Crow really had no intention or need to fight the undead Cat and her mouse minions for a bunch of books especially with only 5 arrows. However the choice was taken out of his hands as Gamard handed the Ranger his quarterstaff.

"Friend Crow! You May Use My Quarterstaff to Dispatch the Unliving! By 'Turning Undead', They May Cower When They Run Out of Space to Flee in Yon Room!"

“Right, whatever you say Cleric” as he grabbed the quarterstaff and readied it. Though not very good with blunt weapons he could still swing it and if lucky actually hit something with it. So he stood where asked and prepared himself to swing and miss as the two party Clerics put their hands together and began to pray.

I left my post open if I get the time to return and gave a possible storyline to do so with his Mother dying from black magic.

Sorry Hammer just got to much going on right now and as I told you in PM I may have to in the end drop Alacrity's Putnam also.

Lets see how it goes till after the holidays and I may be able to return. I will be lurking for sure

Crow was happy with his share of the loot they had found in the Turtle Dragons lair and was even happier they had not had to fight it. He was sure, even with the numbers on their side, they would have lost many of the party if not the whole of it. However now he was off to spend it on better equipment and maybe a weapon or two, mayhap a better bow.

However as all things sometimes go plans change in an insistent and that was the case this day as Crow heard his named called.

“Maithias”

Turning to the sound Crow saw a young looking but well known female Elf approaching. Dressed in leather baring sword and bow she was no fair maiden yet very beautiful to behold.

“What do you do here Sea’Leete”

“I bring word from your father. Your Mother lies dying and he wishes you to return home at once with me”

“Mother?” Crow replied shocked. When he had left to seek adventure she had been healthy and happy but now she was dying. “How can this be”

“Your Father fears black magic my lord”

“Quiet your tongue, you know better then to call me that here”

“My apologies Maithias”

As he stood there hesitating he knew in the end he had no choice if Mother was indeed dying from black magic as his father feared it was up to him as first born to return with Sea’Leeta. Writing a quick note on a piece of parchment he caught the first boy to cross before him.

“You boy here is 5 gold, please take this note to one Jaufre Vanvoie, or one Tohmas Goodwood both can be found at the Toothless Dragon Tavern in the employ of Mad Dog Muldoon.”

With the note sent telling of his departure to the rest of the party, Crow gathered his gear and followed the female Elf to a pair of horses. With a last look behind him at the City of Heristat he turned his horse North and was gone.

As JC listened to the negoations between Jon and Badger he kept on alert. He may have been taking advantage of the tuna salad sandwiches but he was far from distracted. He was paying close as Badger continued his spiel.

"I'm sorry but you all seem to be working for a misconception. Now if anyone knew who the Princess was, i'd guess one of the ladies, not you captain. I collect trading card myself but whatever oils your chain. I'm asking you to transport Ms Fairchild her two lackeys and these two. I ain't asking you to throw them a gorram teaparty! You don¡¯t need special foods or rations or clean sheet or pretty dollies on the seats. She likes the charity work on the rim, so she can handle roughing it for awhile. In fact, her daddy would be mighty appreciative of her living like the other half because as I understand it, she's been a bit of a prat about the wedding.¡± Badger sighed dramatically, You have these two for extra security. Introduce yourself boys."

"I'm Rick Simon and that there is my brother AJ. Don't you be fussing Captain, we can handle things as they come. The brother offers a winning smile and a handshake but doesn't comment further. We can bunk together or swing on hammocks in the bay if necessary.

Interesting JC thought to himself as he appraised Badgers two 'sec guards' As he looked them over something did not feel right about the two brothers to him yet he was unsure what that something was. Either they are so good that they are can act casual, or they are too casual to be professional. Either way was clearly trouble, if they took this run they would bear watching. Maybe he could find a way to find out which they actually were.

Badger cleared his throat noisily bringing JC's attention back to the negoations

°Right. The drop is late tonight, not tomorrow am. The idea here is to avoid the press getting wind of The Princess leaving, so her father wants her traveling in-cog-neat-toes. No one would suspect a high flaunting princess on a gar.. ship like yours. Get the picture? Listen. You can't handle the job or your ship is too delicate for five passengers then fine. There an Arrowhead courier in port, I can use them. Don't want to bcause the captain is a wang ba dan and I wanted to give you a chance to make a name. Get established, even hobnob with some bigwigs that could make your business. Kinda guy I am, see? But you can walk away, Guai ma jiao! if you'd like and I will let my people know that you are not quite in my league for jobs. Understand?

Lao yeh!.(1) The Gunfighter thanks to his days with the Tong knew what Badger meant by his use of the term "not in his league".If they screwed this up getting a job in this part, or really any part of the Black once word got out would be worse then having the Wuh duh ma huh ta duh fung-kwong duh wai-shung doh as family. (2)

Turning to face Badger JC spoke for the first time with an edge in his voice.

"I can handle the security Captain, I certainly wouldn't want Mr. Badger here to think we can't handle it."

(1) Oh Shit!
(2) Holy mother of God and all her wacky nephews

As Wolf sat in the back of the shuttle on its short hop to the Atmo Processor, Captain Wyatt flying, he was quiet as the captain fired up the engines. Within moments Wyatt had disengaged the docking clamps and started lifting the smaller vessel from its docking collar on Roc's side. The shuttle rose forty-feet into the air, and Wolf was pressed by the g-forces back into the cushioned seat.

The ship mechanic was anxious to get back to the Processor to unclamp the needed turbine and haul it back to the ship and finally hopefully fix the Rocinate‘s engine. However that plan for the moment was put on hold as Willow called from ship to shuttle. Though Wolf could only hear one side of the conversation he got the impression that it was not good.

"I'm in the shuttle with Wolf. We've just left Roc. Can this wait?"

(Silence)

"Well, tell me what's what then, Sheh Sheh."

(More silence)

"Alright, Mei Mei," Wolf at this point could feel the Captain turning the shuttle about and watched as he began to once again punch in the docking codes, only this time in reverse.
"I'm heading back now."

Though he wanted to ask WTF was going on he could tell by the captain’s quiet urgency that he did not want to relay that information just yet. Then they were re-docked and moving inside the Rocinante, Wolf following Wyatt to the engine room. What Wolf found there besides Miss Willow and Trish did not sit very well. A big sniff and Wolf’s eyes fell onto the compression coil or lack of it. Now except a whole lot of dust the coil was gone.

“Lao tyen, boo”(1) Wolf swore as he moved to his knees for a closer look he knew they were screwed. Thinking quick he counted down the possible places to score a new coil.

Ship’s stores = No
ASREV = No
Atmo Processor = No
A monkey’s a** = No

“Tzao-gao!”(2) Wolf muttered under his breath as he realized just how screwed they really were. Even if they could repair the ships turbine this was beyond his ability to fix without a coil and as far as he knew there were no such coils on planet. Unless there was

As he had been focused on the missing coil and how to fix it he had not been really listening to the conversation behind him. However as Wyatt started to it finish up his words caught Wolf’s attention.

“One last thing, I need you t’ speak with Matherson, Mei Mei. Let him know t’ be careful in his search for the device jammin’ our signal. Whoever’s got it ‘as likely as not is the one that’s done this fine job o’ ship surgery.”

Pointing at the dust, Captain Sung met the eyes of each of them for a moment. “If I were a betting man, I’d lay down odds tha’ this here patch o’ moondust is our missin’ coil, an’ that means whoever our mystery surgeon is likely has some sort o’ tech capable o’ disintegratin’ any amounts o’ who knows what. An’ that just seems like a helluvah way t’ die.”

“Captain that’s not possible there’s nothing that can vaporize objects like this. Maybe once on the earth that was but not now. Whatever this dust is I don’t think it’s the coil, I think whoever did this has the coil or hid it.”

Wyatt was quiet as Wolf stood up and dusted himself off of the mysterious dust, then came to a decisson.

“Secure the engine room. Ain’t no one but crew t’ get inside, dohn ma?”

With that Wolf followed Wyatt out of the engine room and back to the shuttle. As they boarded the transport once more Wolf could not help thinking to himself.

Rt now Hammer is in the lead for this early part of the day with 5 Olan with 4 and Ody Grugg and myself with 3 each. However as I was the only one to pick Baltimore if the Ravens win, it could be 4 for me too. Except for Ody's Arizona pick over Houston we all picked the same for the rest of the day.

As JC followed Captain Jon to this job interview he kept his eyes open all around, his human hand never far from the Avenger at his side. As they reached the door leading to this Badgers office they were met by large Chinese man asking to see the four’s ID. Though hesitant to give his up a quick look from Brown and JC did so and watched as the man checked a clipboard in his hand. Expecting to have to give up his guns JC was totally taken by surprise as he showed them the way in without so much as a pat down or gun check. As they moved through the tunnels JC understood why, as they passed numerous armed guards and built in flash doors.

However finally they reached where the four of them were headed and shown into a room that JC would never have thought of as a mobsters office. Before them they found was a man standing leaning on a desk. Though not a tall man as men go he was wearing a tweed suit a bowler style hat and appeared to be completely unarmed. His smile though inviting was set off by his eyes, eyes though they looked everyone over lingered most on JC. As their eyes met and each held the others gaze the Gunfighter got the feeling that this Badger may have seen him before and was trying to remember. However as far as JC could remember he personally had never had any contact with this one while in The White Tiger Tong. Holding the man’s gaze till he looked away first JC did a quick scan of the room gauging possible escape routes, cover and obstcles to his gun fire if needed. Seeing the table full of sandwiches, tuna having been easily ID by Angela, he reached for a pair using his right arm. Though he had used his gun hand he was ready to drop the sandwiches fast if needed as he brought them to his mouth he listened without saying a word.

“Right. The Job. The job involves chaufferin’ the stepdaughter of some well-to-do land baron to her wedding aboard a luxury cruise liner, the Rim’s Dream. The girl’s name is Lilianna Fairchild. Job is simple—deliver the girl to the cruise liner in time for her wedding which is 5 days from now. Actually, It will be the girl, her bodyguard, and a wedding planner. As well, these two,” he points a finger at the two young men, “Will be joining you in order to complete a business transaction of my own. I can’t hand over a simpler job. Course, it don’t pay much, 20 a head per day but you do this right by me and, well you be in my good book and there be people that would kill to be there.” he says with a modest chuckle.

Badger pulls a folded piece of paper off his desk and hands it to the Captain.

“That’s the coordinates of the liner, five days good enough for you?”

Still keeping quiet JC watched Badger as he explained the job. Though not a medical degreed expert at reading people’s expressions or body language, he had remained alive being better then most. As Badger talked, JC watched, trying to get a read on this gangster.

(Ok trying to read his body language, his eyes sound of his voice, anything that could give me a possible read on him.)

BACKPOST

Crow was happily learning more about Ginger and Mary-Ann’s ‘fascination’ with elves in his cabin on the ship Minnow when things took a turn for the worst. Though it had been rocky sailing for the better part of the day it seemed as if suddenly the ship was being tossed as if a piece of paper in a high wind. As Crow tried to get dressed and gather his gear, he only managed to get his armor on before the ship was torn in two and into the water he and the two very undressed ladies went.

After floating and swimming in the water trying to stay afloat he finally found himself on this island along with five others from the Minnow, unfortunately none of them Ginger or Mary-Ann. After greetings and thanks to the gods for sparing their lives the next few hours the six searched and took what they could from among the wreckage. Crow earning himself a wet bow and five lowly wet arrows. Not very much to survive with but that was for another day as the Elf was thank full to be just alive. Though none of the other survivors found much more then he, they had found within a shallow depression at the center of the island a stone door.

During the course of the next few minutes the discussion of exploring this door and who would be leader was brought up and continued without Crow. The Elf Ranger had no desire to be leader other then scouting and as such could not care less who the leader would be. In the end Crow would listen mostly to himself his instincts and training and whoever the leader became as long as it matched his own thing. So he remained quiet as the rest of this new group discussed things he had no interest in. Only when he was directly approached did he responded.

"I be willin' to take point, if'n you be willin' to guard the rear, Syl You bein' the best armed to help any position, 'specially bein' most o' the others are short enough to shoot over."

“Crow, just Crow and I shall call you Mal, but not Captain. My bow is useless until we can get it dry so you may lead for now. I am used to working on my own so don’t be expecting me to wait for orders though.”

THE PRESENT

The black door after a cautious inspection was deemed unlocked, yet with no handle or way to hold. However as soon as the Fighter Mal touched it they found themselves drawn through the darkness no longer in a stairway but a room.

The room was dark green. The walls covered in gold fabric wall hangings and paintings of wilderness landscapes. A watermelon shaped metal object moving back and forth across the floor in a regular pattern with two stubby legs and feet but no head or arms. Against one wall a simple oak table next to a large corner cabinet of dull metal was placed. On the oak table a wooden cage smashed to pieces. In the other corner the six could see was a wooden closet door. A mirror on the opposite wall could be seen with a very heavy filigreed frame of unfamiliar metals. Two comfortable sofas and two chairs were arranged in front of a fireplace which glows with a fire and gives off a lovely warmth. Across from the fireplace is what looks like a pitch-black doorway, and to the right a sort of hallway leading to yet another black opening. In the hallway as before stood another wooden door.

As Crow thought this Dudley moved towards the fire and warmth as Crow himself had meant to do However as soon as the Cidal cleric moved towards the fire, the silver oval shaped thing spun and turns towards him, moving at speed, or as much speed as its stubby legs could move. But, suddenly, a bright light flashed from the top of the thing and engulfs Dudley in its ray.

*BZZZZZZZZSHHHHH*

The light engulfed him then disappeared leaving Dudley very clean and dry. His clothes, his hair, even the makeshift club he carried is now spotlessly clean. With Dudley dry the silver oval turned and started to move toward the party and the puddle that were forming underneath each. Within moments all six were dry, cleaned, and what small manner of gear they had also very dry. Crow could not help see the usefulness of this cleaning as he was much happier in dry clothing rather then wet. Now nice and dry the Syl Ranger decided to do what he did best… Scout.

He begin to do a perimeter check of the room. The Closet door was large, oak and bound in steel. The door had no lock on it and when Crow listened closely to it, he heard nothing that sounded like movement or mage. As Dudley was putting out the food, the ranger glanced at the cage but could only figure it was for a small animal like a cat or rodent - and probably for travel. Whatever destroyed it, broke out from within judging by the wreckage.

The cabinet in the corner was a solid construction of metal and was locked. Crow could see through the frosted glass that within were decanters and bottles - perhaps even a few glasses. "If you are looking for spirits for the feast." he said aloud, "I think there are some in here, though the door is locked. I can force it but that may break whatever is inside."

The black openings in the room were a caution to Crow. Seeing what had happened with the door that had brought them here he was not one to be careless. He picked up a piece of the cage and gently poked the blackness. The piece was swallowed up and the blackness seemed to draw it in - magic portal no doubt.

The final wooden door down the hallway was without a lock and Crow listened carefully. He heard something faint. Could be the wind, or the animal that escaped the cage or something making a low faint moaning. Not sure of its exact cause he at once brought it to the others attention. Then as the talk turned to more doors then food Crow spoke once more.

“I think before we go through any doors or portals we should eat. There be no telling what we will find behind them. So if there is danger let us not let hunger defeat us.”

With that Crow also waited to see what portion they each would receive.

Crow was glad that magic and not arrow or melee had saved the day once more. The Elf had not really wanted a fight off of land. Make no mistake he would fight but preferred solid footing rather then a tossing deck.

For now he would wait till they reached land and a friendly harbor once more.
