘No Ordinary Family’ and ‘Heroes’ on Netflix, I kind of started running those thoughts/questions through my mind (for probably the umpteen-millionth time since I was old enough to watch Superfriends) and decided, you know, I’d love to see how some of the Innmates might handle the sudden burden of super-powers! To that end (and to get a new game running and mayhap liven the boards up just a skosh), I’ve whipped up a little adventure seed that could certainly allow you to explore those possibilities.
My plan is to run this as rules-based but to a certain extent “rules-lite” adventure with the possibility of it leading into a full-fledged campaign, and I’m looking for four to six people who are interested in getting in touch with their inner superhero (or villain)… No need to roll stats, pick powers, or anything like that, though… I’ll take care of that ‘behind the scenes’ based on the character concepts I get from those that are potentially interested (kind of the way Olan did with character creation in his Zombies in Chicago game)… So, what do I need from you to get started? Honestly, not too much… If you’re interested, all I need is for you to hit me with a little write up of who your character is/was before he/she got hit with whatever it was that made them “more (or, potentially, less) than human.
Hit me with the character’s name (a regular name, not a ‘superhero/villain’ one… we’ll get to that in game… maybe), age, physical description, occupation (if any), and run me through a ‘day in the life’ of the character and we’ll go from there. Pretty simple, right? Just a few more notes before you run off to get started, though…
- No ‘pre-teen’ characters, please. Most of the games I tend to run tend to lean toward the ‘mature’ side of things and, as such, I’d prefer not to have to do anything ‘vile’ to small children. Keep your character’s age above 16
- Feel free to start your characters anywhere in the known world… Are you a corporate CEO who spends most of his/her time in New York City? Maybe you’re some punk teenager on the streets in London? Could be you’re just a community college student in some random small town in Iowa, some random homeless dude in Dayton, Ohio, or, maybe, you’re a safari guide in Africa somewhere? Doesn’t matter where you start out, really, I’ve got evil plans to get you all together before things get too crazy. *winks*
- A list of your character's skills wouldn't hurt, either... hobbies? After school activities?
- Get creative with your ‘day in the life’ bit… Sure, your Hawaiian surf-bum might not do much but hang out on the beach, smoke a little weed, and surf all day and night, but give me some details, there… Any particular beach? Do you prefer the big waves on the North Shore or are you less extreme and find beaches with tamer swells? Exactly how much weed do you smoke, anyway, and do you get it from one source or do you buy from whoever might be selling? … Might not seem like it matters too much when you’re writing it up but, trust me, every little snippet you send my way will help me to determine not only what powers you get but how you get them…
- Timeframe is very near future… let’s say 2013… Dec 21, 2012 has come and gone with no end of the world as prophesied by the Mayans… Of course, the Mayans didn’t really predict the end of the world, did they? They predicted the end of an “Age”… *winks* … and the dawn of a new one?
I think that covers it for a start-up, anyway. If there are any questions I can answer for you before you start on a concept, just holler at me… either here or via PM… and I’ll get back to you as quick as I can.
Any takers?
Edit: Another quick note, here... this game will most definitely present PvP options depending on how each of your characters reacts to events as they unfold in the game, soooo... something to keep in mind...

Welcome aboard, Sir Sadaar! Glad you've decided to join us, here, in our mad, little pocket dimension! Don't be afraid to dip your toes in the water - or, heck, even just cannonball the jacuzzi - when it comes to gaming hereabouts. I'm sure you'll find that there's something for just about everyone around here and that, in the end, experience doesn't really matter a whole heaping ton... Most of your GMs/fellow Innmates will be more than happy to show you the ropes, help you along, or whatever you wanna call it, if you find you're not exactly 'knowledgeable' in a particular gaming system or whatver... We're a mooshky bunch that way, you know? *wink*

Additionally, for the little butterfly and all other whippersnappers out there, Doug Henning was a pretty well known illusionist/magician back in the days when you all were just twinkles in mommy and daddy's eyes, yes? I remember about 1400 TV specials for this guy...

My pleasure, boss!
Admitting to knowing who Doug Henning is kind of dates us a bit, doesn't it? Or, perhaps that's an illusion, too. *wink*
EDIT: Also... is it just me or do the Doug-stache and Roger-stache look as if they might be related somehow? I mean, Roger's is definitely more imposing and manly but the similarities are somewhat astounding, don'cha think?
((Don't whomp on me, Roger! I were only funnin' ya! Henning's got nothin' on Alacrity!))

Fantastic idea, Almerin! And, might I add, a nifty twist of uniqueness for the "standard fare" hereabouts. So much so, in fact, that I can't help but express my own interest...

Topic: captain america style paladin Subject: Just out of curiosity...
...at what level are these players starting?
Seems to me that, even if such a shield could be made, that it'd be exceedingly rare for it to be wielded by a low level character.
With that in mind and if you're planning on starting them out at lower levels, you might want to go ahead and allow the shield but only let it's "mystical/magical" properties evolve through sparkly role-play... Pali finds the shield, pali finds himself in a combat situation a short time later where all he's got available is said shield and makes the decision to throw the thing, shield flies true and makes that first critical hit (but no rebound/multiple target/return), pali goes "Wow! Cool!", pali practices throwing the shield and improves with time (adding in multiple target capability, return to thrower bit, etc)...
*shrugs*
Just thoughts.

Topic: captain america style paladin Subject: Hmmmm....
...crafting/forging a shield that can be thrown in a manner to be used as a ranged weapon, I think, would be a fairly simple task, really. Basically, you just want to make an extra large metal Frisbee (I'd say that a metal like mithral would be the best choice for such a thing in a D&D setting). Getting it to hit multiple targets and return to the thrower, however, might be a bit of a trick... Those properties of Cap's shield, I believe (and correct me if I'm wrong, here, Cap fans), are derived from the steel/vibranium alloy from which it's fashioned - basically, the shield is thrown, hits the first target and "redirects" itself to the next one by harnessing/redirecting the energy from that initial impact, etc, etc, until, eventually, the absorption/redirection of that energy sends the shield back towards Cap and he catches it.
*shrugs* Without magical enhancements or the introduction of a similar metal/alloy to your campaign, I'm not entirely sure how it could be made to work... Even a mithral shield would likely hit the first target it's thrown at and then... THUNK ... it's done!
I'd say you might want to explore existing enchantments (or create one of your own) that might be applied to the shield to "simulate" the effects you're looking for... Or, simply, let your pali be able to throw the shield but drop the multiple targets and return bit...

Topic: World of Darkness zombie ideas Subject: I think this is a good spot...
...no need to move the thread!
Now, as to making your game scarier (and, if I may refer you to the Zombies in Chicago thread) might I suggest using "fast zombies"? Yes, I know, there are some pretty good arguments out there as to why zombies shouldn't (or even couldn't) be able to run and such but, lemme tell ya, a single, screamin', maggot-farmin', flesh-eater charging you from a dark alleyway is, IMO, a way scarier proposition than a horde of shambling, shuffling corpses that you could easily outrun and pick off from a distance. *nodnodnods*
Also, don't be afraid to let a PC or three get munched on! It's the Zombie Apocalypse fer the luv o' Pete! Not everybody is gonna make it... even those "heroic" types that are typically personified by your players. In fact, before you start, I'd get with your players and have them make back-up/replacement characters to hold in reserve for when/if their initial characters get eaten or infected.
I'm sure there's more that can be done to amp up the factor... very limited starting equipment, someone in the party is already infected, etc... but there's a start, anyway.
Now... speaking of zombies... I think I hear Chicago calling...
Don't I, Olan?
