Topic: Voyages of Rocinante - Serenity/Firefly RPG
Subject: Fantastic!!! I hate this gorram planet!

With as much patience and calm as he could muster given recent events, Dash spent the time waiting for Pearson to return with his gear by scanning the surrounding area with a distrusting eye and listening in on the jaw-jacking that went on between Deputy Ken and the rest of the folk gathered around the hovermule. He didn’t really participate in the conversation too much, himself, other than the occasional wisecrack or off-color remark when his attentions weren’t overly occupied with their almost perpetual sweep of the Green and the bits of Newhouse that surrounded it. Sam had no lack of anxiousness to get off this rock and back into the Sky – it didn’t even matter that, with the sun shining on the Green the way it was, that Beylix did have it’s pretty moments – the only thing that had ever gone right for him on this scrap yard planet had been meeting Wyatt Sung and landing a spot behind Rocinante’s yoke. Aside from that, it seemed, Beylix seemed to hold a powerful dislike for Sam and he wasn’t exactly keen on sticking around and provoking her any longer than necessary…

‘Bout time, the pilot thought when, after twenty minutes or so, Luke Pearson came jandering back with his gear.

“Here you go, Ken,” Luke said, flipping his badge to the young Deputy, “Take care of the sheriff for me.”

“Sure thing, Luke,” the lawman with the cheerful disposition answered, pocketing the badge, “Good luck out there.”

“Luck’s got nothing to do with it, Ken” Frisco’s new Sheriff quipped, loading his bags onto the mule as Sam slid out of the way around the side of the craft.

“Pssh,” the pilot snorted through a crooked grin, “don’ let the Cap here ya say that, Pearson. I reckon he’d debate ya on …”

Suddenly, a woman’s terrified scream ripped the air causing Sam to flinch a bit and hesitate in his steps as his gaze skittered in the direction of the noise.

“Aw hell.” Ken says, “That’s Darla again.”

“You gonna check it out?” Luke asks.

“Nah. Sheriff said to escort you all out. I’d better …”

BLAMMM!

“Wu de mah,” Sam smirked as the sound of the shotgun blast urged his hand instinctively to the iron at his hip, “Another beautiful ruttin’ day in S#!*town, huh?”

“Gorram it! That was a shotgun.” Ken starts to takes off in a sprint in the same direction the sheriff had headed and then stops and looks back, ‘Ummm, Luke, you know what to do. Nice meeting you all!” and then he disappears down the street and into a back alley.

“Well then Captain. Shall we?” Luke asks.

“Yeah,” Sam nodded, stepping aside a bit to allow their passengers to climb aboard the mule, “I’m wit’ th’ lawman, Cap. Th’ quicker we’re gone th’ better, get me?

C’mon, gents,” he urged, ushering the Frisco group onto the mule, “Let’s get some pi guhs in some seats; time is mon…”

“Stop! Thief! Someone stop him!”

Dash’s head swiveled in the direction of the latest disruption and framed what might have been an almost comical chase scene in his vision – one guy running like hell away from the Mining Guild offices with a strong box clutched in his hands and two other fellas as thought to give chase to the first one all jammed up in the doorway of the Guild as a result of their hurryin’… Almost comical… except that it took Dash about as long to realize that the guy running away with the strongbox was Chad Sloat as it did for Pearson to jump off the mule with his pistol ready and commence to chasing the guy down.

“Ai ya,” Sam growled, “Wo bu shin wo dah yan jing! Cap! It's lookin' as if we got us a bit of a clusterfu** about ta commence… Ain’t that Sloat?”

"What do girls like guys giving them the most?"

I'm not a girl or anything but I'm going to bet that "respect" is going to be at the top of that list.

Temptations; sing!

Ooh-ooh-oh-ooh-oh-ooh-
Ooh-ooh-oh-ooh-
Ooh, yeah, baby
Whoa-whoa-oh-oh-
Mmm-

Now I-m the kinda guy who don't believe
That chivalry is dead, no
'Cause I believe a woman should be treated
With the utmost respect, mmm-hmm-

Don't be afraid, don't turn and walk away
I wanna get to know ya, well
Don't be ashamed, don't say that love's to blame
Just come and look me over

[You'll find a heart]
You'll find a heart that you've always been lookin' for
How could anybody ask for much more, woo-hoo-

Now I like openin' doors
Pickin' up [Yeah] her hanky [Yeah] off the floor
Treat her like a lady [Treat her like lady]
Light her cigarette if she smokes
Even [Help her with her coat], well
Treat her like a lady [Treat her like lady]

In this world of liberation
It's so easy to forget, mmm-
That it's so nice to have a man around
To lend a helping hand, you can bet, bet you can, baby

When I was young, my mama used to say, Boy
A woman's like a flower, with love on her you shower
Ever since that day, her words never went away
I always will remember to treat my baby tender

[You'll find a heart]
You'll find a heart that you've always been lookin' for
How could anybody ask for much more, whoa-ooh-ooh-

Now I like openin' doors
Pickin' up [Yeah] her hanky [Yeah] off the floor
Treat her like a lady [Treat her like lady]
Light her cigarette if she smokes
Even [Help her with her coat], oh, whoa
Treat her like a lady [Treat her like lady]

Compliment her in her hair
Even help her with her chair
Treat her like a lady [Treat her like lady]
She's a bad son-of-a-gun
I'm her lovin' Don Juan
Treat her like a lady [Treat her like lady]

Ooh-hoo-hoo-hoo-hoo-ooh-
Whoa-oh-oh-
Hey-hey-
Whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh-baby
Every day, ever way
Hey, hey
Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey

[You'll find a heart]
You'll find a heart that you've always been lookin' for
How could anybody ask for much more, whoa-whoa-oh-ooh-

Now I like openin' doors
Pickin' up [Yeah] her hanky [Yeah] off the floor
Treat her like a lady [Treat her like lady]
Light her cigarette if she smokes
Even [Help her with her coat], help her out
Treat her like a lady [Treat her like lady]

Compliment her in her hair
Even help her with her chair
Treat her like a lady [Treat her like lady]
Now boy, you should remember
To be a gentleman
Treat her like a lady

(You better) Treat her like (Well), treat her like (Ho)
Treat her like a lady (Treat her like a lady)
Treat her like, treat her like (Hey-ey-)
Treat her like a lady (Treat her like a lady)

Treat her like (Well), treat her like
Treat her like a lady (Treat her like a lady)
Treat her like, treat her like (Ooh-hoo-)
Treat her like a lady (Hoo-hoo-oh, my, my, treat her like a lady)

“Don’t worry yourself about payment Dapple.” Kilgim spoke up, “My cousin Dwan will make sure we are well compensated for our efforts if on nothing but my say so.”

Since Arien had so readily accepted the Council’s proposal (despite the misgivings that Dapple lofted verbally and those that were more subtly emoted by others) Caicher had been practically beaming. With the party’s agreement to undertake the Council’s ‘quest’ came not only the opportunity for adventure – which the bard had found himself wanting more and more the past weeks – but, also, if things went well, the chance to learn more about the Heroes of Freegate firsthand and, as such, the opportunity to immortalize their deeds in song and story…

There are the beginnings of more than one, already, he thought, doffing his hat long enough to push a loose spill of braids behind one subtly pointed ear, his mirthful gaze dancing from one face to the next, and they have been here only moments. There is a veritable symphony written in their faces!

…The hat was sat back in place at a jaunty angle, then, and, reaching for his fiddle as the music in his mind’s ear began to demand accompaniment, Caicher realized that, just as his hunger to play was growing so, too, was a sudden craving for spicy sausages beginning to pang his stomach. Curious, he mused as his fingers curled around his beloved fiddle, I can’t recall ever having craved sausages of any kind before…Why would I suddenly…

“Well good to have you here to help then. How about some lunch then? Can you join us for lunch or do you want to leave as soon as possible? I know that I have a remarkable craving for spicy sausage.”

“Ah yes,” Flynn chuckled, realizing what the sudden appetite was about, “the little dragon. I had nearly forgotten…” He turned, nestling his fiddle under his chin, and caught sight of the little pseudo-dragon that the legend and lore of the Freegate Heroes mentioned from time to time. At first, when the dragonette launched itself from Dapple Moon’s shoulder to Char’s, Caicher accompanied the creature’s awkward flight with an inspired dancing of bow upon strings. Before the pseudo-dragon could take flight again, though, the bard became aware (mostly due to the party’s reactions) that these antics weren’t typical for Sunset…

“Is there something wrong with your familiar?” Relg asked.

…The last notes of Caicher’s abandoned tune dissipated on the air even as Char and Maximus began to move from their places; the bow was relegated to the same hand as his fiddle, and the hand freed by the action now rested at the ready on the hilt of his scimitar. “What troubles you, little one,” Flynn, speaking in the tongue of the gypsies, cooed softly to the little creature… ((OOC: Animal Rapport as appropriate, please, to either help soothe or, as with Char, better understand Sunset’s actions/anxiety.))

And, as far as the *shrug*, goes... I sometimes say "shrug" when I shrug just to be sure that people know I'm shrugging as opposed to twitching out...

I'll have a post for the bard ASAP... most definitely before I go on vacation at the end of this week. As I noted in the Rocinante Q/A, I'll be out of pocket from the 10th to the 19th or 20th... NPC Flynn as needed, of course... just don't let him die until I get back... *bats eyelashes at the DM*... pweeeeeeeeeeeeez?

I'm working on that, actually... you didn't think I'd go an' leave th' best ruttin' crew in the Verse in a lurch, did ya?... problem is that the individual pages are quite a bit larger than my scanner, which means I'll have to shuffle, shift, and stitch a bit to get nice little "share mes".

Also... very excited for the next update, with luck I'll even manage a post of my own before week's end... and that brings me to my last bit... I'll be heading for the boondocks at the end of the week and, as usual, will likely have limited or no access to the internet until I get home on the 19th or 20th. Feel free to NPC Sam in my absence if necessary (I trust you all to not get him shot until I get back )...

Very nice, YeOlde... Since you've taken the lead, here, and posted that lovely piece, I'd like to offer up one that has also helped me through more than one loss.

Do Not Stand At My Grave and Weep (Mary E. Frye)

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am in a thousand winds that blow,
I am the softly falling snow.
I am the gentle showers of rain,
I am the fields of ripening grain.
I am in the morning hush,
I am in the graceful rush
Of beautiful birds in circling flight,
I am the starshine of the night.
I am in the flowers that bloom,
I am in a quiet room.
I am in the birds that sing,
I am in each lovely thing.
Do not stand at my grave and cry,
I am not there. I do not die.

I've always said that the only really real difference between our mods and our Innmates is that we mods get purple name tags... oh... and phenomenal cosmic powers!

Kinda like that, you know?

Anyhoo, O' monk-type-dude, Na'Li'Kui, welcome to the happiest little pocket dimension on the web and, as others have already pointed out, if you need anything just give a shout and someone will come skidding around the corner, flying through the air with their tongue hangin' out and... er... I mean, one of our staff or our super-tasty Innmates will certainly be more than happy to help you out.

P.S. Boss, you forgot that there was 6 feet of snow on that hill... and that the dinosaurs were so sluggish in cold weather that it was much faster for us to walk... we were out of school by the time woolly mammoths came around...

...as Dak said, Accalia, you're definitely in the right place to maybe kick up a nugget of inspiration or two. Hang around and browse, jump in a game or two... heck, start up a game or two... and before too awful long, I'm sure, you'll find that you've got more than a pocketful of sparkly nuggets of inspiration and imagination...

As to the embarrassment/nervousness/confidence thing; don't let it get to you and don't ever feel like you're being judged by anyone hereabouts. Like you said, yourself, you're young and "new" and looking for a firm path to put your feet on, yeah? Everyone starts somewhere, little miss and I'm pretty sure that everyone, in their beginnings, had similar thoughts and concerns ("Geez! That sucks!" or "Crap! Why can't I get this to come out right? I'm such a loser!") The thing is, whether we started years and years ago or just yesterday, I'm sure we can all look back at those first steps we took towards writing, drawing, storytelling, or whatever and say "Wow! I've come a loooooong way since then, haven't I? And, you know, even though I thought that story (picture, whatever) kind of sucked, then, I can look at it now and see how it grew from that rather lackluster little seed into this WORLD SHAKING EPIC TRIUMPH that I've got going, now!"

Point being - Each footstep is a beginning and an end; there is no path, only the journeying.

Keep on keeping on, little lady, and, if you need help or inspiration, just give a shout... one of our fabulous Innmates will always come running to offer insight and encouragement... I can practically guarantee it.

P.S. Moved this one to the general forum as it seems to fit better there.
