Topic: Continuing Where We Last Left Off Again Subject: Extinguish the flames!
Once the party is beyond the doorway - and assuming there is no attack waiting for them - Arien moves to address the immediate threat.
Having seen the results of the healers' attempts to administer to those burning, the knight summons his ability to state the obvious. "We must extinguish the flames, or they will die. But we dare not touch them, lest the fire spread to those who would heal."
Frowning in thought, the knight considers how one would deal with a magical fire. He then wonders... what if one were to deal with it just as one would a normal fire, simply allowing that this is a much hotter version?
"Lun, Odyson," he asks. "Can you summon water to extinguish the flames, or earth to smother them? Granted, these are no mere campfires, and the sorcery may be immune to such mundane solutions... but would it not be worth a try? If so, might we not simply use a great deal of water or earth to deal with such powerful fire?"
If this would not do it... well, the solution was beyond the knight's ken.

I knew it was going to be ugly when the healers tried to lay hands on the afflicted. :-/
Apparently, the rat undead are just a nuisance at this point. Those ice skeletons, though, are bad news.

Topic: Continuing Where We Last Left Off Again Subject: fall back?
There would be no end to the horrors, it would seem. Where once Arien would have never flinched, no matter the odds, he now felt melancholy weigh heavy on his soul. I'm getting too old for this, he mused.
These undead... Arien had never seen their like, though he had heard tales that spoke of frozen skeletons that bore black flames that would consume life itself. If these were the same creature from those tales, he despaired at the chances of his companions to live much longer.
"We must regroup," he called. "Hurry, friends - into the tunnel."
The knight well knew that they could be hurrying to their deaths - but the way the odds currently stood, if they remained here, the party would almost certainly meet that grim specter.

We will survive *this round*. That's all we know!
In case you didn't know, coming in late and all, Alacrity actually has a game mechanism he calls "I'm too pretty to die". It's basically a one-use, avoid death card you can play during the adventure. Nobody has had to use theirs yet - though my guy came very close on the very first encounter.
Of course, part of my attitude is a joke for Alacrity. I mean, yeah, we're all gonna die, but my hope is that said deaths will be more cinematically significant.
Also... here is (hopefully) where having a firebrand will come in handy. Or, could just lead to my knight's valiant death.
You know, one or the other.

Topic: Continuing Where We Last Left Off Again Subject: pinned in
Try as they might, it would seem that the party would be unable to avoid traps, ambush, and deception. Indeed, it would seem that someone had thrown these ratmen to their deaths with the sole purpose of reusing them as so much canon fodder. Even in undeath, they should be no great threat... but they would continue to soak the spells and blows of the companions, and might score a lucky hit.
Arien had a terrible feeling that the enemy could afford to throw a vast array of attackers at the companions, while they themselves might slowly fall to attrition.
The knight shook his head to clear the maudlin thoughts. "Defensive formation!" he called. "They come on two fronts!"
For now, Arien would focus on the undead ratmen, for they were the more immediate threat, and the knight feared to leave a hole at the party's rear. However, he longed to engage the creatures of ice, for whom Liun'nair would sure prove to be a fearsome bane.
Either way, he mused, there will be chance enough for more battle than any sane man should care to stomach.

Topic: Continuing Where We Last Left Off Again Subject: what else to do?
Arien frowns at the situation. The entire thing screams trap, ambush, death... but then again, what about this infernal place didn't?
Careful to give Maximus full leeway to act as a scout/trap springer, Arien followed at what felt like a judicious distance. Far enough to hopefully avoid being affected by any traps the thief might spring, but close enough to come to his comrade's aid in the event of an ambush.
OOC: sword and shield at the ready. As muscle, there's not much else for Arien to do at this point.

Scott played him as a pretty typical, gruff dwarven soldier. Kadrin is a general, so I'd guess he's something of a tactician... aside from that? I say you're golden.

I thought I posted the day of your last post? Was I dreaming?
It would seem pretty crappy if we just hang back and watch Maximus face whatever alone. That said, I think I need to see his reaction to know what Arien needs to do.
Does that make sense?

Topic: Continuing Where We Last Left Off Again Subject: too easy
Wererats fell like so much chaff before the blades, bows, and spells of the companions. For some reason, the old battle exhilaration that Arien so often felt seemed to elude the knight this time around. Normally, he would have worn a fierce grin, but he found himself oddly somber as their foes proved so ineffective.
"Hold off on spells we may need later. We can finish the few survivors off in close combat."
Arien heard one of his companions offer up this advice, and he concurred. "Agreed," he spoke, ignoring the stench of immolated wererat. "They seem to be little threat to us. There is little use wasting resources we will surely need later. Be vigilant, in case there are other foeas at the ready."
The knight advanced cautiously, taking care to avoid the area of effect of the spells. This encounter had the feel of a distraction, and he wanted to be ready for the real threat.

I could totally see doing a TPK in that case, but I truly hate to derail things that badly. I would likely call a pause to the adventure if they didn't want to take things seriously.
