Subject: The Return Of Highnar

BACKPOST
(Yet at the Inn)

Finally the last of them the one named Brianna had gotten up from the table and with a polite few words gone off to sleep. With her departure and still a half mug of beer before him, Brianna having bought this last round of beer, Highnar knew the next time the two of them drank together he would surely be the one to buy the last round.

For awhile as he slowly finished his beer he sat and pondered the nature of this Prophecy that the one named Lorae had spoken of and could feel his place in it. The rune that he had picked had named him Eihwaz which stood for the yew tree and Highnar could not help but grumble at that for it seemed more like something suited for an Elf. But the rest about trust, honesty and being reliable was never wanting in a Dwarf and Highnar could very well relate.

Finally his pondering and beer empty and the call of sleep close he stood and prepared himself for sleep but it was not yet to be as the Innkeeper did approach.

“My lord dwarf there has been a problem with the boy you talked about earlier it seems he has been taken by a gang of ruffians and made to join their gang, clearly against his will.

“Have ye a location for these ruffians??”

“Aye lord they are said to hang out in the retail shop area just to the South of the main shopping district”

“Show me”

With a quick map drawn Highnar knew sleep would have to wait as he headed into the district named, it was not long before he found what he sought.
With axes to hand and a face full of fake rage he managed in 2 hours time to free the boy, scare the ruffians, all young lads, into leaving the boy alone, and returning with the boy to the Inn and into the innkeepers safe keeping. With only a few hours left till dawn and a journey to begin Highnar retreated to his bed.

Highnar awoke not the least bit hung over but yet tired for sleep he had so little but with a look out the window he realized that the morning had passed him by and that it was already midday.
With a gathering of his axes and gear and armor replaced upon him he rushed downstairs to find as he had feared that the rest had left without him. Hurrying to the stables he was yet again disappointed to learn no ponies were there to buy. At a loss of what to do next, here it was that luck and possibly the God Moradin came to his aid.

As Highnar tried to think of a way to catch the others the boy from the night before did approach him.

“Sir dwarf I thank you for my freedom I was sure they would hurt or kill me if I did not go along with them.”

“Nay lad tis be nothing to thank me for you are strong and good, it have been wrong to let ye stay with them.”

“But I must thank you for not to do so would leave me no better then the rest, as such I give to you the only thing of value I have ever had.”

With a hand from a pocket drawn the boy presented to Highnar an Ivory Figurine of a goat.

“This statuette was my fathers and given to me by him on his dying day. He told me to only use it if really needed as it only had one use left. He called it a Goat of Traveling and gave me its command word.”

“Again nay lad I canna take your Dad’s gift to ye it would be wrong.”

“Please sir dwarf for me for if you do not take it I will feel forever be indebt to you and never live at ease.”

With that the boy did hand the Goat to Highnar and telling him of the command word did with a smile turn and run before Highnar could follow.
With nothing left to do but use it Highnar gave the command word and finally a stead had he if only for a few hours. His gear packed and on the goats back clearly a sight to see Highnar did ride after the rest of the party not stopping to rest throughout the day.
And so it was that Highnar having missed the party’s departure earlier that morn did finally find himself rejoining them in time for battle....

PRESENT

A Quick survey of the scene before him showed that the party faced a number of Drow warriors and almost seemed a little out numbered. Looking to the placement of his new friends he could see that Brianna was at the side of Logan who was clearly wounded and bleeding, Lorae and Xour with bows to hand were trading arrows with hidden archers and any Drow in view. The Dragonet Flame having seemingly blinded a Drow in front of him moved closer to attack it; clearly it was time for a certain dwarf to enter the fray!!

“Ahhh Clanggedin ye have blessed me this day with a battle that surely be needing a dwarf’s skilled hand. Guide me axes true oh God of War for I be wanting to shed some Drow blood."

With a loud dwarven war cry “ Ains Muaar Nosste!!” and both axes to hand Highnar kicked the Goat into motion and attacked.....

(OOC: OK not sure of where I am in relation to any Drow so I will using the Goats speed to attack the nearest Drow or enemy I can see and reach. As for the Goat I took a liberty there I know but I thought it would make for a slightly humorous way for him to catch up. As the boy told him it is good for only one use so in roughly a few hours time it will be gone.)

As Croaker continued to watch the street awaiting word from Coyote as to the status of the sentries, Preacher’s words cut through his concentration.

"Hey, pardn’r, Looks like we might be a bit too late.”

Following Preacher’s gaze Croaker saw the receding shapes of Spiff, Peacekeeper and Firewind enter the building.

“Damn, Ok we have no more time to think about this we need to move now. Ok Preacher, you and I will cross first then you Coyote. Once again with your eyes Coyote keep watch over us and provide covering fire if we need it. Once we are set we will cover you as you cross. Everyone ready ok lets do it."

Without another word Croaker moved out onto the street to cross it..........

Subject: Remaining Silent

Talas was quiet as he listened to Jal’s words on who he truly was and could not help but feel closer to the little mage then he had before. All of the others it seemed had secrets to keep, although he himself had none, he was as they knew him a slave turned Gladiator turned free man, but he could see the rest it seemed did. No matter, he thought to himself, as long as they were capable he had no worries as to their secrets.

As such he once again remained silent to the discussion of the others as to what to do next, when both Char brought up the question of Dapple and he conducting a recon he knew his bulk was unsuitable for such a task and so again said nothing. Then it was that Jal brought up the use of magic and clear it was that he too wanted to go with Char and Dapple, as Talas was about to enter the discussion in the negative of Jal’s wants, Char did speak up also in the negative saving Talas the trouble of speaking so once again the big man remained silent.

Then the ex-red spoke up and as if preordained his words were insulting of the need for caution and the art of deception. What was it about the Red, was he so foolhardy as to think of charging into the middle of the keep below. Did he think they had the numbers to succeed if so then they had a problem for sure. Once again Talas was ready to reply as such but was as before beaten to the punch by Arien and so yet again remained silent. But a small voice inside him wondered if Adrian was not a plant upon them and in reality sought their doom. But as quickly as that thought arose so did the revelation that if that was so, Granitecrusher would have known and killed the ex-red off.

Turning his gaze towards the keep below Talas felt the old anger rise within him. Below were members or ex members of the regime that had killed his family and made him a slave but though in all honesty he too would have liked nothing better then to charge down the hill and kill as many of them as he could, he knew doing so in the end would only lead to a meaningless death without the glory of a match won and as such he held his place upon the ledge waiting for the next steps to be taken.

If anything he would await the words of Arien as to what the rest of them would do as Dapple and Char with the help of Jal scouted below......

Subject: Sorry I am sorta late Really bad weather here

A LITTLE BACKPOST

As the words between Jal and Dapple just seemed to continue to escalate the growing feeling of mistrust between the group and the small mage, Talas had finally had enough.

“Enough!! This is not doing any of us any good to stand here and bicker as if children. No matter Jal’s faults or state of mind as to this dead friend, he has so far proven able in this quest. If he could not be trusted to do his part would not Granitecrusher have chosen another?? We must work as a team and trust that each of will be there for the others for if not we are doomed to fail. Let us instead of arguing seek such shelter as we may find.”

Having said more words then normal the Ex-Gladiator hoped his words would at least for the moment stop the hostility among the party. For he had decided in that small span of minutes that if this party could not work together he would turn back to Freegate and report as such to Granitecrusher. Then thanks to the Mage Adrian a hut was formed and shelter was had for the night, and the bickering for the momnet was over. Positioning himself as close to the small mage as Jal would allow he drifted off to sleep.

PRESENT

With a quick breakfast had they left camp at early light and moved out in silence. Talas knew that the mood of everyone seemed to be held in check below once again bringing up this Wynter but by midday no one as yet had brought it to the fore once again. Finally in the afternoon they reached their target. The old worn out keep coming into view over the top of a small cliff, but luckily the edge hid all of them from the view so that anyone watching their way from below would have a very hard time spotting them.

Now Talas thought to himself the real part of this mission would begin, he only hoped that the trust each of them must have in the others would be there....

Croaker continued to watch the street before him as Preacher replaid to his question.

“God will show us a way. Maybe we should jus’ work at getting’ closer. Might be that we have t’ worry ‘bout a gunfight from the ground up. Might be that the Almighty’ll reveal a differen’ option as we press in.”

Lacking any better idea, Croaker decided that Preacher’s idea was better then nothing, but as for God watching over them Croaker being agnostic did not believe in the mythology of said superior being. Though not an aethist by any means Croaker believed more in the theory of Evolution then of a single creator, and would hold judgement until presented with undeniable proof of the all mighty.

“Ok Preacher your right sitting here is doing nobody any good” (Turning to Coyote)
“Coyote seems you’ve got good eyes tonight can ya get a bead on the Holes roof and see if you can pinpoint those guards again. Hopefully we can move past them and get across the street without getting seen.”

As he awaited Coyote’s observations Croaker could not help in worring about sending Jaimy into the Lion’s Den alone and without him.
True she as Peacekeeper was the more experienced of any of them, but still he loved her and though he had, had little choice in sending her, yet he was not happy with it at all.
All he could do was hope that everything worked as he had planned and she, Spiff and Firewind could get inside and that he, Preacher and Coyote could get across the street to back them up when the call came. Even if the three of them made it across the street it would still be a waiting game on a clock quickly running out of time....

Subject: What now??

As Croaker, Coyote and Preacher having finally gained the side of the building closet to the gray apt building after their somewhat time consuming detour took a quick break Croaker took in their new surroundings.

The three’s new position was one building south of the gray apartment building that he had indicated they were heading for. The street upon which they found themselves now was the same street they’d initially driven while heading north past the Hole. It wasn’t particularly well-lit, but it did sport the occasional street light. The building they shouldered was a white brick; the stone near their position marked up with spray paint and stained. There were windows embedded in the cement with barred barriers between the glass and the street as well as street-level windows that started about shoulder-level. These, too, were barred and secured. From their position peering around the corner, the three men could make out the corner upon which the Hole resided and could see traffic clearly. Cars, trucks, buses, and vans all passed by. Though it was definitely not as active as it could have been, it was obvious to the three that there’d be no real break in the flow.

Ahead and to the left stood the entry stoop for the gray building Croaker had originally set his sights on. It was wide at nearly three meters and rose up a good meter to the door, providing two cement buttresses to protect the stair. The doors were inset within the brick, back from the small porch by about a meter as near as they could tell, and completely blocked from their vision by the east-facing wall of the building. A thin road ran between the apartment building by which they stood and the gray apartment building to the north. Though the road was barely big enough to allow two cars passage, there was enough space between the two buildings to equal at least thirty meters, if not more. Across the two lanes to the east and a bit kitty-corner to their position was a large tree set in a raised cement block that was easily a meter tall and two meters wide on all four sides. An iron fence surrounded the tree, but it was only half a meter high and was more decorative than functional. The building behind the tree was large and gray. It rose up six stories in the main portion with each jutting section to the north and south only being four stories high. This would be a higher security apartment building and to the north of it ran a private lane to the covered parking barely visible behind.

The building to the north of that was similar in function and more than likely in security. How the Wild Things had managed to land their current residence was beyond Croaker’s imagination. These weren’t the slums, and the residents of these apartment buildings likely worked for corporations with enough influence that if they felt threatened an end could be put to their tomfoolery but to have gang bangers living next door to them these people must have somehow been paid off to keep quiet. Croaker knew without a doubt at that moment that something much more then a simple snatch and grab was at stake here.

The building on the corner east of the Hole was also an apartment building of equal height to the Hole. While there was no one walking the street at this time and in this weather other than the three Shadow runners, the passing lights of moving vehicles kept the open sidewalk fairly well illuminated.
This was not what he had hoped for at all with the well lighted street before them and what appeared to be a good level of sec on the gray building and those surrounding getting someone onto a roof to take out the Wild Thing sniper/guards were looking damn slim. Croaker knew without getting rid of those guards trying to cross the street would be close to suicidal.
Turning to Coyote and Preacher he did the one thing he could think of

“Ok anyone got any good ideas as to how we take out the guards. Speak now, time is running out.”

He awaited any answers....

(OOC: Ok Brom as you can see it’s a short post just to get the game going again and I copied and pasted your description of the area we are in to add a little of Croakers impressions I hope you don’t mind my stealing )

For Talas the rain falling from the sky as they approached the Waymeet was just another way of knowing he was yet alive and free. If he had still been a captive warrior he would have been watching this rain fall through the bars of his indoor cell.
With the findings of Char relied to them that the Waymeet they headed for was in fact destroyed a discussion of possible alternatives ensured.
Talas not really familiar with the area chose to remain quiet as the others debated their next course of action.
Here it was then that his friend Jal did speak up.

“There is a cave nearby, Could we could use that?”

Everyone had stopped and looked at the little mage then as if not believing what he was saying and to Talas it seemed one or two even appeared hostile.

“That way, about a quarter mile,” Jal continued. “It is rather large, and should hold all of us.”

Then it seemed it was as Talas feared as the boy thief stepped forward as if in threat

“How the hell do you know that, Spellbinder,” Dapple demanded “when Char does not? You don’t strike me as someone who left the city to stroll the countryside.”

Moving slowly as to hopefully not appear threating,Talas moved himself somewhat in front of Jal and gave Dapple a look as to tell him to calm down, but did not speak.

“Wynter…Wynter told me,” The mage said softly from somewhat to the right of Talas “She… she tells me things… show me things…”

With the party all staring at each other and Jal, a sort of stalemate set in each awaiting the words of the others and that of their leader as to what to do next…..

Ok guys I seem to find myself in need of some idea help here. My purpose in moving to the gray building was to hopefully gain entrance into it and get up to its roof. We need to take out the Wild Thing guard/snipers on the hole's roof and to do that we need to get within range of our SMG's since thats all we really have and the roof of the gray building looked like the closet.
So anybody got any idea's as to how to get into the building and past its security gates and alarms, I am open to all idea's.
