Why drop the Assassin sub-class? Its all on RPGBOT and can easily be copied and pasted to your posted character sheet on here even if its not on your D&D Beyond character sheet. The character sheets on D&D Beyond will make it easier for Nomad to do the needed rolls and keep track of EXP while the completed sheets will be posted in the games Q/A.

If D&D Beyond was set up for 2e I might think of restarting Trilogy sometime sooner as it would give me a boost to running the game easier and faster, however its not and DMing a game like this or Trilogy is not easy. Its a lot harder then it looks especially the higher the lvl. Example below

AssassinPHB

Assassins are good at two things: Infiltration and (you guessed it) assassination. If you want to get into places unsuspected or just straight up murder people, the Assassin is the way to go. However, they lack utility options for handling situations outside their specialized skillset.

  • Bonus Proficiencies: Both tool kits are fantastic and open up wonderful options for the Rogue.

  • Assassinate: This is excellent motivation to lead off every combat with a huge damage die, but Sneak Attack requires that your attack be dexterity-based, so you may want to use a Rapier or Heavy Crossbow (which requires you to find the proficiency somewhere) to deal as much damage as possible.

  • Infiltration Expertise: Situational, but very flavorful, and absolutely fantastic in some situations.

  • Impostor: Situational, but very flavorful.

  • Death Strike: Combined with Sneak Attack and Assassinate, this is an absolutely huge pile of damage.

It is with the utmost regret and sorrow that I must be it seems the first to  let the Inn know that Sir Ian Holm, Bilbo Baggins from the Lord Of The Ring films died Friday morning at age 88. May he live forever in our hearts and minds as he who found the one ring that which he called his precious.

Three Rings for the Elven Kings under the sky
Seven for the Dwarf-Lords in their halls of stone
Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die
One for the Dark Lord on his Dark Throne
In the Land of Mordor where the shadows lie.

One Ring to rule them all
One Ring to find them
One Ring to bring them all
and in the darkness bind them
In the Land of Mordor where the shadows lie.

Rest In Peace Sir Ian......

Subject: A closer look

Ok looking over everything with costs and such I now think it would be better to go without Talents as you, Nomad, have to be the one to physically add them to each character sheet. I did not realize the cost would be that high and looking over the current characters, Talents would really not change that much in the long run without some of the other added information from the expansion books.

As for the races, classes and sub classes yon can just do what I did in Trilogy, add them to each character as needed and we just use D&D Beyond as a base for you to roll dice using our sheets. Beyond allows that now so all you have to do Nomad is click on a skill or action and the computer rolls the dice. Also when our characters lvl up we can use Beyond to help keep track of it all.. The rest of the information needed is all there on RPGBOT and its free no need for books. Here is that link again.

I sent a pm to Nomad telling him what I found out last night, but basically it comes down to him owning all the expansion books. I aslo gave him the email of a 5e expert where he could get help in cutting some of the costs if Nomad decides to go that way.

Subject: Keeper

First of all both subclasses, Swashbuckler and Battlemaster, are legal, Battlemaster is even listed in the Player's Handbook. If you want to find out more on each classe's subclasses look for, as Mischief said, on the front page. Use the one that will take you to RPGBOT and it will tell you all you need to know. Only reason we don't have access to them is this campaign is that Nomad has to grant us access. Why that is I have no clue and I hope to find all that out 2 morrow night from Josh my DM for that game and his Dad.

As for Talent Tree skills that's up to Nomad and each player. You don't have to use the two free starting points if you don't want to. I know Silver could use them, as could your thief Keeper, but not much there to make Steel better except for a small raise in his armor class if instead of using a shield he uses 2 weapon fighting. That also assumes that Mischief wants to use the Talent Tree herself and she has not told me anything if she decided eithier way.

Lets see what I find out 2 morrow night.

Subject: Up to Nomad

As DM he will have to eithier buy or gain access to the other books that allow you to gain them for your character. Only reason I was able to do that for Steel and Mischief's character Silver was because I am already in a game that the DM gave us access to that info. So I created both in that campaign then dropped them from that campaign and moved both to Nomad's campaign. We are playing in that same campaign Saturday night and I'll hopefully get the info Nomad will need to open up those other spells and skills.

Also was wondering Nomad are we a group thats been together for awhile or are we coming together for the first time? Reason I ask out of the characters already listed I can't help but feel that Nimu's character would be the best fit for party leader.

If coming together for the first time she could be the reason why as she could recruit us fopr some type of mission. Or if we are already a established party she would still be a good leader. Nimu this is all based on your RP in Trilogy and honestly wee have 2 thieves, never good leader types. We have a Cleric, though he could be the leader he is kinda of a front line fighter and then we have me. Steel is a straight forward killer he was built to fight and loves nothing more, except maybe his hellhound puppy, and the only friend he has is Silver sooo ahhh no leader here.

Also have you decided on if you'll allow the Talent Tree Nomad

Just thought to get this out of the way quickly.

Well uh yeah   We need to know the type of bar and what type of buildings are around it, how many entrance, exits. How many windows if any, type and number of people inside when we enter.  Any ganger types that could give us trouble like that last bar. Seating available that type of minor shit that we as a hardened shadow runner group would look for.

Nomad, Saturday night I'll be playing in the Discord/Fantasy Grounds/D&D Beyond game i'm currently in. I'll ask the DM how he got the campaign and such up and running with us being able to create characters using varients and other then normal races such as the Warforged. As Keeper already has said you may have to pay for a few books but I'll hopefully get the info we need.

Mischief is thinking on it but is unsure as its a new system she has absolutely no experience with. Only character D&D wise she has ever played was a Thief in my game. Sooo I'm thinking of giving her my thief character and running a Warforged Fighter named Steel. That would give us 5 players with 2 thieves, 1 cleric, 1 mage and a fighter. Will that work? Just a head's up Nomad in the beginning until she would get the hang of it I'd be helping her alot so don't be surprised if her posts sound like me lol

Nomad are you allowing any start up magic items? My Rogue can be a good at dealing damage but he is not a fighter at third lvl due to the armor he can wear, and so far I see we have 2 Rogues, 1 Cleric and a Wizard. Kinda still sorta need a meat shield

As for Blacktooth or Forgotten eithier one is ok with me though never played in Blacktooth before.

D&D Beyond does follow the rules a little too much lol. To access some of the subclasses like swashbuckler I think you have to grant access. Also in using D&D Beyond we can store our characters there if you create a campaign home group where all our characters would be visible to each player.

Point buy starts everyone out at 27 points to add to skills.

As for the Talent Tree, the DM who is running my online game started us out with Variant 1 and so far that has worked out. He also gave us the choice when we gained our Ability Score Improvement points that we could instead spend them on Talents if so desired. However when using Talents and D&D Beyond you as the DM have to add the talents to our sheets as Beyond does not have them for use.

If you need help Nomad with the talents I can ask Josh, our DM, or his Dad Randy, player help DM, for any help with any questions you might have.

Rogue reporting for duty sar! (Said in a heavy scotish brogue)

I think starting at 3rd level would make the game more interesting as that would allow the players to pick a subclass. For my Rogue I'd go with Swashbuckler.

Few Questions....

1)  Are you planning to allow Talent Trees?

2) Can we create our characters using D&D Beyond?

3) If so how do you want them created, Standard Array, Manual or Point Buy?

Well thats all for the moment I'll also PM a few others to see if any want to join. Looking forward to it.

@Keeper if you need any help let me know in the last 8 months playing in the 5e game on Discord I've learned alot about 5e. No expert for sure, but better then I was lol

The only good thing about this pandemic is the wives have allowed the older players like Odyson to play twice a month rather then just one time lol

So you play in a live game? Table Top I assume?

Also let me ask around if your willing to run a 5e game I might be able to find a few players. Afterall Trilogy is on Hiatus remember. How many would be a good start?

What we do is using headphones and mics we talk on Discord in a thread specifically created for the game and use Fantasy Grounds for dice rolling, our character sheets, game maps etc... Our next session is Saturday night the 20th maybe I can get our DM to let you sit in to see how it all works. We normally start at 8pm Central time but most of us are on Discord by 7:30pm Central. Our DM is on Pacific Time as he is in California.

Its pretty much table top D&D just with out being in the same room lol  Oh and Odyson is one of the players also and he is the one who got me into the game.
