**grumbles something about people should look at their own maps**
You haven't been into either auxillary laboratory (rooms 12), nor have you been in the testing laboratory (room 11).
I need to double check the posts, but I do not believe you have been in the mess hall (room 5). Seems like you WERE going there, but never made it.
That's it for this level - there is a staircase (leads down to the tunnel) situated next to the mess hall, and only accessible via it, but it's not really a room.

Excellent post, Brom!
Make sure to either give the team orders on how you want them to proceed, or post the room sequence here. You don't want the nasty GM assuming anything.

Topic: Rhyme time! Subject: Rhyme time!
The purpose of this game, as you have probably figured, is to post a word that rhymes with the post above yours.
To keep things flowing, we'll do it in chains of five, like so:
Person #1 starts the chain
people #2-#4 post rhyming words
person #5 posts a rhyming word, then posts a new word that starts a new rhyme chain.
Got it?
Okay, and the word to start the game is...
shark.

Topic: yet another movie thread... Subject: Narnia
Took the kids to see Prince Caspian, the new Chronicles of Narnia movie.
Wow.
To be fair, I never read the books, so nothing is "changed" for me. I'm judging the movie on it's own merits, period.
The CGI is a step up from the first movie (which was admittedly very good). This movie is quite a bit darker, with a grittier, more violent feel... this is not the wide-eyed wonderment version of Narnia we saw in the first movie. A *lot* of beings die in this film. This is a fantasy world, no doubt, but not a glittery fairy tale. However, there is no gore whatsoever; I noted that no one's sword ever got bloody, despite the fact that they were used a lot. A tiny nitpick, and one of very few I can come up with.
I won't reveal any spoilers, but let me say that a new character stole the movie, and had me in stitches. The Narnians were great, period... there is one scene where you know that quite a few are going to die, and a great deal of emotion is subtly conveyed... you feel very bad for them. Great job on the filmmaking.
The children are a bit older, and once they return to Narnia, are apparently quite a bit more practiced in the arts of warfare. In the first film, they went from being neophytes to being competant. In this installment, they perform like heroes from Lord of the Rings. Perhaps a bit of a stretch, but it works.
Go see this movie on the big screen, you won't be disappointed.

...it's $3.89 per gallon in my town in Alabama. Of course, in the South especially, there are few mass transit options - we have no subway, and only minimal bus routes. So if you want to work, you drive.

Topic: A Cold Day in Hell Q&A Subject: you got questions? We've got answers.
1. Blake has access to the heating and wiring schematics.
2. There is large generator outisde the facility (marked as area 25 on the map). It has its own control room on the map (see room 23). One could reach it by walking outside, but this is not necessary - the two buildings are connceted via a tunnel.
That sublevel contains a circuit breaker room (27 on the map), located directly beneath the power control room.
The facility is heated with a combined oil/forced air system, which has its own controls, located in room 24 - adjacent to the power control room in the outbuilding. Note that the ducts in use are relatively small, so there is no possibility of people crawling around in them.
Finally, to round out the utilities (even though you did not ask), there is a water treatment room in the sublevel (26 on the map), located adjacent to the circuit breaker room.
3. Conceivably, one would shut down the power from the power control room, yes. Unfortunately, this is not the movie Jurassic Park, in which invincible computer data protection schemes are bypassed by simply turning off the computer. I'm operating under the assumption that one of Blake's first actions was to do a cold boot.
4. The disks play back fine, but appear to be recordings of dull, mundane events. They are dated, and the catalog is more or less constant, though there are a few small gaps.
Noticeably, there are no disks for a period of time of about a week, during late 2023.
Also, the machine itself was empty when you arrived. There are no disks labelled for any time earlier than six days ago.
Of course, you haven't more than afew minutes reviewing the disks so far.. there's no telling what you might find. If anything.
Note that the recordings seem to be of laboratory activity only.

You guys handle that however you wish.
I posted a teeny update to the game thread. Before I can go much further, I need to know if you guys are going to continue exploring (and how you will proceed), whether you plan to do anything else to/try to learn more from the machine, if you wish to wait for Charlie to get in to the computers, etc, etc.

Topic: RDI T-shirts Subject: new designs...
As stated in the announcement thread, both of the new designs (Avatar of Awsome, Logo Golf Shirt) are due to member requests.
The Avatar of Awesome tee is on the heavier material, so it costs a little more. Of course, gofl shirts naturally also cost more than regular tees.
If you see something you like, but wish it was in a different color, or was available on a different product, don't hesitate to ask. Likewise, if you'd like something that you don't see, let me know - if I CAN get it for you, I'll be happy to do so.
Heh, the idea of people walking around in RDI merchandise is just too cool.

Topic: New T-shirt design announcements Subject: New items, by request!
both of these items were done by request of a member. If you want a shirt, but don't see what you have in mind, let me know!
Avatar of Awesome [back text: only at... rdinn.net]
Price: $20.00
You're awesome, and you know it. Tell everyone else!
Note that this shirt is a heavier, higher quality tee than most of our offerings - and as such, costs a bit more.
RDI Logo Golf Shirt
Price: $27.00
Features the RDI logo on the front left, with the "Adventure awaits..." tagline beneath. Right sleeve has "rdinn.net" in red text.
Can't wear t-shirts to work? Wear this polo-style collared tee instead.

May 9th, 2025 - 0213
Main Laboratory, Antarctic Research Facility 36, Antarctica
The fire team investigates the room, following Kernan's orders. It would appear that the device is wired into the station's power via a large cable that leads directly into the floor beneath the device.
Naturally, said cable is within the blue glow that envelops the rest of the machine.

DM's note: I will be assuming the role of Tal'Anor. However, I lost track of everyone's positions, and mistakenly assumed that the etire party had gone to meet the slaa'kar; therefore I am instituting retroactive continuity, aka, a reality shift.
The conversation in which the paladin cautioned Varuna to not dismiss the aid of the slaa'kar out of hand never happened.
My mistake!
