Maximus was alive, how he had managed that with everything they had encountered and his rescue of Jal was way beyond him at present.
But he was alive and his fellow party members and Jal needed him now more then ever.

With a flying girl, a tough bas***d of a green seemingly kicking Arien’s butt, and now on top of all that yet more Thri-Kreen warriors, could this day get any worse.

Without the ability to fly like Jal or Adrian and at the moment not close enough to help the Knight, Maximus did the only thing he could do, and attacked the new enemies before him. Picking as his target the nearest of the mantis creatures, be it Ankhag or Mantis man.
With a loud cry, sword raised and shield ready the large ex-gladiator attacked once more....

(OOC: Ok in Brom's above post when he says he is headed to help Adrien does he mean Ad's character of Adrian or Olan's character of Arien?? I think he means Olan but want to be sure.)

“We need a parking garage, or someplace dark an’ out of the way if we’re to get a vehicle, Croaker.”

Bull’s Eye stood against the onslaught of the storm as though it didn’t rage about him, solid, determined, and looking every bit the hardened criminal.

“Hey, you. Lightnin’ was it? You got any tools that can hijack us a car, or truck?”

“Huh?” Lightning turned to look at the shorter man with raised eyebrows. “Oh, sure. Shouldn’t be a problem.”

“All right, then,” Bull’s Eye looked back at Croaker. “Well? You’re the councilman. Where to?”

“Well like you said Bulls Eye we need wheels first thing, Lighting you seem the man to get us a car so know any out of the way used car lots or something where, another van best thing, won’t come up missing too fast. Or we can do a best of and walk around looking for something around here..
Next thing after that is a new place to stay as our time is pretty much up with your buds Bulls Eye. From there once we get a location from Spiff or Scribe we can plan our recon and see what equipment we have to work with. The only place I can come up with is my apartment but if 'they' know who we are that’s a big risk. MDK, you and Lighting are new to this gathering and ‘they’ may not know yet of your involvement, so do eithier of you have any idea’s?”

As Fenris followed Wyatt up the ramp of the Rocinante it was hard to miss Linda Kovak as she came crying out of the loading bay. As he watched her run the Captain turned to him and asked.

“You know who that water fountain was, an’ what business she might’ve had on my ship?”

“I’m pretty sure that was Linda Kovak. She is one of three triplets so can’t be sure but she the one always trying to get herself off planet. Lulu can’t see without them bottle bottoms of hers and I don’t think Lulu ever cried or been sad in her life. Ain’t her nature. Linda was probably trying to convince one of yours to take her away and I’m guessing it didn’t work. Cap’n I know this may not be the right time but Linda’s not the bad sort and she wants a better one and trust me boss life here ain’t no picnic so maybe we can give her a lift off this rock. At least to our next planet fall I can find her maybe a clean up job in the engine room. Your call Cap’n.”

With a shake of his head, the captain continued on to Rocinante and proceeded inside. Wyatt stopped at the back door, hand on the access panel and again turned to the new mecanic

“Got a description of the Ludlow that Miss Brigit took down, Wolf?”

Fenris could tell no matter what Wyatt’s thoughts on the Kovak girl Fenris could tell by his tone he was all business now
Fenris told him no uncertain terms just what he knew and then added another thought.

“Cap’n there is one thing I’m not sure if you know this but Ernest Ludlow has a brother on planet by the name of Ethan – just as bad and nearly as ugly as the first. They are really a pair the two of them if everything rumored of them is true. They don’t have very many enemies…At least living enemies.”

With the last of the what Fenris thought was any needed info he followed Willow and Wyatt into the Rocinante for the first time.

(OOC: Ok Al as for Fenris’s further actions once inside the ship refer if needed to my other post before this one.)

Subject: A last Goodbye...........

Malius had kept himself out of the village for more reasons then scouting were he to be honest with himself. The murder of a full village of his race had hit the Sylvari Ranger hard, harder then anything, but one goodbye, then had before. The remembered pain from that time haunting him again he had remained in the woods till everything was done.

Only when the time for the funeral rites had come and passed, the Sylvari from the other surrounding towns had finally left, did Malius move to rejoin the rest of the party once more. Trying not to look at the others of the party, not willing to show his true feelings, he nonetheless caught the stern look from Geim. But nothing prepared him for the dwarf’s words a few moments later.

“Seems us Khords and this one young Sylvari lass were the only ones to take care of the dead. Did you hire us to do this job and somehow I missed knowing about it? His eyes went to Draven, Malius, and Alyssia. Draven, one can never count of you unless whatever it is pleases you. I expected no more. It seems common sense have deserted you as well."

Geim rounds on Malius next, his heated words unstopped. "But you Malius, I expected more from you. These were your people and you disappeared and left the whole burden on a young lass who cried her eyes out silently every time she had to pick up a child and carry them out to the wagon. She took time for find each one a toy and wrapped whatever it was up in blankets with them. You should have been there, they were your people.”

As the Ranger watched Geim and his fellow Khords walk away he caught the look of sadness in Elessarae eyes as she looked to him and then turned away to follow the rest. Malius could only assume it was due to his lack of help burying the dead and did not move after her to explain. That night sleep did not come easy in Malius mind his feelings raged between guilt and the horror of the way the town’s folk died, yet somewhere in the night he finally slept a decision made.

The next morning the Ranger was gone two notes and all money and items given to him by Granite left behind. The first note was addressed to all the second only to Elessarae.

The first read

My fellow party members it is with a tormented mind I must for a time leave you to seek guidance to ease the sickness in my soul and the pain in my heart after the carnage I have witnessed these past days. I plan to rejoin you again one day, but when I cannot say, so stay safe and watch over each other. Goodbye for now Malius Darkblade.

The second read

I know that I have let both you and the dead Sylvari of the town down by not being strong enough to bury them. I once watched as they buried she who I thought was the love of my heart and I could not do so again. For though these people were unknown to me yet they were of our race and the pain of their passing was yet great. Though I have only known you a short time I feel the weight of something inside me, feelings perhaps of something I have not felt in a long time. Whether this be true or more fantasy I have a need to know so I promise, if only to you, that I shall return to find out. Till then follow who you are and stay strong.
Malius

(OOC: Ok due to RL time constraints I have to take a temporary LOA. But look for Malius to return hopefully before next year. Till then happy gaming and know that I will be lurking..)

"You heard the Lt," Kane growls as he readies the SAW. "Move out. Lee take point, Pearson take the rear, Johannsen your third." Pausing the big man radioed the Rangers back in the observatory.

"Hatherford, its Kane, status report."

"Boring as a church house on Friday night, sir," came the response.

“Keep your com open and notify me the minute your status changes. Kane out.”

As Kane and the three troopers moved quickly on high alert through the rest of the level they finally came to the base’s main laboratory. As they entered Kane gave his next orders.

“Lee take right, I got left, Johannsen, Pearson cover us and the door.”

They found it to big a large room, larger even than the observatory, and shaped very much like a large circle cut in half and stuck onto the side of the base. Kane could see that various tables and workbenches were scattered in haphazard locations around the area almost as if abandoned in a hurry. Yet what stood at the center of the room was too the Staff Sergeant even more strange.

For the entire room was dominated by a huge machine supporting several enormous rotating rings of different radii. Complex metallic rings slowly gyrating and turning around a shimmering center of bluish white energy. A shimmering blue aura surrounds the entire device, and the field seems to randomly expand and contract.

Staring at the device Kane could fill the pull of it as it seemed to play tricks on his eyes - images appearing superimposed upon one another, the edges and contours of the device seeming to Kane to run off at impossible angles. The entire room lit by the eerie blue glow emanating from the machine gave it the look of as if out of a Sci-Fi movie.

The Staff Sergeants gaze was then drawn to scattered around the machine are numerous shell casings, as well as a splintered axe. Judging by the damage to the surrounding walls, it appears that several grenades (or some other explosive) have been detonated here. The machine appears undamaged, but the rest of the laboratory equipment is in ruins.

Of all the things Kane had expected it was certainly not this.

It was then that Lee let a whistle of surprise escape his lips.

“Any bets on whether or not this is the cause of this whole mess,” He said looking back as the others came into the room. He didn’t expect any takers.

“Looks like a hell of a firefight happened here,” Lee added gesturing with his carbine at all the spent casings and the damage to the room. Turning to look at Kane he kept a close eye out for trouble while he waited on Sgt Kane to give new orders.

Inga was the last to move in standing out the door and keeping watch. Inside was some weird device surrounded with a blue glow.

"That's a negative, Sgt Lee" Inga responded to the question. "That blue glow sure looks like what we went through outside to get to this place.”

“Your right Doc, I need to let the Lt know about this ASAP.” Kane told her as he did just that.

Turning slightly away he clicked his com to the Lt’s private channel and called a quick status report…

“Lt its Kane we have reached the Main Lab and its status is as follows”

A brief overview to the Lt given he awaited the Lt’s next command.....

Subject: Oan Mkoll

REMEMBERING...

Oan Mkoll was dreaming, having a nightmare, having a vision call it what you like but more then anything as he slept he was remembering Gereon. A planet of corruption, horror and things of Chaos more real then anything the mind could comprehend. Glyf’s, Wirewolves, Foragers to name but a few of the monsters that feed upon the once Imperial world, at the time totally under the auspex of Chaos. Having volunteered to go on the suicide mission with the Colonel/Commissar to kill the traitor Lord General Sturm living through the next year and a half on planet was more curse then blessing, the nightmares very real. With the General dead by his hand, and a way off planet found he lived to remember, though Mkvenner, his best friend had stayed behind to continue the fight. As he slept he remembered those that had returned with him and the Colonel/Commissar.

Major Rawne second in command, once his hatred of the Colonel/Commissar had almost burnt him alive inside but since Gereon was no more.
Lt Murtan Feygor, he of the rasping voice thanks to the augmented larynx in his
corded throat, the legacy of an old war wound.
Hlaine Larkin, team sniper, scout, thought mentally unhinged at the missions start, now seemingly sane after living through the insanity of Gereon.
Eszrah ap Niht, or Eszrah Night as they had all come to know the Untille partisan, the Colonel/Commissar’s self appointed bodyguard.
Sgt Tona Criid one of his scouts beautiful, deadly with any type of blade, but married to another Tanith.
Mach Bonin, the darkly-handsome and preternaturally fortunate scout-trooper. Bonin had saved them all too many times to count psyker no, but close.
Sgt Ceglan Varl, team heavy weapons, his battered augmented shoulder allowing great strength, he of the plasma cannon.
Flame-trooper Aongus Brostin, thuggish and hairy, a god of fire and flames a desire to burn anything Chaotic living inside the huge trooper.
Lastly Young Dughan Beltayn a rookie trooper who had somehow gained the respect of all for volunteering then living through the horrors of the void.

As he slept his mind wondered on returning to the beginning of the mission and his first meeting of their contact, a resistance fighter of the planet’s old PDF… As he slept he remembered…………….

Landerson had been told by the Colonel that the off worlders from the Sabbat Worlds crusade fleet would be here at the factory before him at this time, but he saw no one and no sign that they had successfully reached here. Why were they here on the world of Gereon, a totally uncontested, except by a small resistance force, Chao’s world abandoned long ago by the Imperium. As he watched a Rat scurried past him only a hands space away unafraid of anyone or anything.

Apart from the foragers, there were rats everywhere. Everywhere in the Imperium, Landerson imagined. The starships of Holy Terra had spread many things across the galaxy
– faith, colonists, technology, civilization, war – but nothing so comprehensively or so surely as the indomitable Rattus Rattus. Before the Intercession, he had heard learned men joke that the Imperium was actually forged by rats, and humans were just along for the ride. On some worlds, the accidentally imported rat had overmastered all other life forms. On other worlds, they had interbred and created monsters.

The three men, his two escort PDF and himself, completed a circuit check, and found nothing except some sickening runes daubed on the outer fence that might have been charged to become glyf’s , metal monsters seemingly creating themselves out of any well sized piece of corrupted metal Landerson didn’t want to risk it, so he doused each one he found with the flask of consecrated water that had been issued as part of his kit. As Purchason helped. Lefivre held back Landerson could see he didn’t want to look at the marks. His fellow PDF guardsmen didn’t want his mind to lapse that way again.

They reached the main buildings. It was twenty-two thirty-seven. Pretty much on cue, they heard a boom from the town behind them. A fiery glow slowly rose into the sky. Then a buzzing filled the air. In the valley below them, they saw glyf’s floating like ball lightning, drawn to the commotion.

The colonel’s diversion was underway
.
“Emperor protect you,” Landerson muttered.

Landerson checked the main door. It was unlocked. Weapon braced, he crouched his way in as Lefivre pushed the door open. Purchason stood to his left, rifle raised to cover.
The prefab hallway was dark. There was an intense smell of dry fertilizer. Rats scurried.
Landerson signaled Lefivre to watch the door, then he and Purchason swept up the hallway, covering each other door by door. The place was deserted. Chairs and tables were
overturned, agricultural cogitators smashed, seed incubators and nursery racks destroyed. There was a dim light ahead. Cautiously, they prowled on, signing to each other, weapons set. The light was coming from a central office area. A single candle, guttering on a desk.

Landerson glanced at Purchason. Purchason shook his head. He had no idea what was going on either. They slid inside. The room was empty apart from broken furniture and the desk with the candle. The windows were locked. There was only one door.

“This is the place,” said Landerson as loudly as he dared.

“What the hell’s that candle about? Are they here already?”

Landerson looked around for a second time.

“I don’t know,” he whispered. “Go check on Lefivre.”

Purchason nodded and slid back out into the hallway. Landerson stood by the desk, his weapon aimed at the doorway.
A minute passed. Two. His hands began to sweat. He heard a faint noise.

“Purchason?” he called quietly.

The candle suddenly went out. An arm locked about his body, pinning his weapon. He felt a blade at his throat.

“Say it now and say it right,” said a voice in his ear.

“T-tanith Magna…”

The grip released. Landerson turned in the darkness, terrified.

“Where are you?” he gasped.

“Still here,” the voice said, behind him again. Landerson
switched round.

“What are you doing?” he breathed. “Show yourself!”

“All in good time. You got a name?” The voice was behind
him yet again. Landerson froze.

“Major Gerome Landerson, Gereon PDF.”

There was a click of tinder sticks and the candle on the desk relit. Landerson swung round to look at it, gun raised. The candle fluttered solitary. There was no sign of whoever had lit it

“Stop it!” Landerson said. “Where are you?”

“Right here.” Landerson froze as he felt the cold muzzle of a weapon rest against the back of his neck.

“Put the gun down.”

Landerson gently placed his silenced rifle on the desk.

“How did you get in?” he whispered.

“I was here all the time.”

“But I searched the room–”

“Not well enough.”

“Who are you?”

“My name is Mkoll. Sergeant of scouts, Tanith First-and-
Only.”

“Could you take the gun off my neck?”

A man appeared in the candlelight in front of Landerson.
He was 5‘9“, compact, muscular shrouded in a camouflage cloak that seemed to melt him into the darkness, a thing of shadows.

“I could,’ he said softly, ‘if it was my gun. Ven? Let the poor guy off the leash.”

The pressure of the gun-muzzle went away. Landerson glanced round and saw the second man. Just a shadow in the extremity of the candlelight. Taller than the first, a murmur of a shape.

“W-what are you?’ Landerson stammered. ‘Ghosts?”

By the light of the single candle flame, Landerson saw the eyes of the man calling himself Mkoll crinkle and glint. A smile. That was the most unnerving thing of all, for clearly this was a face unaccustomed to smiles.

“You could say that,” Mkoll said...............

AWAKE.......

His personal communicators insistent ringing finally waking him he grabbed it at once fully alert and clicked it to life to find a message left from her, the Inquisitor.

Incoming message from Inquisitor Carrigan. Beginning transmission : “Piscivorus! Get in here!”
What was this and why the wrong number and what the, Praise the Emperor, was a Piscivorus. Only was it 30 minutes later after a bath and a shave did he check his personal mail slot to find another note.

Henceforth you have been designated as Piscivorus.

Signed,
-][- Carrigan

What the hell was this? What did she mean he would be designated as Piscivorus what crazy s**t was she up to now. Ever since his “temporary” transfer to the Inquisition after having acted as her scout to help her hunt down a few mutants created by the rogue psyker Molotch on the forest world of ElGlal. Though he had met her briefly once before, after the Tanith returned to liberate Gereon, spending a few weeks in the forest together, the two forged a close professional bond and he never managed to get them lost. Though they destroyed all the mutants, Molotch had escaped only to be killed years later by the Inquisitor Ravenor and his team.

A few months later he was ‘requisitioned’ by her from the First and Only to be her acolyte A position he, as a pious man gladly accepted, though he wished yet to return to his Ghosts and Colonel/Commissar Ibram Gaunt one day. From the moment he had first met her she had been strange as if not normal only when he joined her team did he find the cause. She was a blank one with no fear of harm by the physic forces of the warp. Mkoll still did not really understand that but as was his nature he did not ponder it as it posed no threat to him.

Standing once again fully dressed he strapped on his Tanith blade, hilt downward on his chest, holstered his bolt pistol, in a cross draw rig, grabbed the autogun and headed out to find his first meal of the day and then report to Carrigan and get an explanation to his new “designation”..........

(Ad I took a few liberties on his past meetings with Carrigan, hope you like.)

With the tree free of its mutated sap and healthy once more the party returned to the small village of Hith Elee only to find the smell of death was everywhere as body upon body were strewn among the homes and streets of what had once been a quiet township.
It was at the Solanis Paean Inn, that Lady Quilanday announced her departure.

“I will come back tomorrow, and with me I will carry the reward that was promised you for your aid in this battle. For now, I believe there is work to be done in this village, and I am sorry that I cannot aid you in giving my kin a proper burial. But please know how thankful I am, and with me the good people of Sylvaria.”

She climbed her horse and rode off into the forest without looking back.

By this point the smell, pungent and disease ridden, was too much for Malius to take so he and his ferrets, with a few words to the rest, letting them know of such retreated to the woods around the town. Once returned to their comfort he began a systematic search of the towns surroundings, while the rest of the group began the grisly task of burying the dead, making sure no more mutated animals existed.

With the area around the town seemingly clear, the thought of reentering the town not desired, the Ranger set up a small camp fire and awaited the rest of the party to once again move towards the Chakran Mountains....

“The only think Jack told me, was that it was a shot at the Megacorps and that was all I needed to know to accept. I guess he figured you would fill in the details. Was he wrong?”

Croaker relaxed once again and was going to tell MDK of the serum and the reasons they were after it when Jaimy, so very unlike her, got impatient and stood up.

“Alright guys, enough wasting time. We're sitting ducks right now; we could be the target instead of the hunter. Let's figure out what's going on.
First of all, we are here to troupe against megacorps. They are out causing mischief again. Causing problems for Spring-Heeled Jack and the rest of us. We have to catch them by surprise and destroy them. Our objective is to get in, destroy them if possible. They have something we need.”

“Peacekeeper please sit down”

Croaker asked her in his professional voice, as for the moment MDK and Lighting were still unaware of the relationship between her and him.

Hearing his voice that way she fell silent anew, listened for a moment to the sounds around the table, decided her words had been heard and sat down in her chair propping it up on two legs. Crossing her legs on the table while crossing her arms across her chest she leaned back as if waiting for something to be said.

"To be more exact," Scribe then spoke up and added in a tired tone. "Someone Jack feels..."

Scribe looked around at the other patrons to see if Peacekeeper's antics had drawn any unwanted attention. Dropping his voice, he continued.

"Is currently very well employed tried to burn him, and as a by-product: us. In the unveiling of this act we discovered our "get out of jail free" card. Problem is, it is tied up in this facility you're now privy to."

"How does this help us sting a corpse?"

Lightning asked, again snapping out of his reverie to join the conversation.

"The magnitude of what's locked up in that research facility could cost a megacorp a lot of money if the R&D is lost."

Added Firewind quick to put his two cents into the conversation. Then it was back to Scribe.

"More than just that, the Joe that burned us will likely wind up a corpse if this leaks. I'm willing to bet he's locking down tight. Now, pleasantries aside, and as much as I hate to admit it, Peacekeeper is right. Time is wasting. What's the plan?"

At this point the big Nomad leaned forward and once again took control of the conversation.

“Ok like Firewind said what we are after MDK is Biotechnia R&D, to be even more exact then Scribe, it’s a serum/drug that acts like boosterware without the cyber implants. We get our hands on that data some of us, Lighting and you exempted, can bargain it for our lives, maybe bring a little grief and a heavy money hit to the corp. At the very least, like Scribe said, we can use it to bring down the Johnson who hired Jack to hire us.”

Pausing to take a drink of his soda, having had no beer, he continued.

“As for a game plan I will say this again, first off Spiff I need you, if you can, to get us as much info as you can gather from your sources as to number of employees, any food or outside deliveries and on what days they do so. Look for shift change times, employee names, if they live on site or off, if off site try to find home addresses. If you can find a good netrunner try a hack at the sec at the facility"

"Second, Scribe use your media contacts and check for any news stories or published incidents in or around that target area. Look for anything we could use as a reason to be in that area or to visit the target and gain entry."

"Third, MDK you suggested a ground recon of the facility, ok we go with that also, only problem with that is who goes with ya as none of us are stealth trained. If Spiff can get me a snipe I can do over cover but that’s pretty much it. Bulls Eye has offered to be the wheelman but he too ain’t quiet it may just be better you go in on your own. If Spiff or Jack can get us some ear com links we could send you in and stay linked that way as I stand by as over cover and Bulls Eye as wheelman.”

(OOC: Awaiting any replies from the rest of the players before I continue)

I was going to but what I wanted was impossible at first LvL and likely to get me killed rather quickly so I went with my second choice, as my first choice, a Space Marine was a no go.
Something about being too powerful, HUH a lil ole Space Marine oh come on now
