Stardate 2365.02.19
USS Peregrine; Deck 3 – Corridor – 1155

Leaving the transporter room and the brief but happy reunion with Eric behind, Tochi hurried along the corridor to the turbolift. He had intended to stop by his office en route to the bridge but, given the time and the Peregrine’s scheduled departure from SB-118, he decided better of it… So much to do; so little time in which to get it all done, he sighed inwardly, I’ll be glad to see this place in our wake… He was mentally ticking off the things he had wanted to accomplish before the ship set sail but had yet to actually accomplish when a nearby voice caught his attention.

"Computer, where is Commander Zai?"

Arching a brow, Tochi snapped out of his musing and turned in the direction from which the question had come to find yet another unfamiliar face to be the source; a large, rather wolfish looking man, sporting a gold uniform. Whatever species this one belonged to wasn’t at all common to the Federation and it took him a moment of searching his memories to place it… Ahhhh; a Daa’Vit. That’s right, Odia had some dealings in the Daa’Vit Confederacy, didn’t we?.. Interesting that one of them is serving in Starfleet… “Commander Zai is right here,” he said, addressing the man and forestalling the computer’s response, “What can we do for you?”

"Ah, Commander, sir!" Crisply, Nyle offered a salute. "Lieutenant Nyle, reporting for duty as the Chief Operations Officer."

I frillin’ knew we missed someone!

Snapping a salute in return, Tochi acknowledged Lt Nyle. “At ease, Lieutenant,” he said, letting his hand fall from salute to proffered handshake as he stepped toward the Daa’Vit, “and welcome aboard. We apologize for not having introduced myself sooner. It’s been a hectic day.”

"I just missed you on the bridge, sir. I have already relieved Lt Lasad and reviewed all ongoing operations. As I'm sure you know, sir, all maintenance and repairs are finished pertaining to the systems that Operations Department controls." The report came in a crisp, flat voice. Probably too late, Nyle realized that he hadn't smiled. His deadpan face was not going to give the first impression he wanted; he was excited to be here, after all. As quick as that realization had dawned on him, Nyle forced his face into the position that he had been practicing all day. "It's a pleasure to be aboard, sir."

Tochi wasn’t entirely sure that he hadn’t involuntarily blinked in the face of the Daa’Vit’s ‘smile.’ It wasn’t exactly what one might call horrifying but there was definitely something predatory about it despite Nyle’s intention… a bit like being smiled at by a K’zintiWell, maybe not quite that badIt just wasn’t an expression for which the Daa’Vit face was made. Nevertheless, Tochi returned the grin and nodded at Nyle’s report. “Thank you for the update, Lieutenant,” he said, “Your initiative is appreciated. It’s nice to have you with us.”

"Respectfully, sir," Nyle replied, letting his smile drop off his face. "I came to find you to report in. If I may, I would like to return to the Bridge. I would like to be at the OPS panel for our departure."

“Absolutely, Lieutenant,” the Trill nodded gesturing toward the turbolift, “the Captain wouldn’t have it any other way, we’re sure. I’m on our way back to the bridge, myself.” With that, the XO resumes his path back to the lift with the new Ops Chief at his side…

((OOC: Up to you if you want to continue from there or not, Giddy. There’s probably room for a bit more conversation aboard the lift… and I know Tochi has questions… but, time being what it is, I don’t imagine either of them is ready for anything too in depth. Both are likely focused on getting to their posts. ))

Just one thing, though... Dr Reine may have been on board for a few days, by the time of your post... I'm working with Breebles, now, to get an intro/opening post for the new Doc and, if I'm not mistaken, we have her coming aboard a few days ago.

Apologies for any inconvenience, btw... Always some little continuity things when a new game/chapter starts... especially when new characters and/or players are involved. The post is great, as I said, but maybe put a pin in the Doc's time of arrival.

I was just reading up on the Ebou Dari and I think they're just about perfect! As I was reading, in fact, it occurred to me that, as a people, they almost remind me of the Braavosi from A Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones) series... Then it occurred to me that Martin probably stole the Ebou Dari from Jordan and made them the Braavosi!

Either way, I love the idea of an Ebou Dari smuggler! Already starting to formulate his looks and mannerisms.

P.S. I missed the "wilder" part on Bree's concept... The perils of reading on a tiny phone screen vs a giant monitor, I suppose. Gol-ding old dude eyes, anyway!!!

Subject: Wrapping up the welcome back with Eric

Stardate 2365.02.19
USS Peregrine; Deck 3 – Transporter Room 1 – 1152

“For frill’s sake, they’ll let anybody aboard a Federation ship, these days! I’m expecting Starfleet to send me a Chief Engineer and I get this! What’s next? Tribbles?!?!”

Eric tried and failed to keep the huge grin from his face as he saw Tochi approach the pad. “Well, they had to send someone to make you look smart,” he joked. “It’s a big task, but if we can keep Fleet from finding out you’re an Andorian ice monkey masquerading as an officer, we should be fine. You’re going to have to cut down on the poo flinging, though.” Both men laughed as Eric stepped off the transporter pad and enfolded his friend in a bear hug. “It’s good to see you again, my friend,” Eric said, wiping a genuine tear from his eye.

“It’s good to see you, too, Eric” Tochi smiled as the engineer caught him up in that powerful embrace, “It’s felt more like years as opposed to weeks since we last saw you! Now, put us down before PO Bardan gets the wrong idea!” As his feet met the desk, again, Tochi stepped back and then reached out and clapped a hand on the larger man’s shoulder, and inclined his head faintly to indicate the cybernetic arm attached below it. “Since I’m still able to feel my legs,” he grinned, “We’re guessing they managed to clear up whatever was wrong, there?”

Eric offered a simple nod in reply and deftly turned the subject. “I’ve been keeping up with things as best I can from the news. You and Silas have to be the luckiest bastards I know.” He grinned as he said this and then added seriously, “And all of you pulled off something monumentally great. Well done, Tochi, to everyone. I couldn’t be prouder of you, or prouder to serve with you.”

“I don’t know how great it was,” Tochi shrugged, grinning in reply, “but, yeah, we managed okay despite the proverbial cards being stacked against us from the start.” His expression soured a bit as memories of Jacob’s political maneuverings and subterfuge, and more recent ones of Silas being arrested on the gangway, whispered through his mind. “You missed one s#!t-show of a ride, my friend. You are going to stick with us this time, we hope?”

Eric gave Tochi a warm, friendly clap on the back as they headed for the transporter room door. “Yeah, I am headed straight to Engineering after I report in with the Captain, going to try to get back up to speed in record time. So good of them to tell me to report just when we have to get back on the road. I need to meet this McTavish, make sure he hasn’t broken my engines, find out just what you fiends did to my ship and what new quirks I have to find. Heh.”

“Good,” Tochi grinned, “If we have to review and approve one more damned transfer order from this Starbase, my spots are liable to catch fire.” He chuckled at Eric’s remarks about McTavish having taken care of the engines in his absence but waved a hand to dismiss any of the engineer’s concerns. “McTavish is probably the only good thing we got from our romp with the Coronado,” he admitted, “He’s not you, of course, but the man has had no problem keeping the Peregrine in good order; stepped right up where running the department was concerned, and has made a good addition to our little crew.”

Eric gave Tochi a final handshake as they entered the corridor and parted ways. “We still need a proper reunion, you realize. See if we can get the Captain to join us, have a medicinal sip or three. See you tonight!”

“We wouldn’t miss it if the entire Romulan Empire came across the Neutral Zone, my friend,” he said, clasping Eric’s hand firmly, “and, who knows; if things work out right, we may have someone to introduce you to.

Go ahead and go check in with, Silas,” the Trill smiled, genuinely happy that his friend had returned and appeared to be no worse the wear for whatever had befallen him, “I’m on my way to the Bridge, myself. Just have a quick stop to make on the way. If we don’t see you there, we’ll certainly catch up once we’re under weigh.”

With a fresh spring in his step, Eric readjusted his duffel on his shoulder and headed for the bridge, and Commander Drake’s ready room.

((Just a short one to tie up those particualr loose ends. I'll have Tochi hit the Bridge in my next round.  )

My initial thoughts on the matter would be to take the unused Counselor's office on Deck 4 and make that home for the COO, I think. That said, I'm sure there is plenty of space, elsewhere, for the Ops chief to carve out a niche - I say it's up to you, Giddy. Pick a spot and park it.

Stardate 2365.02.19
USS Peregrine – Deck 4; Shuttlebay 1, Turbolift – 1143

That went well, Tochi smiled to himself, boarding the turbolift and leaving the flight deck behind him, Garner seemed to be quite taken with Megan, if we’re not mistaken, and she with him

The door hissed shut and he called out; “Bridge.” A chirp of acknowledgement issued from the computer and lift started into motion.

…Of course, Megan is taken with everyone, Tochi chuckled, That girl has entirely too much enthusiasm to not spread it around, we suppose. Best of luck on your tour, Mr Garner.

Before he let himself get too far into imagining the green ensign being dragged willy-nilly across the ship by the impish Owen, Tochi glanced at the time where it was displayed on the lift’s console… =/=1143.01.05.0029=/=…  Then, with a nod, tapped his comm-badge; “Zai to OPS.”

=/=OPS,=/= came the almost instantaneous reply, =/=Petty Officer Warren, here; what can I do for you, sir?=/=

“How are we looking on our off-cycle, Mr Warren,” the XO queried.

=/=Maintaining per standard protocol, Commander,=/= Warren replied after a brief pause, =/=ESM at 16.75% and falling. Umbilical interlocks nearing pre-disconnect; securing of airlocks and gantry separation prepped to follow. Navigation and Reaction Control Systems, online. We’re right on schedule, sir.=/=

“Thank you, Petty Officer,” Tochi said, ready to tap his badge and end the communication, “We appreciate the update. Zai, ou…”

=/=Uh… Commander?=/=

The Trill’s fingers stopped and hovered just over the commbadge; “Mister Warren?”

=/=This doesn’t really have anything to do with launch prep,=/= the OPS NCO said, =/=but I’m looking at a transporter request, here, that you just might be interested in…=/=

Transporter request? Who or what would we be transporting aboard, now? Tochi arched a brow, a contemplative expression painting his features as he scoured his mind for the answer to that question... Am I forgetting something? …As far as he was aware, all stocks and stores had been replenished, and all crew transfers should have been accomplished by now. He might not have personally greeted all of the new arrivals, as yet, but certainly they were all aboard… Well except for… Oh... OH!.. The puzzled look morphed into a knowing smile. “Is that right?” he asked.

=/=Yes, sir=/= Warren answered, his own grin obvious in his tone, =/=Commander Thorson’s scheduled to beam over in just about four minutes. Transporter Room One. Thought you’d wanna know, sir.=/=

“I appreciate that, Travis,” Zai said, “Thank you.”

=/=You got it, sir. OPS out.=/=

“Stop,” Tochi commanded, noticing that the lift had already taken him as far as Deck 2. “Deck Three,” he said, re-directing the lift. He couldn’t let Eric come back aboard the Peregrine with nobody but the transporter tech waiting to greet him… There’d be no fun in that, at all.

USS Peregrine – Deck 3; Transporter Room 1 – 11:51

Standing beside the transporter console, Tochi watched as PO Bardan’s webbed fingers cycled the patter-buffer, adjusted narrow-beam harmonics in the overflow coils, and then cued up the next list of in-coming requests. “One Lt Commander Thorson,” the Zaldan transporter tech read dutifully from the queue, “requesting permission to come aboard from Starbase 118.”

“Permission granted,” Tochi said, stepping away from the console, now, and into the space between it and the transporter, “Energize.”

As Bardan’s hand dragged lightly over the controls, the air thrummed and the transporter pad lit up with a stream of ethereal particles. When those particles coalesced into Eric and the big engineer blinked in reaction his eyes suddenly registering new surroundings, Tochi did his best to paint a look of disappointment on his face. “For frill’s sake,” Zai groused, throwing his hands in the air in mock-irritation, “They’ll let anybody aboard a Federation ship, these days! I’m expecting Starfleet to send me a Chief Engineer and I get this! What’s next? Tribbles?!?!”

((OOC: Run with that as you will, Dunklezahn! Tochi's in a bit of a hurry, of course, so there's no real time for a game of let's catch up, but he wasn't about to wait until after the ship had set sail to welcome his friend back.))
