Oh geez.... that means I have to remember which passport I usually use to get into Canada... and I'll need to take a refresher language course (unless Rosetta Stone has a "Canadian" version...)... and do math... and bake Grugg a lasagna...

How much would it cost to mail an Eol, I wonder?

Somewhere where they can forget

Divine upper reaches
Still holding on

Don't get excited... I already hunted Mark down and gave him his facelickinz in another thread so, strange as it may sound, the fella gets somewhat of a reprieve here in his intro.

Did want to pop in and give you the ol' "Well met, howdyado, pleezdameetcha" bit, though, Mark. Always a pleasure to have new faces show up here at the Inn... especially when they stick around, y'know?

“…you can’t do this, Nyx. It isn’t fair,” she grimaced only after silenty listening to all of what he had said; “Don’t you dare do this to me!”

Again, she seemed to have misunderstood his intent… taken the things he had offered as a way out… taken his acknowledgement of his promises to her as having thrown them in her face… become irritated and uncertain where he had only intended to soothe and reassure…

Do what? Nyx’s brow knit in confusion for an instant but the smile that had graced his lips before he kissed her didn’t fade, straight away… The mith’ganni had come, recently, to almost expect these unexpected reactions from the Wharf Witch, after all, and, while his first instinct, now, was to interject he imagined it would be best to let her continue uninterrupted. I have learned more about you by simply letting you talk than I ever have from asking, yes, melamin, he mused, staying his tongue and allowing Cay her say as she had allowed him his.

“I have no answers for you Nyx.” She spoke with her whole body, her hands flying to her sides with the palms up to emphasize that she had nothing to offer him. “I’m not even sure I understand what your questions are in order to give you an answer. Seek your stars, they are constant and bright. I am anything but…”

The assassin’s eyes flashed and his smile warmed; the change in the expression hinting at his disagreement as those words evoked images from his recent dream and the translation of that dream he’d received from Taellyn afterwards… You are my answer, Cayrimsa, he might have retorted had he allowed himself to speak just then, You are my star. A star far brighter and far more constant in my eyes than any others I have seen…

“…stop looking to me for answers,” she demanded, her voice risng still higher, “and stop giving me bulls#!t for yours!

Don’t tell me that Olsta is just the beginning,” Cay added, then, “We both know better. You pressing your back against mine and telling Dmitrova that he’d have to fight us both if he laid a hand on me might be a more poignant beginning, or perhaps it goes back further…”

A faint nod from Nyx acknowledged that truth… Quite a bit further… but, still, he held his tongue and kept his gaze even with hers.

“…to Gracchus, or even further, to the first time I felt a pair of unseen eyes watch me from the shadows…”

Perhaps further, even, than that, elen en cormamin.

“… Olsta is simply another step. Which is why, you know, I cannot just walk away…”

Again, there was an injection of warmth into the mith’ganni’s smile at her admission that they had come too far, already, for her to simply be able to walk away from it all, now. It was bittersweet warmth, though, because, beneath the surface of it he thought he could sense the beginnings of regret in the decisions she had made to get them here… and the bitter began to outway the sweet, finally causing the smile on Nyx’s lips to diminish as he considered the words she spoke next…. Barbs of truth regarding promises and crossed paths, and the allusions to forces at work which, if not fully beyond their comprehension, were, at least, at the farthest reaches.

“… take another look at your back, Nyx, and try to deny it. There are powers, much greater than Senators or Syndicate overlords, at work here that I don’t fully understand…”

As soon as she hand mentioned it, Nyx felt the tree etched on his back react, as if it were coaxed into further growth by her voice… She was right, of course. He couldn’t have denied anything she said even if he had wanted to.

And to be honest Nyx, that scares me. Don’t give me an out…” the amber fires to her soul dropped then, and his own eyes followed as she made her next confession, “I’m terrified enough right now that I might take it. But maybe you are right. Maybe I’m not sure about… about…”

Somewhere on the darkened fringes of his subconscious an ancient, ethereal voice spat out a gale of derisive laughter in hopes of invoking further doubt… but that gale was torn apart amidst the crimson branches that wove into Nyx’s mind and rendered it into little more than a whispered breeze that scarcely registered in his mind’s ear. Had it not, Nyx very well may not have been able to steel himself against what he feared she might say next… he wasn’t sure he even truly wanted to hear what it might be. It was far too late for him to second guess any of this and, for the flickering of a moment, he found himself ready to do just that… found himself trying to fathom how he could undo all that which had already been done and trying to find the words he would reply with when she had finished this most recent divulgence…

To his surprise, though, Cay never did finish the statement aloud… not with words, at any rate… Instead, as both sets of their downturned eyes contemplated the narrow span of nothingness between them, a somewhat sickened moan churned in Cay’s throat and, at the same time, the dagger he had given her hissed from its scabbard and, in her hand, interposed itself between them.

“Just… just take this back please… I wasn’t thinking last night; you’re the killer, Nyx, not me…”

Beneath the slender, black brows which had, once again, knitted together in a momentary confusion, the mith’ganni’s moon-colored eyes considered the dagger and, more, the hand which offered it back to him. The fingers that curled around the weapon’s ebon blade looked deceptively delicate given the power that they could command with little more than the sketching of an arcane symbol in the air (or, for that matter, a simple touch against his skin). There was fresh blood (evoked from the flesh by a grip more accustomed to the pain inflicted by a blade than with its handling) that seeped from somewhere beneath those fingers, he noted, and oozed along the razor’s edge to its point. There, it hesitated a moment, gathering into droplet that, when of sufficient size, fell silently to the floor painted a tiny rose petal on the stone. That first petal was as scarlet as the cloak she typically wore… the same red hue, he noticed, that Cay had professed to hate when they had last visited the Dreamweaver together… The red of the Arigainar… The second petal had not yet stroked across the cold stone of the floor when Nyx blinked and lifted his gaze in search of hers, once again.

“…It’s not mine… but please… please Nyx… you are…” she asked, the same plea in her tone as in her eyes when they lifted to meet his, “or you said you were… don’t tell me I can leave… tell me to go with you. I’m more afraid of losing you than anything…”

There was nothing sharp or cold in the smile that returned to Nyx’s lips, then… it was as soft as the touch of his fingers when they found hers and gently loosed them from around the blade… and as warm as her blood on his skin when he secured the dagger with one hand and entwined the fingers of the other with hers. “I am afraid, too,” he whispered past that smile as, lifting her bleeding hand to his lips, he drew her closer. “I fear that you are cursed,” he continued, touching his lips to a thin rivulet of blood that snaked over her knuckles, “for you can never lose me, elen en cormamin…”

His tongue flickered over his lips, sweeping the blood from them before they brushed over her’s. “You cannot leave,” he breathed during a pause in that elegant kiss, “Come with me, Cay…” The ruby-pommeled dagger whispered back into the sheathe at her hip, then, and, freed of it’s handling, Nyx’s other hand snaked around to the small of the witch’s back and pulled her into a tender embrace, “…but you keep the blade, yes? If you are to be cursed with me, you’ll likely need it… sometimes a blade is quicker than even a spell, hm?”

He wanted to linger in that moment, of course… wanted to let it take them back to the place and time where nothing in the worlds around them mattered but the fact that they were there together. As much as he wanted it, though, he didn’t let himself succumb to those wants. Not now. He couldn’t; for, if he hoped to have any of those moments in the future, his attentions had to be on the now…

There is work to be done and preparations to be made.

A purr (or was it a growl?) rumbled in his chest at that and his arms tightened subtly around her for an instant before he reluctantly released her from the embrace. His lips brushed the scarred tip of an ear and the warmth of a flushed cheek as they parted and, at last, his eyes lingering on hers, he took hold of her injured hand and let her gaze go only long enough to inspect the wound. “We tend to this,” he said, inclining his head towards her upturned palm, “properly, this time, yes? And then, we must go…”

Subject: It is today!!! Will miracles never cease?

Sam’s gut had been twisting since before they’d dusted off from Beylix.

No surprise there.

The tussle in the bar had gone some way to getting his head on straight and allowing him to see the events of the past weeks with a bit more clarity, of course, but, as was the way of the perpetually twitchy, there was always that nagging heaviness in the pit of his stomach that served as a constant reminder that someone, somewhere was out to see him done in and somehow, someday, when he was fool enough to let his guard down a mite too far, they was gonna manage to do it…

The passenger manifest Roc had of late didn’t make his paranoia sit any easier, either. On those rare occasions in the time he’d been driving her that Rocinante had taken on travelers of even the garden variety, Sam had the tendency to be skittish at best; gruff and crude, at worst. This latest batch, to Sam’s way of thinking, included what amounted to little more than an assemblage of lying, conniving politicians (and, with the inclusion of Luke Pearson, murderous, trigger-happy goons) and, in his experience, those were the type of folk one was best advised to steer clear of… being as they’d be the sort most inclined to sell a person’s life right out from under ‘em if the price was right and the palms were greased proper…So, given those perceptions and the fact that none of them had been anywhere near disproved in the weeks between Regina and Beylix, Dash had gotten himself on the tetchy side of twitchy by the time they hot-dropped one of the shuttles, loaded with the Frisco suits and their newly bought, murderin’, wong bah duhn of a lawman, in orbit of Regina and broke off to make the back-run to the Lullabelle Mine.

The pilot’s caginess had throttled back a little since that drop off…

Nothin’ but crew left on board… outsiders outside where they belong… ‘cept fer Andy… don’t figger he’s much an outsider, though, bein’ kin ta Wyatt an’ sech… an’ th’ way him an th’ Cap’re chewin’ th’ fat, I reckon, he’ll be sailin’ wit’ us a spell…

…and he’d even started to get back to bein’ almost respectable company, again; spending less time holed up on the bridge and in his bunk, and more time roaming the ship and interacting with the rest with a more noticeable (if not completely appropriate) civility. By the time Roc was two days out from the mine, Sam had distracted himself enough by imagining the fresh produce that Hawkes, Ryan, and, now, Kora, would likely have available when they roped themselves to the comet that he even seemed to be creeping up on chipper and the twitchiness had ebbed into the background of his personality, again… until, less than a full day out, the engine popped and suddenly left Rocinante adrift in the Black… When that had happened, Sam virtually came unhinged…

*Pop*

“No, no, no! Juh shi suh mo go dohng shee,” he’d exclaimed, first trying to finesse and, then, manhandle some kind of response from the controls. “Aw, gorramit! Ya gotta ruttin’ be strokin’ me,” the tirade continued when none of his efforts proved fruitful and he’d resorted to pounding, kicking, and growling at the yoke and various consoles that surrounded him, “C’mon ya dirty go neong yung duh, lio coh jwei ji neong hur ho deh yung duh buhn jah j’wohn, ta mah de…

“Someone mind tellin’ me what’s goin’ on?” Wyatt’s voice slipped in through Dash’s tirade…

Wuo mun duh cao, is what, Cap,” Sam snarled in reply, giving his seat one final kick before abandoning the futile attempts at getting the ship to respond and storming off the bridge, “We’re seriously, ruttin’ humped!!!”

…Twitchy didn’t come trickling back, then, it came crashing back like a tidal wave. It didn’t make any sense for Roc to have shut down the way she had… anything that would’ve caused these kind of problems would have - should have - been picked up while they were docked at Newhouse… and, even if them guild goons had missed something, the way Wolf had taken to hovering over the mechanicals since he’d come aboard to replace Kora left no doubt in Sam’s mistrusting mind that the only thing that could’ve caused all of this was sabotage… he’d felt it even before Wolf and Bowman had gone out to repair the damages … before the suspicious outgoing transmission he had just tried unsuccessfully to jam… and before Andrew had come back inside with the device of their undoing with the red-lipstick-signature on it…

“Here is what we found… nasty device designed to kill us in about 8 days after dustoff” Bowman lifted the scrapper’s gel pack carefully and turned it over showing the lipstick mark, “whomever it was couldn’t resist leaving their calling card.”

Wyatt tilted his head to the right side just a bit as he digested the lipstick mark and the explosive.

For his part, Sam hung his head and shook it slowly… almost shamefully… Gu wo jwo lu, he scowled internally, feeling about an inch tall when he saw it, Ain’t no mistaken them lips, is there? Let yer little head outthink yer big one, din’cha Sammy? Ya dumb sumbitch!

“Everyone to the bridge, pronto,” Wyatt said into the com as Sam growled something profane under his breath and set back to trying to track the suspicious transmission.

“I don’t think we've got pending visitation no more,” the Cap continued, evoking a short but angry nod from Sam in response, “Seems to me that we was expected to blow, and I'd be willing to bet good credit to gold that the outgoing message we just witnessed was a notification to our saboteur that their little device had been discovered. All the same, keep an eye on the sensors.”

“You got it, Cap. A-holes an’ eyeballs it is, puhn yoh.”

Once everyone arrived, Wyatt very carefully revealed the lipstick to the lot of them.

“This is trouble with a capital T,” he said, scanning the crew with a level eye. “The evidence points to Bridgette in my mind, and that puts Asher at risk. Sam's still checkin' but I believe that a message was sent out by way of a warnin' lettin' our little school marm know her explosives had been disarmed.

If my suspicions are correct, then we need to be prepared for more shenanigans comin' from all angles. Everyone goes armed from this point on. Let's get Rocinante on the move again. I don't take kindly to being set to explodin' and want to get back to Frisco as quick as possible so as I can address this situation proper.

I aim to make trouble now.”

“We’ll get on finishing those repairs,” Bowman said as he glanced at Wolf as he turned to leave, “have things in order shortly Captain.”

Sam nodded again, turning his eyes from the sensors and other instrumentation he’d been monitoring to sweep over Bowman, Wolf and the rest before meeting Wyatt’s gaze… The pilot’s gut told him to run, of course; that this whole situation stunk to high heaven of a conspiracy that he’d be best off just removing himself from all together and, a couple of years ago, Dash might’ve been inclined to do just that very thing. Now, though, Dash wouldn’t be the only one to be affected by a decision to high-tail it out of the frying pan before he fell into the fire… No, he had friends now… family… and the Kid was still suckin’ dirt on Regina; in the fire already… Running wasn’t gonna help none of them, was it? “Trouble ain’t gonna be the half of it, Wyungsung,” he smirked, “a whole lot o’ folk just went an’ gave me a case of th’ I don’ give a s#!ts…

You boys just holler when this girl’s up to runnin’, Wolfy,” he called after Fenris and Bowman, “and we’ll see if’n we can’t set us a gorram speed record gettin’ back to Frisco…”

((OOC: Okay, again, not my best work by far but at least I finally got something posted… Sam, of course, will do whatever he can to help get the boat back in shape but, as I’m reading these last posts, he’d likely be best served monitoring the sensors and the comm. and, probably, trying to figure out a way to cut travel time off the return trip to Frisco and figuring out some sneaky dekey ways about getting Roc around the blockade and planetside on Regina without landing in the arms of a none-too-friendly welcome wagon…))

Rock n' Roll music gonna play all night,
Come on baby it won't take long,
Only take a minute just to sing my song.

Listen!
Ah! Oh!

Gonna have a good time tonight,
Rock n' Roll music gonna play all night,
Come on baby it won't take long,
Only take a minute just to sing my song.

Come on and have a good time tonight,
Rock n' Roll music gonna play all night,
Come on baby it won't take long,
Only take a minute just to sing my song.

Hey, listen!
WAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

Gonna have a good time tonight,
Rock n' Roll music gonna play all night,
Come on baby it won't take long,
Only take a minute just to sing my song

Song, yeah.
Everybody shake.

Happy Birthday, Meri-luv!

Hope it's as fantabulous as you are.

E.

...I thought that guy, rowing on the other side of the ship RL Sucketh, looked familiar.

Been right there with ya, boss... I think Roger is apt to kill me if I don't post to Roc soon...

Good to see you're still out there, regardless.

Welcome aboard, Imperial Fire!

The easiest way to find your way into an RP is to cruise the Recruitment Forums... Most folks that are looking for players (or players looking for game, even) will drop a post or several there. Our dear Flirty (cdnflirt) has just recently fired up a new game, in fact... Check out "Animal Safari" in the recruitment threads, take a peek at "Safari Zone" in the Rules Based forum, and get a look at the "Safari Zone Q&A" thread she's posted in the QA forums... If it looks like something that interests you, post in the recruitment to express your interest or send cdnflirt a PM (she's a sweetheart, don't be skeered).

As far as fixing stats and such, that all depends on the character(s) you may take on in any of the games you may join, I suppose... but, hey, if there's anything specific I can assist with, just let me know... I do more around here than just moisten faces...

Good to have you, lexaust... you can use that towel, now.

As all these other fine Innmates have already said, I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay with us (and, if you're like most, you'll become "one of the family" before you even realize it... I mean, heck, Celeste's only been here a few days or so and the girl is active, active, active. I'm already following her hither and yon just to read her posts and everything...) so... *raises a rum bottle* ... To new friends, indeed.

Tenna'telwan,
Eol
