Subject: An Annoying Concern

Ok first a thank you to Olan for getting the forth coming problem fixed and the Inn up and accessible once again. However this is not the first time I or other Innmates have had this show up when trying to log on.

Warning: mysql_connect(): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2) in /var/www/html/www.rdinn.net/dbconnect.php on line 137 Unable to connect to MySQL

My questions in regard to the above is what does this warning mean? Why does it keep reappearing and can we Innmates somehow help in stopping it from continuing. If I am overstepping my bounds, just recently returning to the Inn, then I apologize.

Please don't let the character sheet or the game itself scare you like Ody and Keeper have said i do pretty much all the hard stuff so all you need to do is RP and enjoy.

However if you feel "Arandor" Aldavather son of Talcanaiion Aldavather once known to the party as Talca is too much to play its ok we can just create a not so complecated character. Just let me know.

The only reason that Ulthok had a faery dragon in the first place was it was his magical familiar as he is a wizard and he just happened to be in the right place at the right time for him to save it.

As far as your weapons, yeah I can do that, I'll just chage the machete's to rapiers. I'll add an extra power to the bow and add a coiol dagger all named the way you want.

Again though your animal companion will be random ok.

Subject: A little bit of an oops

Dragon-soul, Ody just today reminded me that Talca did not return to the future with the rest of the party, however thats easily fixed. If you want to keep his name we can say he is the past Talca's son or a relative as he is afterall an Elf. Or you could rename him to something you'd like him to be called. Plus if there is any part of him you do not like we could edit the character easily. Example: Right now his main weapons are a pair of machete's. We could easily change them to swords or matching weapons of your choice. Kinda make him more your creation then someone else's if thats what you want. Or of course we can always just leave him as is and like I said rename him or say he is in some way related.

As far as having an animal companion yes I'll allow that however what you get is totally random and is determined by a die roll. Also so far for the most part the party's animal companions have been getting killed or have run off. Example Ody lost his magical faery dragon in a battle and hopes to resurecct her because she is magic and has a slight chance to be brought back. Normal animals don't get that chance as if they are brought back to life they come back as an undead creature. So yes you can can have a companion, but just be aware I treat them as I do any other character holding nothing back in the way of damage.

Let me know....

Yes a new character is perfectly ok Chessic. Dragon-soul taking over Talca is a good thing as he is pretty much playing a new character as he has not been part of the party very long.

Oh and as far as Alacrity joining Trilogy, as much as I'd love that, I don't think he has the time at present to do so. Though the door is always open.

Dragon-soul92 for more info on all the characters both open and played go here.

http://www.rdinn.net/view_topic.php?topicid=31

This is the link to the character thread. As for open characters I can tell you Rayne and Roan will be leaving the party on the restart. As far as open male characters that leaves only Talca the party's last Ranger. I'll be honest the party will need a Ranger and though not as simple to play as a straight class fighter for someone just entering AD&D it is still simpler then jumping right into a multi-classed character. All characters without players and open are flexible to be adjusted to meet a new players idea of what they want out of said character. You see something you don't like, no problem we just do an edit.

The other 2 characters are female and unless I get anyone willing to play a female character, Aliya will also leave the party and Valene will remain as an NPC. I think what is going to happen if I get 8 or at a minnium 7 players the party will be for the most part a new group of characters. Right now we have a total of 5 players, 3 old, Nimu, Nomad and Ody and 2 new, Chessic and you. Which is good as those 3 know the adventure quite well and can help get you 2 up to speed quickly.

Again see what other interest there is and we will go from there.

I honestly did not think I'd get this quick of a response. Thank you all its means alot.

Chessic you know your always welcome to play in Trilogy. I look forward to gaming with you if this goes forward though its looking that way.

Dragon-Soul92 first let me welcome you to the Inn, if you have not already seen, is a great place and full of adventure and I'm sure your time here will be a fun one. As to being a semi-novice to 2nd Edition no worries as I make all the rolls and have every book dealing with the rules either in copy or on file we should have no problems. In a way that also helps as my character creation rules have been modified from the Players Handbook to give you a better variety to create a character. Or if your worried and don't really want to go through the hours of character creation there are sure to be 2-3 open characters that are already in the party. OR you give me a base line and I can create a character for you. See a few good options.

Nomad, Nimu, Ody, I never doubted your return and honestly you Nomad were among the few who got me thinking of a restart.

Well I never really left lol but thanks Olan for that welcome back it does mean alot, however this means I will again be bugging you for my old job back.

Ok so far a good start lets see where it goes.........................

Ok innmates its me TannTalas, the 1 game playing Red Dragon Inn lurker. The last few months have been hard on my psyche with both my health going to shit and still sorta up for grabs, but I’m supposedly being told I’m getting better hmmmm?

Plus going from age 18 to age 52 almost overnight, realizing for maybe the first time that your mother is 85 and her memory don’t work as good anymore and that all familial responsibilities are now in your hands and yours alone, hit me very, very hard. I fell into a deep dark place, a place that would make a great dungeon run with monsters and end of life thoughts, that I’m still trying to climb out of. However as I am prone to do I deviate on matters best left alone as public information and get to the cooked human meat and gristle.

For you new innmates who don’t know me I am as stated above named TannTalas and I DM the longest running game on the Red Dragon Inn, 14 years now as of this past August, here at the Inn called The Trilogy War. Kinda cool huh

However as above when real life kicked my ass and made me grow up and my active number of players went to shit, I put the game on indefinite hold, really not planning on ever restarting it. Well I lied to myself, not the first time, just don’t tell my Mom, and thanks to a few people on here showing a little interest, I decided to see if there were actually Innmates, both new and old, that wanted to still play in a high lvl 2nd Edition AD&D game and would have fun doing so.

So you ask get to the good stuff what do I need to know about this game so I can decide if I’ll hitch up my horse and ride to an honorable fate. First some copied and pasted background game info for any newcomers.

I have run this Campaign in one form or another since I first created and started as a single table top adventure back in 1985 while still in the Army with many different table top groups and on the Inn since August of 2004.

The adventure is set in a world I created that I named Trilogy and is my version of the Lord of The Rings but is nothing like the books. Instead of the one ring the party must recover and destroy an Intelligent sword of great evil before it, like the ring in the films, falls back into it's creators hands. I use AD&D 2nd Edition rules with a few house rules and rules learned on the Inn thrown in for easier game play

My world consists of a main Continent and numerous Islands and Island chains. The main continent is of course called Trilogy while the biggest Island, the LAND OF EVIL!!, sorry couldn't help myself, is called Cirith Ungole. Now on a side note I must warn all players interested that a lot of the names of places, towns, mountains and so on come from the many novels I have read over my 52 years and some are my own as Trilogy is a highly populated world of Humans, Elves, Dwarves and other creatures so some plagiarism is to be expected, but not intentional. If you want a better look at my world a fully enlargeable map is on the first game page along with the world's history so feel free to enjoy.

Now normally I’d talk about character creation or taking over an existing character but I’m going to leave that till I see if there are enough interested players to even go that far. So looking for 8 players, I hope those 8 will again include Nimu, Nomad, Keeper and Ody, but if not I completely understand. If I get a reasonable number of players I’m looking at early/mid January to restart. So enough talk, more information on Trilogy is out there all you need to do is ask and I’ll point you in the right direction...

“Unf***ing beliveable” A deep breath and the big solo looks to the rest. “I’ll try to hook up with him, let’s meet back at that small diner we hooked up before.”

No,” Vegas shakes his head, “Casino, get the team to a safe place nearby. I’ll go get Ghlahn. Fixer believes that there’s a clock on this, so make it somewhere nearby and stay in radio contact.” Not waiting for confirmation, Vegas slaps his partner’s uninjured shoulder and turns to stride away leaving the remainder of the edgerunners waiting on Casino’s lead.

Look,” Blossom remarks as though the information she’s sharing doesn’t really matter. “Fixer’s probs right. Many companies rig these boxes with tracing hardware in case some of their employees decide to make a few bucks selling surplus. So, we need to find someplace secure where I can jack in and do my full data transfer. Give me a quarter and I’ll make this pony dance.”

Subway, maybe?” Echo steps up to the blonde solo so that their shoulders are touching. “We might be able to find a corner and give her some cover while she works. It’s close.”

His gaze fixed on Vegas’s back as his partner moved away, Casino had a sudden bad feeling in his gut that this would be the last time he saw his sinatra look-a-like friend and partner alive. Turning to the rest of the group he thought for a moment and spoke.

Ok, Echo suggests the subway, however we are carrying too much stolen stuff to blend in. I say we find a sewer entrace some where out of sight and use the area below it as temp base till we reconnect with Vegas and Ghlahn. Or any better idea’s? Blossom you ok with a dark deep sewer squat?”

This is all assuming no one says no, or comes up with a better idea and that by jacking in, Blossom does not need a electrical socket. If an idea is put forth will edit post)

Leading off in a casual stroll, Echo on the group’s six, the big solo looked for and finally found down one garbage filled alley a sewer entrace. With Fixer’s help they quickly had the sewer lid pried open.

Ok Blossom you, Echo and Bloodbank head down. Fixer and I will become homeless and watch the alley for ‘intruders’.”

With the three named headed down Casino quickly found a few cardboard boxes and enough trash to create himself a ‘homeless hobble’. Pulling his duster close to cover his face and weapons he sat / laid down and began to watch the alley’s two entrances.........

Sewers Somewhere Night City Integrate | Midcity | UrbanZone - March 9th, Day 3 (Sunday), 3:45 AM PST  Weather Conditions: High City (Thunderstorms, 15mph winds from the NE.) | Midcity (Rain, 10mph winds from the NE.) | Undercity (Fog and Rain, no winds.) ( Ok said nothing on what Nomad was doing up top with Fixer, as to leave the specifics to him.)

As Casino made ready to lead the way back out of the building he was joined at the door by Vegas.

I’m ok” He whispers over his shoulder to his Frank Sinatra lookalike partner. “No worries”

Solid,” Vegas flashes a smile. “After you.”

Once again leading the way Casino holstered his Armalite and brought the MPK/Grenade Launcher back into a forward position. A quick glance behind him to check everything was covered he quickly moved them back to the entrance window. Looking out into the night scanning the ally both ways then the fogged windows off the adjacent building finding nothing threatening or hindering to their exit

With his hand raised to pause the rest of the runners the big solo made his way through the window and out onto the wire framed gantry. Trusting Blossom has negated the buildings alarms he moves the group, Fixer behind Blossom, Bloodbank close behind. Echo and Vegas still bringing up the rear they easily make it to the street without any distractions.

On the street once more all sounds of the angry crowd have disappeared and silence greets the group once more.

Where’s Ghlahn, Vegas, any word from him?”

Stepping up next to him, Vegas pulled the walkie out of his pocket and brought it up to his mouth.

Ghlahn can you hear me. Come in Ghlahn”

It was then that the party realized that once again the same mistake had been made. A group member on his own without a way to communicate with them as all of the walkies, Casino’s, Fixer’s and Bloodbank’s relayed Vegas’s words.

What’s going on Did we honestly leave one of of the team without a means to communicate with the rest of us again?”

Looking over at Bloodbank, Casino eyes were wide in disbelieve not wanting to think on the possible ramification of a second time loss of communication.

Unfuckingbeliveable” A deep breath and a look to the rest. “I’ll try to hook up with him, lets meet back at that small diner we hooked up before”

With a second look at Bloodbank, a shake of his head, and with a nod to Vegas the big solo tucked his SMG under his coat and moved back towards where they had last seen Ghlahn…….

(If no one stops him he’ll head off to try and find the sniper)

Subject: Marvel Comics icon Stan Lee dies at 95

https://www.msn.com/en-us/movies/news/marvel-comics-legend-stan-lee-dies-at-95/ar-BBPCSj8?ocid=spartandhp

Were it not for Stan Lee, superheroes would be fewer in number, financially poorer, but better-adjusted people. The torch-bearing writer, editor, and longtime Marvel Comics head honcho has died He was 95

In a six-decade career as comic-dom’s reigning creative, Lee helped cast the template for the modern caped crusader, conjuring up hundreds of heroes who pulsed with his signature brand of bruised humanity — among them Spider-Man, the X-Men, the Fantastic Four, the Incredible Hulk, and Thor.

Lee’s innovations pushed comic books from the edge of obscurity to the cultural forefront as a legitimate American art form. And he helped usher in an era when superhero movies, including such global blockbusters as Marvel Studios’ Iron Man and Avengers franchises, rank as Hollywood’s most reliably bankable entertainment properties.

The son of working-class Jewish immigrants from Romania, Lee was born Stanley Martin Lieber in New York in 1922. He adopted his famous pseudonym while employed as a proofreader and text filler at Timely Comics, the pulp publisher that later became Marvel. “I felt someday I’d be writing the Great American Novel and I didn’t want to use my real name on these silly little comics,” said Lee, who later legally adopted his pen name.

In the early ’60s, when superheroes battled villainy as blandly indestructible paragons of virtue, the comics upstart grew disenchanted with such strait-laced characters as Superman, Batman, and the Flash, who were then flourishing at rival DC Comics. As a result, Lee strayed from accepted tropes to create an interlocking network of heroes with a kind of flawed humanity — a breakthrough dubbed the “Marvel revolution” that would ripple across popular culture for decades.

Unlike so many other caped crusaders of the time, Lee’s heroes tended to be misfits and wisecrackers, teenagers or regular Joes given to fits of pique, self-pity, rage, insecurity, and churlishness. Spider-Man’s Peter Parker, for example, was an orphaned nerd who — when not saving New York City from impending disaster — wrestled with unrequited love, schoolyard bullying, and negative cash flow. The X-Men, meanwhile, captured the zeitgeist as bona fide members of the counterculture. They were superpowered mutants intent on doing good but forced to maintain an uneasy peace with human beings who reviled the “uncanny” crime-fighters as a dangerous subspecies.

Another classic Lee antihero, Fantastic Four strongman the Thing, vanquished foes with superhuman strength and an impenetrable, rock-like hide but became beloved for the sum of his quirks: the character’s lingering unease with his monstrous condition and a gravelly New York brio Lee swiped from Jimmy Durante.

At the height of the civil rights movement, Lee helped introduce a wave of African-American characters including Nick Fury, Luke Cage (a.k.a. Power Man), Falcon, and Black Panther, thereby smashing an unofficial color barrier for major superheroes held in place since the dawn of comics. “Not to have diversity of different races and nationalities is ridiculous,” Lee told EW in June 2015. “Because the world is diverse. The more we can include everybody, the better it is.”

By the late ’60s, Marvel was selling 50 million comic books a year. In 1972, Lee became the company’s president and publisher. In conjunction with a number of illustrators — most notably freelance artists Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko — he perfected an assembly-line model of comic book production that came to be known as the Marvel Method. Lee would pump out characters and rough plotlines, then hand his unfinished ideas over to artists who fleshed out the action before handing the work back to Lee for his signature punchy dialogue. Comic book artist Gil Kane noted that Lee “wrote one book a night for 10 years. Not only was it easy for him, but it was the best thing that happened to comics.”

Although the Marvel Method evolved into the industry standard, it resulted in no small amount of bitterness. Kirby, whose pen strokes birthed such iconic heroes as Spider-Man, the Silver Surfer, and the X-Men, became estranged from Lee over money issues and creative credit, a controversy that has outlived both men and continues to rage in fanboy forums to this day. “I came up with the Fantastic Four. I came up with Thor,” Kirby said in a 1991 interview with The Comics Journal. “Whatever it took to sell a [comic] book, I came up with. Stan Lee has never been editorial-minded. It wasn’t possible for a man like Stan Lee to come up with new things.”

In his later career, Lee became known for his P.T. Barnum-like hucksterism and tireless self-promotion, turning up across the media landscape to conjecture (often erroneously) about Marvel movie projects. He even launched a signature cologne in 2013. But despite his inextricable link to Marvel for over half a century, Lee never maintained ownership rights to the characters. So when Marvel Entertainment was sold to Disney for $4.2 billion in 2009, the man once known as “Mr. Marvel” didn’t see a penny of profit. “I was always a Marvel employee, a writer for hire, and, later, part of the management,” he told Playboy in 2014. “Marvel always owned the rights to these characters. If I owned them, I probably wouldn’t be talking to you right now.”

Lee received the National Medal of Arts and the National Humanities Medal from President George W. Bush in 2008 and was inducted into the comics industry’s Jack Kirby Hall of Fame and Will Eisner Award Hall of Fame.

In recent years, Lee maintained his cultural presence operating Pow! Entertainment, a multimedia company that develops and licenses film, television, animation, and video game properties, and serving as one of the partners of Los Angeles Comic Con. (Lee sold Pow to Hong Kong-based Camsing International in 2017 and ended his relationship with L.A. Comic Con in 2018.) He also made regular cameo appearances in Marvel-produced films.

For seven decades, Lee was married to Joan Boocock Lee, an English native and onetime hat model. “She was the girl I had been drawing all my life,” Lee would say of his wife. The Lees had two children: Joan Celia, also known as “J.C.”, who was born in 1950, and Jan, who died days after her birth in 1953. Joan Boocock Lee preceded her husband in death in 2017.

Stan Lee was not untouched by turmoil or controversy in later life. In January [2018], he was reportedly accused of sexual harassment by employees of a nursing company. A lawyer representing Lee “categorically” denied the allegations, calling them “false and despicable.”

In March [2018], TMZ reported that Lee contacted police after he noticed $1.4 million missing from his bank account. Around the same time, he revealed in a video addressed to fans that he had been battling pneumonia, which caused him to cancel several public appearances.

A month later, a report in The Hollywood Reporter detailed strained relationships and infighting between Lee, daughter J.C., and other members of his inner circle. Lee also sued his former manager for allegedly duping him out of millions of dollars.

In his video to fans in March, Lee appeared sanguine. “I want you all to know I’m thinking of you,” he said. “I want you to know that I still love you all. And I think that Marvel and Spidey and I had the best group of fans that any group in the world ever had, and I sure appreciate it.”

As the big solo moved last through the window he knew his combo MPK would be more hindrance then help, so he fashioned it into its vest clips and out of the way. Instead he drew his right hand Armalite settling it into the smartgun groves. With its targeting system and his upgraded reflexes all merged together Casino felt ready……….

The group having gained entry now did what each was here for. Fixer tackled the the card scanner which was just a standard IR reader. Within seconds the door was unlocked. As Vegas moved to push past Fixer, Casino out of the corner of his eye noticed Bloodbank move off to look down farther down the hallway. The solo could only trust in the medics experience that he would not to do anything stupid.

Vegas waits just long enough for the Techie to move aside before pushing the door open a crack and peering inside. Nodding his head, he proceeds inside the room and steps aside to hold the door open for the others. Echo follows closely behind and peels away from him to the opposite side so as to provide additional cover.

As Casino stood watch as the rest moved past him, he noted that Blossom immediately dropped into the offices black generic chair. Drawing out another interface cable the little Asian attached one end to the port in her right wrist and the other end in the magnetic slot on the desktop machine.

His head still moving and watching the parties ‘six’ so to speak, the big solo caught Vegas looking at him with a seemingly worried look. A quick smile and a nod of his head he tried to reassure his partner he was run focused and not yearning over Echo to much. No matter his attraction to her, the run and his partner, hell his family, would not need to worry about him being too distracted. There would be enough time after this job to see what his feelings for Echo really were, and hers for him, and how they would play out.

Got it,” Blossom whispers excitedly. “Let’s blow this joint.”

You don’t need to tell me twice,” Vegas comments just as quietly. “Grab a few of those computer boxes and be quick about it. That Charlie was onto something when he gave us the idea.”

As Casino made ready to lead the way back out of the building he was joined at the door by Vegas.

I’m ok” He whispered over his shoulder to his Frank Sinatra lookalike partner. “No worries”

With Blossom in the process of unplugging the device she’d just plugged herself into and Echo moving to the next cubicle to do the same. It was only a matter of seconds until they would be headed back out. Casino was ready…...

I believe these are not true Innmates as they all have websites that lead to Vietnamese sites. There are more such "innmates" but these are from the last few days.

It’s done,”

Blossom quips, rising to her full five foot five inches and unplugging the spliced cable from her wrist.

We’re solid. I’m ghosting the system at the source so we don’t need to worry about sound or motion. Now, let’s get to the human resource computer.”

With that statement Casino went on a higher state of alert if that was possible knowing it was about to get more ‘exciting’. Still in the background he continued to listen as the rest spoke of their next actions.

Great work, sugarplum,”

Vegas smiles with approval. quietly nodding his head,

Let’s still try to keep quiet. Don’t know what onsite security they have here.”

"Blossom,"

Bloodbank breaks in, his voice just barely above a whisper.

"Do you need the HR computer specifically?"

As the medtech cleared his throat, Casino could tell he and the medtech both were very self conscious of just how little they both knew in this particular area.

"Wouldn't any computer get you... uhmm, in?"

It depends on whether they have the HR database locked within its own datafortress,”

The little Asian woman replies, dropping her voice to a whisper.

We can always attempt the first computer we come across.”

Bloodbank nods and preps himself to follow the others inside.

Fixer looks at Blossom and congratulates her,

"Nice work. I'm glad your on the team. If there is a time limit here or some other risk, let us know."

He looks up at the big Crooner and adds,

"And like the singer here said, keep your eye out for on-site security. Let’s go in and move quickly but quietly. Remember we still have another team on our heels and a kid who could be about to die somewhere."

Once inside, Vegas and Echo lead the team down the hall to the first door. One with a handgun at ready, the other with her strange submachine gun. The others trail behind with Casino bringing up the rear, watching the window for any sign from across the alley that they have been compromised.

As the big solo moved last through the window he knew his combo MPK would be more hinderance then help, so he fashioned it into its vest clips and out of the way. Outside the Upstairs Downstairs Inc. Building Ladder Platform | Night City Integrate | Midcity | UrbanZone - March 9th, Day 3 (Sunday), 1:38 AM PST Weather Conditions: High City (Thunderstorms, 15mph winds from the NE.) | Midcity (Rain, 10mph winds from the NE.) | Undercity (Fog and Rain, no winds.) Air Quality Index: High City = 25 | Midcity = 42 | Undercity = 75 (masks required)

Waiting quietly Casino made sure to remain alert, his eyes always moving. As the last one into the building he was also the closet to the window and kept watch on what could easily be the entry groups only way out.

Standing and watching the rest apply skills Casino could only read about in a book he kept guard. His best skill was watching and cancaling threats. He was a bruiser, muscle, a hired gun, his only real skill killing people as he had shown in the hospital. Out numbered the big solo had still come out on top with no new injuries his tech and skill saving his life once more. His only real frends a resturaunt owner and Vegas no one else did he trust or consider such, yet here he was starting to fall for some goddamn kid. A quick glance at her showed her almost teenager looks though the H&K MP2020 heavy submachine gun she held kinda told a different story.

His attention was slowly drawn to the sounds of the building riot outside gaining intensity and his enhanced hearing picked up the sounds of arriving police and a voice addressing the crowd through a microphone.

*(( I assume I get this cyber hearing through my Ranged Combat Edgerunner Package))

== This is Marcom Security. You have ten seconds to begin dispersing before we take extreme action. Starting now. Ten… nine… eight… ==

We need to hurry it up the police have arrived out front to disperse the crowd”

Great work, sugarplum,” Vegas smiles with approval but doesn’t raise his voice to the decibel that the netrunner just used. Still speaking quietly, he gives a nod to Echo and says, “Let’s still try to keep quiet. Don’t know what onsite security they have here.”

A nod to Vegas to let him know he was ready Casino took his spot as the last man and covered the group’s six……….
