Topic: The Guiding Light
Subject: Tower of the Dead

The way to the lighthouse had been almost as if a scenic stroll in a disheveled garden as no enemy rose to face them.
Once they had reached the tower it was no trouble to gain entrance to it and so the 4 of them and their prisoner moved inside. The tower for the most part was the same as many before and after it with a ground level consisting of several rooms, and an entry hall, a kitchen and dining area and an empty pantry cleaned out of any usable supplies, the kitchen cupboards bare.

With a look to his cousin and her nod of ok he led them up to the 2nd floor to find several empty rooms, a bedroom containing an adult sized bed and a bookshelf, the contents of which scattered across the floor. A second, clearly a workshop of some sort, with the sort of tools one would expect to find in the possession of a glassblower, yet most of the items broken or badly damaged.

Moving deeper into the second floor the party found a sitting room and finally the master bedroom and the body of a dead women flung to the ground as if a piece of meat. Tal’Anor with a hand raised to stop anyone else from entering moved to the body of the dead women. A somewhat clean sheet taken from the bed he took hold of the body and wrapping it in the sheet repositioned it in respect.

“May the Goddess Oriana watch over you in the hereafter and may your soul find its peace among the heavens.”

With that done Tal moved to rejoin the others and with them, Ena now in the lead, moved up yet still more stairs to another floor. The first room before them an empty storage room, the next a playroom, with wooden toys scattered on the ground and after that two children's bedrooms, each also heavy with the scent of death. Tal knew what awaited them and tried to stop the rest from entering to see the horror before them but due to his position now at the rear of the party it was to no avail. Two children once so alive now dead their young lives as that of women, clearly the mother, taken from them violently.
In front of the Paladin Varuna seeing the dead children went into a rage grabbing the prisoner by the collar and drew him roughly to him until they was nose to nose

“What are you people? Who would do such a thing to a woman and her children?”

The pirate shrugged,

“Nothing personal mate, just business.”

Varuna snarled at him

“Business? Let me show you what it is like.”

Varuna roughly hauled the man up the final flight of stairs, practically dragging him till they reached the top level. He pulled him out onto the parapet and dragged him to the edge and stopped holding him against the old railing as he set his mace down.

“Vermin such as you are not human, you slaughter others like animals and so you should be treated like diseased animals and put to death.”

Before anyone could stop him the Cleric threw the prisoner out upon the towers side to hang by the rope held in Varuna‘s hands.

“Do you like that feeling? Do you like knowing that you are about to die? This is what your victims feel right before you slaughter them; not a nice feeling is it?”

Tal moved to stop the Cleric from killing the man, though perhaps deserving of death, it would parley no favor with Varuna’s patron to do so in cold blood. But as before Ena’s quickness thanks to her training as a Bladesinger beat him.

“No!” she cried

”We cannot do this. We will not sink to their level! Remember your vows to the Goddess, Varuna.

With his rage ebbing it was easy for Ena’Aranthea to calm him down and pull the man to safety. Leaving the two to themselves for the moment he turned to take care of the children as he had done for the mother to find that Valendara had beat him to it.

“Thank you Val, but I must ask you to step outside as I must say a prayer for them to the Goddess Oriana to watch over them in the heavens.”

Moving next to the wrapped bodies Tal laid his hands upon each and prayed.

“My lady Oriana take the souls of these two lost children, show them the way and lead them back into the light of your love. Show them their lives were not lived in vain and they shall be missed by at least I your mortal lover.”

With the prayer over Tal and the others reached the towers top to find the lamp itself broken, glass shards scattered everywhere across the floor. The lighthouse lamp is damaged beyond repair, and any oil that may have been stored here has been carried away. The tower once a needed gateway to safe passages now just a destroyed Tower of Death.

Turning to Ena he awaited the parties’ next move....

Highnar having killed the Orcs around him found himself at the moment with no new foes.
As he scanned the clearing for more the loathsome creatures he saw that most of them still alive were it seemed attempting to escape. Then Logan called to him from beside Lorae his mood jovial in nature amidst the gore of battle.

"Highnar, since when did you start to ask an elf to take something on before you? I always figured you would want first blood of that smelly, green pig crap looking creature."

“Ay lad but I’s being the gentle men and offering the lady first dibs.”

Then turning to Brianna on his left as always he posed a new question.

“My good Lady it seems we have brok’in the backs of these critters, what say you, shall we pursue?? “

His axe dripping blood but still thirsting for more the Dwarf awaited the Elf’s reply.

(OOC: Ok I could not remember if Brianna is Human or Elvin. If I have it wrong let me know and I will edit the above.
Also I hate to bring it up here but Logan are you still in Cerebral Paradox we need to know a yes or no as we need a Bullseye character. Please let me or Brom know thanks.)

Standing next to the Bladesinger Malius could not help but admire the shape of her athletic body. He had known a few before her but she somehow seemed better toned, more in control of her abilities then the rest. This matched with her beauty made her highly desirable to Malius.
But enough of his mind wondering back to the task at hand.

“So Me Lady have you any thoughts how we might gain entrance to this tower. Our friend Draven is inside all alone and surely if he faces the same as we have, then he is in dire need indeed.”

Looking once again to the window from which Thondrek had first entered the tower mayhap Malius thought it was time for himself to enter the same way....

(OK Al if we do not find a way through the door I will using the rope I imagine is still there or by using my own to gain entrance into the Tower.)(

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL)

You let Kane know that then he will assign watches with the officers included.
I could not do that before without your ok as commanding officer, sorry if that caused a hic up .

Also in answer to Van as to my placing myself on last watch again that was due to Inga's health status.
As our only Medic Kane felt he could not take the chance of her being worse off then was realized so he stood watch with her to make sure she was able to function without help.

Also I guess no one noticed how I set up the watch pairs, I set them up by rank with the senior of the pair in charge. I just wanted to try to clarify my madness

As with everything in life, the more things change the more they seem to stay the same
Fenris could not help but think to himself as he approached Dash and Cap’n Wyatt for the first time in years. Not even seen by the two as yet and already a fight had started out this involving a young girl and a high swift kick. The girl clearly no brawler yet with some skill nailed some guy square in the nose then quickly following up with another kick, to the exact same place mind you shattered the dude‘s nose damn good. As blood poured from his nose the girl cried out in fear and ran to Wyatt and the beautiful female, and hid behind them.

The gravel below Fenris betraying his approach, Wyatt and Sam looked behind them and it was with a sense of pride perhaps that the both of them recognized him with no need of an intro.

“Hiya Cap’n, Dash, long time, I see ya still saving them damsels in distress.”

Before any response or an intro to the Lovely Lady could be given things changed once again as from around the side of the stables came running five men, all oriental, dressed in black. They were armed with pistols on their sides, double machetes on their backs, while three carried shotguns and two had rifles. Then if that was not enough four more came running around the other side of the stables, similarly armed. They were as far Fenris could tell from his time on Frisco Tong thugs and they quickly moved to surround the 6 of them.

“Well Dash drawing a crowd like normal I see, damn but I have missed this.”

Fenris said with a smile, though armed with both his auto in his left hand and sawed off in his right hand, clearly they were outgunned. But having been so bored, for so long anything was better then repairing piss poor machines. Though not yet hired on as crew still to Fenris it felt good to be home....

Topic: A Cold Day in Hell Q&A
Subject: Actually Brom

Speaking as a former Staff Sergeant that would be the wrong thing to do unless it was absolutely necessary which it is not per Olan’s last health update.
Doing so would show everyone in the company two things right off the bat.

1st you do not have faith in your senior NCO to follow your orders and make the right call. This in turn makes the NCOs job just that much harder as the men will not respect him because of it. This in turn may cause them not to follow his orders when given. I speak as an NCO who has encountered such newly minted 2nd Lt’s and the problems they can cause.

2nd and most important it shows that your one to change his mind at any moment may order one thing then do something else. That you don’t trust the NCOs and soldiers below you to carry out orders as they are trained to do.That you have to be in control all the time for example it could basically be best decribed that you were like the Lt from the movie Aliens.

To be honest, and I hope I am not giving anything away, this game is a lot like that, you’re the Lt, Blake is Ripley and I am senior Sergeant Apone.
The rest of the players are the team that died for the most part in the movie. Sorry guys but Apone died too

In the end it’s your call Brom and as Kane I will follow any order you give just wanted to give you a heads up from this former NCO.

Subject: To Clarify

In the Military no enlisted man can tell an officer to take a watch or really to do anything unless so directed by an officer of higher rank then said officer.

In layman's terms unless the Lt told me to assign Blake a watch shift I would not do so. Also Van you asked why I assigned Hatherford well there's only 6 grunts and the two officers, but if had been Moderate/Serious combat damage no I would not have assigned him a watch. I based it off Olan's last update of our state of health before the most recent as listed below. Taking into account Johannsen's serious cold damage at that time I gave her last watch with me giving her 4 hours of rest before her watch as the worst of the cold damage.

LT Kernan: mild cold damage.
PFC Pearson: moderate cold damage.
WO Blake: minimal cold damage, minimal combat damage.
CPL Hatherford: moderate cold damage, mild combat damage.

CPL Hart: moderate cold damage
SSG Kane: moderate cold damage
CPL Johannsen: serious cold damage
SGT Lee: mild cold damage

BACKPOST

“What are your orders sir”.....

"Make sure we're properly covered while Johannsen patches those two up. Then I think we'll dig in for a few hours and see what strength we can recover. I believe the bunks'll do just fine for that.
Set up the watch schedule, Staff Sergeant. As soon as we're able we'll move out."

“Yes Sir.”

Turning to the rest of the troopers

“Ok two hour watches Hart, Pearson your up first, one to the south, the other north. Lee, Hatherford next, then Johannsen and myself.”

With the watch rotation for the next six hours set Kane took an MRE out of his ruck and was pleased to see it was Dogs and beans his favorite. Of course truth be told thought he had seeded his supply of them too his tastes it was still nice to eat something with a little taste to it.
God how he remembered K-Rats, the Army’s pre prep meals before MRE’s, talk about no taste, chalk tasted better then K-Rats. Plastic spoon in hand he chow’d down.

PRESENT

With the watches and the six hour rest over the Lt finally told all about his and Team A’s earlier discovery of the bloodstains and other battle signs. With Hart once again on post and Hatherford this time as rear guard they moved out with the way to the observatory leading through area described by the Lt the entire team was able to see first hand what Team A had found.

The hall to the observatory was clearly somewhat odd; with double sets of doors that had to be opened together to enter the room. With the second door opened the strangeness of this whole mission increased. The first - and most obvious - sign that something had gone very wrong was the fact that the dark, heavy bloodstains leading into the large room seemed to stop completely, as if the bodies that were being dragged simply vanished into thin air. Despite the indications on the floor that the bodies were copiously leaking fluid, there was not a single drop within the observatory itself.

A quick scan of the observatory, showed that the large, domed room was very sparse, compared to the rest of the facility. The chamber as everything else in the facility was quite cold, and due to the circular nature of the room acted as if standing on a cliff over a canyon amplifies the echoes of any sound. The domed ceiling currently closed, and a large telescope points towards the heavens.

Then without warning things started to get interesting as the sound of automatic weapons fire and two soldiers in U.S. Army garb duck for cover and begin firing bursts at at the team.
Kane reacted quickly

“Hold your fire, everyone pull back we need them alive”

With the Team pulled back Kane awaited the Lt’s orders of how he wanted to play this first contact....

For arguments sake let’s say you did, well then putting the word out to them costs us nothing but words. But if some survived your ‘divine wind’ then they’ll be pissed and by using that anger we can bye some time. You have your role in this so let us worry about the rest.”

Croaker turned away from the Fixer for but a moment before facing him dead on.

“Oh and as far as trusting you, think again, if we did not need you I would kill you cold for leaving Peacekeeper and Guardian alone at the Hole. Now where were we”

No offense taken your right I should have assigned guards, been a long week and I have been distracted of late, but that’s no excuse.

As far as the Radio discipline that’s actually standard procedure during patrol or a combat Op in most Combat Arm units in the American Military…
Its there to keep the channels open for the command staff in case of orders or emergencies. Think about it if everyone starts talking at once that just makes it hard to give out orders. Unless a trooper is specifically addressed they stay quiet unless it’s an emergency. The questions asked below are for me to ask as team leader not to be shouted out over the comm set if the Lt had more to tell me shouting out would have caused us to miss his next words which could have been a bad thing had it been a warning. The Lt said “Stand Ready” not to come to him so the patrol continued. I hope my explanation helps to give everyone in the game a better understanding.

If anyone wants to know anything Military wise for a post PM me and I will answer to the best of my knowledge.

“On Alert! Acknowledged! Lee and Johannsen rendezvousing with Sgt Kane.” This from Lee.
“This is Johnannsen, IS anyone injured? Is there still hostile action.” This from Johnannsen.

Subject: Modifying Scribes plan/Lets play twister

Night City University, Medical Education Laboratory, Science Labs Building – Lower West Side – Night City – March, Friday 13th, 2020, 2:40am

Croaker for sure did not like the position of trust he found himself in. Though Jack was right, the Nomad still felt he, Jaimy and Bullseye even on their own, could find a way to beat the corp. He did not want to need the Mob Boss fixer, or be in his debt but really in the end he had no choice, yet he did have a twist to play.
Scribes voice broke into his thoughts bringing him back to the present minute.

"OK. You’ve got to see reason, Croaker. It looks like everyone is up for the basics of my plan, so there’s just the ironing out of the details left to do—and the contingencies to put in place as per Preacher’s suggestions—but the roles are all wrong.
Spiff needs someone who can drive along for the ride with him. I think he was dead on in suggesting Bullseye. Preacher has some Net experience so he’s better suited for the lab run. Guardian and I need to split to get the word to our sources, so we can’t be included in either run, and Jack obviously needs to being working his magic in order to make sure we all have time to enact our plan. As I see it—and correct me if you see a better idea—this leaves Spiff alone with Bullseye, you, Preacher, Peacekeeper, and Firewind making the lab run, Guardian and I off to Hollywood (figuratively speaking), and Jack taking his crew and getting to work. Four different teams working towards the same objectives.”

“Ok fair enough Frankie but lets add a twist to this little scenario of yours Biotechnia wants Mery Deth that’s a given. They want her alive that’s pretty much also a given. If Spiff and Bullseye show up with a dead Mery Deth the meet could very well explode into a gunfight, the real trick as I see it, is to keep Mery Deth “alive” as long as possible to them.
Jack as they hired you, to hire us you call them, tell them we are running behind schedule, roughly 15 minutes, the reason why is up to you.
Frankie using your Media contacts get the word out as fast as you can to the Wild Things that Biotechnia is behind the snatch and Mery Deth is to be traded to them in the next half hour, give whoever you use the location to give to them. As the Wild Things also don’t know she’s dead, they are surely pounding the pavement looking for her and are armed to the teeth. Lets use one enemy against the other to equalize the odds a little bit more in our favor. Hopefully the Wild Things get to the meet first and raise hell giving us the excuse to not make the meet until later this morning or better yet tommorrow night. Then Biotechnia or Jack contact one or the other and Jack tells them due to the fire fight we had to abort and set up a new meet.
This should give us enough time to hit the lab and maybe get some hard Intel on the corp. that Spiff and Bullseye can use if needed at the meet. Also that will give Firewind here time to see to the wounded and maybe a quick resupply.
Spiff, you and Bullseye head out now but go slow, Frankie will call you and give you a heads up on the meet’s status after we see if the Wild Things will beat you there or not if they do, abort and head for wherever Jack wants you. If not, make the meet at the delayed time and play it as best you can. We need to make a call on this quick, like Jack stated time is not on our side right now so let’s try to buy us some. Jack we can't stay here much longer we need a place to lay low long enough to get set, got one for us?"

As they continued their search of the south end of the facility, heading slowly towards a link up with the Lt and Team A, Kane was struck at the quiet of it all. Something somehow had gone very, very wrong and those techs or Soldiers or who ever had been here had paid the price. Just then the Lieutenant’s voice came on the open frequency

"Sergeant Kane, we've sustained some injuries here. Secure a path to the rendezvous point and meet us there. Over."

“Affirmative, Team B on its way.”
The Staff Sergeant replied.
“Johannsen, Lee, form up on me and head for the main hallway, Lee take point, Hart rear guard move it medium and careful”

His fire team reassembled, with Sgt Lee on point Kane and Team B made good time to the link up finding nothing of any interest.
With the two teams for the moment one, Johannsen went to work on the wounded, as Kane made his way over to the Lt.

“What are your orders sir”.....

Subject: Sorry busy week

With the night over and no attack from the lighthouse it was once again time to move forward towards it.

“Ena are we ready or do we wait for something”

Tal was ready for a fight he had almost lost Dog to these people and though it was not so much revenge it was more a need to show those at the lighthouse the error of their ways.
Taking the lead for the moment he lead the party forward.

(Yeah short post been distracted somewhat this week sorry)

Fenris was a cortex hacker, had been pretty much his whole life, and he had made a good bit of change until he was busted at 15 by alliance forces, damn near at the start of the war as a matter of fact he thought with a grimace. No happy memories there as he spent most of his youth in jail, though one good thing he learned to make prison his education. He learned engines, security systems, and best of all how to fight for what he wanted. A hard lesson learned in pain and blood that you sometimes have to fight to survive.

With the end of the war Fenris or Wolf as he had been nicknamed in prison was processed and set free. But with his freedom came a whole new set of problems as his criminal record haunted him and as such he was forced to take whatever work he could get most of them illegal as hell.

He’d had his chances to better his life, heck Sam Dash had intro'd him to Tink, helped him scourge up the cash for a new ID, had even offered him a job with Captain Wyatt, but dumb A** him had turned it down.
Fenris could not help thinking to himself as he walked down the street of Frisco what had truly brought him here
you came here on promises of a paying job, a house and a new beginning. Well s**t that sure as hell had not worked out well had it. Christ your living with miners for frag’s sake

Now with the mine slowed to a crawl due to the embargo. Fenris was pretty much going nowhere, even though he did have a room, it was no where near the house he had come here for in the first place. But it was not all bad he supposed he was working doing repair work on the compressors for the mines for his employer Bailey Sachet, yet he so wanted away from here and the thrill of adventure he had never really known in his life.
And maybe with Kora’s heads up that Dash and Captain Wyatt were here on Frisco for business and needing a mechanic he could gain a second invite that this time he would not turn down. But no matter what he was getting off this rock hopefully in the next few days.

As he made his way towards the Frisco Port Authority a group of people caught his attention. The hat and coat looked like Captain Wyatt and he recognized Sam Dash even from this distance. He didn’t know the lady holding on to the captain’s arm but Kora had mentioned a lady doctor on board by the name of Willow. Damn Fenris thought she is a looker and could not help but wonder if she and the Cap’n were a hook up. It looked like they were close to the livery stables so he was sure he could catch up with them.

Not wanting to yell their names in a place like this he hurried to catch up....

OOC: As you can see pretty much just a recap of his background at the moment will post more once he catches up to the others.)
