As the clean up of the battle site and the foraging for anything of any use began Maximus did his part in silence. His anger gone all that was left was the pain of loss, the loss of what up to this point had been his best friend.

Not just a best friend, my first friend Maximus thought to himself very sarcastically. The Ex-gladiator had longed for release from the pits so that he could be his own man and have friends but if the friends he was to make died was a life free from the arena really that much different?.

For now he would help the others as best as he could, help them reach Freegate safely. After that maybe a life in the pits as a free fighter was not so bad of an idea less friends that way.

OOC: Yeah I know short post not really much for Maximus to do right now but morn Jal.

Wilderness – Northeast of Night City – March, Friday 13th, 2020, 6:30pm

As Croaker and Firewind wiled away the hours cleaning and arming the weapons Bull Eye made periodic sweeps from the back to the front, and back again during one of these sweeps Croaker addressed his tribesman.

“Bulls Eye how many rounds you have left for your Comanche?”

“About forty, or fifty.”

“Ok here” Croaker said to the other Nomad handing him the Constitution. ”Shotgun’s all yours then. Firewind is this the only hardware you’re carrying or do you have other weapons on you?”

“Uh, yeah. It’s the only thing I pack,” Keahi cocked his head to the side and raised an eyebrow. “You try packing around all the medical gear I carry and see if you want to add a couple of additional kilos.”

“Ok then better the Doctor then a fighter. We get into the s*** keep your head down and keep us patched up and alive.”

“You can count on it,” Firewind said in a tone that was meant to instill confidence.

The interior of the RV fell silent for some time after that. Croaker had moved back to the shotgun position once they’d finished up while Bull’s Eye remained at the rear. Around when the pale green LED display of the clock radio mounted to the underside of the kitchen cabinet flashed 10:45pm, Bull’s Eye swore.

“We got company,” he said, rolling from the bed and rushing towards the front, barely managing to avoid stepping on Firewind’s outstretched legs in the process. “There’s headlights coming down the road!”

Croaker at once was up and on red alert if Bull’s Eye was the one seeing the headlights that meant that they were coming from the road leading to the Biotechnica facility, not the city.

“Bulls Eye will those headlights tag us as they pass??

As the rest of the crew rushed into the bank to rescue Sam, Fenris sat back into the driver’s seat, glad to be able to just relax the pain of his wound helping to keep him awake despite the blood loss. Without warning a vision of the Rocinante with a new coat of paint and ultra turbo charged engines played through his head.

Before he knew it just as it seemed he had fallen asleep he was brought back to the here and now by Doc McGuire’s probing of the wound as he went to work.

“Now there, Wolf isn’t it? No need for you to give me the next of kin, young man, we’ll have you right as rain in no time. You might think there’s a lot of blood here, but you got plenty more. Nice driving by the docks, by the way.”

Wolf could not help but sniff the Doc’s breath as he spoke and was able to relax knowing the Doc had not been boozing it up before the fight.

“Thanks Doc, was no sweat really” Then as if a switch was thrown a crowd quickly gathered and Wyatt was back by the mule.

“You an’ me,” Wyatt tossed his hat into the mule. “We’re singin’ the same song. Wolf, can you get that mule goin’ again? Will the brakes work, or is it a useless effort?”

The Captain’s question surging the mechanic’s adrenaline level he came to as full awreness as he was gonna get.

“Not a problem Cap’n the brakes will hold together till we reach the ship.” Patting the console before him Fenris spoke to the mule in a low voice. “Hear me baby hold together.”

Looking up he again addressed Wyatt

“So we moving then Cap‘n, how’s Sam??”

Wake me up inside, wake me up inside, call my name and save me from the dark, bid my blood to run before I come undone, save me from the nothing i've become.

The group having decided for the most part to stand and fight Malius made ready but was told to hold his fire as to keep the ruse of a mighty Khord force alive. Having sent Podo and Codo into hiding to keep them safe once it came down to melee all Malius could do was watch the others hurl spells and rocks onto the goblins below. For a time it seemed that the odds were in the groups favor but as everything in battle the odds can change with a blink of an eye.

Deciding he needed a better notion of what was happening the Sylvari Ranger was just about to use his spell of the day to summon a good sized Eagle when the blink of the eye happened and a Wyvern riding Goblin appeared. Having no warning before its first attack Malius was unable to stop it as it speared its tail into Alyssia's body. Moving quickly, as the Wyvern arose to hover, The Sylvari Ranger attempted to close the gap and fire his arrows point blank into the Wyverns skull. Hopefully with help from the others they could quickly turn the odds back into the groups favor...........

(OOC: Ok a lot of assumption here, if I am unable to close the gap as I do not know how close I am to begin with I will instead stand where I am and using the time following the Wyvern’s attack against Alyssia and it moving to hover to aim carefully and call shot a pair of arrows into its brain through an eye, whichever of which is closet to me. As I am 6th LvL I think you told me Al before I took my AOL that I now get 2 shots with a bow but am not sure.

After that my next action is to Summon as posted an Eagle ally to help fight, attacking the Goblin rider from behind as I am able to have it appear where I want it too.)

Subject: Dark Knight is Extremely Dark

Ok there have been many movies about Batman both Live Action and Comic with the Comic’s coming the closet so far to what I think Bob Kane envisioned when he first created Batman back in 1939. But I have to say, as far as I am concerned here and now, none of them captures the true essence of Batman as does "The Dark Knight". Jesus the movie was dark and I mean dark with a capital D. Heath Ledger, Oscar nomination or not, is hands down the best Joker yet. His portrayal made my skin crawl especially his constant movement of his tongue over his fake facial scars as if they were really a part of him. And Bale did a damn good job showing how tormented and full of anger the Bat is and how hard it is for him to restrain himself and stay “Good”.

I warn all of you that go to see it though it is rated PG-13 it is much closer to a R rating in the tone of violence so be aware of that if you take your kids. The movie is good but it’s more of a thriller then an action pic and has some good skin crawler moments in it including Harvey Dents face towards the end.

The movie ends on a kinda twist but it clearly leaves the storyline open for more.

Also just a head’s up Bale’s next movie looks to be a good one and is previewed in a few theaters it is Called Terminator :Salvation: and he plays a grown John Conner.

So go and enjoy the return of the Bat

Subject: Gonna be in the Dog house on this one sorry DM

As Malius waited for what was sure be a happy or unhappy reunion he was surprised that the first words spoken to him were not from the Bladesinger but from Geim.

“Malius lad, it is good to see you. A timely arrival.”

Geim then kind of coughed a bit clearing his throat.

“Malius lad...ah....I was hard on you back in Hith Elee. Can you forgive my harsh words?”

“The words spoken then are done my friend and I hold you not to blame for them, I just hope you can accept me back among you”

With his reply given Malius held out his hand (I assume it will be taken) with a quick shake and release Geim looked down at the encampment below. After only a moment the dwarf turned back to the two Sylvari.

“We have to get moving and quick. We may have been sent up here to find out what happened to the dwarves here in the Chakran Mountains but we have business that is more important now. The Sylvari must be warned. Malius help me just dump this body down the canyon.”

With Geim’s help, and after Thondrek's artistic additions, the Ogre he had killed was tossed down to where the oncoming horde was approaching. With a loud theatrical rendition, again by Thondrek, they were joined by the rest. Malius thought it strange at first that none other then Geim had acknowledged his presence once again amongst them but with the threat at hand he could understand the reason for a lack of greeting from most.

Once all were together the debate of what to do next started and as he had just returned to them he at first remained silent, as too did Draven and Alyssia.
Only when his name was spoken did he turn to take note of such.

"For the love of the Gods of Good, we are not an army. Malius, tell him that running back to the Moonlit Castle is just too time consuming. Time that we could use finding the reason behind this all."

Malius with Elessarae’s first words to him found himself on the spot to either agree with her or to disagree, not exactly the first words he had hoped to hear from her. With a deep breath he replied at last knowing his words would not sit well with her.

“If we run now, all of us, will not to make it. Draven, Alyssia, myself and you Elessarae would most likely be able to out run the horde but that would mean leaving Geim, Loda and Thondrek alone to die as they will not, without magical aid, be able to keep up with us and out run the goblins. Unless we have such a way to do so then I feel it is best for the majority of us to stand and fight giving one of the four fastest enough time to get away to warn the races in the hordes path. Maybe if we are lucky we can hold them off long enough to survive.”

Topic: The Chakran Portal - Q/A
Subject: Ok here's my 2 cents

Kaelyn's idea has merit and I think most of it is the way to go hold the high ground and plaster the enemy force.
Brianna also has the right of that we need to warn the Dwarves of whats headed thier way so here's as the title says my 2 cents.

First we take the best postion among the rocks and as Kaelyn said use entangle and ranged spells to hammer the critters as they reach the clearing, using the clearing as a killing ground.

Second we send the only other person possibly quicker then myself to warn the dwarves that being DM's character as she too is Sylvari.

Now all of us if we run are not going to make it, Valimar. DM and myself would most likely be able to out run the horde but that would mean leaving the dwarven party members to die. So the majority of us have to stand and fight giving DM enough time to get away to warn the other dwarves. Maybe if we are lucky we can hold them off long enough to survive.

As for melee or bow I do both well but according to Almerin I with the increase in LvL are better at melee. So I will stand up fron firing my bow till they get within melee range then switch to my swords.

Well there you have my 2 cents ............ Now its off to the Movies to see the 12:01 showing of the Dark Knight!! Woot Woot!!

As his arrow brought down the fleeing Ogre Malius knew that even though he had been successful in stopping it, the encampment below was still warned. As fate would have it the first to arrive at the Ogre’s body was of course Elessarae. Stepping out from where he had been hiding, bow in hand, a second arrow nocked, Malius made his presence known quite clearly so as not to be impaled upon the Bladesinger's sword. Looking to her as he moved to stand before her he spoke his first words to anyone in a little over a week.

“The creatures below are warned and will be here quickly we must prepare” he began to move to rejoin the others, having known thier location, but unable to greet them, thanks to the arrival of the now dead Ogre and friends. Then stopped as he realized how his sudden appearance may have shocked the Sylvari Sword Mistress.

“I promise to explain to all my absence, and to you my lady most of all, but for now an explanation will have to wait. Our foes are many and they wait not for us to meet & greet.”

As he waited for her to follow him or lead he could not help but flash back to the last week and one day.

ONE WEEK EARLIER.

Malius had kept himself out of the village for more reasons then scouting were he to be honest with himself. The murder of a full village of his race had hit the Sylvari Ranger hard, harder then anything, but one goodbye, had ever hit him before. The remembered pain from that time haunting him again he had remained in the woods till everything was done.

Only when the time for the funeral rites had come and passed, the Sylvari from the other surrounding towns had finally left, did Malius move to rejoin the rest of the party once more. Trying not to look at the others of the party, not willing to show his true feelings, he nonetheless caught the stern look from Geim. But nothing prepared him for the dwarf’s words a few moments later.

“Seems us Khords and this one young Sylvari lass were the only ones to take care of the dead. Did you hire us to do this job and somehow I missed knowing about it? His eyes went to Draven, Malius, and Alyssia. Draven, one can never count of you unless whatever it is pleases you. I expected no more. It seems common sense have deserted you as well."

Geim rounds on Malius next, his heated words unstopped. "But you Malius, I expected more from you. These were your people and you disappeared and left the whole burden on a young lass who cried her eyes out silently every time she had to pick up a child and carry them out to the wagon. She took time for find each one a toy and wrapped whatever it was up in blankets with them. You should have been there, they were your people.”

As the Ranger watched Geim and his fellow Khords walk away he caught the look of sadness in Elessarae eyes as she looked to him and then turned away to follow the rest. Malius could only assume it was due to his lack of help burying the dead and did not move after her to explain. That night sleep did not come easy in Malius mind his feelings raged between guilt and the horror of the way the town’s folk died, yet somewhere in the night he finally slept a decision made.

The next morning the Ranger was gone, two notes and all money and items given to him by Granite left behind. With two notes left behind he moved out of town and headed deeper into the forests of Alloryen his intent to head to the pools of The Lindelea Elin and with the help of the music created there by the water sprites try to regroup and lessen his feelings of pain and guilt.

With his arrival at the pools a day later he found himself a quiet place devoid of anyone and began an inner search. The music was such that he was drawn so deep into himself that it appeared to him as if were outside his body gazing down upon it as he sat crossed legged by one of the smaller pools. Malius relived the death of his former love, the death of the village, the harsh, but deserved, words of Geim, the look on Elessarae face perhaps pity, perhaps disappointment. He searched for the real reason for his leaving and with his mind and body caught up in the music it came to him as if a burst of light the truth of why he left… fear.

Funny thing fear he could stand up to the greatest of beasts as he had done against the mutant maggot but he could not face the truth about his feelings, feelings that he had not felt since the death of his wife Mira’Élan. On top of everything else these feelings were directed at yet another Bladesinger as if by some twist of addiction or perhaps fate he was drawn to her. Using the pain of the villagers death as an excuse he had fled THOSE feelings as he could not admit his attraction to Elessarae especially to himself much less her.

Opening his eyes, his soul, mind, will, whatever you wanted to call it, returned to his body and once again he knew his course and it lay not here. His things gathered in moments Malius was once again quickly headed back to Hith Elee to pick up the parties trail. Once there he easily found it and followed it to the east to catch up with them.

Now a week and one day since he had left he stood before his fear awaiting any response from her to his renewed presence.....................

Wilderness – Northeast of Night City – March, Friday 13th, 2020, 6:40pm

With the RV pulled in neatly into the thick strand of tree’s, thanks to Bull’s Eye skill of driving, it was now a waiting game Yet as Croaker sat back to await the return of Jaimy and MDK and knew that for him to just sit around waiting would drive him nuts.

He knew better then to try to follow the two of them as his skill at being quiet in the woods was like riding a Harley Davidson motorcycle through an old folk’s home at midnight. Needing to be doing something to keep his mind off the waiting he decided now was a good time to do the weapon check & cleaning he had wanted to at the club loft, but had been to busy with Jaimy, then too tired, to do so.

“Ok Bulls Eye, Firewind lets do weapon check, ammo count and a good cleaning while we wait for the others. Firewind you help me while you, Bulls Eye, keep a watch out for MDK and Peacekeeper and any unknowns. Ok my medic friend lets get started.”

Grabbing his smart bag Croaker began to empty the weapons and ammo inside it, adding those he carried on him, and making a mental count of weapon type and ammo at hand.

Armalite 44 Heavy Auto Pistol 4 clips, 1 loaded, 3 extra, 8 rounds per clip + box 46 loose, total rounds 78
H&K MPK-11 w/ m-205 Gren launcher, 2 clips, 1 loaded, 1 extra, 30 rounds per clip +10 rounds left from 3rd clip, total rounds 70. 2 Concussion Grenades in launcher.
Constitution Arms MAP Very Heavy Revolver, four cylinders, 1 loaded, 3 extra, 6 rounds per cylinders, total 24 Armor Piecing rounds.
Constitution Hurricane Shotgun, 2 drum magazines, 1 loaded, 1 extra, 40 rounds per drum, total 80 rounds.
Gerber Mark III Double Bladed Combat Knife.

After this mental inventory was complete he began, with the medic’s help, a through cleaning of all of them, including Firewind’s pistol and Bulls Eye Comanche, handing both back when finished. A look to his watch told him that during the cleaning and inventory a good 3 hours had passed since Jaimy and MDK had left.

“Bulls Eye how many rounds you have left for your Comanche”
(After his reply)
“Ok here” Croaker said to the other Nomad handing him the Constitution. ”Shotgun’s all yours then. Firewind is this the only hardware you carrying or do you have any other weapons on you.”
(Again after any reply assuming he has only the 1pistol if memory serves)
“Ok then better the Doctor then a fighter, we get into the shit keep your head down and keep us patched up and alive.”

With nothing constructive to do at the moment, Croaker wishing he had not quit smoking as a promise to Jaimy, all the big Nomad could do was wait.........
